The streets of fashion week are just as much of a show as the runways and often showcase the more accessible of the trends displayed on the catwalks. They show how real people are taking the inspiration they are seeing at shows and putting their own spin on it. We thought we’d give a breakdown of some reoccurring trends we saw on the streets of NYC.

Pops Of Red

One trend we’ve been seeing everywhere for the last few months is the pops of red, or full monochromatic red looks. We’ve loved seeing this on runway but seeing it from a street style point of view is even more special. Seeing how people fit it into their own personal style and make it work in a non-commercial way is so much more genuine.

We’ve been seeing a lot of red coming in in regard to accessories and footwear, specifically ballet flats and handbags. We’ve also seen come incredible red hair accessories this fashion week – bows, hairclips, and anything else you can possibly think of.

Statement Scrunchies

Continuing along the pop of colour trend, one thing we noticed among some particularly stylish looks at NYFW, was how many people chose to incorporate a pop of colour into their looks through a big statement scrunchie. We are particularly fond of the look below by fashion lover and fashion week attendee Aisha Farida.

Bubble Skirts

Bubble Skirts are definitely an up-and-coming spring summer staple. Whilst they give us a flashback to the bubble skirts of the early 2000’s, we are ready to embrace 2024’s take on the iconic bubble skirt with open arms. They offer us to have our legs out and feel more weather appropriate as we come into the warmer months while not having to sacrifice any of the character of our style in doing so. 

We are starting to see them slowly trickle down to more affordable high street stores after being all the rage on runway in 2023, just in time for Spring/Summer. They are also so versatile when it comes to styling, we love the monochromatic pieces used in this styling by an attendee of the Sandy Liang show, and the stunning silhouette it creates.

Bonnets

Bonnets and Balaclavas have been in the fashion world for a while now, and while the rise of the trend was totally unpredictable, the origin could be traced back to Dior’s cruise collection in 2022 in which several of the looks came with matching bonnets. They are a bit of a marmite of the fashion world, as you either love them or hate them. But we are not one to turn down aa quirky accessory so are completely here for it.  Bonnets are the perfect way to add a touch of chic whimsy to otherwise, simple outfits.

Oversized Coats

Coats are never out of style, especially somewhere with weather that reaches below freezing temperatures, and this Fashion Week our favourite fashionable New Yorkers didn’t disappoint, and strutted the streets with some particularly chic outerwear. Neutrals were huge, particularly darker browns as well as colours more fitting for the coming spring months like the stunning mint green embossed coat below.

Rihanna, who is expecting her second child, wore a checkered two-piece denim set with a matching bra top and coordinated beanie to the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2024 ready-to-wear men’s fashion show during Paris Fashion Week. 

A$AP Rocky matched his partner well, wearing a stone-washed denim jacket and contrasting denim shorts. The rapper of “Praise the Lord” completed his ensemble with a matching hat, sparkling sunglasses, and big Louis Vuitton boots.

This sleek two-piece matching set is practically demure for Fox. This sleek design is well complemented by its gunmetal metallic accessories, which pick up the shine of the sculpted cut-outs and high-gloss ruffles on the skirt and top. Fox’s poodle frock from Wiederhoeft’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection has us completely smitten. If you didn’t already know, Fox expresses her sense of humour through her clothing, as evidenced by her amusing sequin gown.

]]> Japanese style is both futuristic and nostalgic, combing current trends with vintage designs and layering pieces on pieces to create unique fashion statements. These 10 looks play with traditionally masculine and feminine materials and styles, capturing the youth culture of 21st-century Japan.

1.

Models Aya and Ami put their own twist on the see-through dress trend, layering matching tulle Chika Kisada dresses over baggy t-shirts for the show. They dressed up the casual look with matching chunky green boots and silver chains, which contrasted with the delicate tulle.

For the Inscrire runway show, this influencer wore a vintage Maison Margiela dress from the spring/summer 1997 collection. The purple Inscrire track pants brought an athletic and preppy vibe to the outfit, contrasting with the industrial burlap tunic. She tied the look together with black leather accessories: a Hermès belt bag, Margiela tabis, and an Acne Studios biker jacket.

