Sprinkled among the guests were celebrities such as Pharrell, Hailey and Justin Bieber, Charli XCX, Naomi Campbell, Winnie Harlow, Jourdan Dunn, FKA Twigs, Alexa Chung, Lewis Hamilton, and Marcus Rashord, who all gathered to witness the immense occasion.

London’s Olympia venue was transformed into a blue-lit dystopian madness with mini-exhibitions highlighting their collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Adidas, Palm Angels, and Rick Owens. Jay-Z’s entertainment company Roc Nation also got its own platform allowing guests to record sounds that were then mixed live to create an “emotion-centred experience – because Genius lives within us all”.

Two and a half hours after the event commenced the legendary singer Alicia Keys took the stage performing hits ‘Girl On Fire’ and ‘Empire is a State of Mind’. She was joined by the nation’s favourite rapper Little Simz and R&B singer and Simz’s collaborator Cleo Sol to perform ‘Woman’. Keys wore her upcoming collaboration with Moncler performing in a stunning metallic silver trench coat with matching flares. The singer called the collection, which will be released in late March, “cool, easy, 100 percent New York – inspired by late ’90s streetwear, but with a twist”.

As always Rick Owens made a statement. After presenting his famous black maxi gowns and bulky coats in a dark smoke-filled room, he threw an outdoor afterparty complete with dancefloors and DJs.

Last September, Moncler celebrated its 70th anniversary in an equally over-the-top style when 18,000 people gathered at the Duomo di Milano in Milan to witness the performance delivered by 1952 models, musicians, and dancers (an ode to when the brand was established) dressed wearing limited-edition white Moncler Maya jackets. Oh-so fabulous.

Kanye has hit headlines for a multitude of reasons in the past few weeks, but for us, this track is the highlight of all of his latest innings with the press. Bringing a sound reminiscent to early 2010s rap, ‘City of Gods’ blends Alicia’s powerhouse vocals and piano ballad style with an infectious Hip-Hop beat and hard-hitting verses courtesy of Fivio Foreign and Kanye West. 

Stefflon Don – Like That

We can always rely on Stefflon Don to bring the heat, and ‘Like That’ is no exception. Declaring that self-love is at the forefront of Steff’s mind, she sings “I ain’t met nobody hard as me”. This is the energy we will be channelling into spring 2022! 

MORGAN – You’re Worth It

In this affirmation anthem, MORGAN has us reflecting on our self worth whilst bringing a tropical beat to life. The video further champions the song’s message, with a diverse cast presented in vulnerable states at the start of the video, in contrast to the end where they are dancing and feeling more confident after realising they are worth it. With every listen, we take something positive away from this song.

RoRo – Ladies 

When you blend empowering lyrics with an infectious groove and intriguing production, you can’t help but feel your mood improve as you listen to the results. ‘Ladies’ by Roro does just this and has us feeling ready to take on whatever life throws at us!

Alicia has released visualisers on Youtube for every album’s track, with the tracks ‘Best Of Me’ and ‘LALA’ coming with official music videos. Both songs are rich and irresistible, yet offer unique video concepts and sounds. 

Further allowing us to see her artistic vision, Alicia will take centre stage at the Expo 2020 Dubai UAE to perform in their Infinite Nights series, whilst appearing under the world’s largest 360-degree projection surface, the Al Wasl dome. This performance will see Alicia execute a medley of her biggest hits, celebrating 20 years of success, whilst also adding in some of her new material from ‘KEYS’. The performance will be available to livestream.

Prior to today’s release of ‘KEYS’, Alicia welcomed fans inside her world via the YouTube Originals four-part documentary series, “Noted: Alicia Keys The Untold Stories,” where she shared her journey from a vulnerable young star, to self-empowered woman, musician and mother. The series is available to watch exclusively on YouTube.

We were originally set to hear Alicia Keys’ seventh studio album in March, but due to the pandemic we are now receiving the project almost six months later and it was most definitely worth the wait.

Before the pandemic, her lead single ‘Underdog’ was slowly making its way up the charts and became her highest-charting single since 2012’s ‘Girl On Fire’ so unfortunately the excitement for her project had dwindled somewhat since the inevitable drop off of that single and won’t have boosted its commercial success. However, creatively the delay seems to make sense as the album is filled with positivity, maturity and self-reflection which is needed now more than ever.

‘ALICIA’

‘ALICIA’ takes us through multiple genres throughout its runtime including some smooth funk on ‘Time Machine’ to dewy reggae on ‘Wasted Energy’. Key’s lyrics are like a guide for the listener providing optimism at every turn. “We’re all in this boat forever, and we’re sailing towards the future and it’s alright,” Alicia sings on ‘Authors Of Forever’ which is a silky r&b gem with an 80’s edge to it.

The album features a consistent mood throughout and unsurprisingly, there is a lack of up-tempo cuts that work perfectly and gives the album a sense of cohesion. The closest we get to breaking that cohesion is with the over the top pop-ballad ‘Love Looks Better’, produced by Adele and frequent Beyoncé collaborator Ryan Tedder.

After Alicia included a more socially conscious aspect of songwriting on her 2016 album ‘Here’. She keeps that up on this album with ‘Underdog’ which contains an unpretentious and affecting shout-out to “young teachers” and “student doctors” as well as “single mothers waiting on a check to come”.

But perhaps the most hard-hitting point on the album is ‘Perfect Way To Die’ a socially appropriate ballad written from the perspective of a grieving mother whose son has been murdered by police. When Keys sings, “just another one gone, and they tell her to move on” it’s a tear-inducing condemnation of Americas’ horrific response to police brutality.

The album ends on a somewhat high note with ‘Good Job’ a piano lead track dedicated to all the ordinary people out there just trying to get through the day. It could have come across as condescending coming from one of the world’s most famous singers but somehow it doesn’t. Like most of the album its incredibly heartfelt and most importantly, completely genuine.

With her melodious voice and high and strong vocals, Keys presented her new single at the inaugural event of the new 2020 NFL season, as an incentive to her new project to collaborate with entrepreneurs from the African American community, which has already reached the billion dollars.

Her lyrics inspire and motivate us to appreciate the time in which we live, it helps us to reflect on the value of encounters and real relationships, to understand the importance of having each other and enjoying every second connected. In such a busy time as the one we live in, and after a lockdown, it is a melody to dont forget the importance of being there and expressing our feelings. “Let’s take a moment to remember how powerful it is to see each other, to really see each other,” Alicia said at the opening.

With his deep and soulful lyrics, Keys stated, “This song has such an energy! It really talks about how busy we’ve become, how fast we got used to moving, and now we realize that my love looks better on you. It’s time to really be present for each other”.

Aware of society and an agent of change, this woman uses her platforms to encourage the movement Black lives matter and to support the rights of the black community and its talents. To get more excited, this R&B singer will soon surprise us with a romantic comedy production on Netflix, via AK Worldwide, and we do not doubt that it will be as successful as her musical career.
