Pointed-Toe Heels

Whilst pointed-toe heels can never really go out of style, they have taken a bit of a backseat recently. Square-toed shoes, round styles, like Uggs and Birkenstocks, and acrylic shapes replacing a classic stiletto have all been stealing the spotlight lately. However, the silhouette of the pointed-toe has been present in cowboy boots and chunky platform heels, will be coming
back into fashion in many different ways as the weather gets warmer. One way, as seen on Kendall Jenner, is with just tights, with another being peeping out from under baggy jeans. However you decide to style them, you will be wearing them for a long time as they complement pretty much any outfit.

Riding Boots

Riding boots are another staple shoe that hasn’t been seen so much in recent years, this is most likely due to the decrease in popularity of skinny jeans and rise of baggy jeans. However, these don’t have to be worn with exclusively skinny jeans and can look great styled in a 60s way with a mini skirt and turtleneck. They are really comfy, durable, timeless, and will elevate any outfit.

Ballet Flats

Ballet flats are going to be very trendy because they are so accessible. Although Miu Miu showcased these and basically backed the ballet core trend, they are available almost anywhere for very cheap. The style with crisscross padding are especially cute.

Ballet flats are trending thanks to the popularity of ‘balletcore’ on TikTok, and have been seen in numerous runway shows this season including Prada and Tod’s. This 2000s trend, previously worn with skinny jeans, has been styled with leg warmers and baggy jeans to create a casual, carefree look. The reason why these shoes will be so popular is that they are extremely affordable and there isn’t a lot of difference between a £20 pair and a £1000 pair. They also come in extremely cute colours, like pastel pink— perfect for spring.

Lace-Up Shoes

Similarly, another ‘balletcore’ inspired trend is lace up shoes, especially if they have a bow. These shoes are super cute for the warm weather, and can be tied in lots of different ways. Tied in a bow is arguably the cutest and trendiest, with bows being seen on many runways this season such as face bows from Simone Rocha, ponytail bows from Susan Fang, and lots of micro-bows attached to your hair like Sandy Liang. Another way this trend could be incorporated is by switching out laces in your current shoes for ribbons, adding a cute feminine touch!

Adidas Sneakers

Adidas is definitely having a moment right now, despite all the drama with Yeezy. Harry Styles has inspired many people to buy into the trend by sporting a host of different coloured pairs from the Adidas x Gucci Gazelle collection at the Grammys, on Instagram, and even drinking out of one pair on tour in Australia. On the other hand, gen-Z’s it girls Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Kendall Jenner have all been spotted wearing Adidas Sambas out and about. Both styles are easy to dress up or down, and are perfect for spring with jeans or a midi dress. They are also really affordable so will definitely sell out.

Thigh-high heels are a staple piece and exude a unique energy, and this pair from Amina Muaddi are no exception. Rather than looking like a conventional thigh-high with solid material all the way up to the thigh, this take on the classic instead features an elongated strap with encrusted jewels spiraling all the way up the leg. The strap would be notable enough on its own but the addition of the jewels really takes this heel to new heights and definitely makes it quite the statement shoe.

Mach & Mach

Summer is the season of bright, bold colours and there’s no reason that heels can’t be a part of that action. Rather than going with the standard black, this satin court shoe from Mach & Mach comes in a cool turquoise for a vibrant pop of colour and is embellished with crystals along the strap and across the adorably cute double bow that sits at the front of the shoe. The shoe also comes in an array of other colours including the equally vibrant purple and fuchsia, as well as the more traditional black and white.

The heel itself has one of the most unique shapes on the market right now, being chunky and pyramid shaped rather than thin and more square shaped, and is currently being loved by huge names such as Hailey Bieber and Elsa Hosk. These heels definitely have an identity of their own.

Want to take the high glamour and dial it all the way up to 100? Look no further than the Heloise 120 from Jimmy Choo, which is made out of a slick, gold leather. Definitely not a subtle shoe, these golden goliaths feature a stunning knotted strap that forms into a cute bow over the toes which gives these heels a unique sense of playful identity. The Heloise also features an ankle strap with buckle fastening and the standard block shaped heel.

Fashion weeks have passed and we’ve watched as head scarfs, pastel tones and folklore-inspired clothing has made their way from the runways to Spring trend forecasts. With the weather (sort of) warming up, the clouds (sort of) disappearing and the sun (sort of) making an appearance, we’re impatiently anticipating the arrival of warmer Spring days. But now, the question is; what shoes should we be wearing when they finally arrive? VOIR has compiled a rundown for you of the best shoes for the Spring and Summer seasons so you don’t have to.

