Every November 1st, when we roll out of bed and pick up our phone, we get to be privy to the most iconic looks of the night before. Halloween is that very special time in every girl’s life when they get to dress up however they want, and nobody gets to say a thing about it, and we want to celebrate that. Sugar, spice and all things nice – that’s what Devon Lee Carson and her photographer friend Alana O’Herlihy are serving this October, and were eating it up. Batman and the many characters that belong to a multiverse of comic books that exist are great inspirations for Halloween, especially since they’ve been made and remade by some of the biggest names in the industry. Following in the footsteps of Drew Barrymore and Debi Mazar, the duo donned opposing lingerie – from fishnets to fur – and blessed us with this incredible shoot.

Sailor Moon is great inspiration generally speaking in fashion, so it’s no surprise that one of our longest-serving celebrities would transform into everyone’s favourite foe fighting schoolgirl. Dressed in bedazzled red boots, dress, gloves and headpiece, Paris looked completely adorable with just a hint of that Y2K style she helped birth.

Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham may or may not be part of a family feud, we aren’t here to comment on that, but for one night, they truly were the star-crossed lovers kept apart by a terrible family conflict. Inspired by Romeo + Juliet, the duo dressed in the Halloween fits from the actual movie and looked incredible in doing so – and might we add, very happy!

Nikita Dragon is the queen of glam, whether that be her day-to-day look or her Rolodex of Halloween looks, from the entire Tellytubbies squad to Princess Azula of Avatar: The Last Airbender. From the black PVC knee-high stilettos, to the cape, and even the slick wig, Nikita looked straight out of a cartoon.

Sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln! Kendall Jenner sure knows how to take any look to the next level, our previous favourite had been the Fem Bot-inspired look from Austin Powers but this one certainly takes the cake. Though we are sure this one ruffled some feathers, we like to think that as long as something isn’t offensive to someone, then it’s on the cards. After all, it’s not like this is Kendall’s first public outcry rodeo.

Kylie Jenner must have some sort of deal with the devil because everyone’s favourite lip mogul always seems to have the most iconic Halloween Instagram looks. This year, she was channelling Bride of Frankenstein and it was of course drop-dead gorgeous. Kendall is obviously the supermodel of the family, but there’s something about Kylie’s editorials that we just know will live on for as long as the Kardashian dynasty lasts – which shows no sign of slowing.

Doja Cat is well known for her public theatre, her hot girl tunes, and her many unique fashion moments. It seems just yesterday everyone was obsessing over her looks by the makeup artist of the moment Sophia Sinot last fashion week, and she’s back just as suddenly with a simple but effective clown beauty look – it’s giving insane clown posey. Sometimes the best bet on Halloween is something that you won’t a) have to spend all night explaining b) sweat too much in and c) won’t be too hard to sleepily wipe off at the end of the night.

It’s been done before, and it’ll be done again, but we just can’t get enough of it. Ashley Graham is an angel amongst us, but last night, she really was just an angel. Its also amazing how celebrities – and their hard-working hair, makeup and style teams – come together to make a look so on trend but still so fun.

Kim Kardashian took a page out of Saweetie’s look and brought Mystique to life this Halloween. Showing up to a non-costume party accidentally in costume, Kim wore a full-body blue suit including scales, blue face paint, yellow contacts a red oiled wig. Pulling up with her girlfriends dressed as Magik and Selene, Kim K reminded us why the best things in life always come in threes.

Black Swan is to girls what Patrick Bateman is to guys, and that’s why any girl who dons the fit gets blessed with such incredible photos for their feed. The look is simple, with a slicked back bun and black feather detailing and a simple black leotard, yet, it’s both instantly recognisable and very chic in equal measure. Kudos Olivia.

