In a show fit for the gods, Greek designers took to the stage in the 35th annual Athens Fashion Week in a showcase of true glamour and authenticity. As you know, Voir Fashion are always on the hunt for spectacular designers and international talent, and since taking to Athens ourselves, in true Hermes style we are here to tell you who’s on our radar. Staying at the enchanting Académias Hotel, Voir got all the behind-the-scenes access and front row footage of the glorious Greek designers, and with special guest John Richmond, our time was nothing less than celestial.

Daphne Valente

With extravagant pleating at its core, Daphne Valente has expertly displayed her methodical craftsmanship and elegant eye through her show at Athens Fashion Week, dotted with pieces from her AW24 collection among with many new elaborate additions in a melting pot of luxury.

Daphne describes her brand as synonymous with timeless sophistication and refined elegance, along with meticulous attention to detail which shone through in her sculptural pieces and accessories. Hues of haunting magenta, deep burgundy and a collage of earthy greens pierced our senses and made up the collection, with nearly all designs focusing on the classic pleat, Daphne is here to remind us that she did it first!
The devil is in the details, and Daphne knows this all too well. The intricate styling included spiked hairstyles, married perfectly with the pleating, and demure accessories as to not take away from the main aspect on show.

Vassilis Zoulias

Vassilis Zoulias was THE show of the week to talk about at Athens Fashion Week. Held at the iconic Four Seasons Athens, the location speaks for itself as the audience watched a show backdropped with the exquisite Greek scenery. Zoulias’ designs eagerly complimented the location with luminous summer tones capturing both the ethereal and sensual essence of travelling to Greece. And with endless, deep blue tones in the garments creating a lively river running down the runway, none could escape Poseidon’s charm.

Zoulias indulged us in a vast variety of pieces. Every occasion was catered for in his collection ranging from draping maxi dresses, sensuous swimwear, and striking blazer co-ords. Much akin to all Greek fashion powerhouses worthy of a place at Fashion Week, the brand prides itself on craftsmanship and tapestry that would rival Arachne herself, and what Zoulias delivered was nothing short of mesmerising.

Parthenis

The Parthenis show entitled “metamorphoses” delighted audiences with their hooded ensemble of transformative designs all perfectly complimenting eachother. The collection redefines everyday essentials with their fresh, iconic designs, relaxed silhouettes, and harmonious tones that guide us on a journey from dark to light in a modern Promethean gift. Reflecting the evolving identities of those who wear it, the relaxed-fit clothing came in a variety of muted earthy hues and intertwined an almost futuristic vibe mixed with a charming, medieval aesthetic in a true homage to the Greek mythology we all know and love.

Hailing from Athens itself, Parthenis pride themselves on having a timeless look with an easy living feel as they capture the elegant Greek aesthetic. In a light and airy runway, a new take on bohemian was achieved, giving it a simplistic, Greek touch.

Dassios

Dassios struck the runway with a truly thunderous collection, showcasing work filled with gothic tropes and dark motifs. Regal velvets, haunting burgundies and blood-stained wine tones redefined god-like while complementary deep pinks peppered the show in pops of jewels.

With his career originating in the costume jewellery world, Dimitris Dassios made sure to incorporate that as the focal point of the collection as the audience beheld grandiose pendants and extravagant jewels draped across models. Dassios also adorned models’ faces with a fishnet veil, creating a sense of mystery to the collection, giving him a unique angle in his show. Along with a focus on jewellery and smudged makeup; this creates a strong point of blurred identity in his work. By anonymising models’ faces, we are able to inject ourselves into the show and denote a personal effect to the collection.

John Richmond

Honoured guest designer, John Richmond, reintroduced 90s grunge into our lives in his rock n’ roll SS25 collection. The sartorial pieces, mainly in dark colours, illustrated a punk aesthetic with a mixture of garments including grungy tracksuits, preppy leather shorts, distressed jeans, and statement accessories adorned with sparking silver finishes. However, elegance was also apparent in his collection and highlighted and deepened the motifs by contrast. This duality that argues and celebrates creates an effortlessly complex image on the runway, showing us all why he is the guest of honour this year.

