In perhaps the most on-the-nose collaboration, AVAVAV recruited Adidas to work alongside them in their recent Milan Fashion Week SS25 runway. Their catwalk, or should we say track lane, saw the seamless amalgamation of the practical and impractical to produce a complex collection of sportswear and athleisure that anyone can make their own.
Notable pieces included deconstructed tracksuits, figure-hugging slip dresses, and Adidas’ signature tri-stripe motif. According to AVAVAV designer, Karlsson, sportswear giant Adidas instructed “Do whatever you want, but don’t f*** with

the stripes.” And Karlsson certainly did not, letting the iconic tri-stripe design speak for itself in her pieces. Elsewhere, models were bundled in bloodstained bandages in a comment on the dark sides of both art forms: sport and fashion.

While AVAVAV and The Attico may not have set any PBs or won any medals at Milan Fashion Week, the brands have certainly made history in these ambitious collabs, balancing chic style and functional sportswear in a feat of fashion innovation.

With a sell-out tour and album, Future Nostalgia, based on blasts from the past – including samples of tracks by Gwen Stefani, Stevie Nicks, and Neneh Cherry – global pop sensation Dua Lipa took the neon lights of retro disco and rave flyers as the inspiration for her second collab with sportswear brand Puma. With a viral Versace runway wink under her belt, having also walked for Balenciaga’s latest haute couture show last week in Paris, Lipa is one of fashion’s hottest icons of the moment, making the new Puma Flutur collaboration a must-see.

Dua Lipa not only inspires us with her music but also with her sense of fashion. Leopard faux-fur hats, silver shining opera gloves, and shaggy knit leg warmers are just a few of Dua Lipa’s recent outfit choices – but her adventurous dressing goes far beyond that to expertly match streetwear with emerging labels and Y2K style. Her new collection perfectly displays this and has been previewed during her concerts as Lipa wore the pieces throughout her Future Nostalgia tour.

Designing a 30-piece collection with the Puma team, together with longtime Puma collaborator, designer, and songwriter Billy Walsh, Lipa’s unisex collection (the first segment dropped late last year), was conceived with dancing in mind. With a tour wardrobe made up of lycra bodysuits by the likes of Mugler and Balenciaga, Lipa’s high-voltage dance routines require outfits that are glamorous as well as functional. The Dua Lipa x Puma collection, available globally from 14 July 2022, features tracksuits, skin-tight zip-up jerseys, skirts, and polo tops in vibrant orange, pink and purple shades. Vivid colours and striped maxi dresses that evoke the sporty athleisure side of Lipa’s unique style. In an accompanying campaign film and set of images by Jordan Hemingway, the designs are modeled by a troupe of dancers from Lipa’s Future Nostalgia tour.

The ultimate summer sneakers, Adidas and Prada have come together to present two new colour variations of the A P LUNA ROSSA 21. Originally created for sailing, the grey version is the lifestyle version of the model, worn by the team Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli who won the PRADA Cup and became the official challenger of the 36th edition of America’s Cup presented by Prada. The second version, in absolute black, pays homage to the legendary stories of both brands with a subtle play of tonality.

“Performance is key and priority number one. As sailors, we’re really competitive, because we’re at the top level of our sport,” explains Max Sirena to HighSnobiety. “People underestimate the importance of footwear, but in reality, shoes are key, because you spend most of the time on your feet. When you’re sailing this type of boat and you’re going at 50 knots, to maneuver from one side to the other, you need good grip. The shoes need to be light, and they need to stay dry,” he continues. “We went through several sampling stages of the shoe. The most important part is the sole, for two reasons: for the grip, and because it needs to let water out. Our boats are like a washing machine.”

Sirena along with his team are extremely happy with the outcome. “This is probably one of the first times we perfectly reached what we were looking for in terms of performance gear. [A three-way collaboration] is not easy, because there is the fashion aspect, you need to sell the product, and for us, it’s a tool — to combine all those things is not an easy process, but I think we really nailed it this time,” Sirena muses.

Inspired by the iconic heritage of both brands and the aesthetic codes of the boat AC75 Luna Rossa, the silhouette of the A+P LUNA ROSSA 21 presents an upper of PRIMEGREEN, a series of recycled materials with a high performance, with an outer coating in E-Water-repellent TPU, an ergonomic EVA tongue, a specially designed quick lacing system and an inner cover in perforated synthetic suede.

The structure, resting on the perforated BOOST midsole and on an enveloping sole, enhances the typical performance of the sneakers offering the wearer greater freedom of movement. With careful attention to detail, each pair of A+P LUNA ROSSA 21 is proposed in a waterproof bag that perfectly contains the refined box with both brands.

The two colors of the summer sneakers for 2021 will be available worldwide from July 19 at the Prada boutiques, the adidas flagship stores, the websites prada.com and adidas.com. The black version will also be available from selected retailers.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if an iconic sports brand collaborated with an actual real live icon? Well, the result is orange, burgundy, white and inclusive.

