]]> When asked to imagine pearls, the mind often thinks of simple studs or the classic strand necklaces worn to the ballet or opera. But designers have been rethinking how we can wear pearls in the modern world — leading to a renaissance of the cultured gem. 

For instance, Prabal Gurung notably celebrated the gem last season with an avant-garde twist by sculpturing artistically beautiful ear climbers, which he contrasted with sharply lapelled collars and piercing plaids. 

In contrast, Simone Rocha approached pearlescence with nearly all-encompassing looks that flowed in a way that was reminiscent of a Botticelli painting. Generously rich baroque, pearl-style, hard side bags were matched with flowing off-white dresses, and heightened with pearl-embellished platform sandals. Pearls have practically become the signature for the designer, who also used them in her collaboration with H&M earlier this year. 

Pearls have been mixed with edginess, with Julien Dossena for Paco Rabanne who are famous for their amazing mesh and metal garments, and accessories, adding pearls to chain drenched garments, and pairing them with glimmering and velvety skirts. 

Pearls aren’t just acting as jewellery – they also have been seen gleaming up shoes and accessories. From clippable barrettes that can glam up even the most casual of outfits, to pearl-covered shoes and even masks.

A red carpet-design royalty, Christian Siriano, has beautifully laid out pearls on customised face masks that work to fight the pandemic through donating all proceeds to charity.

The high street is also incorporating all of this pearlescent loveliness into their current offerings, with pearls featured on everything from pearl-dotted jumpers to mini bags that look as great with jeans as they do with a bias cut satin cocktail dress.

Grace Jones, the iconic musician of the 70s and 80s, was famous beyond being an amazing musician — she was also famous for her incredible fashion sense. She originally started as a model for Parisian fashion houses, including Yves Saint Laurent, and went on to appear on the cover of numerous magazines, including Andy Warhol’s Interview.

Alexander McQueen AW20

Sarah Burton celebrated beautiful intensity at McQueen, by adding operatic shoulders to velvet and silk jackets in dramatic shades of red and black. The shoulders are paired with slick ultra-long line boots that feel very Grace Jones all the way to the ground.

Balenciaga FW20

Demna Gvasalia added a twist to the dramatic shoulder trend at Balenciaga, throwing in green pleats and polka dots to peaked shoulders – all more than enough to ensure that you could stand out in any venue.

Givenchy SS21

This season Matthew H. Williams beautifully matched the intensity of squared up shoulders at Givenchy, with sheer and bejewelled textures to key the eye interested.

Carolina Herrera Resort II 21

Carolina Herrera turned up the volume of not just the shoulder but of the fabric as well, on this gloriously liquefied gown that projects shimmering perfection.

Maximalist, eccentric styles not only have seen a resurgence on recent catwalks, such as the metallic pink Valentino boots to Virgil Abloh’s wearable cityscapes for Louis Vuitton, and current designers are infusing hope into their clothing through maximalist touches and escapist attitudes.

People haven’t seen us in a year… or at least not from our torso downwards from our endless Zoom meetings. And boy, have we all forgotten our legs existed too? Thankfully, we’re slowly easing our way into incorporating every body part into our outfits, and not just what would only be seen on camera. Cue the rise of patterned pants and platform heels (which keep climbing higher). ‘It’ girls are the living proof that maximalist supremacy is reigning over 2021, just think of Dua Lipa’s skyscraper leather knee boots, Prada’s patterned bodysuits and maximalist manicures; but also Bella Hadid’s colorful crochet headwear staples, bright lip colours, tie-dye patchwork pants and more over the top, maximalist clothing. Other fashion icons Rihanna, Hailey Bieber and Irina Shayk have all jumped on the bandwagon of maximalist prints, which are all responsible for our over-flowing online shopping carts.

Several brands have seen an unexpected rise in popularity thanks to the bold pattern trend, in particular brands that are 70’s inspired with a retro vibe, such as Paloma Wool and Gimaguas. Emma Mulholland’s label Holiday is another maximalist veteran: you’ve probably seen their Kokomo bottoms more than once on your feed, and there’s nothing we’ve wanted more. Disco waves are also extremely popular, hence these Gimaguas pants are perpetually sold out.

It seems that nowdays the bigger, the brighter, the better! This maximalist approach is thought to have risen from the desire of escaping lockdown. After all, its loud style, often excessive, saturated appeal in encouraging to be bold, not just in fashion, but as a lifestyle.