There’s no doubt you will be bombarded with quirky and cheesy group or couple costumes this season, but what about us single gals? well, we’ve hand-crafted some celebrity solo Halloween fits just for your inspo pleasure…

In our humble opinion, people limit themselves too much during Halloween. There are so many characters that would work in interesting ways regardless of gender! That’s why we’re huge fans of this Willow Smith fit, straight out of the dredges of fight club. The Tyler Durden look is always hot anyways so what better way to get a great Halloween costume and build your wardrobe at the same time? This is a great look because the props aren’t too overbearing but easily recognisable so very fun for a party.

Lots of people have done it before, and many people will do it again, but nothing ever seems to wear down the endless charm of dressing up as a Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. This look is quintessential Halloween single girl, incorporating all the most important features: a blonde wig, some lingerie and bunny ears. The playgirl look is of course very recognizable and you wont have to have any awkward encounters with someone who’s never seen Legally Blonde, because the look itself is widely known. Plus, who doesn’t love the opportunity to dress up as a feminist icon.

Clowns are scary, they are a staple, and sometimes there’s nothing wrong with doing a classic look no matter how stereotypical it might feel. Jayda Cheaves looked cute and scary in her Pennywise the clown get up and with a combination of the right clothes and beauty tutorials you can pull this off too. The fun thing about the clown look is really, all you need to nail is the classic clown makeup and you have a lot of creative freedom with the rest, you could be a really scary clown or a sexy clown with just a few swipes of makeup and fake blood. What’s important when attempting this look is to try and stay colour coordinated, put an outfit together with 2-3 colours and then utilise that pallete to do your clown makeup. That way, even if you only go with clown makeup you will till look polished.

When you’re choosing your Halloween outfit, the best bet is always to look at the iconic imagery of your favourite artists and celebrities. Those notable images will not only be easy to recognise but will also likely be incredibly fashionable and in this case, fun and seductive. Janet Jackson is a great person to emulate, both for her famous looks and sick 90s style. Actress and singer Halle Bailey did an incredible Janet and are a great example of how utilising clothes in your own closet alongside simple DIY can really create something absolutely instagrammable.

A Halloween costume should be either timeless or topical, and a Pamela Anderson costume is both those features in equal measure. Kendall Jenner looked stunning and sultry in her pam fit and is great inspiration for anyone trying to nail a really notable piece of media. The one-piece, fishnets, gloves and thigh-high boots should be pretty easy to source – not to mention, a great investment. Beauty-wise, a thin eyebrow look can be created using a pencil and some concealer, the blonde via either luck or wig, and the sultry black eye can be done with a good kohl liner or shadow palette.

The difficult choice might seem childish to some, but we understand the struggle, so here’s some Halloween beauty inspo plucked personally by us from your favourite celebs’ feed.

Kylie Jenner

The Kardashians always bring it to any family holiday, particularly Christmas. Kylie Jenner’s Nightmare on elms street inspired look is simple but effective, being both sensual and scary. The use of the pointy long chrome nail in place of blades is a chic touch, and the Beetlejuice-inspired fringe is perfect for edging up any look with just a little bit of gel and a comb.

Justine Skye

A classic go-to every Halloween, but in no way used up, the goth bride. There are many renditions of it come in a diverse variety of styles, from cartoony to morticiaesque. This look is simple, a veil and lacy dress is a must, but beauty-wise consider a smokey eye with a dark lip, or just one or the other. Justine Skye didn’t take this route, but you can never go wrong with a slightly too light powder to make yourself look more ghostly and a little bit of dried blood.

Rosalia

Rosalia as Leeloo from the fifth element is probably the coolest Halloween costume of the year. Taking from sci-fi is always a good idea, particularly as the bustling nerd industry will always have a costume for you. Beauty-wise, it shows the simplicity it takes to create a look where people can still look at you and think ‘oh, I know who that is’. The classic orange wig works great and livens up her face, and her orange-toned eyebrows really help make this look more futuristic.

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian

A true hall of fame moment for anyone on the internet last year, taking from iconic vintage moments is always a good shout if you want to look cool but still distinguishable. Kourtney and Travis were inspired by sex pistols couple Nancy and Sid, which ended with both of their deaths, so topical for sure. A good blonde wig for that classic bombshell look and a short wig with spikes formed with gel and backcombing are great for producing the late 70s/early 80s punk look.

