Taking Wilshire Boulevard, L.A. by storm, the Academy Museum Gala celebrated Paul Mescal, Rita Moreno, and Quentin Tarantino for their service to film and creativity while celebs banded together in a sea of style that saw designers including Louis Vuitton, Mugler, and Alaia showcase their talent.

Selena Gomez

In a custom suede gown by Alaia, Selena flaunted her gorgeous curves in the figure-hugging silhouette, cinched at the waist. A black bodice peeks through the deep scooped neckline in a sexy addition to the look that complements the sapphire gown and black accessories.

Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo

The Wicked duo stood in solidarity in gowns emulating their respective characters, defying gravity, and expectations alike. Cynthia Erivo was giving Brat in her emerald Louis Vuitton gown adorned with jewels and beading that glistened in the spotlight. Ariana Grande, host of the evening, juxtaposed Cynthia’s modern gown in a custom Balmain dress based on an archival Balmain gown. This timeless monochromatic look oozed class and elegance with perfect polka dots and bows in traditional Glinda fashion.

Kim Kardashian

Unofficial leader of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kim stunned in vintage Mugler corset with drapes of ivory fabric cascading down her back and arms from her head. With diamonds adorning her neck, Kim has an effortlessly timeless, and almost Marylin, look that is the epitome of sophistication

Kendall & Kylie Jenner

The Jenner sisters showed their love in complementary looks that harmonised cut outs in a balanced composition of designs. The focal point on Kendall’s Schiaparelli gown drew the eyes to the top of the dress while Kylie’s vintage Mugler dress had a point of interest around her hips. These designs together expertly balanced the looks, allowing them to stand together as strongly as they stand alone, neither taking away from the other.

Davine Joy Randolph

Stunning Davine really was divine in gorgeous Louis Vuitton gown that emulated the contemporary and timeless in an expert marriage of past and present. The classic ballgown silhouette was tailored to the 21st century with the addition of scoping where the skirt meets the bodice, creating a soft movement instead of more traditional pleats. The think, structured bandeau design also roots the look in 2024, upgrading a classic off-the-shoulder look into a more visually complex cut. In the sea of daring celebs at the gala, we know Davine really was the belle of the ball in this look.

Laura Harrier

In gorgeous Ludovic De Saint Sernin design, Laura Harrier took on an almost dom look in black, studded dress. The cut outs along the skirt spiral downwards in an innovative look that other celebs at the gala didn’t risk, and for that reason we’re loving this design more and more. Worn without jewellery and natural glam to let the dress speak for itself, we’re seeing first-hand how the winter months really do inspire deep and bold looks.

Addison Rae

TikTok star turned actress and it-girl, Addison Rae, embraced her inner siren in stunning Alberta Ferretti gown that screams sexy. This cool-toned palette emulates gorgeous blue lagoons and casts the image of Addison being washed upon the shore in an effortlessly Aphrodite manner. The intricate lace and sheer detailing is almost lingerie-esque and the elegant blowout and simple makeup adds to the natural beauty and really shows us how exquisite natural beauty is.

Anna Sawai

Actress Anna Sawai also showcased Louis Vuitton in showstopping two piece. The ruched fabric in deep matte black took on a sheer quality due to the sewing technique, creating a complex characteristic to the shade as it reflects light and casts shadows. The one sleeve nods to a more traditional ballgown while the asymmetrical design creates a more modern intrigue, dragging Cinderella into

2024. The additional seam along the hip line creates a dropped waist look despite the midrise skirt placement, adding further detail to an oxymoronic, simple and complex look.

Winston Duke

Actor and producer Winston Duke really showed us how to upgrade a suit in a beautiful Etro design. The flowers add a pop of colour to the all-black look while the textured coat added further visual complexity without seeming garish or overbearing. Complemented with David Yurman jewellery, this look is classic, bold, and has a touch of the feminine; demonstrating that adding a few pattered elements can upgrade any tuxedo.

Jaden Smith

In another Louis Vuitton design, Jaden Smith has stayed true to his edgy, non- conforming roots in a crystal studded suit and statement shirt. The white undershirt has a high, ruched neckline in an almost old-fashioned, traditional look. The jacket sleeves, while hanging to the wrist, allow the arms to exit at the elbow in an innovative design that shows us what we can do with traditional look to upgrade them instead of sticking to the norm, embracing possibility. Paired with heeled boots and an array of rings, Jaden, like Winston, has embraced a touch of femininity in his look as he continues to challenge gender norms.

