Andrea “Dre” Greene, a young lady from Houston, would do anything for her favourite R&B singer Ni’Jah: max out credit cards, shun her sister’s boyfriend, and even murder the star’s haters. Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah) stars as the psychotic Dre in the seven-part satirical psychological thriller that debuted earlier this month on Amazon Prime.

Writers and creators Donald Glover and Janine Nabers wanted to make it blatantly obvious that pop star Ni’Jah is a parallel to Beyoncé. Of course, Ni’Jah’s fanbase’s nickname is the Swarm very similar to Beyoncé stan’s nickname the Beyhive, Dre accidentally bites Ni’Jah just like the rumoured incident with a fan biting Bey, Ni’Jah’s releases “Festival” about her unfaithful husband much like Beyoncé’s Lemonade, and there’s even a Solange doppelganger in the show. The series even begins with the slightly on-the-nose message: “This is not a work of fiction. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, is intentional”.

Though the events are inspired by details and incidents throughout Beyoncé’s career, the examination of fandom culture is of course applicable beyond her fans. “Beyhive don’t kill us, it’s not that bad, it’s actually pretty cool!”, Childish Gamino joked at the premiere of the show.

Glover called Swarm a “post-truth TV show” in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. The Atlanta writer and Janine Nabers assess the dangers of parasocial relationships showing how online fandoms can spring into witch hunt attacks, dox those that diss the star they stan, invade celebrities’ privacy, and even go as far as violence through using Dre as depiction of an extreme case.

Talking to Vulture, Glover said he wanted Dre to be “brutal” and told Fishback to watch Isabella Huppert in the Piano Teacher for inspiration for her performance. However, some of the writer’s comments on how he prepared the actress for the role have rubbed people the wrong way. Glover told Vulture he instructed the actress to: “Think of it more like an animal and less like a person”.

Despite the lack of help she received in interpreting her character’s deeper motives, Dominique Fishback delivers a spine-chilling performance as Dre as she continues further into psychosis as the years pass. The brief connection we get to see between Chloe Bailey (Black-ish) who plays Dre’s sister Marissa and Dre gives us more insight into the softer side of the character but unlucky for us their screen time together is short lived. Packed with gore, tension, as well as dark humour, Swarm is a thriller that keeps its audience engaged with its hooking plot and dramatic performances. 

The show seems to find its groove more as we get further down the rabbit hole. Just as Dre struggles to distinguish between reality and fiction so does the viewer as episode six plunges us into a true crime documentary following a police detective trying to solve Dre’s murders. In a particularly meta, twist Donald Glover himself even gives a red-carpet interview about him making a TV show based on Dre’s life therefore suggesting Dre exists in our world. It’s a mind melt moment nearly as genius as the second half of  the American Horror Story series Roanoke.

A little ironically Twitter and TikTok have been hyped over popstar Billie Eillish’s acting debut as the extremely intense blonde lesbian cult leader Eva who takes Dre under her wing in one of the murder’s more vulnerable moments. She’s just the slice of camp that the show needed.

So far all we know about the plot is that it will follow a fictional musician, played by  Anne Hathaway, showing her relationship with a famous fashion designer, played by Michaela Coel. 

The pop melodrama will be directed by David Lowery best known for his raved-about A24 supernatural drama A Ghost Story (2017). This will be his third A24 film having also directed the fantasy epic The Green Knight(2021). Lowery recently directed the new live-action Disney adaptation of Peter Pan, Peter Pan & Wendy(2023), which is set to premiere on Disney + on the 28^th April.

Eight-time Grammy winner Jack Antonoff has been shaping pop as we know it for years working alongside Taylor Swift the 1975, Lorde, St. Vincent, Florence and the Machine, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Clairo to produce the albums synonymous with this decade and the 2010s. Recently he co-produced Lana Del Rey’s experimental Americana fusion record Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd released earlier this month. Charli and Jack have been buddy buddy for years and a return to collaborating felt eminent following both pair’s past successes. Back in 2015, Charli and Jack joined forces co-headlining the Charli and Jack Do Tour around America.

This is not the first time Charli’s has made a welcome appearance in an A24 film with her track ‘Hot Girls’ featuring in the satirical thriller Bodies Bodies Bodies last year. Antonoff meanwhile fashioned the 70s-style soundtrack for the hit kid’s film Minions: The Rise of Gru featuring Diana Ross, Tame Impala, St Vincent, and Kali Uchis.