For the day three Yohei Ohno show, this influencer was channeling 60s fashion with the polka dots. She incorporated the pattern on her blouse and the strap of her bag. She matched this with black knee-high boots, which contrasted with the pale lemon yellow shorts and shirt. The tailored shorts add an androgynous sense to the outfit and contrast with the femininity of the silk blouse.

The fourth look combines many different styles and textures to create a preppy outfit, inspired by 90s Ralph Lauren and actress Yuki Uchida. The fashion journalist, Yu Masui, has reworked a jumper and top to create a layered athletic jersey and paired this with a long tartan kilt. The skirt is followed by loose, rolled socks and shiny brogues, resembling a school uniform. He tops off the outfit with bedazzled hair clips and love heart earrings.

The next looks come from stylist Yan and director Yuri, who combine vintage pieces to create two very aesthetically varied outfits. Yan mixes lace, fur, and ruffles for her feminine and romantic look. On the other hand, Yuri layers multiple belts around his waist and knees and finishes the outfit with Balenciaga sneakers for a modern and edgy look.

The next look comes from Naoya (right), who channels school uniform once again, incorporating the huge influence of anime, schoolgirls, and ‘seishun’ on Japanese fashion. He layers a vintage leather coat and Offshore parker over a Ralph Lauren shirt, a vintage tie, black shorts, and finishes the look with black Zara brogues and white socks.

For this outfit, Japanese TikToker Mari dressed head-to-toe in Maison J. Simone ahead of the show. She played on the boys’ boxers trend, showing the waistband underneath a foil plaid skirt, and pairing this with thigh-high patent boots. She wore a ribbed white tank top to match the boxers, layered a cropped blazer on top, and accessorised with a crochet net purse.

This model duo channeled Britney and Justin in their all-denim outfits for the Tanaka show. The outfits were very cowboy-inspired, with his wide-leg pants and button-down shirt combining the Wild West with modern trends, thanks to the pale yellow shade and ripped kneecaps. She channelled cowboy style through a western-style studded belt, a classic patchwork denim dress, and detailed cowboy boots.

This next set of outfits, worn by models Maria (left) and Lisei (right), once again mixes elegant tulle with chunky leather boots. Maria’s Chika Kisada dress is layered over black sequin flares and boxy square-toed boots and adorned with a y2k chainmail shrug. Lisei wears transparent Chika Kisada biker shorts over boxers, adding a masculine feel that balances out her tulle tank top. She finishes off the outfit with a pair of chunky Chelsea boots and a red lip.

10.

The final look, created by vintage store owner Ruka, instantly catches your attention with these fur trousers. Handmade from a fur coat, these are guaranteed to keep your legs warm in the winter.

The top is also handmade, combining a white mesh shirt with a ripped black blazer. She styles it with black Puma platforms and futuristic sunglasses for the Khoki show.

]]> When it comes to fashion week, we’re quick to look to the four key fashion capitals for the latest trend forecasts, whether that be in the realm of beauty, or clothing. Yet from Dubai to Berlin, there are a series of fashion weeks around the world that have become trailblazers when it comes to burgeoning trends, and it’s Copenhagen that’s at the forefront of this shift. As a city where style is characterised by minimalism and sustainability, this fashion week has seen labels such as The Garment, Rotate, and Zalando’s Sustainability Award Finalist, MWorks, grace the runway.

When it came to the surrounding streets of the designated venues, a series of attendees and their personal glam proved equally compelling. From sleek buns to slim headbands, below, you’ll find a handful of our favourite street looks at this month’s Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Dressed from head to toe in Andri Unnarson, Benjamin’s stylish counterpart looked equally sophisticated in her sage green pants and square sunglasses. With two toned hair and chunky gold earrings, we love this seamless blend between subtlety and playfulness.

From the classic black headband to chunky pearl necklaces, crochet bags and sleek bob haircuts, fashion week called for the re-emergence of summer’s timeless favourites. There were middle partings, gel-coated side-sweeps, and loose, effortlessly natural waves – ideal for the casual elegance that is ever present in and amongst Copenhagen’s bustling fashion scene.