The English-born designer, clearly well-versed in showbusiness, illuminated the runway as lights flashed over an industrial style catwalk, capturing the essence of his style as he introduced Greece to his vision.

AFW was once again a glorious event for fashion in Greece. From charitable sponsors Georg Jensen, Académias Hotel Autograph Collection and Colgate, AFW is setting a strong and unwavering foundation for establishing a long- lasting relationship between Greek and international fashion industries. Diesel Launch Mystery

Being released on the 8th of October 2024 is collab of the year, Savage X Diesel. Teased on Instagram three days ago, this collaboration between two fashion favourites is set to dominate October.
From sneak peak at the design stage on Instagram, these new looks combine sexy and fun, allowing loungewear to be redefined in these new designs. Stepping into the archives that inspired the new collection are iconic old school Diesel pieces that showcase denim, rips, mesh, and acid wash in an ode to the 90s.

These blue and denim edits can be seen in essence in the new Savage X collection with the first design appearing to have a light washed blue material.

Karoline Vitto

Known for celebrating the natural female form in the most thoughtful way possible, Karoline Vitto has continued to celebrate curves and accentuate folds in her LWF show. While some designers dress plus size models as an afterthought, Karoline Vitto has always had curvy queens at the heart of her label, designing clothes to empower every woman and every body type as a rebellion to the restrictive beauty standards of ‘90s Brazil, where she grew up. Placing the body at the centre of the design process, these SS25 designs for LFW are bold, unforgettable, and unapologetic in their celebration of curvy and plus size models, really showcasing how beautiful their runway is.

Encapsulating an earth tone palette with pops of pink and red scattered throughout, what sets Karoline Vitto apart is the ambitious cut-outs in the pieces, utilising the body itself as an integral piece of the design. Often seen accompanying the cut outs are pops of silver wiring, highlighting and drawing attention to the skin, daring you to look away, and knowing you can’t.

Influencer and plus size model Felicity Hayward has also expressed her love for Karoline Vitto this LFW, seen wearing a gifted dress by the designer to attend the show, and taking to Instagram to express how emotional she is to see

the front row full of plus size guests, explaining ‘do you know how important this is for us?’ and thanking Karoline Vitto for ‘making [her] feel seen’.

Chet Lo

With ambitious texture at its core, Chet Lo has again been showcasing his extensive knitwear knowledge through his SS25 show at LFW. The 3D textured spikes in knitted fabrics take centre-stage in a grey-scale colour palette accompanied by pops of blue, teal, and duck egg in a perfect homage to a pastel spring season in 2025.

But the fashion isn’t all we’re praising Chet Lo for this September, with the designer revolutionising fashion shows for the blind and visually impaired. Previously, visually impaired fashion fans have been an afterthought with runways being such a visual expereince. But working with non-profit Hair & Care, an organisation supporting visually impaired women care for their hair, Chet Lo was able to develop a third runway show, featuring a prerecorded audio description of the garments along with a tactile tour of the collection 30 minutes prior to the show commencing, to allow guests to take in and digest the information before providing textured fabric swatches to experience during the show. 20 blind / visually impaired guests were invited to the show and expressed their love and gratitude to Chet Lo for this unforgettable experience. Having always been very inclusive with the casting, Chet Lo explained that the show “felt like a natural extension to that”.

HARRI

Breaking the mould both socially and literally is HARRI with bold new silhouettes in their signature black latex stealing the show at LFW. The bold dom style is all about expressing innovative takes on structure and form, creating a visually explorative catwalk seeking to revolutionise conventional body shape in a celebration of the weird and wonderful. Awarded the Practical

Intelligent Genius Foundation prize, the Indian born artist behind the label has once again showed that style knows no bounds in the SS25 show.

From Harri’s passion for bodybuilding his experimental take on form takes shape and illustrates how one’s form should be highlighted and accentuated as a pledge to non-conformity.

