It’s been 5 years since we met up with the R&B singer RAYE for a chat and she modelled for the cover of our 20th issue. The then 19-year-old from London had caught our eye with her features on the phenomenal singles Jonas Blues’ ‘By Your Side’ and Jax Jones’ ‘You Don’t know Me’ as well as her collaborations with Stormzy, Nas, and Charli XCX. She told us that her goal was to be number 1 in every single country and whilst she hasn’t quite managed that ambitious goal, yet she’s certainly skyrocketed since then.

She has now added some of the biggest stars to her list of collaborations such as Mabel, Zara Larsson, Sofia Carson, Tinashe, Madison Beer, Cheat Codes, Little Mix, David Guetta, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, David Guetta, and even Queen Bee herself.

At the end of last year, RAYE achieved her first number one single with ‘Escapism’ featuring American Rapper 070 Shake. The single topped the UK, Danish, and Irish charts and charted in the top ten in several other countries following its booming success on TikTok where a sped-up version of the track is still trending. Having sat on the charts for 17 weeks the UK can’t get enough of RAYE. It seems her dreams are coming true.

In February, the singer, whose birth name is Rachel Agatha Keen, released her much-anticipated debut studio album My 21st Century Blues. Along with ‘Escapism’ the album featured four other singles: ‘Hard Out Here’, ‘Black Mascara’, ‘The Thrill is Gone’, and ‘Ice Cream Man’. The album is RAYE’s first release as an independent artist having departed from her previous label Polydor Records in 2021. It was a hit with critics and the public alike receiving praise for its honest tackling of heavy subjects and debuted at number two on the UK album charts.

The sleazy teasy music video for ‘Escapism’ was released in November and now has over 48M views. In black lingerie, dripping with glitzy chains, and wearing long black chic gloves RAYE navigates heartbreak and anxiety numbing pain with unhealthy coping mechanisms in a distorted, red-lit club. It’s clear to see why the track has such a hold on the internet with RAYE’s straightforward honest attitude relatable to many girls who have turned partying to escape their problems instead of addressing them head on.  

On the second single from the album ‘Black Mascara’ RAYE hauntingly sings about being betrayed by her lover repeatedly chanting “done to me” against an upbeat rhythmic club beat. In an interview with DIY, the singer revealed the deeper meaning behind the track was an incident where she was spiked: “The overall theme is being a woman in this world and taking a step back to process all of the shit that’s actually been done to me, things that I’ve had to hide behind the scenes. I wrote that song specifically about a time when I got my drink spiked by a man I really liked. I trusted him”.

‘Ice Cream Man’ is a heart-breaking track on which RAYE bravely sings about the sexual assault she faced from a record producer earlier in her career. Despite the dark subject matter, RAYE shines through on the track as a powerful force with her strong and clear voice telling her fans “I’m a very very brave strong woman/ And I’ll be damned if I let a man ruin/How I walk, how I talk, how I do it”. The self-directed video for the track, released on 1st March, features raw vulnerability from the singer as she openly cries in a bathroom. The end of the video encourages anyone that has had similar experiences to speak up with the message “this evil has more power over us in the dark than it does in the light”.

The tenth track on the album ‘Body Dysmorphia’ is another courageous song on which RAYE offers solace to those who have struggled with their body image. She opens up on the track in the verses voicing her perpetual anxiety over the aspects of her body she doesn’t like but the chorus offers a way forward. She sings “I don’t really like my body/ But knowing it’s my only body/I should prolly call somebody” therefore encouraging listeners who have a similar experience to talk to someone about it. She also implicitly encourages listeners to check up on their friends in the line “Matter fact, I’m glad you callеd me” suggesting that reaching out could help relieve someone struggling alone.

