Produced by WeOwnTheCity and co-created by Karol G, Pedro Artola, and Tiësto, the clip tells the love story of two girls (starring Karol G and Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko), who – in a nostalgic, bitter-sweet setting of the Noughties – try to fight for their love when facing hurdles. The song itself offers an irresistible mix of Latin beats, pop, and Tiësto dance music – we couldn’t imagine a better foreshadowing of the coming Spring and Summer festival season!

 The video will surely be a major inspo for those attending the festivals – with its warm, soft colours, pleasing sunlight, pink, glitter, and – last but not least – the iconic 2000s fashion. The clip makes you remember the good, old times of colourful, sequined crop tops, tattoo chokers everyone was obsessed with, jeans and camo mini dresses, butterfly hairclips, and shiny belts, much too bulky to serve a purpose other than aesthetic. It is mostly inside of an apartment reverberating with the Noughties vibes that we see the story of the two lovers unfold – them playing old-school video games, dancing in baggy, low-waist jeans, and taking photos with an instant camera. Every detail has been taken care of, as we see the couple wearing purely 2000s makeup – sparkly eyeshadows, glossy lips, and bright pink blush, accompanied by hairdos from the era – cute face-framing braids and pink highlights in Karol G’s creamy platinum blonde hair. The Noughties vibe gets even stronger once we see Karol G singing, leaning against a wall with colourful mappings on it – the associations of Rihanna’s 2011 “We Found Love” shots instantly come to mind.

Then, we move to a place even more reminiscent of the (as it turns out) bitter-sweet 2000s – a high school, having the atmosphere of Britney Spears’ iconic “Baby One More Time,” with a white-blue dominant colour palette, pink Converse, white shirts, bandanas, and baggy cargo trousers. It is at school (well, where else?…) that the problems in the up-until-that-point idyllic relationship arise, and the couple needs to split. They happily get to reunite in a 2000s club – with Tiësto as DJ, and his dance beats framing the whole clip and leading to a lived-happily-ever-after ending. It is in this final part that both the video’s couple and Karol G’s fans can carelessly immerse themselves in Tiësto’s uplifting music, inspired by Leona Lewis’ 2007 “Bleeding Love.” For Karol G, the love eventually stops bleeding, so that she’s ultimately able to sing firmly: “contigo” (“with you”) – and we can’t help singing along.

The freestyle from December last year marked Steff’s first time on GRM Daily and she left her mark with her sharp bars resulting in over a half million views on the video. In the new visual Steff gives us bad girl vibes in the first half with four supremely dressed versions of herself sitting around a poker table taking turns to spit rhymes into the swiftly revolving camera. She seamlessly switches up her flow on the sexy second verse telling us, “Badboys ain’t no good for me/But I love a badman, who can hold his piece/Yeah, I love a badman who can hold his streets/Yeah, I love a badman who can hold the sheets”. For this section, Steff serves body lying on a podium with a snake whilst brass three piece create a catchy beat.

Stephanie Victoria Allen, better known as Stefflon Don, was born in Birmingham but age five moved to the Netherlands and as a result is fluent in Dutch. The rapper has been singing and writing music since primary school and at the age of nine, she recorded a ‘Hard Knock Life’ hook for rapper U-Niq. At 14, she moved to London. Prior to fame, she worked as a cake decorator and hairdresser. Her 2017 single ‘Hurtin’ Me’ featuring French Montana caught the attention of the internet and peaked at number 7 on UK Singles Chart. Since then she’s worked with big names on the scene including KSI, Lil Yachty, Jax Jones, Demi Lovato, RAYE, Becky Hill, Charli XCX, and Little Mix.

Tyler, The Creator – ‘Dogtooth’

On the 17^th March, Tyler delighted fans by announcing on Twitter that he’d be releasing the deluxe version of his seventh studio album called CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale at the end of this month as well as dropping the single ‘Dogtooth’. Explaining in a tweet his reasoning for releasing the deluxe album two years after the original he said, “Call Me If You Get Lost was the first album I made with a lot of songs that didn’t make the final cut. Some of those songs I really love, and knew they would never see the light of day, so I’ve decided to put a few of them out”. He’d been teasing the track list on Instagram for a while before its announcement showcasing his very sharp dapper fits caught on Wes Anderson-esque film in the process. Tyler dances on top of a water tower, does doughnuts in his luxury car, and walks the hounds in the self-directed brightly saturated video for the track bubbling with the rapper’s unique sense of humour. With its sunny hip hop neo-soul sound the track is essential for spring.