Nensi Dojaka

Bringing sexy back is the exceptional Nensi Dojaka, who has been perfecting her craft since the label’s debut in 2019, with her LFW SS25 catwalk. Specialising in intricate strap work and use of sheer fabrics, pieces expertly portray how lingerie washed in luxury can empower the wearer and expertly showcase the feminine form. In a balance of strength and delicacy, the runway was hot with nude tones, earthy burgundies, and subtle pinks to celebrate nudity in their collaboration with design powerhouse, Calvin Klein. Dojaka’s signature juxtaposition of delicate fabrics, muted colours, and daring silhouettes can be seen on their runway this fashion week

Nensi Dojaka’s background in architecture is more apparent than ever in her designs this week through the use of geometric strap work, casting shapes and shadows across chest and torso in a labyrinth of sensuality. Dojaka has also been outspoken in her advocacy for inclusion, with “the idea of putting [the pieces] on women of different backgrounds and different shapes” being imperative to decision making, and the image of the campaign.

Di Petsa

Aphrodite was born of the seafoam, rising out of the water on the shore of Cyprus, and Greek designer Dimitra Petsa knows the birth of beauty herself all too well. In the bold exploration of an ecofeminist relationship between women and water, design powerhouse Di Petsa has shown London what it means to live on Olympus this LFW. The brand’s ethos is the careful combination of

traditional craftsmanship, sustainable textile development, and drapery techniques with performance, art, and film to build timeless, ethereal pieces that last the test of time.

Their SS25 collection, showed at LFW, takes their signature mermaid- esque look and combines it with a warmer colour palette to move their siren aesthetic toward a more goddess-centred look. Focusing on experimental cut- outs, gold accessories, warm tones, and denim Di Petsa are making waves with their new terrain while staying true to their wet roots and fluid fabric.

Stealing the show was influencer and plus size male model, James Corbin, who beautifully debuted Di Petsa’s male wear collection. Looking as though he rose from the sea foam himself, Corbin was draped in Di Petsa’s signature Wetlook fabric, coloured in a warm blend of orange, pink, and maroon tones exquisitely complimenting his rich skin tone. While runways have taken amazing strides in body inclusivity for women, plus size male models are unfortunately still a rarity, but there is no one better to lead the movement than James Corbin who so expertly took to the catwalk and walked for men everywhere.

Masha Popova

In their SS25 collection, Impulse, grunge experts Masha Popova have expertly combined sensuality with playful draping in an oxymoronic collection that is both elegant and care-free. Ukrainian designer Popova has fused fantasy with her Ukrainian roots in an homage to her childhood memories in a collage of modern high fashion and raw energy of the ‘90s and early 2000s. The SS25 collection was a masterclass in denim, tie-dye, and acid wash, using her signature faded denim textile and complementary muted colours in a beautifully retro aesthetic.

Sinead Gorey

School is in session, and we’re all invited to the LFW school disco which quickly became the talk of the cafeteria. In a runway situated in a sports hall lined with streamers and balloons, the class of SS25 graced the runway in pastels, stripes, and high tops in an aesthetic that can only be described as where preppy meets grunge. Inspired by party culture, Gorey shares her love for bold prints, extreme cutouts, and youthful colours in a rave aesthetic that reminds the audience that fashion is supposed to be fun! Her use of plaid, stripes, and laces are also reminiscent of our school days in a style that Avril Levine herself would be proud of.

And like so many others this LFW, Sinead Gorey understands the importance of body inclusion and has incorporated many body shapes and sizes into her runway. Remining the audience that there is no ‘one size fits all’ in creativity, we have all been invited to don our Converse and spike the punch bowl next spring / summer.

Completedworks

In a piece eloquently titled ‘A Stone is a Small Mountain’, Completedworks’ SS25 jewellery collection took centre stage in their runway that brought a timeless essence to a melancholy beauty. A tortured ballerina draped in pearls is the archetype for their collection, taking inspiration from hope for a better future in their mission for sustainability and responsibly sourced materials. This gothic coquette look is effortlessly Tim Burton meets Black Swan in a stunning exploration of form, with pieces that weave, flow, loop, twist, and expand in a bid to “explore the questions of the human condition, history, politics, language, and art”.

