It’s sort of hard now to imagine the sensational Beyoncé before she was a sensation. However, there was, of course, a time when Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was not yet Queen Bey and known to the world as a cultural icon. In 1997 Beyoncé first rose to fame as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny’s Child who released five albums becoming one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. Her seven studio solo albums achieved her icon status with all of them debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. She is now one of the world’s best-selling recording artists having sold over 200 million records worldwide.

She cites many artists as having a crucial influence on her sound and career such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, and the super sensual sophisti-pop singer Sade Adu.

For those unfamiliar with the Nigerian-born British singer Helen Folasade Adu, known simply as Sade, she is the lead singer of the eponymous band and an incredibly influential soul singer with six stunning studio albums under her belt. Starting out singing back up in band the Pride, Sade formed in 1984 after her solo performances gained attention of record companies. Aailyah, Brandy, and Drake have all named her as an influence on their music with Drake even having a tattoo of the singer on his torso.

First-time listeners to Sade should start with her debut album, Diamond Life, one of the top-selling debut recordings of the ’80s and the best-selling debut ever by a British female vocalist. It’s impossible not to fall for her charms – her honey-smooth husky vocals aresoul soothing, the synth and sax create gorgeous drama, and the incredible lyrics paint stories of heartbreak and transport the listener to nocturnal 80s London. All nine songs are of the highest quality. Even if you haven’t listened to the artist, you may be familiar with the first track, ‘Smooth Operator’, about a fashionable womanising heartbreaker who Sade sees through. The song’s chorus and post-chorus are ridiculously catchy – you’ll be singing “Coast-to-coast, L.A. to Chicago” for days after listening. ‘Cherry Pie’, which describes a sweet love going sour, is another highlight on the album with clean guitar licks, breath-taking harmonies, and some very funky bass. It’s clear to see how Sade’s cool sexy sound has an effect on Beyoncé’s own musical style. With all of Sade’s discography holding gems, there’s lots to dive into if you enjoy her debut.

Sade is renowned for her super chic sense of style. She studied fashion design at Saint Martin’s School of Art and was a model before her musical career. Her outfits are clean cut and often B&W. Simple jumpers, suit trousers, sexy backless bodysuits, blue jeans, loose men’s shirts, and leather jackets make up the singer’s wardrobe – her look is timeless despite being nestled in 80s and 90s trends. With red lipstick and gold hoops Sade accessories her outfits minimally and effectively.

Doja Cat & Lauryn Hill

California rapper Doja Cat marched to the beat of her own drum from the moment she stepped into the spotlight in 2018 with her viral single ‘Mooo!’. After releasing three studio albums and a load of singles that hit the mark of pop perfection (‘Kiss Me More’, Need to Know’, ‘Woman’, ‘Get Into It (Yuh)’, ‘Say So’) she has solidified herself as one of the most exciting artists in pop music today.

Doja states an array of artists spanning different genres as influential on her work from her idol Nicki Minaj to Rihanna, Beyoncé, D’Angelo, Missy Elliott, Erykah Badu, and Jamiroquai. In an interview with The Honey Pop from 2021, Doja said that her mother’s music sounded like “poetry” to her and that one of the artists her mother would listen to was Lauryn Hill.

“My mom got me some albums when I was a kid, and they were Rihanna, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, but she would listen to D’Angelo and Jamiroquai and Lauryn and Erykah… When she would play Busta and Lauryn, it sounds more than music to me. It sounds like poetry. It’s entertaining to listen to. And I was always really inspired by that.”

The Honey Pop

Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, SZA, Jay-Z, Nas, Lil’ Kim, and K-pop artist Jennie of Blackpink have also all cited Ms Lauryn Hill as influential on them. Neo-soul singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer Lauryn Hill is often credited as one of the greatest rappers of all time and as a key figure in bringing female rappers into the limelight. The New Jersey singer’s career started in 1993 when she starred in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg. In high school, she formed the group which later become the iconic hip-hop trio Fugees alongside Prakazrel Michel and Wyclef Jean.

If you’re looking for a place to start with Lauryn’s music, Fugees’ second LP The Score is the perfect place to do so. Peaking at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, it has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. It’s an absolute staple in the hip hop genre and has undergone a resurgence in recent years with Gen Z discovering the album due to ‘Ready or Not’ and ‘Fu-Gee-La’’s popularity on TikTok. ‘Ready or Not’ is a cold ominous track that stands the test of time and displays Lauryn’s prowess as a rapper. Their cover of ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’ became their biggest hit – and for good reason with Lauryn’s incredible vocals touching the hearts of many. ‘Fu-Gee-La’ is super catchy with its infectious beat and chorus that invites the listener to sing along. Overall, the album displays everything you could want from a hip hop album with smooth flows, memorable beats, and excellent productions. Despite it being almost two hours long time flies when listening to it.