Shygirl and Björk have several things in common – they’re both ground-breaking artists, they love to DJ, and they make unearthly music that unleashes our inner celestial spirits. The single was released on the 14^th March and will be part of Victoria’s EP Jaguar II the sequel to her EP from 2020 that will drop sometime later this year. In the steamy video, Victoria and Lucky time travel us back to the seventies with vintage magazines, smoky RVs, motorcycles, boxy televisions, and rich orange hues before they’re swept up in a hurricane. Monét serves the coolest monochrome brown retro looks including a chocolate satin co-ord, a hazelnut-coloured velvet dress, a tanned leather jacket, and rhinestone lingerie for her pole dancing finale.

Danny Brown x JPEGMafia – ‘Kingdom Hearts Key’

Danny and Peggy have spliced together 90s J pop, 70s funk, and WWE soundtracks to create the most heavenly and inspired track of the year so far. The track has a buoyant transcendental soundscape reminiscent of soothing anime and video games and fittingly takes its title from the video game series Kingdom Hearts. Though the song is gentle and lulling it’s given an edge by JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, and guest redveil’s superb verses. The song is just one of the fourteen tracks from the rappers’ collaborative album which dropped on the 24^th March and has received universal acclaim from critics.

Lana Del Rey – ‘Taco Truck x VB’

It’s finally here and we’re head over heels for it. Lana dropped her much anticipated ninth studio album on the 24^th March. It’s being dubbed as her magnum opus by critics and fans alike who are obsessed with the genre-bending amalgamation of the styles from her old records with a new trap infused sound. Whilst it was nearly impossible to choose just one track for our list out of the 16 stellar tracks we managed (you should go listen to the whole thing though).

The closer to Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is wonderfully all over the place ‘Taco Truck x VB’. The song starts with the nicotine-addicted Gen Z idol Lana crooning “Met my boyfriend down at the taco truck/Pass me my vape, I’m feelin’ sick, I need to take a puff”. The slow ballad takes off and the sweet singer warns “When I’m violent, it’s Carlito’s Way” as the groovy deep synths take over. The second half of the song then launches into a grimy unheard version of the 2018 single ‘Venice Beach’. Lana will be headlining The Other Stage at Glastonbury this summer so if you’re lucky enough to have tickets you may have a chance of seeing this song live!

Rosalía and Rauw – ‘BESO’

Thanks to the ultimate star couple we gained three hot new tracks in our playlist this week. Rosalía and Rauw’s collaborative EP RR, released on the 24^th March, gives us if Bonnie and Clyde were travel-obsessed vampire Reggaetón superstars and we’re very here for it. On the opening track ‘BESO’, R&R sing passionately to each other toasting their love over a tropical beat that brings to mind warm summer’s evenings. Congrats to the happy couple on their recent engagement!

yunè pinku – ‘Sports’

Malaysian producer and singer-songwriter yunè pinku has been on our radar since 2021 when her collaboration with Logic1000 blew us away. She continued to put out some of the best breakbeats tracks dropping her critically acclaimed debut EP Bluff last year. Earlier this year she announced she’ll be dropping her sophomore release Babylon on the 28^th April – a futuristic and kaleidoscopic six track-EP. Following the fantastic singles ‘Night Light’ and ‘Fai Fighter’, the meditative dancefloor essential ‘Sports’ was released on the 22^nd March. With an irresistibly cool deadpan delivery yunè sings “Lips, teeth, skip and touch/Don’t, I guess you’ve had enough” over a sinisterly infectious beat. “Sports is based loosely on an angry version of Lana Del Rey’s ‘Video Game’,” revealed the artist in a press release. “Mainly just the idea of someone putting a TV screen before the people they care about and their own life. I envisioned a sort of Wall-E-esque future people to the chair with a TV guide vibe”.

Flo x Missy Elliott – ‘Fly Girl’

A match made in heaven. Legendary hip hop star Miss Elliot teamed up with our favourite girl group for their insanely fun single ‘Fly Girl’ which was released on the 23^rd March. Featuring a reworked version of Missy’s hit track ‘Work’ well as a showstopping new verse from the rapper Flo have nailed the 2000s R&B vibe with help of Missy making the track an instant classic. The trio and Missy take over a bar in the video for the track radiating the best energy as they demonstrate why they are fly girls. For some dreamy fashion inspiration check out the video stat! 

Ellie Goulding – ‘By the End of the Night’

Ellie Goulding is renowned for her euphoria-filled dance hits. Her latest single ‘By the End of the Night’ is no different with the short but sweet synthpop banger perfect for a late-night dance party. The single is the second to be released from Ellie’s upcoming fifth studio album Higher than Heaven. If the singles are anything to go by we will be playing it on repeat when it comes out next month.