If there’s one accessory that was set to make an appearance this August, it was sunglasses. By drawing attention to the face, we couldn’t help but take note of the plethora of hairstyles at play, from 60s inspired fringes, to the trendy, spiky bun that our favourite supermodels have been sporting as of late.

Whilst both laid-back and sporty, this gorgeous pair rocked denim in all its glory, maintaining natural makeup looks and simplistic hair-dos. Whether a long plait or thin baby bangs, when it comes to beauty, a little goes a long way.

There were suits and there were loafers, but there were solid silver chains and mullets too! Short, classic manicures appeared an inevitable favourite, but after all, we wouldn’t expect anything less in classy Copenhagen.

Slick-back buns took centre-stage on the streets of fashion week this year, often paired with a neutral, nude lip and gold hoop earrings. Appearing effortlessly chic in her tailored suit and small framed sunglasses, Emilie Billington was the star of the show.

Paris Fashion Week began this week, and A-listers from Rihanna to Anya Taylor- Joy embraced dark and sultry looks on the front rows of Dior and Off White.

Voir has your rundown of the fiercest Paris Fashion Week looks so far.

Rihanna 

Rihanna has become the queen of maternity style in recent weeks. The singer took her pregnancy fashion to new heights on her way to Dior’s FW22 show in Paris, donning a sheer black gown that displayed her lovable bump. Keeping to an all-black theme, the star adorned leather boots and a leather coat with chunky silver jewellery as maroon lips added to the smouldering attire. The look marks the star’s most risque maternity wear to date.

Lauren Wasser

Model Lauren Wasser brought futuristic charm to the crowd of Off White’s Virgil Abloh tribute show. Covering her chest with nothing but an Off White puffer, the model dared all, paying homage to Abloh’s unafraid designs. Wasser paired the jacket with a bold blue skirt and chunky sunglasses in a matching hue.

Mai Lee

Mai Lee was a ray of sunshine on the front row of Koche’s FW22 show. The self-proclaimed fashion fanatic dressed head to toe in bright yellow with a Koche blazer dress and platform Versace heels.

Clara Berry

Adding some 1980s glamour to the streets of Paris, model Clara Berry graced the front row of Koche’s show in a geometric print shirt over a casual jogger/ jumper pairing in mint green. The look was comfortable but chic!

Zulay Pogba

Zulay injected a dose of danger to the front row of Off White’s show in a sultry all-black look. Her cut-out panel dress in a dark obsidian hue was matched with long leather boots featuring the brand’s witty ‘for walking’ phrase. The star attended the show with her husband Paul Pogba who wore an all-white fit’. The pair brought an elegant black and white appeal- perfect for attending a show by a label known for zebra print looks.

Anya Taylor-Joy

As one of the biggest faces of Dior, it comes as no surprise actress Anya Talor- Joy was a vision of opulence on the front row of the fashion house’s Paris show. Wearing a floral beaded dress, the star embraced her infamous 1960s aesthetic in a chunky black headband and pointed heels.

Leonie Hanne

Fashion week connoisseur Leonie Hanne stepped out on the streets of Paris in a racy crystal two-piece by GCDS. Covering for the chilly February breeze, the German Blogger wore a grey blazer and accessorised with a silver purse and heels (which she designed herself in collaboration with Italian luxury brand Liu Jo).

Taylor Hill

Former Victoria Secret Model Taylor Hill had a floral moment on the front row of Off White. In a cream blazer dress and 60s style white boots; the stunning brunette looked elegant and colourful.

Tamara Kalinic

Tamara Kalinic brought a highlighter green moment to Off White’s show. The daring look featured a neon cropped tee and trenchcoat paired with cargo pants and peep-toe heels. The star perfectly complemented the vivid runway looks.

Hanna Lhoumeau

Why carry one purse when you could carry two? Was the question asked by model Hanna on the streets of Paris this week. Carrying the inventive reversible Victoria/Tomas purse on her shoulder, the model paired a green cut-out tee with studded ripped jeans and a structured leather blazer for a stylish green and black ensemble.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrel and family were a vision of co-ordinated family-style on the front row of Off White. Singer Pharrell wore a large grey trench in harmony with his wife Helen Lasichanh who added to the peaceful tone of the look in a line art blazer.

