Photo London 2022 (Thu 12th-15th May 2022, Somerset House)

Somerset House is welcoming back the seventh edition of their Photo London fair. Hosting more than 100 exhibitors and showcasing some of the best talents in the photography industry. Visitors will have the opportunity to collect and discover some of the most prolific photographic work that the world has to offer. Highlights of the fair include Hannah Hughes (Robert Morat, Berlin) and Edward Burtynsky (Flowers Gallery, London) as well as a special focus on galleries from China.

Weird Sensations feel good: The world of ASMR (Fri 13th May – 16th Oct 2022, The Design Museum)

ASMR has taken the internet by storm and is everywhere these days! Millions of people have been introduced to the marvellous concept of gaining pleasure through a natural Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, often seen in the form of tingling and calmness spurred on by sound and touch.

Picasso Ingres: Face to Face (3rd June- 9th Oct 2022, National Gallery)

For the die-hard art fans out there, we have found something that is a first in the world of art! ‘Madame Moitessier’ by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, created in 1895 was famously the inspiration behind Pablo Picasso’s ‘Woman with a Book’ painting. And, for the first time, these two works of art will be shown side by side at the National Gallery this year. You need to see this!

Taste of London (Wed 15th – Sun 19th June 2022, Regents Park)

If food is something that is more up your street, don’t worry, we have you covered. Regents Park will be taken over this summer for two weeks to bring you the best food the business has to offer. What can you expect? Cooking classes, trying new dishes from around the world, and some much-needed dancing in Tastes’ very own pop-up club. And, if that is not enough, why not take some local produce home for the whole family to share?

Gin & Rum Festival (8th -9th July 2022, St Mary’s Church)

We all need a good drink and a good boogie after the last two years, and we have found the perfect place to let our hair down and let the good times roll. BST British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park (24th June – 10th July 2022, Hyde Park)

This Multi-day festival will get your blood pumping with its incredible lineup; there is something for everybody! From iconic Rock and Roll band The Rolling Stones to Elton John, as well as Nile Rodgers and Adele. This is the hottest event to go to this summer to witness a piece of history. The London Cheese Crawl (Sun 15th May- 25th Dec 2022)

For the cheese fanatics among you, this cheese crawl will definitely deliver. The crawl starts in Mayfair, where you will be able to taste some of the most refined cheeses London has to offer. Yam carnival (27th August 2022, Clapham Common, London)

Field day Festival (20th August 2022, Victoria Park)

This is one not to miss! The one-day festival will be taking place at Brockwell Park to celebrate the very best in Reggae, Dancehall and Afrobeats. Both Beauty advisors were flown out to Huda’s headquarters in Dubai to work with the founder Huda Kattan to develop the liquid matt product. Shades were picked not just on their personal preferences, but also their insider knowledge from working behind the counter and their ability to tell what the consumer wants. Kattan explained: ‘Our BA’s (beauty advisors) are there and they are hustling and working so hard to make all of your dreams come true. It was really special for us to bring them home to Dubai, and to let them get their hands dirty and be involved in the PD (product design) process.’

Queen of Sheba created by Harrods beauty advisor Bilkis, is a cool pink tone. In a recent Instagram, Huda Kattan proudly explains the packaging, which is a line drawing of the iconic storefront with the lipstick displayed through the middle. This was particularly special for Kattan, as Harrods was the first retailer to welcome Huda Beauty to the UK.  

Over on their Instagram, Sana talks about her ‘perfect red’ shade which took 2 years to create, dubbed Girl on Fire. ‘Beauty is all about exploring you, I feel like this is where beauty truly lies’ she explained, ‘this shade represents light and radiance, which is what my name means.’

Both colours are hailed as ‘fit for royalty’ and when asked about what makes these lipsticks so special Kattan elucidates ‘that they came straight from the heart of Sana and Bilkis. Everything we create is from the heart, and it was awesome to see the same philosophy instilled in these beautiful women. They were made by powerful women to be worn by powerful beauty-lovers!’

In honour of the singer/creative director’s latest collaboration with ASAI, we’ve decide to come back on Fenty’s success and how the fashion world has approached the next steps in Rihanna’s empire construction.

After launching Savage Fenty, a lingerie brand that may or may not have taken over the fashion world by showcasing women of all ages, colours and sizes, Rihanna decided it was time she tried her hand at designing clothes. Back in May 2019, the singer announced that her brand would exist under the umbrella of LVMH, the conglomerate that owns Louis Vuitton and some of the biggest names in fashion. At the time, Fenty declared the brand would be all about “both the spirit of Rihanna and a new approach to modern luxury: agile and dynamic; elevated yet egalitarian; bold, free, fearless”.

Fast forward a couple months – and here we are, just around the time of the Fenty x ASAI collaboration, which dropped on December 11th, 2019, exclusively at Selfridges. The collaboration is a more London-inspired take on the collection “City Bloom”, where Fenty commercialised ready-to-wear items, that have now been customised by the collaborating designer.