Rina Sawayama – ‘Eye for an Eye’

Rina gets vengeful on her track ‘Eye for an Eye’ written for the John Wick Chapter 4 soundtrack. The Japanese-British singer belts “I’ll see you in Hell on the other side” on this energetic guitar-driven single. Rina made her acting debut in the fourth instalment of this iconic franchise that was released earlier this month. Blast this song on your headphones and you’ll feel like the main character in your own action movie in no time, trust us.

Niia – ‘Idk what to tell my friends’

Let your sorrows melt away with Niia’s smooth new single ‘Idk what to tell my friends’. released on the 31^st March. The Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist teamed up with producer Jonathan Wilson who has previously worked with industry giants Angel Olsen and John Misty. This jazzy R&B track with soft vocals and humming guitars creates the daydreamy and tranquil Americana that we’re crazy for.

A dark, sleazy, brooding, yet magical aura permeates the music video shot in Tokyo directed by Samuel Ibrams, who often works with Shygirl creating the artwork for her last album Nymph. Dimly lit retro hotel rooms, glittery multicoloured LED lights, late-night karaoke sessions, adorable fawns, and nocturnal Tokyo alleyways are all caught on the smudgy shaky camera. At times the nauseating shots of unknown places from inside the body mixed with blinding white lights and dizzyingly fast cuts disorientate the viewer – thankfully we have the beautiful Shygirl and Björk’s vocals to guide us through this unsettling maze. The almost vampiric sensual Shygirl is totally captivating whether she’s staring into the camera emerging from a motel bathtub or receiving desperate kisses from lovers with a smirk on her face. Actor George Smale and model Nina Utashiro von Hahn get cosy with Shygirl playing her lucky prey in the video. 

In her verses, Björk shares her advice with Shygirl telling her, “I wish her love to you would suffice / But those bitches are not meant to satisfy” and warns her about lovers trying to steal her energy and the spotlight singing, “You’re glowing so hard / They all want to share the flight”.

Björk illuminated the meaning of her added verses in a press release writing, “Shy told me in her lyric she is talking about both different amorous interests and fame and how suddenly everyone wants something from you and you should be thrilled but you´re not and i decided to take an angle as an older ‘amour’ and give advice… because in ‘Woe’ she is asking a question and i decided to reply to it from the SUFI angle which is: enjoy the wanting and the longing and NOT getting what you want but enjoy wanting it… how the whirling dervishes reach up when they turn, it is meant to represent that longing and being content with that… also on a more everyday personal level it is about sometimes when you are not satisfied in a relationship, you should not expect your partner to heal that or fix that… rather look at him or her as a partner in crime or a fellow-not-getter… another human with that insatiable longing.”

Though Björk has reworked the song as a response to ‘Woe’ there are still glimmers of Shygirl’s original delicate vocals at the start of the track and weaved in between Björk’s new verse as well as residual touches of Sega Bodega’s production. Shygirl also demonically croons a new hair-raising bridge whilst alien-like noises crackle softly in the background.

The 90s Icelandic alt pop icon Björk released her tenth studio album Fossora last year. Taking listeners on a journey down a winding fungal-filled forest path, the album combined Björk’s distinct vocals and poetry with thumping electronica and sinister chamber music to create a very dark kind of fairytale. Björk in a rare collaborative move worked with Shygirl and her producer Sega Bodega to create a remix of the second single from the album ‘Ovule’ leading to this second collaboration between the two ground-breaking artists.

‘Woe (I See It From Your Side)’ is the third track to be released from Shygirl’s upcoming deluxe album Nymph_o which will be released on the 14^th April. Last month Shygirl gave us the dream collab by teaming up with R&B singer Tinashe for a dreamy new version of ‘Heaven’. Shygirl gave us a top tier dance track in December when she dropped the first track from the deluxe album ‘Poison (Club Shy remix)’. Prepare for more mystical reimagines of tracks from Shygirl’s album from last year Nymph from artists such as Arca, Eartheater, and Erica de Casier as well as some brand-new tracks.

Shygirl is currently on the second leg of her Nymph tour performing across the US and Canada until mid-April. She will also be performing at Wide Awake festival in London in May.