Valentina Ferragni

For the Dior show, fashion expert Valentina Ferragni had a pocketed little black dress moment on the streets of Paris. The gown was pleated with adorable pockets.

Contrasting the dark gown was Ferragni’s miniature Dior purses in orange and pink which were tiny enough to be carried by the star’s fingers.

Alexandra Pereira

The show-stopping Rochas looks didn’t stop at Bruna. Looking as classic as the roman- style statue she posed next to, Alexandra Pereira wore a Rochas dress which imitated artwork. The high neck gown featured primary colours like orange and yellow in abstract patterns creating a psychedelic look from Rochas SS22 collection.

Jessica Wang

Shifting to a nighttime look, Wang’s second fashion week attire was fit for a ball. In a sequined Alexander Vauthier gown, Wang fit in perfectly amongst the expensive chandelier-ed setting.

The Vauthier dress featured padded shoulders, a triangular cut, and flared sleeves- another of Vauthier’s unique yet stunning designs.

Jessica Wang

Adding a splash of colour to Paris, Jessica Wang covered her checkerboard print midi dress with the ultimate yellow raincoat. The coat- designed by Maison Margiela- was waist-length in style and lined with a soft suede material.

The fashionista paired the look with an inventive twist on the black boot trend, as she donned a pair crafted by sheer material instead of traditional leather.

Yendry

Heading to Balmain’s show, artist Yendry added to the dark and daring looks of the night. Exposing her torso, the star paired sheer trousers with a cropped tee and leather trench to cultivate a classic look with a risque twist.

Aleali May

Dangerously fierce but with a splash of pink feminine flair- Aleali May struck the perfect balance between what makes a woman powerful with her Balmain show look. The star posed on a staircase wearing wet leather look trousers, a suede jacket and a triangular corset top contrasted by a bright pink Balmain purse.

Leone Hanne

Gucci is known for luxury, so it comes as no surprise that Lenonie Hanne was a vision of
opulence when dressed head to toe in the brand this Fashion Week. Pairing a two-toned
lace dress with fur arm cuffs and oversized Gucci shades, the fashion icon stunned on the
front rows.

At this point, Leonie is merely one- uping herself when it comes to iconic fashion week looks.
The blonde posed on her Parisian balcony in a fluorescent Georges Hobeika dress with puffy fur trim and metallic lace-up heels for a fun and futuristic look.

Cindy Bruna

Bruna brought boots like never before to the Rochas Paris show. Reaching the star’s upper thighs, the boots imitated flames rising from the ground. Ensuring the iconic shoe stood out, the star dressed in a ruched, lace-trimmed black dress by the brand.

Alexandra Guerain

Alexandra Guerain played with contrasting shades of brown to cultivate a satisfyingly coordinated street style look. The founder of ohakids wore a long tan blazer, taupe corset, and baggy Mugler jeans for a casual but stylish look.

Carla Ginola

Taking us back to our Y2K childhoods, Carla Ginola brought back the iconic jean/ dress combo which we haven’t seen since the days of Disney Channel. In a glittering pink Koche dress over loose fitted jeans and a miniature Barbie pink purse, the star dazzled in the outfit of our childhood fantasies.

Yara Shahidi

Black-ish star Yara Shahidi posed to her Instagram followers in a military beige look during Paris Fashion Week. Wearing a Dior structured cape, pleated mini skirts, and tie-up boots, Yara took smart casual to another level.

Hearte Evangelista

Storming the streets of Paris, Filipino actress Hearte Evangelista wore the little black dress of our dreams. The SS22 Balmain tweed dress was glittering and embellished with gold buttons, giving the star an air of Parisian elegance.

Sticking to the all-black memo of many Paris Fashion Week styles, Evangelista is accessorised with platform lace-up boots and a miniature purse in the sultry shade.

Lucy Ramos

Tweed was the material on actress Lucy Ramos’ mind at the FW22 Balmain show. Dressed head to toe in the brand, the star moved away from the black dress trend that most stars chose to adorn, instead opting for a ripped white suit with an oversized Balmain bag.