Pre-pandemic less was certainly more. Simple blue jeans and sartorial elegance were celebrated as the pinnacles of style continuum. Statement pieces were only rarely worn for special occasions, and clean, classy stand-out brands such as Jacquemus and The Row were the most trending. Featuring soft neutral palettes, they are the opposite of the bold pop of colours we’re seeing everywhere, especially the colour green. It seems strange how pre-pandemic the colour was avoided from everyone’s palette, and now everyone is obsessed with it! Designers persisted during the pandemic to keep the fashion scene growing and evolving; it was within the melancholic darkness of the pandemic that maximalist rose from the ashes.

We think we’ve all been pining for a change this last year. Whether or not you have googled how to cut your own fringe, pink highlights or ‘tiny tattoos’ there’s a chance you’ve toyed with the idea of a new piercing. Slightly less permanent than the latter, it’s a good option to revamp your look as we crawl out of the depths of the pandemic.

The impulsiveness of wandering into a piercing studio and getting whatever takes your fancy has been stripped away from us. Now, we are left with booking months ahead with a professional solo appointment, which, when you think about it, is no bad thing. This will give you weeks to think about what you want and will eliminate ‘piercing regret’ something some of us know all too well.

So, we’ve scoured the Internet and top piercing artists to see what they predict to be the next best and big thing out there. The general consensus is to opt for lobe piercings and not cartilage, due to mandatory mask-wearing that will go on until the end of the year. Lobe piercings are just easier to avoid when taking off your mask and heal a lot faster.

Constellation Piercings

These are gorgeous. Brian Keith Thompson, piercer and owner of LA’s Body Electric says these clusters of piercings will give you ‘instant gratification’ as you can get all of them at once. When it comes to the final look – placement and jewelry choice are important. Therefore, it’s ideal if you accidentally get a questionably placed piercing – just use a constellation to cover it up. 

Daith Jewelry

Daith Jewelry is also set to blow up this summer. The Daith piercing goes through the innermost fold of your ear, near the centre.

Huggie Hoops

Might sound strange, but the word ‘huggie’ just references tight-fitting, snug, or mini hoops for your ears. They look so pretty when stacked and are versatile – great to show off when throwing your hair up in the sticky summer weather.

Ear Asymmetry

Anyone with an abundance of mismatched earrings, this one is for you. Veer away from the traditional aesthetic and move to the mismatched side of life as it can give two different looks and make each side of your head unique. FKA Twigs and Jennifer Lawrence are big fans.

]]> Asymmetrical, avant-garde knitwear looks that are bondage-inspired, futuristic and comfortable to wear at the same time have hit all major catwalks this year, and every designer seems to have jumped on the bandwagon. From Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Nensi Dojaka, Jacquemus to Isabel Marant and high-fashion brands such as Bottega Veneta, every designer is coming out with knitwear creations, but we think that Andrea Adamo is the genius that reinvented knitwear.

As he recalls in an interview with Vogue Italia, his whole principle in fashion is to feel naked even when wearing clothes. Before launching his namesake brand, he worked for Elisabetta Franchi, Roberto Cavalli, and even in the Dolce & Gabbana atelier as a head designer for celebrities.

In almost no time he consolidated his professional experiences and went from having no formal education at a prestigious university, to designing Madonna’s 2017 birthday dress at Dolce & Gabbana. Celebrities seem to have a sweet spot for him, and arguably he built his hype by working with Bella Hadid, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Nicole Kidman, Zendaya, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Adele and JLo. And he didn’t even study fashion, but pursued graphics to later discover it wasn’t his path. He Despite his troubled beginnings, he was always certain that he was going to make it, and that is why he even rejected job offers from prestigious brands that recognized his talent whilst studying at university because he felt like he couldn’t fully dedicate himself. And now everyone is talking about him, after one year of establishing his own brand. His first two collections were both extremely successful, and the sales keep going up.

His talent is completely incomparable to any other designer, so much that he often found himself jobless for his unique style. Employers would tell him that his talent was obvious, but not the time to exhibit collections like these as they’d have no customers. But he invested all on himself, his brand and his ambitions, and the brand is truly encapsulating what is missing in the fashion scene. His clothes are the epitome of sophistication, with a rebellious influence that screams avant-garde but feels very wearable too. His elastic fabrics beautifully fuse together skin and the dress, in a way that complements and enhances the beauty of the body who’s wearing his creations.

His brand exploded when selling at Net-a-porter, Luisaviaroma and Harvey Nichols. But it was truly after celebrities started posting him on Instagram that his career skyrocketed. Even Kylie’s in love with his designs, and the top she wore on IG became the best-seller and sold out immediately.