Always the innovator, the New York-based rapper has once again changed up their sound on the single swapping their pop-filled experimental rap for a snarling alt-electronica track that will delight former emo kids. ‘closure’ pairs a rough and ready guitar riff with pop-punk drumbeats to create an invigorating song that Avril Lavigne would approve of. Nokia keeps the lyrics simple singing “I wrote you this album for my closure” but it works as a catchy breakup anthem that provides catharsis for the listener. Could this lyric also be a hit that there’s a new album on the way?

Reminiscent of scenes from a Greg Araki film, the video for ‘closure’ recreates youth culture from the mid-00s with vivid snapshots of hedonic make outs and heartbroken meltdowns occurring in the club loos. The video was shot in the hot Brooklyn club Elsewhere, and like Steve Eichner’s iconic photos of NYC’s nightlife in the ’90s, it features a host of colourful characters getting up to various antics in graffitied stalls. Amid the chaos, Nokia glows as she hooks up with a guy in a cubical looking straight out of the indie sleaze scene in low-rise jeans, a studded bracelet and belt, a rosary necklace, and a bikini top. ‘closure’ was directed by Princess Nokia and the superbly named Robot MoonJuice, who has directed two of Nokia’s videos in the past as well as wrote songs for artist Baby Tate and Ashnikko.

The New York-born Puerto Rican MC, singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, and activist Destiny Nicole Frasqueri is a person of many talents with her fingers in every pie they can find.Last year she released the single ‘Diva’, which showcased her rapid flow and shoutouts Beyoncé and Aaliyah, as well as the attitude packed ‘No Effort’. They also hit the road for their first-ever US headlining tour including stops at iconic festivals Coachella, Gov Ball, and Lollapalooza.After collaborating with Celine’s iconic designer Hedi Slimane, Celine’s SS21 fashion show was set to her RIAA-certified gold single ‘I Like Him’. The song, as well as her collaboration with Ashnikko on ‘Slumber Party’ gained Nokia many new supporters after they boomed on TikTok.

As for their acting career, she performed on the new Gossip Girl and appeared in Kacey Musgraves’ short film star-crossed. She also made her second major acting role starring in 2022’s Daughter of the Sea, an award-winning film at the Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival.

The song is a beautiful ode to past love and the ability to wish them well, Kali shares “This song is about being able to release people with love”.

“It could be a friend, a lover, or someone else, but the point is to celebrate releasing people from your life without being resentful or bitter.”

Kali Uchis on ‘I Wish You Roses’

The release comes shortly after Kali was announced as a performer at Coachella this April, where she will take to the stage ahead of Rosalia and Bjork on the festival’s closing night.

The music video, directed by Cho Gi-Seok, is romantic and ethereal. The floral-inspired video has both a natural and fantastical feel to it as we see Kali both surrounded by and encompassing nature. It shows Kali lying in fields of roses, being rained on by petals and imitating flowers with her makeup looks. One thing to be noted about this music video, which is visually outstanding, is that the styling is impeccable. Kali Uchis is always doing something interesting with her style and we can always rely on her serve a look on every occasion, and this music video is no exception.

Let’s just start with the cover art for the single. This vibrant image features one of the looks from the music video for which Kali was painted by makeup artist Oh Seong Seok. The merging of Kali’s body paint with the projection of a rose accurately depicts the delicate nature of humanity, a theme that is particularly prominent in this song and through the music video’s styling.

The music video opens with some of the most intricately detailed beauty looks you can imagine, from orchid inspired lipstick to petals used as false eyelashes, the nature-inspired makeup looks were imaginative and captivating. The floral inspired vision was perfectly executed by makeup artist Ivan Núñez who utilised vibrant colours and a variety of textures, including jewels and that resembled drops of dew, to achieve the finished looks.

We are then transported to a field of roses where we find Kali lying amongst the petals and thorns in a custom mawar dress from Veldon Salim. This look yet again ties in with the theme of delicacy that is prominent throughout the music video. The fine fabric of the dress juxtaposes the thorns surrounding it, emphasising the beauty of fragility, while the romantic silhouette recentres one of the most delicate of human emotions, love.

Potentially the best look in the music video was the flamboyant red dress that was made from a structured mesh in order to replicate the shape of a rose. The star of this look is the delicate floral headpiece by Gabe Sin which frames the face with layers of vibrant red flowers. There was not a stone in this look left unturned with absolutely everything you can think of being considered and accounted for; the look even featured a vine-inspired detail wrapping around Kali’s legs as if they were the roots of a plant, a detail that truly speaks to how much thought has gone into these looks.

The video closes with Kali falling asleep in closing flower wearing a sparkling floral busier and short set. This brings a beautiful end to the floral themed outfits with a romantic and delicate look that emphasises the beauty in vulnerability that the song speaks of.