Rosalia

Megan thee stallion brought Heidi Klum levels of commitment to her Halloween look last year with her own personal rendition of Pinhead from Hellraiser. We can’t even being to imagine how long this look took to do, but the results were definitely worth it. Whilst we can’t tell you how to accomplish the spikes, a great media-grade face paint set with a powder is great for getting that ghostly, late 80s horror movie sheen.

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber here reminding us you can never go wrong with a classic. With the help of a school girl outfit and some fluffy scrunchies, part your hair down the middle and tie them into two high pig tails, braided, and accessorised. This look is great because despite its simplicity, its instantly recognisable, and iconic to be honest.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish gave us a great Tim Burton-inspired ‘the nightmare before Christmas’ holiday look. The inspo you should take from this is the makeup tricks used to create her classic stitched-up arms. if you’re really extra you could use certain media-grade products to thicken up your stitches, but as far as drawing them you can create them with a liner and then use a mixture of red, tan and white powders to create the skin around it and give it the appearance of being raised.

We have picked out some of our favourite celeb Halloween makeup looks, that are super-easy to re-create yourself. If you need costume inspiration or just want to experiment with your everyday makeup for October then take a look at these glam costumes!

Kendall Jenner

Kendall’s majestic wood fairy costume looked both stunning and glamorous. Pairing with the golden glow of her outfit, Kendall’s makeup is a classic glam look consisting of a slight smoky eye, a glossy lip, and a fabulous highlighter. When recreating Kendall’s look, avoid harsh lines and blend both the eyeshadow and highlighter naturally into the skin. She also inverted a smokey eyeshadow, focusing on her bottom lash line to create a more sultry eye shape. 

Chanel Iman

Even for an unravelling mummy costume, Chanel looks absolutely stunning. Her makeup effectively uses contour and highlighting to create a snatched face, in addition to her high ponytail. The contrast between her white contacts and a black, smokey eye is so effective to create an eerie eye look, plus she has avoided heavy false lashes which could distract from the stark eye colour. 

Zoe Kravitz

Zoe Kravitz’s vampire look is a perfect last-minute costume (and ideal if you want to stay comfy the whole night). If you truly want an easy makeup look then sunglasses is definitely a good idea. Zoe’s look focuses on a clean skin base, with light concealer and bronzer. Her faded red lip with dripping blood is the main focus, of course, along with her vampire fangs.

Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid’s iconic Catwoman look is a classic Halloween inspiration. Her face mask emphasizes her eyeshadow and lipstick,  which she has made bold and loud. A dark, smokey eye and sleek red lipstick is definitely chic for Halloween and is a go-to idea if you are unsure exactly what makeup your costume’s character would actually wear. 

Megan Fox

Any of Megan Fox’s looks from Jennifer’s Body is a perfect choice for Halloween. The main focus of this costume is her blood-stained dress with the makeup and hair staying simple. Her hair is slicked back, whilst her makeup is an everyday look with clean brows, mascara and a tinted lip. 

Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney Kardashian’s pink space cowgirl costume is seriously glam. Her peachy pink smokey eye is paired with a glossy, nude lip. This pink, rose-tinted makeup is a gorgeous look that can be recreated for numerous costumes, like fairies or princesses.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid’s makeup recreating The Mask may seem daunting, but it is definitely doable at home. Reconsider the tones and areas of contour and highlight of your go-to glam look but attempt this using green, yellow and white face paints. The look is a typical contour, glitter eyeshadow, smokey eyeliner and opaque lip, but using a green palette. 

Devon Lee Carlson

Devon Lee Carlson’s Hannah Montana costume is instantly recognisable. The shimmering gold eyeshadow, pink blush and glossy lip are iconic 2000s makeup. If your costume is coming from a specific era then researching cultural icons from the period is a good starting point for thinking about a makeup look that relates to your costume.