Chunky Sandals 

Whether it’s the height that chunky soles give you that you love, or the ‘90s throwback vibes they give off – don’t sweat it, because the chunky shoe trend isn’t going anywhere. 2019-20 was the return of the chunky sneakers, but 2021 is the return of the chunky sandals – yay! Fashion week brought us lots of colourful, embellished, and Velcro style chunky sandals, from SEA’s chunky black soles to Jason Wu’s chunky sandal straps, stock up on some stocky footwear for Spring/Summer.

Prada

Chains 

Versace’s underwater style Spring/Summer show in all of its medusa-inspired beauty was the catalyst of the sea-inspired prints that are sure to trend this Spring, but along with them, their bright blue chunky chain shoes. In the iconic gold accessorised look from Versace, the shoes were strapped with chains. It’s a shoe trend that adds a little bit of power to any delicate Spring/Summer look.

Flatforms

Thankfully, the Spring/Summer ‘Flatform’ trend means your feet can be a little more comfortable. Appearing in the collections of Erdem and Gabriella Hearst, the Flatforms add a bold, striking look to any ensemble. Offering up an opportunity for more colourful soles, Flatforms are an investment for your Spring/Summer wardrobe.

Lace 

There’s nothing quite as appropriate for the floral, sunny delicate days of Spring and Summer as lace. Valentino introduced white lace decorated shirts for Spring, so it makes sense that these subtle details would be carried through into our accessorising. Fendi’s Spring looks have been stimulant for the lace shoe trend this year, as their light and airy collection heavily featured delicately hand-woven lace boots, slides, mules, pumps, and heels.

Clogs 

A shoe that has always been the focus of some debate – you either love them or you hate them; the clogs. But regardless of how you feel about them, they’re back for 2021. Louis Vuitton and Hermes used the clog as a modest, simplistic accessory that in neutral palettes can allow for more clothing-focused attention, whilst adding simplistic stylized additions such as studs or straps in order to elevate the shoe slightly, or a sleeker fit and style to make them futuristic.

If you don’t know who Amina Muaddi is, then chances are you do know her shoes. It is nearly impossible to scroll through Instagram or Pinterest at the moment without coming across one of her signature hourglass shaped heel, or perhaps a bejewelled transparent pump.

All over social media right now the likes of Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Irina Shayk are wearing shoe designer Amina Muaddi’s innovative creations. Her heels even made it to Kris Kardashian’s annual Christmas Eve party.

We first became aware of the Paris-based footwear designer in 2019 when Muaddi launched her namesake solo brand which soon caught the attention of the fashion world. In 2020, word of her brand rapidly spread as Muaddi’s neon jewelled designs and attention-grabbing boots became Hollywood’s most coveted accessory.

Exclusively released and much anticipated, Muaddi managed to do the unthinkable and sell out a collection of heels during a pandemic. No one had anywhere to wear them and yet they still sold out everywhere – quite an accolade for any designer.

Raised between Jordan, Romania and Italy, Muaddi always had an obsession with shoes. Speaking to Vogue, Muaddi explained why designing footwear is her real passion: “The right shoes can make you feel cooler, sexier, edgier, or more feminine, depending on the style that you’re wearing. They have the power to change your mood and to alter, not your personality, but your persona at that moment. I think they’re the most powerful items in fashion”

Amina Muaddi

Coveted by anyone on Instagram who can get their hands on Muaddi’s elusive footwear, the revolutionary tapered heel is what the designer has become best known for. Combining the comfort of a wide base and the sexy feminine elegance of a stiletto, Muaddi’s heels are not only a statement talking point but also a practical heel which can be worn all day.

The popularity of Amina’s shoes on Instagram has, however, been no mere accident. The designer uses social media as a place to have fun – but primarily as a platform for her business. Interacting with customers and getting their feedback, Muaddi has gone on to create an air of exclusivity both through her social media imagery and controlled releases of stock. This has fed the media frenzy when it comes to her designs – they are hard to get hold of which has only made them more sought after.

Muaddi’s personal style is also something which has attracted the attention of her 722k followers, including the likes of Rihanna. Favouring contrasting pieces and combining elegance with edginess, Muaddi’s style epitomizes the modern woman, something she shares with the singer turned fashion mogul. Rihanna’s personal stylist is friends with Muaddi, so she was one of the first to wear her designs. This relationship led to a collaboration between Amina Muaddi and Fenty in 2020 which she described as a ‘marriage of their personal tastes’.

The first collaboration Muaddi launched with her own brand was with none other than the rapper A$AP Rocky. Featuring bedazzled chain accents, the pair came together to create four designs inspired by their similar aesthetic.

In October 2020, Amina brought out a collection of mini bags as her first venture outside of shoes. Dubbed the ‘Amini’s’ the satin and bejewelled handle bags have marked a diversification of Amina Muaddi’s brand journey, and we are excited to see what comes next for the inventive designer in 2021.
