Created by Zadig & Voltaire founder Thierry Gillier, the hotel behaves less like a hotel and more
like an editorial set. The rooms are intimate, intentionally restrained: soft linens, muted tones,
furniture that looks collected rather than purchased. There is nothing overtly grand, yet everything
feels considered. Staying there feels like stepping into a Parisian apartment styled by someone with
impeccable taste but no interest in display. It’s the hotel equivalent of a perfectly cut blazer worn
with nothing flashy underneath: quiet, controlled, deeply coded.

Then there is The Carlyle, a hotel that understands the theatre of ritual better than almost anywhere else. The experience is not just about the room, but about repetition and memory. The elevators feel ceremonial. The corridors echo with decades of cultural history. Sitting at Bemelmans Bar at night, surrounded by murals and hushed conversation, feels like participating in a lineage rather than consuming a service. Much like a heritage fashion house, The Carlyle trades in continuity. It doesn’t chase relevance, relevance comes to it. 

For a more contemporary expression of this idea, Aman Tokyo offers an entirely different kind of authorship. Staying there feels like entering a sanctuary engineered for sensory recalibration. The lobby is vast and almost monastic, light filtering through washi-inspired textures. Rooms are stripped back to essentials: wood, stone, space, silence. Luxury here is absence — the removal of visual noise. Like modern fashion that prioritises cut over embellishment, Aman Tokyo designs through restraint. You leave feeling not impressed, but realigned. 

In Milan, Bulgari Hotel Milano functions as a bridge between fashion, business and social performance. Hidden behind a discreet entrance, the hotel opens into a private garden that feels like a secret shared among insiders. During fashion week, breakfast turns into an informal boardroom; dinner becomes a networking ritual. The rooms are understated but impeccably material-driven — heavy woods, stone bathrooms, tactile fabrics. Staying there feels strategic, not indulgent. It’s luxury as infrastructure, much like a fashion brand whose power lies in network and positioning rather than spectacle. 

What unites these hotels is not aesthetic similarity, but intentionality. Each knows exactly who it is for and what kind of world it is offering. Like fashion houses, they communicate values through detail: how light enters a room, how staff interact, how public and private spaces are calibrated. There is choreography involved — a sense that the guest is moving through a designed narrative. This is why hotels have become such powerful cultural symbols. They are no longer neutral. They take sides. They align with certain lifestyles, industries, rhythms of living. Choosing where to stay has become as expressive as choosing what to wear. In this new luxury landscape, the hotel is no longer a backdrop. It is a protagonist. And for those fluent in its language, staying somewhere is not about escape, it is about belonging to a world that makes sense.

The campaign was shot against Ferrari’s universally recognisable red background, a rich and vibrant backdrop for the contrasting olive greens and blacks that are prominent in the collection. However, the classic iconography goes not end there, as the camera moves as smoothly as a Ferrari would drive, we get a glimpse at the famous Prancing Horse that has come to represent the brand more than anything else. The deep red and Prancing Horse serve to prove that Enzo Ferrari’s dream has been achieved, the dream of permanence. These motifs are instantly recognisable as Ferrari’s, highlighting its everlasting cultural impact.

Not only has a dream been realised through the release of this campaign, but the dream that started this journey is at the core of the collection. From the nuts and bolts that have been embroidered over jackets to the workwear influences across the collection, the blurred boundaries between the luxury associated with the brand now and its mechanical origins work to highlight the various stages of Ferrari’s dream.

It is not only the lines between luxury and utility that have been blurred in this collection, the traditional notions of masculinity and femininity have also been played with. These binaries are not far removed from one another as the elegance of luxury exudes a traditionally feminine feel to the Menswear collection, whereas the utilitarian and workwear aspects of the Womenswear injects a feeling of masculinity to the looks. This blurring of traditional gender-distinctions comes to light most prominently in the Ferrari Suit where the iconic overalls have been converted into a dress, perfectly balancing the push and pull of masculinity and femininity.

The collection celebrates craft, something that is close to Ferrari’s heart. The intricate detail in the embroidery, precise darting, every cut and fold accentuates the pride that goes into the act of creating. The made-to-order garments place the process at its centre, with each item telling the story of its creation with every crease, curve or thread.

Ferrari, the epitome of timelessness. Their cars get more celebrated with age, their history learnt by fans new and old; and so, it makes sense that their clothing be timeless too.

Starting off, we present the second collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama. The French label has once again partnered with the Japanese pop artist to bring a collection which embodies the very best of art and fashion. Releasing this month, the capsule collection comes ten years after their first venture. First showcasing the collaboration at their Cruise 2023 runway, we can expect to see classic LV handbags with Kusama’s infamous polka-dot prints. The iconic monogramed styles of the luxury fashion house will be reimagined in new ways with Kusama’s artistic influence. 

The whole collaboration is so playful. The website allows viewers to interact with the art as the mouse tool transforms into a paintbrush, which allows you to paint polka-dots across the screen. Talk about painting the town red, Louis Vuitton has painted the whole city of Tokyo in polka-dots. Tokyo Tower and Shiba Park are included in the collaborative revamp, and if that’s not able to gain hype, we don’t know what would. Pop-up art exhibitions have appeared in the city and digital billboards show the anticipated collaboration. The incredible idea of transforming the capital of the artist’s home, celebrates the partnership as the city becomes an outdoor playground of art and fashion. We can’t rave about it enough and if we were to describe it in one word, it would be fun! Keep your eyes peeled this month for the drop of the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration.