My 21st Century Blues is a fitting title for the album. RAYE uses her platform to explore issues that many modern women struggle through with grace such as sexual assault, body dysmorphia, addiction, heartbreak, and anxiety over the state of our country and climate change, often juxtaposing her heavy lyrics with pounding beats. It’s an important record: a move forward towards pop albums that combine sonically pleasing tunes with lyrics that enlighten the world about some of the things that plague the minds of Gen Z. On the outro to the album RAYE personally thanks all her listeners as well as telling us she waited seven years for this moment – it’s a touching and triumphant for the artist.

RAYE is touring currently her My 21st Century Blues Tour which started in Amsterdam in February playing across the US and will be heading back to Europe in November. Festival goers will be delighted to see that she is featured on a hefty amount of line-ups this year including Glastonbury, Mad Cool fest, Parklife, Longitude, Indiepence Arts & Music Festival, Jugend fest, Findings, Lowlands, Connect, Sundown, and Superbloom.

Before rapping, he was a makeup artist for the hip-hop duo City Girls, and he has since come full circle, collaborating on ‘Shisha’ with them in 2021. His music career began when he realised the podcast he was producing with friends needed a theme song, and since then, the multi-talented star has been featured on the covers of Teen Vogue, Paper, and V Magazine, and been a guest on reality TV show Love & Hip Hop: Miami.

He has also collaborated with the queen of dance music, Madonna, remixing ‘Material Girl’ to ‘MATERIAL GWORRLLLLLLLL!’, made Forbes’ 30 under 30, supported Latto and Lizzo on tour, and performed at the VMA pre-show, BET Awards pre-show, and on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His catchy songs, empowering lyrics, and magnetic personality have attracted a huge fan base and co-signs from Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion.

His new song, ‘1-800-Bad-Bxtch’, detailing a series of failed phone calls, was released today, and we are listening on repeat! Like all his songs, it has a catchy beat, and the lyrics— “he can’t treat me like I’m average”— are too relatable. This song has the exact energy we try to emulate when getting ready for a night out, and we can just tell that it’s going to explode on TikTok— with huge glow-up transition potential. Not to mention Santana has a history of TikTok fame, with videos to ‘Material Girl’ receiving millions of views and ‘Walk’s’ ‘#WalkChallenge reaching 3.7B views.

We also couldn’t talk about this song without talking about the outfits! The music video is set in an office, one where he drinks cocktails while his coworkers twerk (jealous honestly)— we wish we looked this good at work.

Styled by Labels N Dollas, Santana pairs a black leather corset and suspended boots with a shirt and tie. Combined with bright orange acrylics, stacked diamond bracelets, oversized glasses, and an orange Hermès Birkin, this look is more runway than run-to-the-printer.

Saucy Santana is not one to shy away from a bold look, and loves a statement bag.

Water glistens and butterflies hover around two celestial mermaids in a tropical cove. No, it’s not a mirage. It’s the new video for the much-awaited Shygirl x Tinashe remix of ‘Heaven’.

Tinashe’s delicate vocals have made the already dreamy track from Shygirl even more whimsical. The remix of the song and the hazy music video both dropped on the 28th February with the track premiering on BBC Radio 1.

The video opens in a backroom of a restaurant as Tinashe wanders through wearing a puffy tulle dress and shades like an ultra-cool cloud. She sighs and sits down in a booth the close-up shot reveals dainty silver jewellery wrapped around her ears, neck, and lips giving a futuristic touch. Adding to the sci-fi feeling, Tinashe then whips out a glass phone and the messages show her sad expression is because she’s been stood up. Through Tinashe’s sparkly CGI tear, we’re transported to a y2k-esque mermaid’s paradise and the song begins. Shygirl shimmers and shimmies in a rocky bay wearing a skin-tight nude wet dress. A hologram Tinashe in a puffer jacket, similar to the one on the cover of Nymph, is cast on a hidden cave wall.

Both singers are wearing the dewiest make up with silvery blue glitter shadow on their lids. What really gives this video the throwback vibe is the quirky kitsch graphics. CGI butterflies, frogs, parrots, bubbles, and water droplets add a nostalgic touch with the graphics reminiscence of girl’s childhood toys. Emerging from the watery landscape aqua silhouettes of singers dance mesmerizingly to the track. Zooming through a picture frame we are back at the restaurant with Tinashe leaving looking disgruntled.