We have a combination of Harry Styles and Daisy Jones & The Six to thank for this one. 70s inspired fashion is set to take over this summer, and sunglasses play such an integral part in this look. Large square frames will, therefore, be a hit this summer. They are dramatic, glamorous and can elevate any look. Square sunglasses are the perfect accessory to add a retro-twist to your look but also act as a great statement piece to pair with less over-the-top outfits.

The fashion world is moving away from the tiny sunglasses that have been the staple it-girl eyewear for the past few years. Now we are opting for oversized frames. Sporty styling is going to be every cool girl’s go-to this summer. From Adidas Sambas to football t-shirts this look is going to be inescapable, and a pair of sporty sunglasses are the perfect way to complete this look. This style of frame has some pretty high-profile fans, including the likes of Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian, and it’s only going to get more popular as the sporty looks take over this summer. 

Oval Frames

Oval frames are the new rectangle frames. We all know the mid-sized rectangular frames that we have loved for the past couple of summers and this latest trend is similar to that style but offers a slight variation on the look. Instead of the harsher angles that the rectangular frames had to offer, these play with a rounded oval shape that ultimately offer a chicer yet softer look.

Colourful Frames

Colourful frames are key to dopamine-dressing this summer. This trend is a fun way to add a pop of colour to your outfit whilst not having it take over the look. This is set to be a key styling trend this summer as we move away from maximalism and towards a more minimalist approach, but still want to have statement pieces within our outfits.

Colourful Lenses

Colourful lenses have been popularised by the A-list favourite Lexxola Jordy frames and this trend is not going anywhere in 2023. Similar to the trend of wearing colourful frames, this is a subtle yet fun way to inject some colour into your outfits this summer. The best part of this trend is that you can choose how much of a statement you want to make with it; opting for a yellow or orange lens is a more subtle way to participate in this trend, whereas a blue or pink will really stand out.

]]> As the Oscars rolled out their brand-new champagne carpet, some of the most iconic stars arrived at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and absolutely bedazzled their fans with their classy, but glamorous, couture and style. Their designers and makeup artists had clearly outdone themselves this year. Every celebrity that stepped onto the carpet looked absolutely stunning, but here are our favourite makeup looks from the night.

Janelle Monae

It seems that “less is more” was the memo for the 2023 Oscars, as so many of the stars went for more understated looks – Monae being one of them. Wearing a simple, radiant base and some subtle contour, all attention was drawn to her eyes. She went for an extra bold cat eye with a cut crease, topped off with some silver inner-corner highlight and the most gorgeous lashes. Her thick sculpted brows complemented the look perfectly. So as not to take attention away from the eyes, Monae’s look was finished off with a light nude lip and some clear gloss.

Tems

Tems strutted onto the carpet flaunting a warm, bronzey base, perfectly contrasting her icy, silver fox-eye and a pouty ombre lip. The Nigerian singer sported a pair of the longest false lashes we’ve seen in a while, which matched the flamboyancy of her dress. The makeup gave her an elegant, sophisticated look.

Rihanna

Rihanna graced us all with her beauty at the Oscars this year. The singer proudly showed off her baby bump while still looking absolutely flawless. Sporting a blood-red lip and a subtle fox eye, Rihanna looked classy as ever. The lip colour choice complemented her skin beautifully and made her eyes pop even more than usual. Her skin looked effortlessly airbrushed – no doubt the work of Fenty.

Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai made an appearance at this year’s Academy Awards, parading a natural and youthful look. Although wearing an enchanting silver dress, her makeup was relatively simple. The 25-year-old activist was not afraid to let her stunning natural skin shine through on the carpet. The bright lip colour brought a splash of pink hue to the overall outfit.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga didn’t seem to want to join in on the natural, stripped-down makeup trend on the Oscars carpet this year (at least not until her jaw-dropping performance later that night). The singer went for a dramatic smokey eye, paired with a neon red lip and rosy cheeks. Her face was sculpted beautifully with a cool-toned contour and setting powder, resulting in a bright, mattified look.

