This approach is not new, but it has become rarer and therefore more powerful. Beyoncé has long
treated albums as conceptual events, collapsing the boundaries between music, film and fashion.
Her projects are designed as unified statements, where visuals are not promotional tools but
narrative extensions. Every frame, costume and movement carries meaning. The album behaves like
a curated exhibition, meticulously controlled yet emotionally expansive.

Similarly, Frank Ocean has built a career around restraint and coherence. His albums are sparse,
slow and visually minimal, yet deeply intentional. Imagery, typography and sound exist in quiet
dialogue, demanding attention rather than demanding clicks. In a culture of excess, his work
reminds us that absence can be as expressive as abundance.

For Billie Eilish, the album has become a vehicle for visual transformation. Each era introduces a
distinct palette and silhouette that mirrors the emotional register of the music. Colour, clothing and
composition are never incidental. They evolve alongside her sound, creating a visual continuity that
allows audiences to recognise not just a song, but a phase of self-expression.
Tyler, The Creator approaches albums as character studies. His releases arrive with alter egos,
uniforms and carefully constructed worlds that feel closer to cinema than marketing. Fashion, set
design and narrative are integrated into the project from the outset. The album is not just heard – it is
performed, worn and inhabited.

Few artists have explored the album as art object as consistently as Lady Gaga. Her work has
always existed at the intersection of music, fashion and performance, with each release establishing
a visual mythology of its own. Costumes are not styling choices; they are part of the language. The
album becomes a stage where identity, spectacle and concept collide.

Rosalía brings a different kind of precision to this practice. Her albums fuse tradition and
experimentation, drawing from flamenco, pop and avant-garde imagery to build worlds that feel
both contemporary and deeply referential. Visuals are symbolic rather than decorative, rooted in
gesture, movement and material culture.

Finally, Kendrick Lamar treats the album as a philosophical structure. His projects unfold like
essays – layered, intentional and visually restrained. Imagery, staging and performance reinforce the
intellectual architecture of the music. Nothing exists in isolation. Everything contributes to
meaning. What unites these artists is not genre or popularity, but authorship. They resist fragmentation. They insist on cohesion. In doing so, they reclaim the album as a serious artistic form, one that rewards patience, attention and immersion.In a cultural landscape driven by immediacy, the album as artwork feels almost radical. It asks listeners to slow down, to look as much as they listen, and to engage with music not as content, but as creation.

It’s a feminist album that delights in freedom and equality. Gaga doesn’t care what the haters think and you shouldn’t either. Enjoy this nostalgic party and sing along to ‘Born This Way’, ‘Judas’, ‘The Edge of Glory’, and all the other Aries anthems.

Taurus

Full of absolute bangers like ‘Boyz’, ‘Jimmy’, ‘Paper Planes’, and ‘Come Around’, Kala (2007) is arguably one of the best albums of the noughties. Tenacious, hard-headed, yet down-to-earth, M.I.A. embodies many of the admirable traits of Taurus. Full of memorable bars, eclectic yet danceable beats, and M.I.A.’s plucky energy oozing through her gritty vocals, Kala will enthuse Taurus will energy to tackle the day.

Gemini

21^st May – 21^st June

Lively Geminis start your night out right with a playful house album with energy that matches your love of fun and sass. For those not in the know Deee-lite were a popular New York trio in the early to mid-90s best known for their hit song ‘Groove is in the Heart’. The supremely cool Miss Lady Miss Kier fronted Deee-lite influencing generations to come with her outlandish outfits, soulful sound, and activism. This larger-than-life group fused their colourful psychedelic 60s style with acid house, dance pop, and a hint of hip hop to create a kitschy camp hedonic potion of sound perfect for partying to. Their finest work is Dewdrops in the Garden (1994) features repetitive thumping beats, super cutesy vocals, and fabulous piano – it’s sure to pack the dance floor at any house party.

Cancer 

22^nd June to 22^nd July

Cancers are drawn to soft, creative music often with a romantic quality. A fellow Cancer herself, Kali Uchis makes emotionally nurturing music for the highly intuitive among us. Cancers treat yourselves to a bit of healing and romantic passion with Kali’s newest record Red Moon in Venus (2023). Reflecting “the divine femininity of the moon and Venus” the warm laidback R&B album features a mix of passionate love songs and Kali’s heartbroken yearnings that will entrance Cancers. Hop into a warm bath and soak up the good vibes like a true water sign.