You can expect turtleneck floral printed jersey dresses with a nude aesthetic, over-sized sleeves and pastel everything. Overall, the Hot wok aesthetic has taken over Rihanna’s designing mind and we are absolutely here for it.

With 24 pieces in the collection, we’re expecting it all to sell out very quickly (we’ve already started running to the shops, and you should too!).

A new cohort of entrepreneurs are revolutionising the online-shopping game. If you don’t know already, Depop is the e-marketplace app that allows its users to buy and sell clothing (among other items) and in-turn instigates sustainable purchasing decisions for its users.

But how?

With 80% of Depop’s 11 million users being under 25, resale and reuse culture allows them to contribute to reducing their reliance on fast-fashion brands in an affordable, cost-effective way. Due to popular sustainable fashion brands such as People Tree and Ninety Percent charging roughly £50 for an eco-friendly shirt, buying ‘pre-loved’ or vintage on Depop allows items of clothing that may have been thrown away to have a chance at a second life.

The work of Depop store @essiistore does exactly that. The brand focusses on taking vintage pieces and reworking them into new one-off items. Clearly this type of fashion is popularising as the store has 24k followers and is a Depop Community Leader, meaning it works closely with Depop to help grow, guide and educate the community. Charlotte Coulthard, behind the brand states on social media that her favourite thing about selling on Depop is: “being able to combine [her] passion for vintage clothing… and helping the planet to be more sustainable”.

Bella McFadden (aka “InternetGirl”), another Depop Community leader currently boasts 581k followers on the app. Her vintage re-sells on has led her to build herself a career, a e-commerce website and financial stability. Currently her items along with @essiistore, @194local, @sillyyat and other seller favourites are showcased IRL at Oxford Street’s Selfridges.

Until the end of October, the pop-up Depop space will showcase two different sellers a week. Those selected to display their vintage, luxury, reworked, streetwear and independent looks are brands that have been recognised by the app as advocates for reducing fashion’s global impact. The company prides itself on how its platform helps to “empower the next generation to transform fashion”. Chief Marketing Officer, Peter Semple, states “sustainability is changing the landscape of fashion and the Depop community is helping to define this movement”.

Depop’s admiration for people that rework, reuse and recycle is further shown in their collaboration with designer Nicole McLaughlin, the streetwear artist whose entire design premise of based upon upcycling the old to create something new. On Depop YouTube documentary “Creativity & Sustainability with Nicole McLaughlin”, viewers are reeled into Nicole’s world – from thrifting an old Colombia jacket to completely recreating it into a pair of boots.

Her Instagram feed acts as a portfolio for her viral designs – think Capri-Sun slides and tops made entirely from Nike hats. Her art epitomises the exact kind of sustainability Depop loves. Nicole, in fact, first sourced from Depop to make her now-infamous boots, as stated on the video. Her work parallels with the apps’ principle that one seller’s trash is another person’s treasure. Fans of Nicole definitely seem to agree with her green practices:

“Reworking IS the future and it IS a new form of art. This is going to be the next HUGE thing in fashion and for the first time, an actual ground-breaking movement” reads a comment on the video.

Depop, in its small 8 years of being, has managed to garner a cult-following. It has been able to construct a distinctive aesthetic among Gen-Z and the fashion intelligentsia undoubtedly represented by its collaboration Selfridges on its campaign “The New Order – exploring how the digital revolution is changing the way we live and shop”.

The app, known to some, as Instagram with a ‘buy’ button, clearly provides a way for the social media generation to purchase and sell clothing that is sitting inside another person’s wardrobe rather than a landfill. As the stigma behind buying second-hand dissipates, Depop is clearly a front runner in the online fashion world. It lets people maintain individualism with its one-off piece culture, allows young people snatch up bargains and simultaneously helps save the planet all in one place, what’s not to love?

Partnering with Selfridges in London, American rapper A$AP Rocky is going to be bringing an authentic New York touch to Oxford Street, the classic New York bodega.

The graffiti painted pop up, opens on the 2nd and runs through to the 11th of October, presenting over 150 exclusive products in a bodega style theme, an idea that the artist thought of himself, “I feel like London, and so many different parts of Europe don’t know what a New York bodega looks like inside, so I wanted to bring that here.” he says. The appeal is obvious, as this will not be the usual shopping experience that people will expect from the Selfridges store.

Expect typical corner store products inside, with an AWGE twist. From sweets, cookies and Krispy Kreme doughnuts, to posters and other limited edition items, all branded with cartoon characters resembling the AWGE crew. As for fashion you will find t-shirts, jackets and sweaters by Harun, Midnight Studios and LYBB, with items from A$AP’s collaboration with Guess also available to purchase.

Beyond providing creative direction, A$AP Rocky will continue to be hands on making a handful of appearances serving customers himself. Whether it is the memorabilia, experience of New York bodega’s or the chance to meet the musician himself, the pop-up has proved to be a hit.