The Ivy Park that has graced the Topshops around the world since 2016 was created to ‘support and inspire women’. You only have to hear the drums bashing out the introduction of ‘Run the World’ as you’re getting on the bus on your daily commute. The walk down the aisle to find a seat goes from an embarrassing fumble, as you bash your way down the aisle, apologising after clumsily stepping on someone’s foot, and knocking over another person’s bag… to you strutting down the catwalk in a parade of female empowerment. Because ‘Who runs the world?’ as Bey says herself; ‘Girls!’.

With the sexy curve-skimming A-symmetrical dress, high-leg bodysuits and practical sports bras, there is no denying the message of female empowerment is still deeply rooted in the collection. As Queen B herself reminds us in many of her songs, as females, it is vital we remember our past; Respect and be thankful for what those courageous women have done for us and our rights. We’ve gone from our sex meaning we are literal possessions, to our sex providing the world with Beyoncé, Michelle Obama, Kris Jenner, Britney…to name but a few! The collection celebrates this female empowerment in all its forms. The bootylicious bright orange cycling shorts paired with fierce sock-boot stilettos and a matching cropped vest that clings in all the right places celebrating our girly femininity. The baggy burgundy boiler suit with the orange Adidas stripes spilling down the front, tucked into boots, celebrating the more masculine side some of us have.

However, the collection’s significant number of gender-neutral designs is a refreshing type of feminism that we haven’t seen before. Bey explained,

“I focused on designing a unisex collection because I saw so many men in IVY PARK. The way they have embraced the brand is an unexpected gift”.

The athleisure collection includes oversized tracksuits, boiler suits, tops, jumpers and bags that are all made to appeal to both sexes. This is a bold move for the face of female empowerment. But perhaps this is less down to the actual issue of female empowerment and more down to the negative opinions of men that is something that has unfortunately become seemingly synonymous with feminism.

Beyoncé’s inclusion of non-gendered garments proves that you can empower women, and not exclude men from this empowerment; she hasn’t just given her brand a makeover, she’s given feminism a makeover. The empowerment of women should not mean the downfall of men, and Ivy Park donning the three stripes is a step towards this idea of equality fluidity; and Bey, we are so here for it.

When meeting Ancuta Sarca, the first thing you notice is the warmth of her polite yet spontaneous smile framed in the wilderness of her curly black hair. The second thing is her Eastern Europe accent, capaciously contaminated by a four-year permanence in London after graduating from the Art and Design university of Cluj Napoca, Romania. The third thing which really gets your attention is her passion and commitment towards sustainability and the closeness to her Romanian origins, which were both the starting points for building the collection she has just presented at the Fashion East designer space during London Fashion Week.

The result is a hybrid shoe, a centaur of high fashion that is half sportswear and half disused kitten heels.

The key items of her collection are her now-famous, somehow iconic, sportswear stilettos. This oxymoronic combination came to her mind while disassembling tons and tons of shoes in order to actually learn how to make them while she was still in school.

By combining Nike football shoes of the brightest red, green and blue with black and white kitten heels, the designer has stylishly produced a piece of fashion that perfectly translates today’s thirst for anything trash and shabby, whilst delivering a luxury, high fashion product.

These up-cycled shoes are entirely handcrafted by Ancuta herself, a factor that guarantees the best quality of this original product while keeping the footprint to a minimum.

The sustainability part behind her concept stands in her venture plumbing the depths of Ebay, going from several charity shops and vintage platforms to every forgotten corner of her friends’ closets to find abandoned trainers and kitten heels, with the aim of repurposing them. These up-cycled shoes are entirely handcrafted by Ancuta herself in her North London studio, a factor that guarantees the best quality of this original product while keeping the footprint left by her newly born eponymous label to a minimum.

“We are the first generation that starts to feel the effects of climate change, it’s a red flag moment but it’s never too late to make a change” – said Ancuta addressing the sustainability issue and why young people should take advantage from the momentum sustainability is having as a trend to start an actual movement.

Another factor that influenced her unusual and winning designing choice is definitely her Romanian origin, or better, her childhood: back in Soviet times and post-communist years, sportswear had much importance among people, so much that Adidas tracksuits became an authentic uniform for Soviet kids belonging to the underground culture of the time, and later mockingly renamed “gopniki” for their inclination of doing squats in the middle of the street.

“I remember when I was really young, on the first day of school all the kids would wear Adidas tracksuits: it was a really important thing to have a sports brand on you”.

With this in mind, Ancuta Sarca brought to the fashion system a forward-thinking, sustainable product that draws inspiration from history and gives new life to shunned pieces of clothing that lasted less than a season, reminding us all that there’s no future without knowing where we come from and that the past always shapes the present, often in an unconscious way.

Friday night saw the new gothic collaboration on full display at the Coach boutique on Prince Street. This is the third collaboration between Coach and Disney titled “A Dark Fairy Tale” a theme that offers a new dark and romantic twist.

Coach creative director Stuart Vevers said: “It was fun to explore the darker side of these stories and mix Disney’s nostalgic charm with Coach’s creativity to bring my memories from these fairy tales to life […] The Disney spirit truly reinforces the new youthful perspective we are bringing to luxury at Coach.”

To embrace the youthful feel of the collection and keeping on trend, sportswear is highly featured with embellished poisonous apples and skulls to be paired with bum bags and letterman jackets.