To celebrate the announcement Charli shared a throwback photo of herself and Jack commenting “hate myself for this pic but it had to be done”. She also called out Pitchfork for the photo they posted of her when they announced the news sarcastically writing in the comment section, “Crushed the photo choice love you”. (She’s a blessing to our feed).

The Madonna of hyper pop herself has been teasing her return to the studio for the last month. She wittily captioned one Instagram post: “crash made me have a fair few breakdowns but next one gonna be worse. i feel it”. Charli will be performing at Coachella next month the one-of-a-kind festival held in the Colorado Desert. 

Mother Mary is set to be filmed in Germany later this year. As of now, the film has yet to receive a release date.

Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (2021)

American musician, record producer, and filmmaker Questlove revealed to many a remarkable part of black history that had been previously glossed over with his documentary Summer of Soul. The concert film weaves together beautiful footage from the free Harlem Music Festival that took place over six weeks in 1961 with interviews from the people who attended and performed, who look back fondly over 50 years later.

It features soul-healing performances for Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, The 5th Dimension, The Staple Singers, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mavis Staples, Sly and the Family Stone, and The Chambers Brothers. Summer of Soul is a touching celebration of the amazing fashion, music, and culture in Harlem as well as an important political film that touches on race, class, and legacy.

Matangi/Maya/M.I.A. (2018)

Fans, haters, and curious views are given an insight into the multi-faceted controversial but undeniably talented singer M.I.A. in this documentary that spans over 22 years of the rapper’s life. Documenting her rise to fame, her own perspective on her controversies, public appearances, her political activism, and her identity as an East Asian woman, the viewer gains a better grasp of who Maya Arulpragasam is through the course of the film. The eccentric star is mesmerising in this critically acclaimed documentary that won World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award at Sundance 2018.

Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991)

Madonna: Truth or Dare is an important chapter in pop culture with many other documentaries, parodies, and reality TV shows taking notes from the film. It’s still one of the highest-grossing documentaries ever made. The film provides a deep look at Madonna’s relationships with her crew, then-boyfriend Warren Beatty, family, and friends whilst on her Blonde Ambition tour. Edited in a moody black-and-white whilst the performances are left in radiant colour, it’s a visually stunning film as well as an illuminating one. All hail the queen of pop.

Homecoming (2019)

Beyoncé’s self-directed, written, and produced concert film on the performance held in 2018 at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is the music documentary to end all music docs. Receiving widespread critical acclaim, with some even saying it’s one of the greatest concert films of all time, it won Best Music Film at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards and Best Music Documentary at the IDA Documentary Awards 2019. Beyoncé grants the audience an inside look at how she takes a concept, revises, rehearses, and creates a cultural moment that will be remembered throughout history. If you need some inspiration in your life watch now.

Amy (2015)

Sparking heavy criticism from Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, Amy pulls archival footage and personal testimonials to piece together a heart-wrenching but tender story of a talented beauty who departed too soon. Critically acclaimed yet controversial, everyone will have a different take on Amy which gives a portrait of the life and career of the British singer as she struggles with addiction, fame, the media, and her family. RIP Amy.

Dave Chappelle’s Block Party(2005)

A wild unpredictable shambolic funfest from start to finish Dave Chappelle’s Block Party follows comedian Chappelle during the summer of 2004 as he throws a block party in the Clinton Hill neighbourhood of Brooklyn. The free rap show in Brooklyn featured Kanye West, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, The Roots, and briefly reunited The Fugees. If you like amazing rap performances, hip hop, and a lot of guerrilla marketing through megaphones it’s the one for you.

Gaga: Five Foot Two (2017)

We see a softer side to the formidable pop icon Gaga in Gaga: Five Foot Two. The documentary follows Gaga in 2016 through the lead-up to Joanna and her Superbowl performance. From interactions with her fans, her struggles with chronic pain, intel into her feud with Madonna, the filming of American Horror Story: Roanoke, and her home life, there’s nothing that’s off the table in this unguarded revealing documentary.

Miss Americana(2020)

Megastar Taylor Swift comes off as personable, smart, and down-to-earth in this emotional revealing documentary filmed over several years of the singer’s life. Starting from her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018 it follows her journey up to her seventh studio album Lover in 2019. Tackling sensitive subjects with strength and grace such as her battle with body dysmorphia, her mother’s cancer diagnosis, the toxic internet culture, her sexual assault trial, self-esteem issues, and her decision to go public with her political views, Swift shows why she is an incredible role model for all young women.

Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me (2022)

A must-see for every Selenators or anyone who grew up watching the star on Wizards of Waverley Place. The documentary follows Selena Gomez through a six-year period of her career and reveals her struggles with fame and physical and mental well-being in the wake of her diagnosis with lupus and bipolar disorder. Praised for its mental health transparency the film is a raw and vulnerable look into the mind and life of Gomez. Emotional but ultimately uplifting – pass the tissues.

The Upcoming Rihanna Documentary(2023 – hopefully!)

With over 1,000 hours of footage filmed over six and a half years, it’s no surprise that the editing of this documentary has taken so long and is still a work in progress. With the footage providing an up-close look at the rise of Rihanna’s billion-dollar empire Fenty, the singer at work in the studio, her relationship with Rocky, and RiRi’s experiences of new motherhood, we cannot wait to see it. It’s recently been sold to Amazon so hopefully we’ll be to watch soon.

We all love to watch the incredibly rich and beautiful bring about their own downfall through deception and hubris – it’s human nature. Sharper is the brand-new psychological drama produced by Apple TV and A24 about a small upper-class family that is ripped apart when the very sleazy Max begins conning those around him. Though golden globe, BAFTA, and Emmy-winning director Benjamin Caron has directed several episodes of gripping TV shows such as Sherlock and The Crown, Sharper is his feature film directorial debut. With the film boasting Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, John Lithgow, and Justice Smith in its cast there’s no shortage of crafty characters to keep your attention.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Treat yourself and your mates to a late Valentine’s present and go watch some sexy sweaty men strip it all off at the cinema. Broke after a dodgy business deal goes bust Mike heads to London with a wealthy socialite (Salma Hayek) to perform one last job – and this time it’s at the West End. Director Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s 11, Kimi, Magic Mike) caters to the female gaze in this sultry yet heartfelt tale that will leave you feel warm and fuzzy. With oodles of sexual tension, shiny abs, and a killer soundtrack – what more could you ask for in a flick?

He’s quickly become a cult figure in the thriller genre with his eerie internal monologue inspiring parodies online and his infamous baseball cap providing lazy men with an easy last-minute Halloween costume. Last week, the first part of the fourth season of the Netflix original was brought to streaming proving popular with fans who have it trending at number one on Netflix. Since the mayhem of last season, Joe has been hiding out in London under a new identity professor Jonathan Moore. He attempts not to blow his cover but falls in with a crowd of wealthy “douchebags”. As the ‘Eat the Rich Killer’ starts attacking Joe’s friends and him losing the struggle to keep his obsessive nature under wraps, how long can Joe remain undetected this time? Part two of season four comes out in March so those who haven’t watch the show yet have plenty of time to catch up.

The Last of Us

Even if you haven’t seen The Last of Us you will have encountered the buzz that surrounds the show. The American HBO post-apocalyptic drama based on the 2013 video game of the same name has been driving fans of the game, Sci-Fi lovers, and TikTok-edit-making Petro Pascal stans wild. Incredibly intense, action-packed, and with the very sweet relationship surrogate father-daughter relationship between the two protagonists we totally get why it’s causing a stir. Set in 2023, a global pandemic caused by a climate-change-induced fungal infection transforms people into zombie-like creatures. In the collapsed society Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler escorts teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the dangerous plains of the United States. With episodes dropping every Monday HBO is keeping us tantalised for every new instalment. Season two was given the green light after only one episode out of the nine had been aired – it just goes to show the show’s popularity.

If you didn’t get around to watching The Peripheral last year now is a great time to do so. Manifest (Netflix)

If you are into suspenseful, sci-fi TV series this one is for you! Manifest is a mix of Lost and 4400.Montego Flight 828 to New York disappears off the radar without a trace, only to reappear five years later without explanation. For the 191 passengers on board, no time has passed. But for their loved ones, those five years were a trying time…

When they land, the passengers and crew learn from the NSA that more than five and a half years have passed, during which time they were presumed dead. As they reintegrate into society, the passengers begin to realise that their lives – and their loved ones – are not the same as before. They also begin to experience guiding voices and hallucinations.

Ms Marvel (Disney +)

This new Disney show freshly out from Marvel Studios follows the life of a young teenager living in Jersey City,  Kamala Khan. An avid video game fan and insatiable fan fiction writer, she loves superheroes, who fire her imagination (especially Captain Marvel). But she struggles to fit in at home and at school until she discovers she has superpowers similar to those of her heroes. Disney and Marvel tap into diversity and inclusivity as it is the first show with a Muslim-female lead as a superhero. 