Tolu Coker

In her new collection for SS25, LFW has been teleported back to the ‘70s in a sentimental ode to her mother, Olapeju Coker. The name Olapeju means ‘wealth

gathers’ and Tolu Coker has taken this meaning to heart in her expression of the wealth of community and culture through her sustainable, luxury fashion. With the show space being transformed into her late father’s living room adorned with photographs of proud black women posing in puff sleeves and sculptured head wraps, Coker expresses her British-Nigerian heritage in her collection rooted in community, craftsmanship, and culture.

Founded in 2021, this label has always had powerful black women at its’ heart and has continued this legacy in LFW, casting black models in a beautiful runway carrying a notable ‘70s aesthetic through earth tones and vintage designs. The pops of vibrant green throughout the show add a pinch of the contemporary to the collection while paying homage to the Nigerian flag.

Mains London

At the forefront of the grime-scene is rapper, producer, and filmmaker, Skepta’s fashion venture Mains London. In a distinctive style he calls ‘hood luxury’, Skepta is taking on a new vibe for SS25 in an ‘Ivy League’ look that adds a preppy aesthetic to the primarily sportwear designs. Seen on their runway is shiny textures and fabrics this September, utilising leathers and latex to add this note to the looks which perfectly accompanies the ‘old money’ sense being portrayed. Hints of baggy and oversized silhouettes, which are very apparent in current runways and collections, have been spotted but in a subtle way, effortlessly adding to the nonchalant ease of the collection. Showcasing an all- American colour palette of red, white, blue, and beige, Mains London has managed to keep in tone with its’ sporty and streetwise essence through styling boxing shorts and trainers but has managed to move into a sophisticated and studious aesthetic in a natural way that makes sense for the brand.

KNWLS

Brains behind KNWLS, Charlotte Knowles, has showcased her SS25 collection, Haze, in an expert blend of femininity with a rebellious edge. The use of leather, floating fabrics, and barely-there mesh in a kaleidoscope of earth tones on her runway give a fierce and bold take on classically feminine silhouettes, fabrics, and patterns. Known for her acid wash finish on leather, Knowles has managed to encompass the bold and the demure in her looks, utilising soft pastel greens to soften the shiny leather fabric. The sheer, mesh fabric has been used for blocking in some pieces to create geometric designs while tassels, laces, and ribbons have become an overarching motif to her collection, adding a unique and distinctive movement to her pieces.

Richard Quinn

Effortlessly chic Richard Quinn has graced LFW in an SS25 runway that is as timeless and elegant as ever. Bold and emotive garments in striking black and white fabrics littered with 3D motifs to further enhance their iconic old money aesthetic have been showcased, highlighting Quinn’s meticulous attention to detail. Feathers, flowers, and 3D fabrics have redefined high fashion sensibility with a couture-inspired edge adding explorative texture to a black-tie dress code, while exaggerated, oversized silhouettes add a contemporary, modern flair to the collection. The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design recipient has stayed true to their signature florals, evening silhouettes, and statement outerwear in this collection, combining enviable handcrafted skill with innovative fabrications in a truly iconic statement.

Natasha Zinko

Pioneer in the gender fluidity of fashion is designer Natasha Zinko, whose emphasis on sustainable, recycles materials, and open approach to ‘gendered’ clothing has redefined ‘unisex’. Unisex in fashion typically translates to the absence of gender in a garment, but in Zinko’s LFW collection, she has kept the

essence of typical feminine and masculine clothing in her unisex clothing, creating accessible pieces for all genders to explore without losing this essence that is so intrinsically linked to identity and expression.

In a collage of daring cutouts, floral prints, denim, and leather, the SS25 collection most notably features the innovative use of safety pins both in cut- outs and in the absence of fabric. Giving a new identity to recycled materials, this is perhaps the most ambitious definition of recycled material, but reward definitely comes with this risk as no one can take their eyes off of these pieces perfectly encompassing delicate and robust.