The Oscar’s After Party saw Kendall Jenner wearing a light, rosy makeup look topped with a messy bun. The look gave her a natural, refined appearance. Jenner clearly went for a warmer vibe with her makeup, sporting some peachy blush and matching lip gloss with minimal eye makeup. These sorts of stripped-down looks dominated the Oscars red carpet this year.

Halle Bailey turned up looking like a real-life fairy. Bailey was absolutely beaming the whole time she was on the carpet, clearly excited to share the new teaser for The Little Mermaid. The 22- year-old actress was clearly going for a Disney-inspired look, wearing silver eyeshadow, a soft glam base and a nude lip. This doe-eyed look managed to turn quite a few heads on the carpet.

Florence Pugh’s sculpted yet supple look matched perfectly with the current trend on the red carpet this year. Pugh chose to go for a pink theme – giving the look a playful feel without diminishing its gracefulness. The actress sported a glowy, more radiant finish – a trend that is becoming more and more popular at the moment.

The colour choice added a sense of grunginess to the elegant look – seeming reminiscent of the early 90s grunge era as well.

While we were sleeping the most A-list of A-listers took to the champagne-carpet and partied the night away. And while we are very jealous of them, we were all winners last night because we got to wake up to some of the best red-carpet looks we have ever seen. 

Hunter Schafer

Hunter Schafer is one of the most daring dressers in Hollywood right now, and it always pays off. Wearing a bandeau that was (quite literally) as light as a feather and a silk maxi skirt to The Vanity Fair Oscar Party, she held onto her crown as the queen of avant-garde dressing. The look came courtesy of Ann Demeulemeester’s Fall 2023 collection, and it honestly looks like it was made for Hunter. 

Emily Ratajkowski 

Emily Ratajkowski is no stranger to the ‘naked dress’, from the Met Gala to running errands, Emily has proved that she can rock this look no matter the occasion. Last night was no different, wearing a shimmering sheer gown from Feben the model and author put a whole new spin on the look. Our favourite aspect of this look was the push and pull between what was on display and what was not, the contrast of the sheer material with the length of the dress, its high neck and gloved sleeves played with the notions of conservative or modest dressing.

Nobel Prize Laureate, Malala Yousafzai took to The Oscars red-carpet as an executive producer for Stranger at the Gate which was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film, just when you thought she couldn’t be any more inspirational. She wore a silver sequinned gown from Ralph Lauren and paired the glamorous look with a bold red lip. The best part of this look were the intricately placed crystals on the sleeve of the gown, highlighting the attention to detail that went into its design. 

Tems

Wearing a look from Ukrainian fashion house Lever Couture, Tems looked like the most high-fashion cloud you will ever see. The look defied gravity and looked so delicate yet structured. The way that the material flowed down through the skirt and up around Tems’ head gave an angelic feel to the look, as if the singer had just floated into the event on a cloud. Despite the ethereal nature of the look, it has caused some controversy. Fans took to Twitter to share their upset over the headpiece obstructing peoples view during the ceremony, but personally we would be honoured to have our view blocked by this look for a few hours. 

Simone Ashley

Bridgerton star, Simone Ashley, took to the Vanity Fair afterparty in a vibrant Nina Ricci look. The blue sequin gown cam courtesy of Harris Reed as the newest Creative Director for Nina Ricci and was full of his usual red-carpet flair. The look featured a dramatic slit up the skirt that had an oversized bow at the top that asymmetrically matched the one at the top of the gown’s one shoulder. We may know her as the Viscountess Bridgerton, but this look was pure modern Cinderella.

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner looked like an Oscar brought to life at last night’s afterparty. The model wore a gold archival look from Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2008 Spring/Summer collection. The look was paired with a casual up-do and minimal makeup to let the mermaid-inspired dress do the talking. 

Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe opted for a custom Vera Wang gown for this year’s Academy Awards, a look that featured a black velvet bustier and loosely draped orange skirt. This look stood out in a sea of more traditional gowns, which is one of the things that we love the most about Janelle Monáe’s red-carpet looks.

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh continued her immaculate partnership with Valentino for this year’s Oscars wearing one of the most dramatic looks of the night. Maison Valentino took to Instagram to share the look, describing it as “a beige taffeta draped dress, black cotton faille bows and a black stretch cady culotte”. But one thing we have to talk about is the hair; at the BAFTAs last month Miss Flo perfectly matched her spiky bun to the tulle ruffles of her Nina Ricci gown, a styling decision that was pure genius, and let me tell you, she’s done it again. For the Oscar’s Florence’s sleek up-do mimicked the billowing sleeves of her gown, perfectly tying the beauty look in with the outfit. 