The Terminal List ( Prime)

Prime Video kicks off the month with The Terminal List on July 1. In this action thriller, Christ Pratt will portray James Reece, a Navy SEAL who returns home after his team is ambushed on a covert mission only to discover that the threat might still persist. Based on the Jack Carr novel of the same name, Reece (Pratt) and his platoon are ambushed while on a mission, but upon his return home, he isn’t quite sure about the way he remembers the events and whether he actually hadanything to do with them or not. As he struggles to regain the right memories, Reece realizes that there are people working against him, and he must do whatever it takes to protect both himself and his family.

Anything’s Possible (Prime)

Here comes a fresh, relevant queer love story. The first Billy Porter-directed film Anything’s Possible premieres on July 22 is a coming-of-age tale about a high school boy crushing on his trans classmate. The film follows the humorous, delicate, and passionate love story between cisgender boy Khal and transgender girl Kelsa. Unfortunately, obstacles stand in their way, as Kelsa’s friend also vies for Khal and not everyone at their school is accepting of the queer relationship. These trials don’t stop Kelsa from chasing after what she wants–Khal, love, and happiness. Anything’s Possible will be released for streaming on Amazon Prime Video on July 22, 2022.

Love in the Flesh

Hosted by former Love Island contestant Zara McDermott, ‘Love in the Flesh’ compares couples’ connections that are formed through online-dating apps to those made face to face.

The one-week experience at a Greek beach house sees couples who have been speaking online finally meet with their match in the flesh. With a mixture of dates and challenges, Zara whittles down the couples to find those who’ve made a ‘real genuine connection’ and give those who haven’t, the opportunity to ‘disconnect.’  In the end, the three final couples are each given a prize, to be claimed after a certain time-period once the show has ended.

Love is Blind

Netflix’s answer to ‘Married at First Sight,’ Love is Blind follows 15 men and women who are looking to find love. For 10 days, the 30 singles speed-date each other using ‘pods’ (rooms specifically designed to allow them to converse without seeing one another).  Over the course of the 10 days, relationships deepen and for some lead to a marriage proposal. If accepted, the couples meet face to face and set off to the next stage, the couples retreat.

During the retreat, the couples spend more time together in this honeymoon-esque setting and become more physically intimate. They also meet the other successful couples who made it through the first stage.

After the couples retreat, each couple move in together and return to their ‘normal lives.’ From then on, the couples meet their partner’s friends and families, and have to take on each other responsibilities, all as part of a build up to their wedding day. The show culminates at the altar with each couple deciding whether or not to say ‘I do.’

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move on

An experiment that comes from the host and creators of ‘Love Is Blind’. The ultimatum features six long term couples, whereby at the start of the show they enter an experiment to find out whether the grass is greener on the other side, or if they have already found the best match for them in their existing partner. 

The show stages a breakup and goes on to make every contestant enter a trial marriage with someone newly single from a different relationship. After this, they will enter a second three-week trial marriage with their original partner. At the end of the show decide whether they want to propose to the old person or propose to the new or leave the how single.

Love Island

After rebooting in 2015, Love Island has become the ‘Big Brother’ of reality dating shows and a personal fan favourite at Voir. Set in sunny Majorca, Love Island provides an 8-week experience for ‘islanders’ to find love, all the while under constant video surveillance. In order for contestants to remain in the villa, they must remain in a couple with a fellow islander. Over the course of the series, these newly formed relationships are put to the test with a series of challenges, forced re-couplings and the addition of new islanders.

At the end of the series, the winning couple has the opportunity to win £50,000 when the ultimate test occurs. Only one person in the couple wins the money and has to decide whether or not to split it with their other half or walk away having played the biggest game of their lives.

Whilst these shows bring about much needed entertainment to a typical boring night at home, it’s difficult to say that these ‘love games’ portray genuine connection in a relationship. But let’s face it, we’re all a sucker for a show that takes us away from our day-to-day routine, for an hour or so every night!