Though Lana Del Rey is a Cancer, her third studio album Ultraviolence (2014) gives off Leo energy. On the album, Lana is confident playing up the ultimate femme fatale image that she had been typecast in presenting the image of a drama-adoring, ambitious, but loyal to her lover diva – just like a true Leo. Any Leo’s melodramatic tendencies will thrive whilst wallowing to ‘Cruel World’, strutting to ‘Florida Kilos’, and crooning to ‘Shades of Cool’.

Virgo

August 23^rd – 22^nd September

Hardworking, creative, reliable, patient, kind Virgos – you deserve an album as good as your character. Mama’s Gun (2000) by psychedelic neo-soul goddess Erykah Badu is the ideal album for you. Incorporating elements of funk, soul, and jazz styles and dabbling in themes of love, philosophy, and religion, it’s a great album for chilling out with your friends and reflecting on your day of putting good energy out into the world.

Libra 

23^rd September – 23^rd October

British singer-songwriter Joy Crookes, a Libra, always sounds poised and in control even when singing about vulnerable themes such as heartbreak, mental health struggles, and identity. Libras will fall for the neo-soul singer on the rich and luscious Skin (2021). Despite the heavy subject matter, Joy’s honey-toned voice and jazzy melodies will soothe Libra’s soul and help them restore the balance they crave after a long day.

Scorpio

23^rd October – 21^st November

The mysterious and passionate Scorpio crave meaningful complex music to match their intense personalities. Rosalía’s MOTOMAMI (2022) will be right up their alley. The concept album detailing the Spanish singer’s struggles with homesickness and isolation during the past three years blew away critics last year and reached the top ten in seven different countries. This electric mix of art pop, flamenco nuevo, and neoperro will ignite the fire in Scorpio whilst satisfying their urge for deep meaning.

Sagittarius

22^nd November to 21^st December

The masked villain MF Doom was an innovative artist who inspired many of his successors with his impressive ability to weave samples from retro cartoons, snappy beats, humorous lyrics, and gorgeous flows to create masterful hip hop tracks that never missed. Adventurous Sagittarius who love the witty and tongue-in-cheek need to listen to MM FOOD… (2004) – a concept album “about the things you find on a picnic, or at a picnic table”. Undoubtedly those who haven’t listened to MF Doom yet will still be familiar with the TikTok-adored tracks ‘Hoe Cakes’ and ‘Rap Snitch Knishes’.

Capricorn

22^nd December – 19^th January

The overachieving, persistent, and sensitive Capricorn will feel inspired by many of the themes on Little Simz’s Sometimes I Might Be Introvert (2021). On this ambitious album Little Simz tackles the injustices black people face to this day, the government’s corruption, as well as her own insecurities, hopes, and dreams, and praises women and other strong people of colour. It’s a bold album that at times is triumphant with Simz’s lyrics surrounded by uplifting fanfare and in other moments more vulnerable and reflective. Either way, it’s an empowering hip hop album full of smooth melodies that will motivate Cancer in whatever endeavours they’re pursuing.

Aquarius

20^th January – 18^th February

Miley Cyrus has always been original and one step ahead of the trends throughout her career – she wowed us as Hannah Montana, reinvented herself with ‘Wrecking Ball’, gave us all the rocker glam with ‘Midnight Sky’, and her new album Endless Summer Vacation (2023) will be the ideal summer soundtrack for Aquarius. Clever, self-reliant, and creative, Aquarius embody many of the traits Miley stands for. You’ll be obsessed with Miley’s spunky new tracks like ‘Handstand’, ‘River’, and ‘Rose Colored Lenses’.

Pisces

19^th February – 20^th March

Synthpop duo Magdalena Bay shook up the music world in 2021 with their futuristic debut album Mercurial World (2021). Its surreal cyber sound sucks the listener into a pink-tinted electronic world – the whole album sounds like if an MS Paint drawing of a unicorn could sing. Mercurial World will appeal to whimsical Pisces with their love for daydreaming. Hypnotic and melodic, lose yourself to the airy ‘Dawning of the Season’ and dance yourself stupid to ‘Hysterical Us’.