Mark Fast

Mark Fast’s Winter Ocean collection is stunning; the highlight of the show definitely lies within the mermaid inspired pieces where the overriding focus is located within the lower half of the body. A standout piece within the collection is the crochet knit halter neck top, connected to a green sequined skirt, hugging the body beautifully. This gorgeous silhouette is outlined and emphasised with tassels. The sequins reflect the light, resembling a glistening ocean and the tassels emulate a swirling and crashing of waves, placing an emphasis on the importance of motion whilst exhibiting the dresses. As the models walk, the movement of the clothes possess elegance and grace, the epitome of a Winter Ocean. 16Arlington’s AW21 collection is similar to Mark Fast’s pieces regarding the material use of feathers. This light and full of motion embellishment bring the outfits to life, gifting them movement of their own.

Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood AW21/22 collection offers a quintessential British feel. This is fulfilled through woollen fabric, tartans and plaid prints incorporated within the collection. They are classic staple pieces yet styled in a modern, alternative way. The aim is to ‘redesign new silhouettes with classic pieces.’ This is achieved through the inclusion of boldly coloured Argyle inspired socks, highlighted in several looks. Rich colours and thick textures are used, such as contrast plaid trousers paired with a balloon sleeve velvet shirt. Vivienne Westwood perfectly executes a revamped yet classic, autumn/winter wardrobe. Another theme emerging within the collection is the influence of the Wallace Collections’, ‘Daphnis and Chloe.’ Painted by Rococo artist, François Boucher, this artwork has been transformed into a print establishing a light, dreamy, pastel vision; a contrast to the deep coloured woollen blends. An important and attractive element within the collection is the contribution to sustainable fashion; over 90% of this collection contains environmentally friendly materials such as recycled demin, innovative eco-printing systems and forest positive viscose. It is important to acknowledge this move towards environmentally friendly high fashion. It should inspire and encourage other designers to unite towards the cohesive goal of sustainability.

Molly Goddard

Alike Vivienne Westwood, Molly Goddard’s AW21 collection emphasised tartan print and Argyle inspired high-sock, suggesting a potential trend for AW21. In addition to Goddard’s SS21 collection, the beautiful tulle dresses make an autumn/winter appearance; the tulle effect is mirrored within Goddard’s shoulder bags, accessorised throughout the looks. Rich red tones are styled to heighten drama, especially in the tulle pieces. Goddard has presented bold but wearable, unisex knitwear. The patterns are busy; yet designed to layer between other printed/statement designs. These individual items portray a more casual, accessible look, easily incorporated into any wardrobe.

Vinti Andrews

Vinti Andrews’ fashion film, Town & Country, transports the audience into Croyde, a typical English seaside village aesthetic. The label prides themselves on self-expression and rebellion. This is clear within the fashion film, regarding the choice to reject beach town connotations of sunshine and laughter. They approach the cinematography with dull lighting and grey weather, it is distinctive and memorable in which there is no attempt to sugar coat the U.K’s Autumn/Winter climate. The model is rocking zombie-esque make-up whilst constantly roaming, creating an eerie sensation. Throughout the collection long, oversized clothing, such as shirts, dresses and jackets are often paired with pale coloured tights. The main theme is loose clothing, excess material, drapery and layering.

The Art School London

The Art School London AW21 show, Ascension, is a theatrical performance. The models emerge from darkness and smoke, they strut their looks of minimal colours, black, white and deep reds. Appearing in slow motion, they resemble ultimate power and authority. This strong stance reflects their refreshing and slick genderless label supporting Art School’s core values. The diversity of gender, age, race and body type throughout the choice of models is revitalising. Art School really exaggerates the universality of their clothing, nailing this rejection of masculine and feminine, all the looks are attractive and appealing to anyone, opening boundaries and maximising inclusivity.

Marques’Almeida’s film released for London Fashion Week is in collaboration with singer and rapper, Nenny. M’A x Nenny displays Marques’Almeida’s AW21 collection, whilst Nenny performs and explores the meaning behind her music. The final song within the film is a new single, Tequila. This is an empowering performance due to the overwhelming sense of self-confidence and self-love. Nenny presents herself wearing clothes, which embody the colours of her countries, Cape Verde and Portugal. Nenny is proud to show her art to the world and felt this was wholly supported through wearing the Marques’Ameida collection. She claims the clothes make her feel comfortable and happy; they encourage her to embrace her true self. This feeling of confidence associated with self-expression supports the idea that Marques’Almeida promoting respectable notions of individuality, espousing diversity.