Looking to the runways of 1990s Thierry Mugler for inspiration, Brazilian actress Lancellotti took Paris fashion week’s Little Black Dress trend to futuristic heights. Posing behind a green setting, the star wore a draped- effect, high neck dress by Balmain with a white clutch purse.

Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch is slowly emerging as our fashion week hero. In a sequined off the shoulder gown, the star’s Old Hollywood look perfectly complemented her sleeked back hair and nude make-up.

Caroline Ebo

Pastel hues took centre stage in Caroline Ebo’s Paris look. Donning pastel purple jeans and a ruched duo-toned Hosjberg shirt, the influencer graced the back of a limo in zestful style.

Serena Williams

It isn’t just on the tennis court that Serena Williams is serving. Williams contrasted the all-black looks in Balmain’s crowd with a crushed velvet green gown. The dress was embellished with golden beads and the look was finished with a cropped blazer in a matching hue.

Fashion writing comes in all shapes and sizes, but anyone who opens a trend analysis with

“Move over Pretty, there’s a new girl in town and she’s riding the crest of cool…..”

has in my eyes, already entered the vaults of fashion eloquence.

Step forward Voir’s very own Sarah Holden, gifted in the art of trend journalism, and poised, ready to deliver seasonal trend reports to the eager fashion devotee. Autumn/Winter 2013 was a memorable season, and rather than dissect Ms Holden’s offering, here is the entire article uncut for you to savour.

Hip&Runway

Move over Pretty, there’s a new girl in town and she’s riding the crest of cool….

There’s been a definite shift in the fashion mainstream this season whereby functional became cool again, street became catwalk and an unprecious approach to dressing up took pole position. Cool is the new chic, grunge is the new polished and sultry femininity took a master class from the boys.

His and hers

Unisex cuts both ways this season. Whereby his was only formerly hers, oversized unisex sweatshirts and bomber jackets seen at Kenzo, Givenchy and Saint Laurent marked a style revolution for both men and women. Not just confined to street couture the trend worked it’s way through the androgynous tailoring that stormed the same catwalks where even the most masculine of cuts boasted a feminine allure from the skinny zipped leathers at Saint Laurent, the outsized frock coats and tux jackets at Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney and the sporty-luxe tailoring at Elizabeth and James.

Tartan Army

Tartan, plaid and fantasy checks marked a mood shift from minimal to maximal as fashion’s new tartan armies took charge of the catwalks this season.

The traditional McQueen tartan was reworked with a contemporary spin whilst Stella McCartney and Céline cut an oversized silhouette from colourful combinations of Tartania. More than a fleeting trend, check-mania was also a firm favourite on the catwalks for spring and summer 2014 cast in zesty palettes on the catwalks of Céline and Carven and contrasted with painterly prints, bold graphics and feminine florals.

All Weather Leather

‘Leather forever’ is the style mantra of the fash pack each and every season and autumn winter’s offerings came in their edgy droves- zip embellished mini skirts from Saint Laurent, stretch-leather skinnies from Les Chiffoniers and those to-die-for suede and leather trousers, sheepskin coats and biker jackets from Isabel Marant and Balenciaga, worn with the lightest of chiffon layers, sultry lace and heavily embellished counterparts for evening.

Fast-forward to spring and summer and all weather leather was hitting fashion’s highest notes thanks to modern advancements in leatherworks – think pastel shades and feather-light options guaranteed to add a grunge-luxe edge to even the most polished of looks.

Great Lengths

Designers went to extreme proportions this season to deliver those great(er) lengths, mini and maxi proportions. Supersized knits versus super skinny trousers, hemlines hit the calf, jeans were given the crop and even accessories came under and oversized.

As heels came down, tops went up to reveal a fashion’s newest erogenous zone – the midriff, another style keeper to ‘bare’ in mind for SS14 and the biggest trend in arm candy came from the ‘mini’ bags that emulated their supersized predecessors seen at Givenchy, Saint Laurent and Balenciaga to take from day to night • Sarah Holden