Lauryn’s only solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill released in 1998 is also an album any soul, R&B, hip hop, or rap fan is guaranteed to enjoy. With lush production, passionate vocals performances, and melodies that will grip you and won’t let go, it’s plain to see why the album won five Grammys. The concept of the album is airtight with Lauryn delivering several lessons through the tracks and the skits set in a school with the teacher asking the students questions about love and relationships. The album delves into several themes such as love, motherhood, heartbreak, and religion.

Lauryn is one of the key figures in influencing women’s style in hip hop culture as well as being a muse for the fashion world in general. Her style has been an inspiration for several fashion collections such as the s/s 2000 Dior collection, the 2017 hip hop collection by Alexander Wang, and the Menswear s/s 2021 Louis Vuitton collection. Associated with the revival of the natural hair movement, she is known for styling her hair in braids, locs, and afros. Lauryn’s outfits scream cool girl with her mixture of feminine dresses with more masculine pieces like sports jackets, bucket hats, and trainers. The pops of colour in her makeup and clothes make her always eye-catching. Whilst her look is a little less out there than Doja’s we definitely see the influence Lauryn has in Doja’s unique style.

Rihanna & Grace Jones

Barbadian singer, actress, and businesswoman Robyn Rihanna Fenty is an inspiration to many with eight acclaimed studio albums and 250 million record sales worldwide making her the second best-selling female music artist of all time after Madonna. Of course, she has people she admires herself and has Madonna, Mariah Carey, Bob Marley, Prince, and Janet Jackson as among her influences.

Grace Jones certainly inspires Rihanna’s style with Rihanna recently donning an ensemble very similar to Jones’ style throughout the years.Lady Gaga, Annie Lennox, Lorde, and Nile Rodgers have all spoken about Jones as an influence on their music.

The model, singer, and actress was born in Jamaica and moved to New York as a teenager. She started off as a model in the 70s before being signed by Island Records and releasing her debut album Portfolio in 1977. She really shined however when she ditched her disco sound in favour of new wave in the 80s. Jones’ fifth album Nightclubbing is the easiest place to start with her music. Though the album is genre-bending mixing elements of disco, with new wave, reggae, art pop, and R&B and therefore at first a little inaccessible to unfamiliar ears hits ‘Pull Up to the Bumper’ and ‘Demolition Man’ are sure to sway any sceptical listener. Slinky, smoky, and mechanical it’s a mood setter for a drizzly cold evening.

Jones has been a muse for designers Issey Miyake and Thierry Mugler as well as for photographer and artist Andy Warhol. Renowned for her androgynous looks inspired by gay culture she is often pictured wearing sharp suits, gloves, and a scarf headdress blending the lines between masculine and feminine dress. She is famous for wearing striking eye make-up, contour that accentuates her high cheekbones, a red lip, and her boxy short haircut.

Shygirl & Róisín Murphy

Our favourite new rapper, DJ, and singer-songwriter Shygirl has some varied influences – unsurprising considering her distinctive sound. The hyperpop nymph Blane Muse from South London, whose debut album Nymph dropped last year, listed Mariah Carey, Aphex Twin, Madonna, Rihanna, Björk, and Irish electropop singer Róisín Murphy as among her biggest influences in an interview with MTV.

Róisín Murphy has been making obscenely good off-the-wall electronic art pop, disco, and house music since 1994 when she first formed the duo Moloko alongside her romantic partner at the time Mark Brydon. If you want to dive into the band’s work a good place to start is their fourth and final album Statues from 2003. Since Murphy and Brydon had split before the album was made but as the group were contractually obliged to make another album Murphy handled most of the project without the help of Brydon setting the stage for her solo career. Statues is a buoyant energetic album that documents the milestones of a relationship before its disintegration with lyrics about heartbreak set to funky house instrumentals. Standout tracks are the grand ‘Forever More’ and the funky magical ‘Familiar Feeling’ although the whole album is perfect for hitting the dancefloor to.