The track will be included on Shygirl’s deluxe album Nymph_o which will be out on the 14th April. It will feature reimagined versions of all our favourites from Nymph, one of our most cherished LPs of last year, as well as insane collabs with Björk, Tinashe, Arca, Sevdaliza, Fatima Al Qadiri, Erika de Casier, Eartheater and more cutting-edge artists.

Last month the DJ and producer sat down with one of her biggest influences and recent collaborator Bjork for AnOther magazine. The kindred spirits spoke about how they were introduced through the experimental producer Arca. The duo first met after Shygirl drunk text messaged the avant-garde artist praising her music, specifically the single ‘Hunter’ which her dad gifted her. This led to Shygirl showing Björk around Soho and taking her to a restaurant with sword-swallowers to dine with her producer Sega Bodega. Björk recalls: “I was thrilled because when I said, “Where’s the best place to go now?” you were like, “Let’s just go home and DJ for each other” – which always ends up being the best choice. It’s such a musician thing when you have had people playing music half of the evening and then you get a bit tipsy and bossyboots and want to control it, to listen to what you want.”

Shygirl is currently preparing to embark on the second leg of her Nymph tour where she will be performing 14 dates across Canada and America throughout March and April. 

‘Heaven’ is the first single that Tinashe has released since ‘New to You’ which featured Calvin Harris, Offset, and Normani. The Kentucky-born LA-based R&B singer is no stranger to collabs having worked with stars such as Iggy Azalea, A$AP Rocky, Young Thug, Future, Usher, Britney Spears, Charli XCX, Kaytranada, and Cheat Codes over her career. Since her last album was in 2021 we’re hoping that her sixth LP will be on its way soon.

]]> She’s all dolled up and ready to dance in the moonlight – it’s just the high feminine mystical energy that we’d expect from Kali Uchis.

The Grammy-winning American-Colombian superstar returns with another taste of her new album Red Moon In Venus dropping an opulent track overflowing with hedonist desires: ‘Moonlight’. Ultra-buttery, blissful, and smoky, on the bilingual single Kali romantically yearns to get high with her lover serenading us in Spanish and English. The single was released on the 24th February but fans heard a sneak peek of the track when it was teased by Kali on her TikTok account back in November. 

It’s the second single from Red Moon in Venus which will drift between soul, R&B, pop, and música urbana according to the singer. On the album “Love is the message,” Uchis explains, “Red Moon In Venus is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus. The moon and Venus work together to make key aspects of love and domestic life work well. This body of work represents all levels of love—releasing people with love, drawing love into your life and self-love. It’s believed by many astrologers that the blood moon can send your emotions into a spin, and that’s what I felt represented this body of work best”. Uchis reportedly went into the recording process intending to create an album that felt timeless, one that can be enjoyed any time and any place and will remain meaningful throughout the years to her and her fans. You can hear this fiery yet soft LP on 3rd March.

In an interview with Pitchfork Kali spilled that the 15-track album includes a couple of Spanish-language tracks, but that they are “conceptually and sonically” different from the songs on her next Spanish album she’s releasing later this year. “When I think of Red Moon in Venus, I think of being on a bike ride, or laying in the sun listening on my headphones,” she said. Her next album will be more upbeat exploring her “bitchier side” according to the artist. “Being multidimensional, there’s all these different sides of me that I need to show”.

The new track follows previous Red Moon In Venus offering the delicate and ethereal sad girl tune ‘I Wish You Roses’, which arrived alongside a dreamy rose-tinted video directed by Cho Gi-Seok.

Her US tour supported by RAYE starts in April and is already sold out – we’re hoping that UK and EU dates will be dropping close behind the release of the album. She’s also set to be playing a few festival dates this Summer including Coachella and Lollapalooza.

