You might remember that we recently talked about the artistic Virgil Abloh and IKEA collection but he has also collaborated with Jimmy Choo and Nike to name a few. His latest creation is a pairing with the historic British retailer, Browns.

The exclusive capsule collection offers 21 pieces for both men and women, aiming to revisit some of Abloh’s greatest hits by reinvention of new colour ways and silhouettes. Abloh says: “the capsule has the essence of Off-White embedded in it. A mix of street and chic sensibilities wrapped up into one expression.”

Voir’s top picks from the collection include a pyjama-style co-ord featuring a delicate blue floral pattern, as well as the brand’s most famous flap bag that has been reworked in military green shades.

Prices start from £155 and the full collection can be shopped in store and online with worldwide delivery.

CEO Marco Bizzarri made the announcement that from Spring/Sumer 2018 the brand will be fur-free, with adjustments being made to the fur items within the collection that was revealed in September. The brand currently sells a wide range of fur items, including a mink coat that is listed on its website for £25,920, however Gucci has pledged that any fur items from collections on sale will be auctioned off with profits going towards animal rights organisations.

This new approach was a decision made between Bizzarri and creative director Alessandro Michele, who discussed the technological advancements that take the need to use animal-fur away. “The alternatives are luxurious. There is just no need,” says Bizzarri, who hopes that other luxury brands will follow suit. Recognising Gucci’s status as a well-known brand, Marco Bizzarri chose to also seek advice from some of the youngest people employed at Gucci, in order to gain a new perspective.

Gucci’s decision has been described as a game-changer, as the brand goes on to join 40 organisations that make up the Fur Free Alliance. “Being socially responsible is one of Gucci’s core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animals.” Says Bizzarri, whose bold move, could be seen as showing the fashion world, that the future is fur-free.

Sparkle & Shine

It seems that glitter is a look for any season as it’s staying put for spring/summer next year. Glitter lids dominated the Topshop show, created by make-up artist Lynsey Alexander, the party scene of Soho inspired the electrified look. Some statement glitter lashes were hard to miss at Ryan Lo created by Isamaya Ffrench. Other looks included glistening gems at Jeremy Scott and Dries Van Noten.

Graphic Eyeliner

The eyeliner looks this year were made for the bold and the daring of us. Thick looks were sported at House of Holland, Fendi, Matty Bovan and Versus Versace created by Charlotte Tilbury, whose inspiration was the ever iconic Amy Winehouse for her thick, punky eyeliner style. More subtle looks were seen at Rochas and Eudon Choi created by Adam De Cruz.

Subtle Definition

Less is more is becoming more and more desirable at fashion weeks, with contour it seems, a dying trend! A dewy look at Bottega Veneta, Emilia Wickstead, Phillip Lim, Victoria Beckham and Issey Miyake, whose look was created by Alex Box. Isabel Marant went for a more softer, brushed brow approach. Pat McGrath created the look for Valentino by applying blush to the edge of the lids and bringing it down to the top of the cheeks for a really fresh and playful look.

Short Liberation

The androgynous short look was in abundance at many shows this year, making a real statement with Fendi’s clip in dyed fringes that just further emphasised the edgy look. Gigi Hadid makes another appearance here with her pixie cut for Moschino. Thom Browne gave us a short slick back with a difference, created by hair stylist Eugene Souleiman. A choppy look at Giorgio Armani created a contemporary 60’s look.

Held Into place

Hair accessories are going to be a big part of S/S ’18, with simple hairstyles easily jazzed up with a good hair piece. Headbands and scarves were seen at Anya Hindmarsh, Miu Miu, Molly Goddard and Temperely. Dolce & Gabbana accessorised hair with large clip in flowers that just scream spring/summer vibes. Hair clips made an appearance like never before with Simone Rocha and Versace beautifully demonstrating the subtle accessory. Guido Palau who created Versace’s look said that the garments were so detailed that they didn’t want to take away from that.

The “Made in Britain” stamp was firmly pressed onto siblings George and Mike Heatons’ SS18 collection in New York yesterday for their brand Represent. Naming their collection, “Wide Awake”, they were inspired by British punk subculture entwined with a streetwear influence. It’s not the first time the siblings have been inspired by British heritage, they have used graphics of British victories within their collections before but they brought a really refreshing twist this year. The collection featured printed silk shirts, tracksuits and parkas that still displayed a heavy graphic influence. An athletic feel also channelled through the collection with baggy shorts, layered tops and drawstring detailing.

Big points for designer of Luar, Raul Lopez for pushing out the boundaries this year. His collection featured deconstructed pinstripe suits that were put back together in a hardly recognisable manner. Furthermore, animal hides were spread across the torsos of models and belted to represent something somewhat wearable, and basically everything ‘corporate’ rethought and remade. He was inspired by everything going on in the world today and we feel as though his message has been delivered loud and clear. Although this collection doesn’t exactly come across as wearable, it’s the concept and message that have been the most important factors here.

The 80’s are back. Has it ever really left though? Raun Larose has shown us an 80’s-inspired collection with an avant-garde twist. Wide-legged high-waisted trousers were coupled with printed shirts with layered and ruched sleeves and appeared to have a mind of their own. A metallic lustre was present on some of his pieces, bringing a kind of futuristic yet nostalgic feel. Larose has really thought about classic silhouettes and turned them on their head, every piece was a refreshingly different surprise.