This year featured five performances from all the artists nominated for Best Original Song: Lady Gaga with ‘Hold my Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick, Rihanna with ‘Lift Me Up’ from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Sofia Carson and Diane Warren with ‘Applause’ from Tell It like a Woman, Stephanie Hsu and David Byrne with ‘This is a Life’ from Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava with ‘Naatu Naatu’ from RRR.

Composer of ‘Naatu Naatu’ MM Keeravani made history by winning the award for Best Original Song. Previously the first Indian song ever to be nominated for an Oscar, it is now the first Indian song to have won. The song has gathered millions of views on TikTok and YouTube and it’s easy to see why with its charming infectious spirit. Kaala Bhairava, one of the singers of ‘Naatu Naatu’, told The Hollywood Reporter that the song is award-worthy because it was “rooted to its nativity” whilst MM Keeravani said the song was “the pride of every Indian” in his acceptance speech. Though Gaga lost to the song, the video of her wholesome joyous reaction to hearing that the track had won has melted Twitter’s collective heart.

Singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava set the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles alight with their ultra-peppy rendition of ‘Naatu Naatu’. Featuring more than 20 dancers performing the now iconic dynamic dance in Spring pastels the cast brought a breath of fresh air to the ceremony and received a standing ovation. Many were impressed that the performance translated onto the stage so well considering the dance in the film was shot over 15 days, with 150 dancers and a crew of 200 working 12 hours a day.

Gaga took to the stage for the fourth time at the Oscars this year giving a heartfelt rendition of her song ‘Hold My Hand’. She introduced the “deeply personal” song by telling the world, “you might find you can be your own hero even if you feel broken inside”. Changing out of her glam Versace gown, she chose to perform in a black T-shirt, jeans, and converse for a more casual look showing her versatility as a performer capable of earnest passion as well as her usual campy style. The last time Gaga performed at the Oscars was in 2019 when she teamed up with Bradley Cooper for the song ‘Shallow’ from A Star Is Born which won the award for Best Original Song later that night.

One of the highlights of the evening was Rihanna’s emotional tribute to Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther actress Danai Gurira made us all tear up with her introduction to the song as she remembered Boseman who sadly passed away in 2020. Gurira went on to call the Barbadian superstar “royalty in her own right”. Rihanna glowed as she performed pregnant in a custom-made look by Maison Margiela. She wore a stunning black bra embellished with draping crystals paired with matching black pants with a gold floral design.

Rihanna returned to the studio for the first time in six years to record ‘Lift Me Up’, which is also the first song that Rihanna has been nominated for an Academy Award in her career. The song deservedly achieved a standing ovation as well as a big cheer from boyfriend A$AP who seemed smitten with the singer as usual. According to Pop Crave when asked how her voice was feeling ahead of her performance Rihanna replied, “Beautiful. God-given.” 

Whilst Mitski and David Byrne’s ‘This is a Life’ didn’t win best song, fans were enthralled by Stephanie Hsu and David Byrne’s trippy number featuring hot dog fingers, flashing lights multiverse style, and Stephanie’s beautiful bagel costume. Everything Everywhere All At Once took home the most awards with a whopping seven total and now is one of the highest Oscar-winning films of all time.

It seems that “less is more” was the memo for the 2023 Oscars, as so many of the stars went for more understated looks – Monae being one of them. Wearing a simple, radiant base and some subtle contour, all attention was drawn to her eyes. She went for an extra bold cat eye with a cut crease, topped off with some silver inner-corner highlight and the most gorgeous lashes. Her thick sculpted brows complemented the look perfectly. So as not to take attention away from the eyes, Monae’s look was finished off with a light nude lip and some clear gloss.

Tems

Tems strutted onto the carpet flaunting a warm, bronzey base, perfectly contrasting her icy, silver fox-eye and a pouty ombre lip. The Nigerian singer sported a pair of the longest false lashes we’ve seen in a while, which matched the flamboyancy of her dress. The makeup gave her an elegant, sophisticated look.

Rihanna

Rihanna graced us all with her beauty at the Oscars this year. The singer proudly showed off her baby bump while still looking absolutely flawless. Sporting a blood-red lip and a subtle fox eye, Rihanna looked classy as ever. The lip colour choice complemented her skin beautifully and made her eyes pop even more than usual. Her skin looked effortlessly airbrushed – no doubt the work of Fenty.

Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai made an appearance at this year’s Academy Awards, parading a natural and youthful look. Although wearing an enchanting silver dress, her makeup was relatively simple. The 25-year-old activist was not afraid to let her stunning natural skin shine through on the carpet. The bright lip colour brought a splash of pink hue to the overall outfit.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga didn’t seem to want to join in on the natural, stripped-down makeup trend on the Oscars carpet this year (at least not until her jaw-dropping performance later that night). The singer went for a dramatic smokey eye, paired with a neon red lip and rosy cheeks. Her face was sculpted beautifully with a cool-toned contour and setting powder, resulting in a bright, mattified look.

Kendall Jenner

The Oscar’s After Party saw Kendall Jenner wearing a light, rosy makeup look topped with a messy bun. The look gave her a natural, refined appearance. Jenner clearly went for a warmer vibe with her makeup, sporting some peachy blush and matching lip gloss with minimal eye makeup. These sorts of stripped-down looks dominated the Oscars red carpet this year.

Halle Bailey

Halle Bailey turned up looking like a real-life fairy. Bailey was absolutely beaming the whole time she was on the carpet, clearly excited to share the new teaser for The Little Mermaid. The 22- year-old actress was clearly going for a Disney-inspired look, wearing silver eyeshadow, a soft glam base and a nude lip. This doe-eyed look managed to turn quite a few heads on the carpet.

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh’s sculpted yet supple look matched perfectly with the current trend on the red carpet this year. Pugh chose to go for a pink theme – giving the look a playful feel without diminishing its gracefulness. The actress sported a glowy, more radiant finish – a trend that is becoming more and more popular at the moment.

Cara Delevingne

The Hollywood Glam look was brought back by none other than Cara Delevingne. In her stunning red dress, the star brought back the class and sophistication of 90s Hollywood makeup – with crimson eyeshadow, pink blush and rose lip gloss. The colour choice added a sense of grunginess to the elegant look – seeming reminiscent of the early 90s grunge era as well.

Hunter Schafer

Hunter Schafer is one of the most daring dressers in Hollywood right now, and it always pays off. Wearing a bandeau that was (quite literally) as light as a feather and a silk maxi skirt to The Vanity Fair Oscar Party, she held onto her crown as the queen of avant-garde dressing. The look came courtesy of Ann Demeulemeester’s Fall 2023 collection, and it honestly looks like it was made for Hunter. 

Emily Ratajkowski 

Emily Ratajkowski is no stranger to the ‘naked dress’, from the Met Gala to running errands, Emily has proved that she can rock this look no matter the occasion. Last night was no different, wearing a shimmering sheer gown from Feben the model and author put a whole new spin on the look. Our favourite aspect of this look was the push and pull between what was on display and what was not, the contrast of the sheer material with the length of the dress, its high neck and gloved sleeves played with the notions of conservative or modest dressing.

Malala Yousafzai

Nobel Prize Laureate, Malala Yousafzai took to The Oscars red-carpet as an executive producer for Stranger at the Gate which was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film, just when you thought she couldn’t be any more inspirational. She wore a silver sequinned gown from Ralph Lauren and paired the glamorous look with a bold red lip. The best part of this look were the intricately placed crystals on the sleeve of the gown, highlighting the attention to detail that went into its design. 

Tems

Wearing a look from Ukrainian fashion house Lever Couture, Tems looked like the most high-fashion cloud you will ever see. The look defied gravity and looked so delicate yet structured. The way that the material flowed down through the skirt and up around Tems’ head gave an angelic feel to the look, as if the singer had just floated into the event on a cloud. Despite the ethereal nature of the look, it has caused some controversy. Fans took to Twitter to share their upset over the headpiece obstructing peoples view during the ceremony, but personally we would be honoured to have our view blocked by this look for a few hours. 

Simone Ashley

Bridgerton star, Simone Ashley, took to the Vanity Fair afterparty in a vibrant Nina Ricci look. The blue sequin gown cam courtesy of Harris Reed as the newest Creative Director for Nina Ricci and was full of his usual red-carpet flair. The look featured a dramatic slit up the skirt that had an oversized bow at the top that asymmetrically matched the one at the top of the gown’s one shoulder. We may know her as the Viscountess Bridgerton, but this look was pure modern Cinderella.

