We are all bored in the house and do not have anything to do, besides baking banana bread, doing home workouts, and watching everything Netflix has to offer. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and therefore it is the perfect occasion to get some outfit inspirations for the return to normal, for those ‘after quarantine’ looks quasi. And let us be honest, what better way to do so than by watching our favourite classics, it is like killing two birds with one stone – getting entertainment and inspirations.

Our one and only Miss Fine must not be missing here. I mean just think of it: was there even just one episode she did not slay in? We cannot think of one either. And since we are already talking about television, the 90s and some amazing fashion, we have to mention our girl Cher Horowitz. It is safe to say that there is much more to be added when it comes to the fashion of 90s television shows, but let us start with the ones mentioned above.

Whereas The Nanny dressed way more flamboyant, Cher always looked neat and young, however, both had amazingly coordinated outfits. Fran always wore some great matching sets in all sorts of colours, materials and prints. And they can totally be worn today. Actually, they are a big trend and something for every kind of taste and occasion: from business appropriate, to cool, chic and even comfy – latest since lockdown started, matching loungewear sets are a must in our wardrobes.

Matching sets will always make you look put together and effortless. They are so easy, just two pieces but they will instantly make you look expensive and chic, even if it is just a simple loungewear combo. Also, Cher had a preference for a matching attire, but also some of her other looks can be rocked today.

Blouses in Organza. They are light and sheer, girly yet sexy, and definitely way more fun than a normal cotton or silk blouse. They create volume and add that little extra to your outfit and they feel like a touch of nothing once put on which makes them perfect for the warmer months.

The face mask. The new ‘accessory’ we should all be investing in right now. Take your pick, online shops are heaving with them. Or, get creative- making sure you use the government guidelines on how to make a mask.

How to use your masks safely:

1). Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

2). Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.

3). Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

4). If your mask is disposable, replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.

5). To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); if disposable, discard immediately in a closed bin; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

6). Invest in a re-usable mask.

7). If your mask is re-usable always wash your mask at 60 degrees with a powder detergent after use.

From colour blocking to the monochromatic fashion of the outside now, we have the matching set trend of the indoors. As we go into an additional three weeks, it is time to recognise this as our new normal and get into this trend.

It’s about matching print and colour.

Another way you can create your own matching set is by pairing print with a similar solid colour. If you own a printed top or bottom and you would like to get into the trend how about you match that printed top or bottom with a similar coloured bottom. The trick to getting the look you have to make sure the colour in the top has to be an exact match to the bottom and the solid colour garment has to be simple with no print.

The last way you can create a matching set is to wear different garments of different material and fabric but the exact same colour. Although this is more into the monochrome fashion trend, it also resembles a matching set, and it makes it easier for you to join in.

Create your own matching set

If you do not want to purchase something new and you want to create a matching set of your own here is a way to do it. For sweats other than just matching the colour you can create a print on both sections of the sweatsuit by using tie-dye, but you have to be careful the print looks similar or continuous. You can also create an ombre effect by blending a colour into white using bleach, which may be a bit harder.

The humble tank top; the versatile sleeveless staple that can so effortlessly take us from the gym to the shops, to a night out (obviously with a wash and a few styling tweaks in-between- but you get the point!). In the current climate, shopping is now a distant happy, memory and nights out are the things of dreams.

Though many of the world’s dedicated lovers of fashion might currently be feeling slightly distraught; all this time to think about and plan outfits down to the very last detail – and literally NOWHERE to go. It shouldn’t stop us at least trying, even if it is only for a 20-minute chat with the head of the department. Which, at the minute, along with (if you’re feeling particularly extra) a boozy skype night with the girls, is the only thing we have to get vaguely somewhere close to dress for.

It seems almost pointless to don an outfit head to toe when from the waist down, you are invisible to those on the other end of the video call. Plus, no matter how much you live and breathe fashion, being at home for these extended periods of time, comfort is essential.

When it comes to my appearance, I am the human personification of the phrase ‘all or nothing’. I’m either going out, (to work, for drinks, to shop) done to the nines- full outfit meticulously planned, with hair that ties the whole look together, and face contoured and highlighted to high heaven. Or, I’m staying at home, only leaving the confinements of my house to pop to Tesco in a hoodie 12 sizes too big for me, hair in that scruffy half up half down bun that comes hand in hand with being at home, and more often than not (depending on whether my skin has decided to break out), the whole ‘minimal effort’ look is topped off with a charcoal face mask.

Whilst I may have just unnecessarily outed myself, as the rest of you read this sexily lounging on your chaise lounge in your silky robes, with glamorous rollers pinned over your heads sipping champers, I can almost guarantee, (based on the evidence I have gathered from friends and colleagues) that I am the reality for at least 80% of you.

I’ll be the first to admit it, this whole being at home 24/7 is a struggle for an ‘all or nothing’ girl like me. Whilst I can quite easily nail the ‘nothing’ side of me (-literally roll out of bed, et voilà!), the ‘all’ side of me is really suffering. As much as I enjoy piecing outfits together, putting a face of makeup on and doing my hair, I just feel unnatural, uncomfortable and slightly strange sitting at my desk in my bedroom in my heeled boots, skirt and shirt combo, with my face and hair looking like I’m ready to hit the club. However, Issues also arise when you have the daily skype meetings with your boss- the mad rush to scrub the mask off your face, brush your hair and swap your hoodie for a slightly smarter top, as you try and maintain the image that you are not falling apart.

Whilst you can’t change a leopard’s spots, and in normal circumstances, I would look at people who get dressed to sit at home in confusion and slight disgust, it is clear that these unprecedented times call for unprecedented action.