Libertine

Screen printing, bold graphics, embellishment, and embroidery have always been part of Libertine’s otherworldly, whimsical designs since its launch in 2001. 20 years later, Johnson Hartig’s Libertine Fall 2021 collection commemorated the anniversary in a subtle yet poignant manner, by designing a fringe for items that was comprised of Libertine’s past labels. The symmetrical presence in the collection is neatly displayed in the off-white to beige blazer and pants piece, on which a silhouette of a wild garden entwines itself. Robert Burns’ supernatural and religious-themed poem, A Winter Night, was emblazoned across trench coats, the context of which underscored the magical and fantastical often brightly coloured collection. 

A. Potts

Aaron Potts’ collection ranged from yellow, grey, and black hues, ever simple yet captivating. The collection’s shapes and forms were beautifully designed with movement in mind. The contemporary poses and movements made by the model in the yellow draping poncho cape allowed the audience to be drawn in by the stirring of the fabrics and the way they caught the light, which was notable with the metallic silver harem style trousers. The genderless designs allowed the clothes and the models to become one during the display, as the sheer tulle skirt seamlessly moved into the just-below-the-knee black trench coat. Our favourite, however, a floor-sweeping full-skirted gown with sheer inserts and ballooned sleeves. It’s the type of garment you’d love to dance about a manor house in.

Maisie Wilen

The collection to own for the duration and transition from mid to post-lockdown. Maisie Wilen’s symmetrical and kaleidoscopic prints spanned over the entire collection. Maisie Wilen’s previous collections have often been based upon the customer’s need for ahead of the curve style outfits for significant events. For Wilen, the idea that the customer’s significant moments will currently range from zoom calls to Instagram and TikTok posts was clearly taken into account, as the comfortable yet edgy range will allow buyers to smoothly transition from indoors to post-lockdown outdoor events. As the models literally walked on water, the audience felt a weight lifted, watching pastel and neon hues glide before them against a calming sage green curtain. In cheerfully patterned leggings and velvet bootcuts, to pastel patterned sweatshirts. the audience can easily imagine themselves both lounging and posing in Wilen’s collection. 

PH5 

Sustainability meets three-dimensional knitwear can easily sum up PH5’s Fall 2021 collection. Wei Lin and Zoe Champion experimented with dimensions and cuts with a collection that was complied with 2021 appropriate statement pieces. Embodying this, an asymmetrically cut dress with geometric patterns that cleverly added shape, dimension, and sometimes levelness where needed. The dress abruptly became a pale blue piece of knitwear at the collar and sleeves, which perfectly represents PH5’s stray from their typical knitwear into an experimental computative and mathematical style of pattern. Other highlights include a pastel two-piece with contrasting scallops and straight edges as well as a navy overlapping checked patterned knee-length dress with asymmetrical cuts and subtle chain embellishments.

Private Policy 

Private Policy’s Fall 2021 collection made a topical and important statement with their collection. The rise in xenophobia and hate crimes that have targeted Asian Americans is prolific, and Private Policy’s collection can heavily inspire audiences to become engaged and educated on Asian-American and Asian culture, as the collection draws inspiration from Chinese migrants who came to California via the Pearl River Delta. The collection features neutral tones, blacks, and pinks and still incorporates the sloping checked patterns that are something of a Private Policy classic. Speaking to Vogue, Siying Qu said ‘The focal point of both the historical photos and the collection’s look book is a hat with a wide brim that half-covers the eyes, which is regionally specific to the Pearl River Delta’. The aforementioned hat has been crafted Private Policy style and featured in numerous looks in a black carnation pink or sage green, finished with a chunky metallic chain. The collection retains its on brand youthful, wonderful style and successfully incorporates a message of hope, honour, and need for societal improvement. 