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner looked like an Oscar brought to life at last night’s afterparty. The model wore a gold archival look from Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2008 Spring/Summer collection. The look was paired with a casual up-do and minimal makeup to let the mermaid-inspired dress do the talking. 

Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe opted for a custom Vera Wang gown for this year’s Academy Awards, a look that featured a black velvet bustier and loosely draped orange skirt. This look stood out in a sea of more traditional gowns, which is one of the things that we love the most about Janelle Monáe’s red-carpet looks.

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh continued her immaculate partnership with Valentino for this year’s Oscars wearing one of the most dramatic looks of the night. Maison Valentino took to Instagram to share the look, describing it as “a beige taffeta draped dress, black cotton faille bows and a black stretch cady culotte”. But one thing we have to talk about is the hair; at the BAFTAs last month Miss Flo perfectly matched her spiky bun to the tulle ruffles of her Nina Ricci gown, a styling decision that was pure genius, and let me tell you, she’s done it again. For the Oscar’s Florence’s sleek up-do mimicked the billowing sleeves of her gown, perfectly tying the beauty look in with the outfit. 

Winnie Harlow

Winnie Harlow brought some fun to the Oscars last night with her neon yellow Giorigo Armani gown. While the silhouette was classic, the colour alone made the look standout. Featuring a crystal encrusted black flower on the left shoulder and a matching zip running just off-centre, the look capitalised on small details, making a look that was simple, yet intentional.

Halle Bailey

Halle Bailey proved that she is the people’s Ariel in a aqua-blue tulle gown at this year’s Oscars. The delicate ball-gown confirmed her status as a real-life Disney princess as the singer and actress was glowing down the red-carpet. This look just made us really excited for The Little Mermaid to come out in May.

Lady Gaga

2019 Oscar winner Lady Gaga took to the red-carpet last night and gave a surprise performance during the ceremony. While she may not have won Best Original Song this year, she definitely won on the red-carpet. Lady Gaga wore a Versace gown that was only presented on the runway last Thursday. The look featured a sheer bodice that connected to the dropped waistline of the A-line skirt in an exciting re-imagination of the classic ballgown. 

Rihanna

Rihanna is out here defending her crown as our best dressed celebrity in a custom Alaïa dress designed by Pieter Mulier. The look was unlike anything else we saw that night and made us so grateful to have Rihanna back on our red-carpets. The look was composed of a brown turtleneck with a leather bra and skirt layered over the top, something that does not sound red-carpet worthy but proves you wrong the instant that you see it.

Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne’s look honestly left us speechless, which is ok because the red Elie Saab ballgown really does speak for itself. Everything about it was perfect, from the dramatic bow on the shoulder to the way that the look draped around the waist into the voluptuous skirt, and don’t even get us started on the leg slit. At this rate, Cara will be reclaiming her position as fashion’s favourite it-girl very quickly. 

Jenny Slate

Actress Jenny Slate attended the 95^th Academy Awards with co-star Marcel in a custom Thom Browne look. The strapless gown was perfectly accessorised with a micro-cropped blazer that really accentuated the hourglass silhouette that the dress’ bodice created. And while we’re on the topic, we have to say that for a shell Marcel was pretty well dressed too.

Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (2021)

American musician, record producer, and filmmaker Questlove revealed to many a remarkable part of black history that had been previously glossed over with his documentary Summer of Soul. The concert film weaves together beautiful footage from the free Harlem Music Festival that took place over six weeks in 1961 with interviews from the people who attended and performed, who look back fondly over 50 years later.

It features soul-healing performances for Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, The 5th Dimension, The Staple Singers, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mavis Staples, Sly and the Family Stone, and The Chambers Brothers. Summer of Soul is a touching celebration of the amazing fashion, music, and culture in Harlem as well as an important political film that touches on race, class, and legacy.

Matangi/Maya/M.I.A. (2018)

Fans, haters, and curious views are given an insight into the multi-faceted controversial but undeniably talented singer M.I.A. in this documentary that spans over 22 years of the rapper’s life. Documenting her rise to fame, her own perspective on her controversies, public appearances, her political activism, and her identity as an East Asian woman, the viewer gains a better grasp of who Maya Arulpragasam is through the course of the film. The eccentric star is mesmerising in this critically acclaimed documentary that won World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award at Sundance 2018.

Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991)

Madonna: Truth or Dare is an important chapter in pop culture with many other documentaries, parodies, and reality TV shows taking notes from the film. It’s still one of the highest-grossing documentaries ever made. The film provides a deep look at Madonna’s relationships with her crew, then-boyfriend Warren Beatty, family, and friends whilst on her Blonde Ambition tour. Edited in a moody black-and-white whilst the performances are left in radiant colour, it’s a visually stunning film as well as an illuminating one. All hail the queen of pop.

Homecoming (2019)

Beyoncé’s self-directed, written, and produced concert film on the performance held in 2018 at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is the music documentary to end all music docs. Receiving widespread critical acclaim, with some even saying it’s one of the greatest concert films of all time, it won Best Music Film at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards and Best Music Documentary at the IDA Documentary Awards 2019. Beyoncé grants the audience an inside look at how she takes a concept, revises, rehearses, and creates a cultural moment that will be remembered throughout history. If you need some inspiration in your life watch now.

Amy (2015)

Sparking heavy criticism from Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, Amy pulls archival footage and personal testimonials to piece together a heart-wrenching but tender story of a talented beauty who departed too soon. Critically acclaimed yet controversial, everyone will have a different take on Amy which gives a portrait of the life and career of the British singer as she struggles with addiction, fame, the media, and her family. RIP Amy.

A wild unpredictable shambolic funfest from start to finish Dave Chappelle’s Block Party follows comedian Chappelle during the summer of 2004 as he throws a block party in the Clinton Hill neighbourhood of Brooklyn. The free rap show in Brooklyn featured Kanye West, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, The Roots, and briefly reunited The Fugees. If you like amazing rap performances, hip hop, and a lot of guerrilla marketing through megaphones it’s the one for you.

Gaga: Five Foot Two (2017)

We see a softer side to the formidable pop icon Gaga in Gaga: Five Foot Two. The documentary follows Gaga in 2016 through the lead-up to Joanna and her Superbowl performance. From interactions with her fans, her struggles with chronic pain, intel into her feud with Madonna, the filming of American Horror Story: Roanoke, and her home life, there’s nothing that’s off the table in this unguarded revealing documentary.

Miss Americana(2020)

Megastar Taylor Swift comes off as personable, smart, and down-to-earth in this emotional revealing documentary filmed over several years of the singer’s life. Starting from her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018 it follows her journey up to her seventh studio album Lover in 2019. Tackling sensitive subjects with strength and grace such as her battle with body dysmorphia, her mother’s cancer diagnosis, the toxic internet culture, her sexual assault trial, self-esteem issues, and her decision to go public with her political views, Swift shows why she is an incredible role model for all young women.

Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me (2022)

A must-see for every Selenators or anyone who grew up watching the star on Wizards of Waverley Place. The documentary follows Selena Gomez through a six-year period of her career and reveals her struggles with fame and physical and mental well-being in the wake of her diagnosis with lupus and bipolar disorder. Praised for its mental health transparency the film is a raw and vulnerable look into the mind and life of Gomez. Emotional but ultimately uplifting – pass the tissues.

The Upcoming Rihanna Documentary(2023 – hopefully!)

With over 1,000 hours of footage filmed over six and a half years, it’s no surprise that the editing of this documentary has taken so long and is still a work in progress. With the footage providing an up-close look at the rise of Rihanna’s billion-dollar empire Fenty, the singer at work in the studio, her relationship with Rocky, and RiRi’s experiences of new motherhood, we cannot wait to see it. It’s recently been sold to Amazon so hopefully we’ll be to watch soon.

Lady Gaga’s brand Haus Laboratories launched back in July 2019 with lip liners, a gloss, and a multi- use pigment. Her brand focussed mainly on the lips and eyes, and was exclusively available on Amazon and the brand’s website.

On the 1st of May, the brand changed its name to Haus Labs, with a new, simple logo and posted the message “The feature is beautiful”.

Since then, the brand has revealed more of its new image and surprised us with exciting futuristic and vibrant makeup looks. Under the new name Haus Labs by Lady Gaga, they will release “supercharged clean artistry makeup powered by innovation”. The “reimagined” Haus Labs will focus on clean skincare-infused makeup with proprietary ingredients, futuristic formulas, and no compromise in colour.