Raised between Virginia and Colombia, though it’s hard to believe now Kali Uchis was originally more interested in making films than being in the spotlight. Her 2012 debut mixtape Drunken Babble was praised for its genre-defying nature the singer having pulled influence from R&B, 50s doo-wop, and reggae. She caught widespread attention with her debut EP Por Vida in 2015, and even more fame followed with her 2018 debut album, Isolation. Uchis has collaborated and shared stages with SZA, Tyler the Creator, Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, Diplo, Major Lazer, Snoop Dogg, Kaytranada, Leon Bridges, and boyfriend Don Toliver. Last year, Uchis achieved more success winning three Billboard Latin Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and an American Music Award.

The video, directed by Torso Solutions and shot by Thibault Theodore, was filmed in Paris featuring recognisable backdrops and bustling city streets as Kali explored the glamorous capital and performed mad stunts.

Not short of success, the American singer has made a name for herself in the R&B genre, winning two Billboard Music Awards and an American Music Award as well as collaborating with the likes of SZA, Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, Diplo, Major Lazer, Snoop Dogg and Tyler, The Creator.

Whilst her Grammy-nominated 2020 album ‘Sin Miedo’ created the runaway hit ‘telepatía’ with more than two billion streams.

Styled by Georgia Pendlebury, Kali served fierce looks with her iconic long locks and outfits including a larger-than-life Barbie-pink gown, a curve-hugging white catsuit, a lacey satin slip dress and a statement-making faux fur coat as well as turning up the heat as she daringly bared all for the camera.

Through her honest and relatable lyrics, riela has become a voice for those of us who are going through turbulent relationships.

With another EP in the works, riela introduced us to this chapter through her latest single ‘lyu2’ with marcos g. The song is rich and melancholic, detailing the turning point in a relationship where you start to see changes in your partner’s behaviour. The lyrics are bittersweet, leaving you reminiscing the sting of unrequited love. Despite this, you can’t help but sway along to the infectious Latin American style beat and enjoy the velvet like vocals from both marcos and riela.

Voir spoke with riela to discuss her latest single, unique sound and love for men’s style.

Can you explain the backstory, and the inspiration behind your latest single ‘lyu2’?

I was talking to someone I really liked on the regular and out of nowhere he just stopped. Switched up on me completely. And when I went into the studio with marcos g we just happened to talk about it and he just said “you don’t hit me up like you used to” would be a cool line & it all went up from there.

How was collaborating with marcos g? The music video looks like so much fun!

Honestly, he is SO nice and just genuinely himself. As my mom would say “me cae súper bien” which basically means ‘I like him a lot/he’s super cool’. We actually were meant to get more shots at the skatepark but it started POURING out of nowhere and we did an impromptu car shoot.

Did growing up in Miami influence the direction of your music?

Absolutely. On one end, I was surrounded by such a deep-rooted Cuban culture within the city itself and on another end, I was listening to Power 96 where they’d play Usher, JLo, Ja Rule, Ashanti (and all my other favs).

Your music is very fluid, and seems to celebrate elements of the Latin Genre, yet using elements of R&B and Hip Hop. Is blending genres a goal for you or does it come about naturally?

Thank you 🙂 It’s something that came about naturally with my go-to producer Sebastian Torres. He was born and raised in Torreón, MX, but went to high school in the US so he also has such a wide range of influences. At least for me, I grew up speaking Spanglish. Everyone in my family blends the two because if a word is forgotten in either language, we use the other to replace what we’re trying to say.

It’s apparent that you’d prefer for your music not to be labelled as one specific genre or category, how would you best describe your style?

I would describe my style as “genre-fluid”, a term coined by my brother/creative director, Danny. At times it can feel like a musical identity crisis, but I think perfecting that fluidity will give me a lot of room to do whatever I want as I grow as an artist. Listeners can go back to the beginning of my career and be like oh okay yea she’s done this before it just sounds like a more evolved version of it.

Your lyricism is very honest and relatable, where does this honesty come from?