He’s also incredibly keen on breaking the lines between men’s clothing and women’s clothing. He intertwines the two beautifully, and he quickly became the staple of genderless fashion.

]]> There’s nothing new nor shocking about the comeback of past trends, we’re all accustomed to the idea of fashion working in a repetitive cycle, sometimes even more repetitive than we’d like.

We’ve seen trends of the past everywhere this year. Gucci and Fendi are a few of the labels pioneering this movement with the launch of collections inspired by the 70s, proving that old really is the new new. However, as much as we love to reminisce there are few trends that some of us did not expect to return… and statement tights certainly fit in that category.

So let’s talk about them, what exactly are they and why are they coming back?

Statement tights

Hosiery garments have evolved through the years following major social and cultural changes. One of the biggest changes was the inclusion of these garments into the female wardrobe, shocking right? Tights, legwear, and anything you can basically consider as hosiery were initially created catered for the male gender. Things have clearly evolved since then, with tights being considered as a revolutionary style statement piece representative of femininity (but not only). With the creation of functional garments to support the female body and its comfort, or simply aesthetical ones to accessorise and complete any look.

Who is Lauren Perrin?

Lauren Perrin is the French designer reinventing statement tights and demonstrating their appeal in everyday fashion. The Biarritz-born, and now London-based, designer debuted her first collection of tights and gloves back at the begging of 2020, following a realisation of their gap in the market. She experimented with different sectors of the industry, begging with a three-year-long menswear study path in Paris, and continuing with working for publications like Dazed and Another Man, which according to the designer were what inspired her in her

creation. As she observed her surroundings, understanding, and analysing what editors wore and kept in their “kit” to then combine that with the necessities of her own style and wardrobe.

Her creations which as a small-scale project targeted at a limited circle of stylists expanded to international recognition and inclusion by international publications, following the likes of supermodels like Bella Hadid and other influential personalities.

Why we support her, and why you should too

We love independent brands and everything about Lauren Perrin’s reflects this, especially her will to remain as independent as possible no matter the increasing popularity of the brand. As she has explained in a recent interview with Another Man magazine, she aims to continue working in the UK and prioritising the quality and responsibility of her productions. Even if at times it gets undoubtedly challengings as everything comes from her independent work in a London Studio.

Besides being environmentally responsible and ethically aware, the recognisable style presented by Lauren Perrin is what keeps us in awe of her work. The 70s prints and patterns incorporated in co-ord sets through matching tights and gloves create an unusual yet eccentric style that can upgrade any look. It’s a brand to consider to make a statement out of any look.

So here are our favourite celebrity nail artists to give you all the mani inspo that you need to capture this season’s optimistic mood. From Cardi B’s nail tech to the maestro behind Duo Lipa’s Brit award nails, there’ll be something to reign you into the impending hot girl summer.

Chaun Legend

The man, the myth, Chaun legend. We don’t think we’ve seen such intricate designs on any nails ever – some take up to 8 hours to complete and a house call will cost $500 and counting. Amazingly, his career took off from a single Insta “like” by Kylie Jenner and now he counts her as one of his favs in his roster of celeb clients. 

Jenny Longworth 

Jenny’s nails will make you pack a bag and go somewhere (anywhere). They are summery, girly and a UK celebrity favourite. 

Lisa Kon

Her insta tagline is ‘probably the best nails in California’ and we can see no word of a lie. Kendal Jenner frequently shows off her abstract nail art designs, which are carefully curated by Lisa. She even started her own nail line – LK Gel Polish – which surmounted in an unattainable amount of clients all around America. If you are UK-based, you probably aren’t going to fly across the pond for a mani, but take inspiration from the beauty that is her Instagram page. 

Michelle Humprey

Dua Lipa’s go-to nail artist always brings her A-game. From glitter-loaded tips to Lipa’s starry night manicure at the Brit’s, creativity is certainly her trademark. Her fun designs are her original spin on the latest products and trends which makes her Instagram a rabbit hole for nail lovers.

Jenny Bui

There’s a reason that Cardi B’s nail tech, Jenny Bui, is award-winning. Her eye-popping colours and complex patterns strewn in Swarovski crystals have made Cardi almost synonymous with lavish fingernails. Rightly hailed as ‘The Queen of Bling’ a peek at her insta won’t leave you head-scratching as to why. Although we can’t all afford to have crystals worth hundreds of pounds scattered across nails (sadly) we can draw some pretty great design ideas.

Wear it with your favourite pair of sandals, trainers, or heels – or cowboy boots, if you’re Kendall Jenner – and live your best life.