Anatomy of a Scandal

Based on Sarah Vaughan’s eponym novel, and inspired by two major events that occurred in 2000 and 2010 covered in the British news. Currently the most popular series, the new Netflix original raises the burning question of consent and sheds light on the gender imbalance in sexual harassment accusations. When a sexual scandal burst into the privileged world of British members of parliament, the notoriety of James Waterhouse is threatened. His extramarital relationship with his assistant is revealed in the media, as the young woman accuses him of rape and the scandal breaks. But, the series is mainly interested in another woman: Sophie Whitehouse, played by Sienna Miller, a model wife and collateral victim of the actions of a husband she supports, at least in appearance.

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On

“Get hitched or call it quits” reads this saucy series’ description. Launched by the producers of Love is Blind: this show put several couples to the test of commitment. A provocative TV reality show where couples have to evaluate the resistance of their love while meeting other potential partners. The first season promises to be electric!

Lizzo: watch out for the big girls

Lizzo has undeniably revolutionised the music industry, and is here to do the same with Reality TV. In the singer’s new show, we follow her journey to recruit plus-sized dancers to join her next world tour. The perfect occasion to put confident, sensual, and talented plus-sized dancers upfront. Each of the 10 contestants will be put through a series of tests to demonstrate their performing skills. The aim is to follow Lizzo in her search for the perfect crew, through hours of rehearsals, while promoting body positivity and self-love.

ELITE

The Spanish series comes back for a 5th season, and is already topping Netflix’s most popular shows. At the beginning of the season, the young Samuel is caught in a murder case that he did not commit, prompting him to discover heavy secrets of data traffic on Las Encinas high school students. With several new characters introduced and contributing to the plot, this season offers a viewing rich in twists and turns.

The Marked Heart

The New Colombian crime series released on April 20th is catching all the attention. The viewer is plunged into a chain of events that takes place when Simón’s wife Valeria is killed so that her heart can be used to save the wife of a millionaire, Camila. The murder is committed because Zacarías is willing to do anything for Camila to live. But, he remains ambiguous about how he managed to find a donor in such a short time.

If you are into suspenseful series this is a must-see for you!

Ten Percent

The British remake of “Call my Agent” is finally heading to Amazon’s Prime. Just like the successful French version, the series follows a group of agents at a fictional British talent agency and depicts the U.K industry’s fierce competition. The eight episodes will be launched on April 28th. Will it be as good as our French counterparts? We will see!

Heartstopper

The new phenomenon inspired by Alice Oman’s graphic novel, tells the love story of two school boys, Nick and Charlie. While romantic series are multiplying on Netflix, this one is worth the watch and has raised a lot of expectations, as it is the adaptation of a highly successful webcomic. Charlie, who is openly homosexual, develops feelings for ‘Rugby Lad’ Nick, but tries to hide his fondness in a bid to preserve their friendship, as he is unsure of Nick’s sexual orientation. However, Nick is soon to be confronted with the identity quest of adolescence, as he begins to question his sexuality and friendship with Charlie.

Dollface

If you’re looking for something girly and lighthearted with an incredible cast, we have you sorted:  Dollface season 2 is back on Disney +! 

This season will continue to chronicle the hilarious adventures of Jules (Kat Dennings), a vivacious young woman taking a fresh start after being dumped by her boyfriend. Instead of letting her heartbreak demoralize her, Jules will reclaim all the friendships she left behind. Seeing her overcoming hardship and feeling empowered by her girl squad: Madison (Brenda Song) and Star (Shay Mitchell), was exactly what we needed. In this new season, she’ll also build a new relationship with her co-worker Izzy (Esther Povitsky) which promises to be full of drama.

Airing on Disney+ here in the UK, episode one premiered last week and whilst the show’s concept may seem virtually identical to its predecessor in terms of following the lives of the family, the main difference of The Kardashians is more in how the family share their lives. The filming style, for example, is much grander than KUWTK, with episode one opening up with sweeping drone footage travelling from sister to sister.

That’s not the only difference either, as the show is generally filmed more like a documentary than a reality show, with appropriate fourth wall breaking included (of course). Sometimes the show even feels like it’s mimicking The Office with the sisters looking directly into the camera and serving up some snarky and witty remarks, showing that they’ve lost none of their comic timing in their ten-month break from the air. The iconic confessionals of KUWTK are also back, however, this time around are sometimes filmed as the sisters are on the go in addition to the more traditional seated variants.

As for what the episode itself focused on though, it opened up with a grandiose barbeque at Kim’s house which brings all of the family together. This is a slightly different style of barbeque compared to the ones we’re used to though, featuring monochrome ball-pit slides, buffet trays made of the finest silver and clothes that aren’t typically seen as traditional barbeque wear… if that is even a thing. Make no mistake it is an undeniably Kardashian affair and is topped off with the family conspiring if Kylie’s baby is going to be a boy.