As for Róisín’s solo albums, her latest Róisín Machine encapsulates everything that makes her so captivating as an artist. The nu-disco album features ten insanely replayable tracks all hypnotic due to the repetitive house beats and majestic spoken-word vocals. The album starts with the perfect dance track ‘Simulation’ which entrances the listener with the Daft Punk-esque synths and echoey vocals. ‘Kingdom of Ends’ is one of the best build-ups in a song with the track promising to erupt into a euphoric party at any moment but never quite delivering the satisfaction. The stupidly sexy ‘Shellfish Mademoiselle’ is a thumping rhythmic track that just oozes sleazy charm.

Although both Shygirl and Rósín Murphy are house artists their music completely differs with Róisín projecting an 80s-inspired deep house sound and Shygirl giving us house mixed with hip hop and electronica to create a cold futuristic vibe. Despite this Róisín’s experimental spirit clearly runs deep in Shygirl too with both artists bending genres to achieve new sounds.

Murphy described her performances as “a bit like The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in The Financial Times due to her audience’s tendency to dress up to mimic Murphy’s outlandish style. Avant-garde is the term that springs to mind when looking at Murphy’s experimental costumes that she wears on stage. Her looks are reminiscent of the 90s NYC club kids with boxy outfits in bright primary colours, Sioux Sioux eyeliner, and wacky concepts such as a yeti suit or a 3 headed headpiece. She can easily channel her sexy side too with her latex one-pieces and suits serving steamy coolness.

She told the magazine, “I know that I’ve done a lot of pink and soft things, a lot of pop and glittery sounds but for this next era, I’m going in a more masculine direction”.

Though in the past Doja has always loved a girly moment this grungier direction is not a total surprise to fans as she seems to have steadily been incorporating more edgier elements into her style and music throughout her career. She experimented with rap on the track ‘Vegas’ she recorded for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis last year and even on her glitzy second album Hot Pink she toyed with punky looks wearing a black cut-out mesh dress with smoky make-up in the music video for ‘Streets’.

The boundary-pushing artist also expressed her desire to explore punk and told Variety, “I want to explore more of a raw, unfiltered, hardcore punk sort of thing. It’s just something that I’m doing for my own personal fun — getting some drummers and guitarists together”.

Although she also added, “I don’t even know if that’s gonna make it out there”.

As for a tour announcement, we’ll have to wait a bit longer. Doja told Variety that currently she has no plans for a tour: “I do want to make sure that everything I’m doing right now in terms of recording is solidified before I make any decisions. The baby hasn’t been born yet”.

A quick scroll at Doja’s Instagram illuminates this evolution with her recent fashion choices reflecting the change in her sound. Before October, her ‘gram showed outfits full of pinks, yellows, and white pieces among the quirky posts of her dogs, silly selfies, and feet pics. Now the singer posts stunning images of her in full gothic glam with plenty of dark leather, PVC, and lacy looks to drool over.

To honour Doja’s style revamp here are a few pieces you can use to achieve her vampy looks.

Doja pulled up to the Valentino Spring 2023 Couture show channelling Betty Page in a long black wig with micro bangs, a gorgeous jet-black full-length wool coat, and a glam two-piece set with a black crystal bra and black mini skirt. Elevating her look were a pair of chic PVC heels, sheer tights, black gloves, and diamond crucifix necklaces. The real star of the show was her custom Chris Habana crystal white glove bag holding a bottle of Patrón – sadly you’ll struggle to get your hands on one of those.

Lizzo is an expert at making a fashion statement and she did just that at the awards last night. She wore a gorgeous orange Dolce and Gabbana fit which was an indulgence to look at. The cloaked coat (which resembled more of a duvet cover in shape and size) had beautiful orange 3D flowers worked on to it. She symbolised the beginning of Spring, which was a fresh and long awaited feeling we needed to have.  

Doja Cat 

Doja Cat has had an incredible couple weeks back-to-back of main character fashion moments. After her full-body crystal encrusted Schiaparelli look at Haute Couture week, we had to wonder, how will she continue to meet this ever-rising bar. Her slick Versace look certainly hit the nail on the head. Doja rocked up to the awards in a black vinyl mermaid gown partnered with full-arm matching gloves. The dress was very Morticia Addams as the train was exaggerated and the fabric plays right into the goth-core aesthetic.  

H.E.R 

The peplum returns. We really loved the Bach Mai look which H.E.R wore and can’t imagine how anyone could disagree. The full black was very chic and the sheer and velvet combination complemented each other so well. A lady who loves her shades, she wore round frames and accessorized with layers of silver sparkly necklaces.  