Tiered Dress

Relaxed and flowy but still carrying an element of drama through its voluminous skirts, a tiered dress is the answer to post-lockdown blues. A popular trend for the tiered dress currently making the rounds is gingham, which is perfect for those summer days lounging in the park with a picnic (bonus points if your dress matches the pattern on your picnic blanket). The flexibility of its hemline also means that a tiered dress can work for any occasion – formal or casual.

Bardot Dress

Not afraid to show a little skin? A Bardot dress (i.e. an off-the-shoulder, open-neck dress) could be just what you’re looking for as we settle in to summer. Pick one up in a floral pattern or jazz it up with some abstract swirls and shapes for your new iconic go-to look this season – it won’t be going out of style anytime soon!

Shirt Dress

A shirt dress is unmatched when it comes to casual chic. Sported in a light cotton or silky fabric, the shirt dress is perfect for layering up on the colder days of spring with a jacket or sweater vest, but is also just as effective in the summer when stripped back and paired with some sandals. Classy without being overly extravagant (or looking like you’re trying too hard), the shirt dress is sure to be a popular look in the warmer months of 2021.

Slip Dress

While typically characterised as undergarments or sleepwear, the slip dress has seen a revival in recent years as outerwear for the warmer seasons. The design isn’t limited to your standard black, white, red, or pink either, as brands today have modernised the slip dress so that it’s available in a variety of colours and patterns. Slinky and sexy, the slip dress is the optimal choice for a night out in a pub garden or at your favourite restaurant (with outdoor seating, of course).

The home of the glamorous whimsical silhouette gloves, T LABEL’s first luxury apparel collection The Lunar Waltz revisits their niche design, this time with jacquard fabrics, disco tiles, and embellished mesh, all of which reframes the brands glamorous, romantic aesthetic into a more futuristic swinging ‘60s vibe.

The iconic items from T LABEL’s range being the Florence bralette and Ray gloves means that it’s only natural that the pieces from The Lunar Waltz Collection are so intricately handmade and detailed.

From mesh structured corset peplum tops with black detailing to disco tile covered dramatic peplum tops with perfectly placed slits, The Lunar Waltz is the perfect blend of a nostalgic ‘60s feeling and an outer space aesthetic.

Appropriately named, The Lunar Waltz is nostalgic in its celestial dream-like qualities, with reflective surfaces and artfully sculpted skirts adorned with abstract paintings. Founder of T Label Taylor-Bea ‘daydreamed of escapism, toes in the sand of California beaches and the glamour of Hollywood in a winter’, the idea of which is tangible in the latest collection which carries a sense of ‘hiraeth’ with it.

The collection experiments with warm, romantic nude tones blended with the primary colours displayed in the likes of Piet Mondrian’s works. These palettes work well with the spring/summer aura which the collection carries in its hints of swimwear.

The sense of ‘hiraeth’ (Welsh word for the yearning of a place that never was – a deep, irrational bond felt with a time, era, place, or person) found in The Lunar Waltz perfectly encapsulates the looks we crave to see after over a year of restrictions. The collection offers a sense of escapism, a much-shared desire amongst us all. This was exactly the focus for T LABEL, as they disclosed; “T LABEL has always been about fantasising. These elements combined form The Lunar Waltz, from lyrics by Arctic Monkeys, focusing on the future, admiration of space-age design and the desire of trips to California. These were all my escapisms throughout the beginning of 2021”.

T LABEL describes The Lunar Waltz as a part of a sequel of collections, which is a part of designer Taylor’s desire to push for slow fashion, reminding audiences and the industry that smaller designers have a lot to tackle.


The Lunar Waltz experiments with the idea of slow fashion through the eye of a film director, hence the Hollywood, nostalgic glamorous feel to the designing and styling of T LABEL’s first collection. Portraying the collection in this manner allows audiences time to absorb the details of the collection fully, such as the satin detailing on the structured organza dress, or the matching exaggerated disco tiled gloves and metallic open back swimsuit pieces.

This collection bridges the gap between the longing for a post-pandemic world and the comfort of dreaming for one whilst still indoors, and for T LABEL, it’s filled with the aesthetics of ‘60s-meets-outer-space Hollywood glamour.

Designer Taylor wishes to gradually expand on this collection, stating; “There were things I wanted to do within this collection that I couldn’t do due to time, budget, and running a global business from home. I wasn’t willing to let go of my ideas and miss out on developing the collection further”. All this is great news for us, as it means the excitement of The Lunar Waltz will only be expanded upon in time.