On her Instagram, Lady Gaga wrote, “I’m extremely excited to announce that we are bringing brand- new, supercharged, clean artistry makeup to the world, through a place that has inspired me for years, Sephora. At Haus Labs, artistry is for everyone, and no one should have to damage their skin or sacrifice their principles and values to be self-expressive with high-performance makeup.”

Haus Labs launches on the 9th of June at hauslabs.com and Sephora. They haven’t revealed their new products, but we are excited to learn more in the coming weeks.

The stylish crime drama which follows the marriage and subsequent divorce of Gucci founder,
Maurizio Gucci, and his ex-wife, is based on a book of the same name and is a story of murder,
madness, glamour, and greed. In the film Gaga portrays Patrizia Gucci who was famously
convicted for hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband in 1998.

Embodying the true essence of the film and the rich glamour of Gucci, Gaga stunned in a sheer
royal purple gown from Alessandro Michele’s recent collection which was debuted at last week’s
Gucci Love Parade. Boasting butterfly-esque sleeves which tumbled effortlessly into a dramatic
train behind the musician-turned-actress, the dress was a show-stopping number fit for a queen.
Alongside some dazzling Tiffany jewels, killer platform heels, seductive fish net stockings, and
makeup to match, Lady Gaga was undoubtedly the star of the red carpet, proving she knows
exactly how to dress for the occasion.

Gaga’s appearance on the red carpet has been praised by those in the know and fans across
social media who cannot wait to watch the film for themselves, us included! 100 years after the
fashion house was founded, House of Gucci is released on Friday 26th November 2021, so be
sure to save the date!

After catching glimpses of the House of Gucci outfits via paparazzi photography, the trailer has assured us that the costumes are going to be iconic! Drawing from the Gucci archives, Oscar-winning costume designer, Janty Yates has created a 1980s fantasy.

The trailer opens with Lady Gaga, as Patrizia. Immediately absorbed into character, she is dawned in a burgundy v-neck, with a fur overcoat, oversized round sunglasses, and chunky, sparkling jewellery. We first see the chic, more refined couture of the 1980s, understandably so, to reflect the wealth amassed by the Gucci brand.

Whilst the heavy 1980s styling of skirt and blazer power suits, long fur coats, loud jewellery, and permed and teased hair suggest the movie is predominantly based in the 1980s, subtle nods towards 70s disco are also included. Occurring at a transitional period between the late glamour of the 1970s and the dramatic silhouettes of the 1980s, the costuming references both eras. Gaga is seen in a turquoise glittering halterneck, with permed hair and bangles during a lively party.

Adam Driver is defined as Maurizio Gucci in tailored suits of rich fabrics. 1980s menswear collections often relied on suits as the main garments. Gucci retains notoriety today for their suits, specifically thanks to celebrities like Harry Styles who continues to wear the flared and colourful costumes. An unrecognisable Jared Leto, as Paolo Gucci, wears a Styles-esque pink monochromatic, corduroy suit, which he states is ‘chic’. The colourful combinations worn by Leto indicate Alessandro Michele’s dedication to maintaining some of Gucci’s house history today, as they are still ‘chic’.

The trailer’s title graphics, introducing the actors, even adopts the iconic green and red Gucci stripes. This motif is rooted in the house’s history in 1921, opening as a leather goods manufacturer. Inspired by Italian saddle detail, the branded green and red stripe is still popular in their designs today.

During a ski trip, Gaga as Patrizio still retains her socialite costume in pink Christian Dior ski goggles and a matching puffy coat, belted in the middle to achieve the 1980s cinched silhouette with boxed shoulders.

Blessing herself and stating, ‘father, son, and House of Gucci’, Gaga wears one of the most definitive eighties looks: a ruched and ruffled, pink polka dot cocktail dress. Accompanied with permed hair, heavy eye makeup, and a chained choker, the outfit could not be more definitive of the 1980s if it tried.

Though some might gasp and shudder at the thought of 1980s fashion with images of neon colours and parachute pants, the costumes for House of Gucci is nothing to be afraid of. The wealth of the Gucci family has allowed Yates to define them in a chic wardrobe of couture. Whilst the eighties did bring leg warmers and lycra, it also defined the wardrobe of the working woman in oversized power suits, cocktail dresses, and chunky jewellery. The House of Gucci styling could cause a resurgence of 1980s trends, thanks to the costuming design of Yates making the eighties fashionable again.