Lourdes Leon 

Creating a similar moment to the red crystals of Doja the other week, Lourdes Leon appeared on the red carpet in a lush Area gown. The gown was also embroidered with sparkly red crystals, coincidence? We will be keeping our eyes open for more of these looks. The floor length dress was a spectacular piece of craft and was very flattering. The striking cross necklace worn was eye-catching and hints towards the punk influences which are coming into 2023 fashion. 

Bebe Rexha 

A pretty vision in pink from Bebe Rexha. The halter-neck dress worn by Rexha was very classic Hollywood and we always appreciate an old Hollywood glamour inspired look. The Moschino design could not have been better showcased than on the ‘I’m Good’ star. Note to self, high-gloves are continuing to pop-up in some of the most spectacular looks of 2023.  

JLO 

JLO does not know the meaning of a fashion flop. Every time she is on the red-carpet, she is wearing incredible outfits which make their way into the fashion history books. The navy Gucci gown was dripped with fringes of crystals and featured a large ruffled sheer train. Nothing is too much sparkle for JLO, so she layered three Bulgari diamond necklaces and threw on a selection of rings.

Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello wore a stunning dress from the PatBo Spring 2023 runway collection. The dress was very elegant but also tapped into multiple major fashion trends of the year. The silver and pearl embroidered aspect of the dress (as well as the jewellery) is something to keep in mind for the up-coming season. The 3D roses are also a design which we are expected to see cropping up in the next few months. We loved the design and think the minimalist simplicity was complimentary and striking.  

Cardi B

 An incredibly high-fashion, almost theatrical look from Cardi B had us on board straight away. A Fantastical piece of design and craft was worn by the star who continues to bring us anthem after anthem. The bright blue cut-out gown was part of the Gaurva Gupta Haute Couture collection which showcased at the Spring 2023 fashion week. Staying away from over-powering the look with jewellery, she opted for no necklace, but diamond earrings and a three-finger ring.  

Beyoncé 

The Queen B broke history at the Grammy awards last night as she took home her 32^nd win. The silver and gold Gucci dress was made for a star and she obviously pulled it off beautifully. The record-breaker looked phenomenal in the futuristic reflective mini-dress. We were obsessed with the accompanying black leather gloves which pulled the whole look together seamlessly.  

Anitta

This look was one we couldn’t sleep on. Striking would have been an understatement as the black leather and lace gown was a piece of master craft. The strapless vintage Versace number hugged Anitta’s figure until it flared out into an incredibly artistic train. The train featured layer after layer of ruffle which led the eye through a maze of fabric. Another gown with the Morticia aesthetic, the Versace gown is right on the goth core trend. Anitta embellished with some stunning silver jewellery which complimented the look.

Muni Long

Muni Long took home the award for ‘Best R&B Performance of The Year’ and we are here praising her for her look as well as her win. The sheer gown resembled a pink sky at sunrise. The airy and ruffled effect of the train of the dress was day-dream worthy. Super gorgeous and feminine.  

Megan Fox 

The slim-fitted white gown which Megan Fox wore was a gorgeous choice for the model. The corseted bodice of the dress was fully embroidered with gems and jewels (which obviously matched with MGK’s look for the evening). The dress was divinely feminine and visually eye-catching as it caught the light and glistened. No surprise that it was a Zuhair Murad design.

Paris Hilton

Last night, Paris Hilton gave us a look to remember. The sparkly Celine dress gorgeously dripped down Paris and we loved the cut of the dress. Cut-outs featured in the back and front of the dress (very 2023 if we may say so) and the super fine straps exaggerated the sense of delicacy the gown possessed. Paris also chose to avoid heavy, overpowering jewellery for this look to keep it as minimalist as possible.

Doja Cat continued her reign over Paris Fashion Week with this all-black ensemble that she wore to the Valentino Haute Couture show. The micro-bangs, duster cape and black co-ord came together to create a chic and fashionable look, but the look alone was lacking the personality that Doja Cat always injects into her outfits. And then came the bag. Although Eri Ishizu isn’t one to shy away from extravagance when it comes to her manicures, this Met Gala look was, quite frankly, impossible to dislike. Using Tweezerman tools, Lizzo’s nails were cut and filed to a natural round shape, whilst her cuticles were pushed back, her nail surface was smoothed, and her hang nails were trimmed. The spiral press on nail prep then began with Eri applying two coats of OPI’s ONYX gel colour, followed by chrome effect none wipe – cured under the UV light for 30 seconds. After applying more chrome effect powder in the shade Gold Digger (using a sponge tip for a gold ombré look,) the final step included two more coats of chrome effect non wipe gel top coat, cured under the UV light each time. Whilst it may appear complicated, there’s no doubt that chrome powder is a must-have this year!