Ganni x Ester Manas – Cool And Fierce Collide

Scandinavian sleek meets luxury inclusivity. This collaboration designed for Summer 23 has been kept quite quiet. We were able to receive a sneaky peak during the showing of Ester Manas’s ‘Sunset Body’ collection, and that was enough to have us hooked. This is a fashion partnership which we are very excited to view and are hoping to see more clues in the coming weeks as to what this collection will entail.

What do we know? We know Ganni creates minimalist, cool styles which push the boundaries of street style. We know Ester Manas focuses on body empowerment and inclusivity, producing fierce designs which embody their focus. Their ‘Sunset Body’ collection for beach and swimwear remained true to their brand ethos and featured sexy pieces in radiant colours of pinks, limes and oranges. So, we can imagine the collaboration will not neglect either brand voice and find strength together. As for the clothing, both brands are very different in their style and this is exciting to think about what they will produce. We do predict it will be an incredible partnership and benefit both parties involved.

In an age when being eco-conscious is trendy and the pressing issue of sustainability is permeating the fashion industry from runway to high-street, ‘greenwashing’ is the latest buzzword in the limelight. With designers and fast-fashion retailers latching onto eco- friendly fashion, without really considering what being sustainable means, luxury fashion label Mother of Pearl is one of the brands pioneering the movement in attempt to slow down fast fashion and using transparency to set the bar for what it truly means to be a sustainable fashion brand.

When Amy Powney joined East-London label Mother of Pearl after graduating from university in 2006, it was a small luxury, but not sustainable, business. Now, running it herself as Creative Director means she has been able to incorporate the values that have shaped the brand into the sustainable powerhouse it is today. Last year, Powney launched her ground-breaking No Frills line, featuring a collection of fully traceable wardrobe staples from simple denim to classic dresses and tops, with a minimal impact on the planet that doesn’t compromise on style or design. Made up of wonderfully wearable polka-dot dresses made from peace silk, which is produced from cocoons without killing the silkworms that made them, and masculine silhouettes adorned with ultra-feminine details, the success of the brand’s new sustainable direction is in part down to its high-end appeal and wearability. As sales on Mother of Pearl’s website have doubled since the No Frills line was introduced, incorporating sustainability into the brand certainly hasn’t diminished its power as a luxury, high-end label, and its designs are as covetable as ever.

With a focus on transparency, everything is an open book. Mother of Pearl’s website includes a feature allowing consumers to filter all of its garments according to sustainability attributes, with the aim of creating a more transparent space surrounding the processes of producing garments – whether that’s organically-sourced and cruelty- free materials, the social impact of manufacturing, or the item’s carbon footprint.

Though the high-end, luxury market of environment-friendly brands isn’t accessible to everyone, the morals and virtues that lie behind Mother of Pearl are essential in paving the way towards a more sustainable fashion industry overall. Powney’s message goes beyond the chic, luxury garments she produces – consume less, buy quality over quantity, wear your clothes for longer, and when you’re finished with them, sell them on or donate them. The principle of more mindful shopping and consuming less is something that everyone can do, insists Powney, in an age when £140 million worth of clothing goes to landfill each year in the UK alone.

What makes Mother of Pearl stand out from other ecological clothing brands or so-called ethical collections produced by high-street shops? Powney insists that a clothing line can only really be considered sustainable when it takes into account all of the elements of the business of producing clothing garments – from sourcing its materials, manufacturing techniques, animal welfare, the impact of transport and carbon footprint, packaging and so on. As the ‘trend’ of becoming more environmentally-conscious rises in face of the pressing climate crisis, retailers profit off of ‘greenwashing’, claiming to be environment- friendly without being fully transparent about how their clothes are made or their businesses are run. Creating clothing from recycled polyester or replacing plastic packaging with cardboard might be a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t make a clothing line genuinely sustainable. Creating a clothing collection with minimal impact of the planet means thinking through every stage of the process – and Powney acknowledges that she still has a long way to go. There’s always more that can be done, which is why Mother of Pearl’s future will be dedicated to finding even more ways to limit its environmental impact, as well as spreading the message that lies at the root of the brand so that eventually, we can hit a collective stride towards a more sustainable fashion industry.

Is that the winds of change I can hear? It certainly seems that way at Louis Vuitton as earlier they announced who would replace Kim Jones as Artistic Director for menswear. Off-White founder Virgil Abloh has been named the man for the job and he represents how the luxury brand is moving in a fresh direction as they endeavour to attract new audiences.

Abloh, perhaps best known for working as Kanye West’s Creative Director, is the first African-American designer to be named as Artistic Director for the brand and his ability to merge luxury fashion with streetwear is sure to add a twist to future collections. Michael Burke, the Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton who worked with Abloh at Fendi in 2006, described the designer as having an ‘innate creativity and disruptive approach’ which, in turn, has ‘made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today’.

In an interview with WWD in 2016, Abloh sums up his style as ‘a discourse between me and the kids’ and having already successfully collaborated with the likes of Jimmy Choo, Nike and Moncler, he is sure to bring this ideology with him to his new role. But the man doesn’t stop at designing fashion, he draws inspiration from his architectural background whilst sidelining as a successful DJ – he has impressively played alongside the world famous The Martinez Brothers. All of this, alongside being named International Designer of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2017 and receiving the Urban Luxe gong at the 2017 British Fashion Awards – not bad!

We will all be waiting with baited breath for his first show in June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris to see how he has combined the ‘heritage and creative integrity’ of Louis Vuitton with ‘modern times’. But for now, we can just be excited by the prospect of a creative, innovative young mind taking the reigns and moving this established luxury brand in to the future.