Winnie Harlow

Winnie Harlow brought some fun to the Oscars last night with her neon yellow Giorigo Armani gown. While the silhouette was classic, the colour alone made the look standout. Featuring a crystal encrusted black flower on the left shoulder and a matching zip running just off-centre, the look capitalised on small details, making a look that was simple, yet intentional.

Halle Bailey

Halle Bailey proved that she is the people’s Ariel in a aqua-blue tulle gown at this year’s Oscars. The delicate ball-gown confirmed her status as a real-life Disney princess as the singer and actress was glowing down the red-carpet. This look just made us really excited for The Little Mermaid to come out in May.

Lady Gaga

2019 Oscar winner Lady Gaga took to the red-carpet last night and gave a surprise performance during the ceremony. While she may not have won Best Original Song this year, she definitely won on the red-carpet. Lady Gaga wore a Versace gown that was only presented on the runway last Thursday. The look featured a sheer bodice that connected to the dropped waistline of the A-line skirt in an exciting re-imagination of the classic ballgown. 

Rihanna

Rihanna is out here defending her crown as our best dressed celebrity in a custom Alaïa dress designed by Pieter Mulier. The look was unlike anything else we saw that night and made us so grateful to have Rihanna back on our red-carpets. The look was composed of a brown turtleneck with a leather bra and skirt layered over the top, something that does not sound red-carpet worthy but proves you wrong the instant that you see it.

Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne’s look honestly left us speechless, which is ok because the red Elie Saab ballgown really does speak for itself. Everything about it was perfect, from the dramatic bow on the shoulder to the way that the look draped around the waist into the voluptuous skirt, and don’t even get us started on the leg slit. At this rate, Cara will be reclaiming her position as fashion’s favourite it-girl very quickly. 

Jenny Slate

Actress Jenny Slate attended the 95th Academy Awards with co-star Marcel in a custom Thom Browne look. The strapless gown was perfectly accessorised with a micro-cropped blazer that really accentuated the hourglass silhouette that the dress’ bodice created. And while we’re on the topic, we have to say that for a shell Marcel was pretty well dressed too.

]]> From killer boots to futuristic clothing, Fidan Novruzova is the brand to keep your eye on this summer. Since launching in 2020, the label has become a cult favourite for A-listers including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Kourtney Kardashian.

It was Novruzova’s shoes in particular that went viral on the Internet, after being worn by a host of celebs, for their instantly recognisable square toes and creased front. Available in a range of shades, we can see why they’re every fashionista’s must-have.

The Central Saint Martins graduate was born to Azerbaijani parents and raised in Moldova. Novruzova told Vogue: “This is embarrassing, but my interest in fashion started from Blogspot. I remember being mesmerised by the supermodels of the time, as well – like Natasha Poly, Daria Werbowy and Abbey Lee – and then I just learned more about clothes through absorbing the internet.”

After completing her first year, the designer enrolled in the BA fashion and marketing program, with her final collection winning the L’Oréal Professional Young Talent Awards third runner-up prize. Afterward, she moved back to Moldova and launched her label, debuting her retro-futuristic AW21 collection.

“Anyone with an immigrant mum would agree – Princess Di is always the ultimate style icon, and it would’ve been a dream come true to see her wearing my clothes,” she told Vogue.

Clothing

Novruzova makes more than just shoes. The designer takes inspiration from past decades, such as the ‘20s and ‘80s, and adds sci-fi geometric twists to her clothing collections.

Bella Hadid

Bella looks cow-girl chic as she shows the black Havva boots are made for walking, styled with long-line shorts and a tank top.

FKA Twigs

FKA twigs looked fierce in a pair of black Fonda boots styled with a black mini dress for a British GQ cover story.

]]> Keeping Up With the Kardashians may have only been off air for a year, but the Kardashians are already back with a brand new reality show following on from the mammoth 20 seasons of their global hit. Aptly titled The Kardashians, the show follows the lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family with a specific focus on sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloé, their half-sisters Kendall and Kylie, their mum Kris, and the love interests of current and former Kardashian sisters, namely Travis Barker, Kanye West and Scott Disick.