Baby Braids

From Matilda Djerf to Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, baby braids inevitably steal the #1 spot when it comes to summer hair trends. Their versatility is an irrefutable highlight, proving accessible on a variety of hair types whilst accompanying both curly and straight locks. To achieve the look, simply part your hair down the middle with a comb, before separating two diagonal, inch-wide, triangular sections from your parting to your front hairline. Next, plait the sections from top to bottom and secure them with a mini hair tie.

Space Buns

Space buns are a classic, but if you’re feeling inspired by their recent surge in popularity, you’re not alone. To re-create Sav Hudson’s look, simply part your hair down the middle, create two pigtails (whether high on top of your head or low on either side of your nape,) and secure. To follow, take one of your pigtails, twist it away from your face to create a rope, then coil the rope into a bun. The tighter you twist the rope, the smaller your bun will turn out. Don’t forget to tease your hair by lifting up your pigtails and running a comb through them – this will add an extra layer of volume.

Bubble Pigtails

If you’re a fan of baby braids but looking for a fun alternative, look no further. What could be better than bubble pigtails? To execute the look, section your hair down the middle and create two pigtails. Gradually tie your elastic bands equally apart from one another, working your way down the hair until you reach the bottom. When complete, use your fingers to pull apart each section, and as the elastics rise, pull them down to adjust them. It’s as simple as that!

The Spiky Up-Do

Whilst elevated, there’s no one better than Doja Cat to show us how it’s done when it comes to new hairstyles. Whilst this spiky, 90s inspired trend can be incorporated in a variety of ways, whether that be within a singular ponytail, bun, or even pigtails, there’s no doubt that this trick is destined to spice up your holiday hair favourites, proving popular not only on the runway, but amongst supermodels such as Bella Hadid. Part your down the middle, secure it into a ponytail, and utilise a hair pomade to smooth fly-aways. Next, twist the lengths of your hair together and loop them around your ponytail, tucking the ends into the front elastic and leaving them to fan out as spikes.

Sleek, Sleek, Sleek

To emulate Kourtney’s sleek bun, simply part your hair down the middle before sectioning the front, leaving out a piece that extends just one inch from your front hairline. Tie the remainder of your hair into a ponytail, and wrap it around itself to re-tie it into a bun. With the remaining front piece, split it down the middle and use a hair straightener to flick the ends towards your face, before coating the remainder of your locks in hair gel to ensure they won’t budge. Elegant and practical, we adore this simplistic take on the classic bun.

Doja Cat – Vegas

This month, we got our first glimpse into what to expect from the upcoming ELVIS film. Once again showing us just how versatile she is, Doja teamed up with Shonka to sample ‘Hound Dog’, creating a modern take on a classic Elvis track. We have had ‘Vegas’ on repeat the past couple of weeks!

Alex Rzyan – Hot Headed

‘Hot Headed’ is the track that is validating all our impulsive feelings throughout Mercury retrograde, with lyricism based on how being quick-tempered can affect your relationship. Although the lyrics are feisty as ever, the accompaniment of ‘Hot Headed’ is subtle and laid-back, featuring smooth guitar lines and a downtempo shuffled drum pattern.

Becky G – Bailé Con Mi Ex

Bailé Con Mi Ex is the latest single from Becky’s second album ‘Esquemas’, which finally dropped last Friday, 13th May. The track radiates delightful energy bursting with disco-pop characteristics, as Becky sings lyrics on the subject of reconnecting with an ex. The album itself is pretty exciting too, as Becky stands in her spotlight, shining in both collaborations and solo tracks.

Post Malone, Roddy Rich – Cooped Up 

Nothing says summer quite like a Post Malone track, and we were so excited to see that he is finally back on the music scene! ‘Cooped Up’ takes us on Post’s journey of letting go of the pandemic blues that we all relate to, and the feelings of being stuck. The track comes as the first release of his upcoming album, coming June 3rd and will feature collaborations with the likes of Doja Cat and Kid Laroi. 

Fivio Foreign, Chloe, KayCyy – Hello 

Teaming up to deliver a smooth and catchy rap track this month were Fivio Foreign, Chloe and KayCyy. The collaboration comes from Fivio’s latest album ‘B.I.B.L.E’ which was released earlier this year in April. The trio came together for an energetic and attitude driven video in a typical drill setting, as they perform romantic lyrics. 

Madeline the Person – MEAN!