I tend to idealize things and kind of ignore reality in my personal life. So the way I face it is within my writing. I think with honesty comes empathy and understanding that’ll turn into relatability. I want my listeners to be like “Shit, I was in that SAME exact situation.” At the end of the day, we all go through similar things especially with intimate relationships because of how fickle people can be — just with tiny little differences.

Out of the songs you have released so far, which is the most special to you?

To me, “MOVE!” is the most special. I made it with Sebastian and one of my good friends/co-writers, Angela Rodriguez. It actually wasn’t really meant for me, it was meant for a pitch but never got picked up. The energy in the room and in the moment of recording was just so powerful and it translated. People really liked it and it meant a lot to me that it resonated with them while also showcasing musical growth since releasing my first project ‘tranquila y tropical’.

How do you find living in Los Angeles compared to Miami?

I actually JUST moved back to Miami and honestly, I miss LA A LOT. Of course, the grass is always greener where you water it and I’m just planting seeds here in Miami, so I’ve just gotta be patient with the changes. LA is faster-paced, but I’ve found, musically, people are a bit warmer with the personal side of things – a lot less interactional if that makes any sense.

When looking through your Instagram, there is a noticeable array of quirky hats! Do you have a favourite brand or style?

Honestly, I just love menswear. I’ve never been super feminine in my style. I’ll throw in a little I AM GIA to spice things up, but for the most part I love experimenting with androgynous style (I steal a lot of my brothers clothes lol) and adding fem details with makeup and accessories.

British singer and songwriter, Sasha Keable released her single today along with BRIT Award Winner Jorja Smith. The song ‘Killing Me’ is a door to intimate mournings and sadness that captures the emotional-gist of failed relationships. The video gets you all welled up as it churns out imageries connecting to the emotions stacked behind the song. The new single unfurls the symbolic denotations of red, white, and black costumes that represent a sensation of evolving sentiments. The song proceeds from two ‘perfectly-manicured’ hands bejeweled in chunky chic gold rings meeting each other to various other moods of the story. In the beginning, the darkness, or rather a sense of mourning behind the song is manoeuvred through everything black from satin blazers, latex gloves, to fur fringed hats, signalling at the death of a relationship. Soon, the song transcends into a sense of realisation and awakening with ‘I started to take my advice….now I’m not worried ’bout fights, symbolic of light and a sense of positivity that has entered through, birthed out the tragic.

The entire imagery is portrayed through a white ensemble paired with vibrant silver and gold pieces of jewelry. The duo can be seen donning Di Petsa’s famous Wetlook mini dress for this which drew a lot of attention in 2020. Maison Margiela was accused of plagiarising the ‘wet look’ design in his Fall/Winter 2020 Couture collection. Celebrities like FKA Twigs and Kylie Jenner since then have been responsible for jetting it off into global recognition. The ‘wet look’ has also been modeled and worn by various other celebs like Bella Hadid, Doja cat, Gigi Hadid, etc. During recurring moments in the video, Keable and Smith can also be seen dressed in red gowns respectively, the flares fluttering as if to represent ‘fuming with anger with an occasional rose-petal plucking throughout the video.

The new collaboration comes after her recent 2021 singles, “Exception” and  “Don’t Get Lost” and will feature alongside her upcoming EP Intermission at the end of the year.

“The song has healed me in more ways than you could ever know and now we are hoping that it can heal a few of you too.” said Keable in her Instagram post. The duo has a flair for  R&B which is neatly reflected through the single. Symbolisms and connotations aside, ‘Killing me’ is a reminder to pluck out those fleeting moments of sadness and love ourselves unconditionally.