Airing on Disney+ here in the UK, episode one premiered last week and whilst the show’s concept may seem virtually identical to its predecessor in terms of following the lives of the family, the main difference of The Kardashians is more in how the family share their lives. The filming style, for example, is much grander than KUWTK, with episode one opening up with sweeping drone footage travelling from sister to sister.

That’s not the only difference either, as the show is generally filmed more like a documentary than a reality show, with appropriate fourth wall breaking included (of course). Sometimes the show even feels like it’s mimicking The Office with the sisters looking directly into the camera and serving up some snarky and witty remarks, showing that they’ve lost none of their comic timing in their ten-month break from the air. The iconic confessionals of KUWTK are also back, however, this time around are sometimes filmed as the sisters are on the go in addition to the more traditional seated variants.

As for what the episode itself focused on though, it opened up with a grandiose barbeque at Kim’s house which brings all of the family together. This is a slightly different style of barbeque compared to the ones we’re used to though, featuring monochrome ball-pit slides, buffet trays made of the finest silver and clothes that aren’t typically seen as traditional barbeque wear… if that is even a thing. Make no mistake it is an undeniably Kardashian affair and is topped off with the family conspiring if Kylie’s baby is going to be a boy.

The other major plot point of the episode involves Kim getting ready for her hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live, sorting through bodysuits to decide which one she’s going to wear and deciding how she’s going to wear her hair on the night. There’s also some cheeky foreshadowing of her current partner Pete Davidson as Kim mentions how he helped calm her nerves about the hosting gig whilst they were at the Met Gala. Sweet stuff.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a show about the Kardashians if there wasn’t plenty of info about all the girls’ relationships and how they are getting on. Kourtney and Travis Barker are happily loved up and enjoying life in the early stages of their relationship, Kim and Kanye are in a, seemingly, good place but as we’ve seen with real-time events regarding their relationship over the past few months that isn’t going to last and it’s unclear if Kanye is going to appear on screen at all this time around, meanwhile Khloé and Tristan are co-parenting and attending Tristan’s therapy sessions which lead to the pair reminiscing on when Tristan cheated on Khloé when she was pregnant. A little awkward.

The episode crescendos with Kim on the phone with her lawyer as he explains that there’s a threat of additional sex tape footage of Kim from 20 years ago being leaked, not too dissimilar to how the very first episode of KUWTK ended all those years ago. The main difference this time around though is in Kim’s response to the matter, refusing to place any blame on herself and not being made to feel scandalous about the ordeal. The maturity and candidness in her response highlight just how much Kim has grown over the years since the original sex tape leak and showcase her taking control of her narrative rather than having a man try to control it instead. 

This lawsuit is bound to be one of the major plot points of the show over the coming episodes and with Kim having more power and status compared to all those years ago, as well as four children, things look set to play out very differently. We’ll just have to tune into the next episode to find out how!

After recently witnessing the soaring sales for her brand 818 Tequila, Jenner took to her Instagram post to announce her new partnership as FWRD’s Creative Director. Kendall has an experience of almost a decade on the fashion runway and now looks forward to shaping FWRD’s site direction and brand offering. Steeplechasing across various milestones as a celeb, supermodel, new generation icon, and entrepreneur, the KUWTK star describes this venture as a desire to rightfully channel her experience in the fashion industry.

“I grew up loving fashion and have been incredibly fortunate to work with some of the most brilliant people in this business. As FWRD’s Creative Director, I am excited to help curate the site’s offering with emerging designers and brands,” stated Jenner in her press release for the FWRD ‘21 fall campaign.

FWRD (or Forward), which is a part of REVOLVE group inc. boasts of ‘translating the traditional boutique into a singular online shopping experience’, amassing iconic designer labels like Stella McCartney, Manolo Blahnik to emerging brands like Haight, Jade Swim etc.

The e-tailer’s fall campaign teamed up with legendary photographer Glen Luchford and stylist Carlos Nazario to release a wholesome campaign named ‘L. A Baby’,  shot in the scenic surroundings of Los Angeles. It focuses on must-have  2021 fall looks, modelled by Jenner herself. The edits harbour Classic to Neutral looks from designers like Jacquemus, Saint Laurent, Max Mara etc. The silhouettes are a combination of trench coats, trousers, boots etc.