Currently blowing up on Tiktok as a result of the emotional and relatable lyrics on the subject of those who use ‘honesty’ as a way to hurt your feelings, this song is one of the most vulnerable and beautiful tracks out at the minute. Complete with heavenly harmonies, relaxed acoustic guitar motifs and an inventive melody, this needs to be in your playlist!

Jack Harlow – Dua Lipa

One of the current biggest heartthrobs around, Jack Harlow, has just released his latest album ‘Come Home The Kids Miss You’. Following high anticipation and many viral moments, Harlow’s album has shot to number 3 on the Billboard charts, proving he is a force to be reckoned with. Aside from the chart-topper ‘First Class’, the track on everyone’s lips is ‘Dua Lipa’, in which Jack goes on to say “Dua Lipa, I’m trying to do more with her than do a feature”… Talk about being bold!

A$AP Rocky- D.M.B.

Proving nothing is coming between him and his baby mama, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky broke the internet earlier this month with the video for his latest track ‘D.M.B.’. Featuring different setups of him and Riri, whether they are partying or hustling, the couple takes us on a journey that only proves more so to the world that they are stronger than ever. The song itself has all the attitude you would expect from an A$AP track whilst coming across as a love letter to Rihanna, with an apparent line being “She got bank accounts too, with big amounts, shit you couldn’t count”. 

Pip Millett – Downright

We can always rely on Pip Millett to hit us right in the feels, and this month was no exception. ‘Downright’ is based on Pip’s struggle with depression, brought to life through a Lo-Fi style beat that crescendos into a potent chorus in which Pip sings “I know you still need me when I’m down. Down is just downright, Get the fuck out of my head”. 

Camila Cabello, Maria Becerra – Hasta Los Dientes 

Following the release of Camila’s latest triumphant album ‘Familia’, she has treated us to one of the most vibrant and fun videos we have seen from her. ‘Hasta Los Dientes’ is a celebration of great pop music, sung in Spanish by both Camila and collaborator Maria Becerra. The duo take on a plethora of vivid wigs, extravagant outfits and infectious choreography; you need to watch this! 

Kendrick Lamar – The Heart Part 5

You can’t deny the buzz surrounding Kendrick Lamar right now, as his long-awaited album ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ dropped last week. To get us hyped for the album, Kendrick dropped ‘The Heart Part 5’, a release pattern he has used since the early stages of his career, as a means to share the mindset he is currently in. The track sees Lamar seamlessly blend live instruments and string sections with his classic staccato flow, as he raps heartfelt lyrics on the subject of what it means to him to be an influential figure, creating positive change. The video sees Kendrick transform into multiple culturally influential black figures, relating directly to the lyrics of the song.

Posing to her millions of followers at the press day of the Kardashian’s new show, Kylie
Jenner posed in what first appeared as an ordinary stripped back look, but after scrolling
through the post it’s hard to ignore Kylie carrying the translucent, devil horned accessory by
Coperni X Heven that is anything but ordinary. The bag is the brainchild of Parisian fashion
label Coperni in collaboration with Heven (a Brooklyn- based glassmaker), it’s made entirely
from glass and features an abstract horn-shaped design. The bag was first debuted at
Coperni’s FW22 show, where model Gigi Hadid donned the clear accessory with a pink
gown. Since then, celebrities have been making the case for the glass accessory as the bag
of the year.

On the Grammys red carpet last week, singers Doja Cat and Tinashe coordinated the
accessory with their award show gowns. Doja Cat’s Versace look was finished with Coperni’s
blue ombre glass purse. Meanwhile, Tinashe contrasted her pink GCDS gown with the
label’s red bag. Both stars’ ability to match their look so elegantly with the bag speaks to the
diverse and universal nature of the accessory.

But, we know what you’re thinking, what good is a bag if I can’t use it? Surprisingly, the
accessory is made to be completely practical. In an interview with i-D, Peter Dupont (one
half of Heven’s founder duo) argued for the accessory’s practical use. He claimed, ‘our
pieces always have functionality… you can put your phone in it, your wallet, it even doubles
as a vase’- talk about getting your money’s worth! The bag’s practicality has already been
put to the test, Kylie Jenner’s purse was stuffed with lipsticks from her own cosmetics line
while Doja Cat filled hers with candy (so we can rest assured it fits the essentials).

It’s not just the celebrity sphere that is in favour of the look though. After fashion bible
publications like Vogue deemed the accessory ‘the hottest bag in the world’ this week, don’t
be surprised if this becomes the 2022 bag to beat.