The other major plot point of the episode involves Kim getting ready for her hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live, sorting through bodysuits to decide which one she’s going to wear and deciding how she’s going to wear her hair on the night. There’s also some cheeky foreshadowing of her current partner Pete Davidson as Kim mentions how he helped calm her nerves about the hosting gig whilst they were at the Met Gala. Sweet stuff.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a show about the Kardashians if there wasn’t plenty of info about all the girls’ relationships and how they are getting on. Kourtney and Travis Barker are happily loved up and enjoying life in the early stages of their relationship, Kim and Kanye are in a, seemingly, good place but as we’ve seen with real-time events regarding their relationship over the past few months that isn’t going to last and it’s unclear if Kanye is going to appear on screen at all this time around, meanwhile Khloé and Tristan are co-parenting and attending Tristan’s therapy sessions which lead to the pair reminiscing on when Tristan cheated on Khloé when she was pregnant. A little awkward.

The episode crescendos with Kim on the phone with her lawyer as he explains that there’s a threat of additional sex tape footage of Kim from 20 years ago being leaked, not too dissimilar to how the very first episode of KUWTK ended all those years ago. The main difference this time around though is in Kim’s response to the matter, refusing to place any blame on herself and not being made to feel scandalous about the ordeal. The maturity and candidness in her response highlight just how much Kim has grown over the years since the original sex tape leak and showcase her taking control of her narrative rather than having a man try to control it instead. 

This lawsuit is bound to be one of the major plot points of the show over the coming episodes and with Kim having more power and status compared to all those years ago, as well as four children, things look set to play out very differently. We’ll just have to tune into the next episode to find out how!

Bridgerton

Our favourite period drama returns this month, and we’re expecting all the opulent 19th century charm we saw in season one with a slightly renovated (but equally diverse and youthful) cast. Featuring Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey, this season is set to follow Anthony Bridgerton on his quest to marry debutante Edwina Sharma, but he has to get through her critical sister first!

The drama-fuelled and addictive series’ second chapter will hit Netflix on Friday, so keep your pearls and corsets at the ready.

Mood

In one of the most socially relevant shows of our time, the multi- talented Nicole Lecky wrote and stars in Mood, a show that speaks to a generation of social media fanatics. Mood follows protagonist Sasha, a rap star with dreams of becoming famous, who sets out on a mission to make it big on social media.

Dealing with relevant themes from the dangers of social media to hustle culture, the BBC 3 show is an important and relevant watch this spring.

Brand New Cherry Flavour

Having recently blown up on Tiktok for its racy scenes, this LA-based series isn’t for the faint
hearted. The Netflix eight- part series sees a female director seek sweet revenge from a TVproducer who wronged her.

Based on Todd Grimson’s 1996 novel, the gory series is a blast of freakish horror with a 90s cinematic aesthetic. While it was first released in August last year, the series has been trending on platforms like Tiktok and Twitter recently due to its sexual scenes that had viewers joking they had to wash their eyes after watching.

Upload

Fans of futuristic feel goods listen up, Amazon Prime’s Upload is the comedy you can’t miss this spring. Having just released season two, Greg Daniel’s Upload is a mesh of our
favourite dystopian comedies from Black Mirror to Afterlife. The show follows protagonist Nathan who is able to decide how his afterife will go. Robbie Amell and Andy Allo play exciting and lively characters in a love triangle trope.

From romance to sci-fi- this series is binge worthy no matter your preferred genre.

Pieces of her

Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times best seller, this series isn’t in Netflix’s UK top ten for no reason. The thrilling mystery follows 30- year-old Andy, who thought she knew everything there was to know about her relatively ordinary mother, until one day changed everything. Andy witnesses her mother violently dispose of a shooter, opening up the questions about her true identity. Inevitably, you’ll become emotionally involved in finding out who Andy’s elusive mother really is, keeping you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

Russian Doll

Ever feel like you’re living the same day over and over? Well, Natasha Lyonne’s Russian
Doll character, Nadia, is! Russian Doll captures Nadia living the same day over and over as
she uncovers the meaning behind her groundhog day. Capturing New York life in a comedic
style, the series (first released in 2019) is back on our radar as a second season is
confirmed for April and unlike the show’s protagonist, we can’t wait to do it all over again.