Her forthcoming EP Heartbreak County focuses on Gia’s relationship to LA – from growing up in a traditional Persian household to entering the infamous LA party scene. ‘Enough of You’ introduced us to Gia’s vision for Heartbreak County. Lyrically, the track follows an addictive relationship with an ex synonymous with chasing the highs of LA life. Released today, ‘Oh My God’ is the second single from Heartbreak County, the song has a hypnotising melody which changes throughout the track, compared to the more chill pace of ‘Enough of You’. The track opens with Gia speaking in a slow drawl: ‘Oh My God’, before the beat quickens with punchy lyrics of religious imagery putting you in a trance-like state. Pop queen, Gia Wood’s new track ‘Oh My God’ (out today!) and EP Enough Of You (coming out October 8th) is definitely something you do not want to miss! Voir spoke to Gia to discuss her upcoming music, style inspiration, and her Los Angeles’ life.

Your new single, ‘Oh My God’, is out! Can you explain what the song is about and what inspired it?

‘Oh My God’ is about the overwhelming feeling of a toxic relationship, pictured through a religious imagery lens. It’s when you’re so committed and hopelessly in love with someone that no matter what they do you can’t seem to let go. It’s like your religion. They’re your world. There’s so many reasons to stay, yet so many reasons to leave. I think it’s incredibly hard to recognize those toxic patterns until you fully get out of that situation— and this song kind of explores the chaotic feeling of when you’re still really deep in it.

How did you first discover your passion for creating music?

Music has always been a part of me since I was a literal fetus haha. My mama always jokes that when I was in her belly I would dance and kick anywhere in public if music was playing. She always told me she knew I’d be a musician. And my cousin, who’s also a musician, owned a bunch of guitars and instruments when I was growing up.  I remember going into their room and immediately being drawn to the guitar. Since my dad knew how much I wanted to learn to play, he bought me my first guitar when I was around seven. I was constantly playing and writing in my room, basically everyday. Whether it was writing an original or learning a new cover, Green Day songs were my go-to, that was what I was doing all day everyday. It’s always been a part of me. And my number one passion!

What can we expect from your upcoming EP, ‘Heartbreak County’?

I hope to evoke that euphoric feeling of crying on the dance floor and screaming in your car while driving. The new project is about life in LA and all it’s fallen angels. This city looks like it’s all glitz and glam, but it’s dark sometimes too. And I’ve seen the dark effects that this city can have on people firsthand. Heartbreak County is all about how LA is filled with that heartbreak. I was born and raised in Los Angeles so I’ve seen a lot of people come here following their dreams and wanting to make it— but a lot of the time that unfortunately it isn’t the case. Being from here you see this city for what it really is.

Your first single, ‘Only A Girl’, has been an inspiration for many queer people. What made you release such an honest and emotional song as your first single?

It felt like the most authentic and genuine thing for me to do, not only as an artist, but just for myself. I wanted vulnerability and openness to set the tone as I introduced my music for the first time. It was my coming out to the world and my family, but also to myself. Even though I was aware of my sexuality, it felt even more real to put it out there and say it as loud and clear as possible. Sometimes you can be in denial because of the fear of what people will think of you. So putting that song out not only helped me blossom into the person I am today, but it gave me so much confidence to fully be myself.

What influences you and keeps you inspired to create music?

Honestly, everything and anything. All the music that I create comes from my experiences and what I’m going through. Music is my therapy. I always learn so much about myself and my life around me anytime I put it into a song. It’s like a journal entry. Sometimes I don’t even realize what’s happening until I write a song and look back to realize what I was trying to say to myself while writing it. It’s my growth to my higher self. I’m constantly inspired to create music for myself and hope that people can listen to it and take whatever they want from it.

How would you describe your current music style, and how does it compare to your earlier singles?

My music right now is very dance inspired which has always been something I wanted to explore. I grew up listening to a lot of dance music like Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and Daft Punk. I always knew I wanted to evolve into that sound but it wasn’t until this past year of exploring and trying new things that I really found the direction I want to head towards. Comparing my music now to my earlier singles, I feel like it’s still very me. My tone is so specific that no matter what sounds are supporting it, it’s no different.

What was it like being featured in Calvin Klein’s Pride collection campaign? Have you noticed more LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream media today, compared to when you were growing up?