‘Engineered for Motion’ is the real meaning behind the brand EFM whose athletic look embodies fashion, function and simplicity in one. Donrad Duncan has showed that traditional tailoring and modern smart materials can work hand in hand, creating laid back bombers, sporty suits and contrast graphic kits. A recurring metallic colour complimented the looks and really gave a sense of a new wave of fashionable sportswear where technical fabrics are paving the way.

Kenneth Ning’s use of deconstructed tailoring and bolted boots really give a sense of tension within his SS18 collection, which is exactly the feeling he wanted to achieve as the concept was based on hackers against the government. His models walked the catwalk in oversized khaki jackets, pieces of shirting fabric hanging onto an edge by one component, and official patches all gave the collection a really fresh and thought-provoking feel. His collection is almost certainly an acquired taste, but is most certainly cleverly thought out and executed.

A collection all about identity and belonging, Sanchez-Kane is a Mexican clothing brand driven by the social, political and ethical chaos in America right now. His SS18 collection is expressive, aggressive and suggestive and leaves a lot for us to discover and ponder on , but Sanchez-Kane the designer has left us plenty of breadcrumbs to follow. He is very much inspired by using art as a form of communication for nationalism, he embraces everything that is seen as imperfection and faults, and just wants peace and equality within the world. His collection truly speaks emotion, we thank you for such artistic skill!

Performance was the key to Perry Ellis’ SS18 collection, with designer Michael Maccari marrying function and aesthetic together to create a collection that mixed causal with tailored, and it worked so well. Four way stretch and wicking properties played the technical role whilst the fashion took on the personality with tweeds, synthetics, tartans and mesh providing texture. Colour tones were played around with to create looks that had depth but ones that still channelled causal with a more fashion-forward vision.

Originally from China, Feng Chen Wang has concentrated her collection close to home, looking at China’s manufacturing industry through the eyes of craftsmanship rather than that of mass production. She took the ubiquitous ‘Made In China’ label and made it the focal point instead of hiding it away, something we are not so used to seeing. It was a sportswear-meets-avant garde affair, with rushing details that added unfamiliar dimensions to parkas. Trousers with added drawstring details and aprons and gloves further emphasise the craftsmanship concept of her collection.

Raf Simons took over Chinatown yesterday, creating a dark cinematic atmosphere on the catwalk, surrounding the audience with street sights and smells. The 1980’s film ‘Blade Runner’ was a big inspiration behind Simons’ collection, where cultures collide in an east-meets-west ensemble of reversed trench coats, rain boots, umbrellas that glowed in the dark and balaclavas. The latter was layered to create an exaggerated bulky look, giving the models a very animated appearance. Simons is said to have returned to his beginning days of designing where music, film and culture were major influences. If visuals are anything to go by this collection is a treat, and we have a feeling he will be carrying on this theme into the future.

For his second show at New York Mens Fashion Week, Christopher Bevans, the designer at Dyne has injected this collection with accents of colour along neutrals. He has managed to create a range of garments that help the everyday man (who may not necessarily play sports all the time) go through life with performance and style in mind. Design details helped to lift the garments with components such as inverted zippers adding a real sporty feel. The collection was further authenticated with coloured tape on the models’ bodies bearing the resemblance of muscle tape used for sports injuries.

Some shows so far seem to be making reference to the USA itself, some looking back at history and some reflecting on the political storm within the continent. Horan Li showed us “America through foreigners eyes”, with his collection under his brand Private Policy. The collection has a real western vibe that played around with heritage, featuring boxy jackets, western prints and heavy belts that nodded to past, yet brought a sexual element with the use of harnesses and garters. A real play on American society.

All things Nigerian were the influence behind 19 year old designer, Taofeek Abijako’s collection for his brand, Head of State. Inspired by issues such as colonialism and its affect on youth culture, Abijako also introduced his own experiences, being inspired by West African photographers and music artists. His collection uses bold colour palettes of reds, blues, creams and mustards that lift the collection along with subtle graphics inspired by song lyrics.

David Hockney was the muse for Maiden Noir’s Spring/Summer 18 collection. Inspiration was taken from a series of paintings made by Hockney during visits he made to California during the Vietnam War Protest movement towards the end of the 1960’s. The casual collection teams bold stripes with vibrant block colours contrasting with camouflage, creating a depth of texture that reflects the visuals of Hockney.

Facetasm was amongst the first group of designers to kick off Paris Fashion Week. They played around with layers and classic styles that took on a contemporary look with the use of bright colours that popped against the darker shades.

Issey Miyake Men’s clean aesthetic was lifted by the garments being exaggerated by shape and texture. The garments were bunched and tied together to create fluidity with the fabrics yet still showed shape to the models figures creating a clean and modern look.

Balenciaga’s S/S18 collection certainly turned heads and split some opinions with it’s third menswear collection designed by Demna Gvasalia. The show was set in the grounds of the Bois de Boulogne park which created a forest like environment with chairs stretching down the long catwalk. The choice of models certainly got people talking, the inspiration for the shoot was based on dads on their day off and to further portray this concept, they had actual families walking in the show. Some of the models had their kids walking along side them also dressed in Balenciaga garments with slogans that emphasised hope, which beautifully represent the younger generations.

Lemaire showed us how to work a colour palette and wear it well. Bright colours were balanced out with softer darker tones. Their garments were elegant with a causal feel. Mixing matte with lustre fabrics to add some real luxurious personality.

A bold contemporary art inspired collection was brought to the catwalk by Walter Van Bierendonck. Colourful Picasso style artwork popped against dark colours and garments were oversized and gave us a futuristic glance into a cartoon world of optical illusions where art meets fashion.