It was such a surreal moment! A literal dream come true, I still get goosebumps thinking about it! What’s crazy is I feel like I manifested that into happening. I filmed a music video for one of my songs called “New Girlfriend” and the video was inspired by classic black and white Calvin Klein ads. I always loved their brand and clothing, and wanted to model for them one day. I still can’t believe it really happened! I do feel like I’ve noticed more LGBTQ representation in mainstream media, especially compared to when I was growing up. I actually don’t remember seeing anything at all when I was younger, especially because I grew up in a very old fashioned Persian household. So even if some representation was out there in the world, I wasn’t aware of it. But now because of social media, I do feel like there’s so much more for kids to see and there is more representation than ever. One thing I hope to see more of, though, is mega corporations not only supporting the community during a time like “pride month” but actually supporting our community and standing with us as a whole.

Los Angeles has been a massive inspiration for you, do you think there is a particular reason you keep returning to the city?

You know, honestly, I ask myself this everyday… I always complain about living here… but I still can’t seem to leave! I think it definitely has to do with familiarity. I have my family here, my best friends from high school here, and I like knowing where I am and where to go. I know the ins and outs of the city so well because it’s my home. Even though there’s a lot of moments where I get sick of it, I do realize that there’s so much beauty in the city as well. I’ll never get sick of driving on the PCH to Malibu whenever I want, and I’ll never get sick of going on beautiful hikes, and I definitely will never get sick of having my people here.

In terms of aesthetics and fashion, what influences your personal style?

Since my music took a shift and has become really dance focused, I wanted my fashion to be an extension of that. I’m so inspired by dance costumes, like bodysuits, headbands etc. I especially love the brand Fiorucci. They’re my muse. You’ll most likely see me in one of their bodysuits on stage or on Instagram haha.

Your music is genuine and honest, do you have any advice for your LGBTQ+ followers who are struggling to find that form of inner peace?

Everyone is living at their own pace and on their own path, but I think my biggest advice for anyone who is struggling is to know that you’re far from alone. There’s so many people and resources to reach out to. There’s absolutely nothing “wrong” with you, you’re absolutely perfect the way you are, no matter how you choose to define yourself and your sexuality.

Recently you performed at the Thrive With Pride concert and at Heaven. What is it like to be able to return to performing?

Oh my god, it was the most empowering feeling being able to perform in front of an audience again. Being on stage is what I was born to do and it gave me a sense of purpose again. For a second there, I definitely was getting really sad and depressed about not knowing when I’d be able to perform again. But being on that stage reminded me why I am doing what I’m doing and how much I love music. I can’t wait to continue playing more shows in the next couple months hehe!

Finally, what will we see in the future from Gia Woods – any collaborations, music videos or touring on your mind?

I’m so excited to be releasing ‘Heartbreak County‘ very soon and play many more live shows! I can’t wait to announce upcoming performances! So stay tuned hennis 😉

Olivia Rodrigo’s new music video is out and it’s ‘Brutal’! Yesterday 18 year-old singer dropped a new music video for her song ‘brutal’ which is one of the songs from her new album ‘Sour’ released back in May 2021.

‘Brutal’ music video directed by Petra Collins definitely gives 90’s and early 00’s vibes portraying Olivia in ‘Clueless’ inspired type of high school environment going through teenage – like emotions. She is shown as constantly disappointing others, getting into uncomfortable situations or acting angry and sad. The song has a lot of pop, alt – pop and more energetic punk rock details as well as outstanding lyrics ‘Ego crush is so severe God, it’s brutal out here’. As a part of ‘Sour’ album which creates an image of sadness, anger and unhappiness. The song ‘brutal’ is trying to express the feelings of being young while feeling upset and not good enough.   

Olivia Rodrigo is well-known as an actress on the Disney channel. Only recently Olivia started pursuing music with her debut song ‘Drivers Licence’ released back in January 2021. The single soon became very popular among youth on TikTok and topped US Billboard Hot 100 charts along with her other songs ‘Déjà vu’ and ‘Good 4 U’.