Victor Glemaud 

Pinstripes and monochrome, the knitwear genius, Victor Glemaud has turned his attentions to a super casual office inspired collection, in all of its block-coloured glory. Slinky and comfortable perfectly sums up the line, with a section of black and white clothing that is almost close to a very modern, more casual version of the swinging sixties. Flare bottoms came out in force, in pinstripes and knits that would make any buyer feel like they’ve mastered the work-from-home outfit. With the occasional pink and sunny yellow interspersing, the monochromatic black-, white- and rust-coloured ensembles, the collection is essentially the ultimate stylish lock-down wardrobe.

Italy’s fashion capital Milan is hosting its first fashion venture of 2021: Men’s Fashion Week. The highly anticipated event boasts features from 39 of men’s luxury fashion designers, including the likes of Fendi, Prada and TOD’s.

However, one of the most notable innovations for this year’s show, which has been running between 15-19th January, is that the fashion week is entirely digital, due to the expected social distancing restrictions in place in line with Italian governments.

Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana which stands for the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, is the organisation, which is platforming MFW, with the aim of promoting young designers.

While the lack of audience and hustle and bustle is no longer there, this change of working has forced designers to thrive and push their creativity to display their collections in new ways. Here are three shows which have done just that.

A COLD WALL*

British brand ‘ A COLD WALL*’ has been directed by young designer Samuel Ross, since it was founded in 2015 and taken the lux technical streetwear world by storm. The beginning of the FW21-22 show depicted an isolated and minimal show set up, with white flooring, scarcely placed green shrubbery and an illuminating yellow sculptural piece which a handful of models circulated around. The colour scheme was constantly being alternated throughout the show, from white and zesty lemon yellow to dark monochrome footage with eerie techno instrumentals played over the visuals.

The collection brings clean-cut silhouettes with a fusion of tailored Saville Row detailing such as pointed collars and cuffed shirt sleeves, combined with functional streetwear elements such as high -neck zips and loose tracksuit bottoms.

Colour palettes varied from hues of snow whites, ash greys, purple grapes and teal blues fading through to yellow ochre and classic shades of black. The continued development of A COLD WALL’S aesthetic can be described as an ode to futuristic fashion, whilst staying true to their London streetwear roots.

ETRO

Classic Italian family-run brand ETRO returns with its latest FW21-22 men’s collection for MFW, which is filmed in a large industrial warehouse which includes no other decorate element than the luminous coloured stained windows, which pours hues of warm yellow and orange light onto the runway floor replicating a sunset ambience. Fast-paced, upbeat electronic music complements the fast-moving models on the runway.

The vast spread collection pays homage to the textural and bohemian influenced aesthetic of ETRO we all know and love, with regular sightings of multicoloured jumpers and belted baggy trousers with paisley prints, paired with tailored suit jackets or sport caps. The most prominent accessory of the collection would be the use of leather cross-body bags which are embellished with flat studded metal detailing that come in various shapes and sizes.

A mix between a cool history teacher and a 1970’s hippie with athleisure detailing is how the ETRO collection may be interpreted, which is interestingly not following suit with many of the other current designers who are working with a futuristic aesthetic narrative, yet they remain effortlessly cool.

PRADA

Italian powerhouse PRADA showcases at MFW once again with their newest FW21-22 collection. The production is set around models walking through giant, spacious rooms with marble floorings and furry walls that are a different colour scheme in each room, from deep reds, lime greens, royal purples and baby pinks – each conveying different moods. The most serious nature of the models is followed by deep techno being played throughout the show but is occasionally interrupted with the clips of the models dancing freely and frantically to the music.

There is a clear reminiscence of a 1980’s influence being used in PRADA’s collection, with interlocking geometric patterns being used on the garments in conjunction with colourful oversized bomber jackets and overcoats or dark, as well as the slim tailoring which PRADA is renowned for. The triangular PRADA symbol is evident throughout the show, with the camera homing in on the emblem detailing, which was featured on the back of jumpers, sides of coat sleeves and most interestingly on the front of pocket padded leather gloves, which features a zip-up pocket on the front of the hand with chrome PRADA branding.

PRADA has remained cool and collected with this collection, with keeping in line with their minimal tailoring approach with pops of colour to keep things exciting.

Pearls and thrills and florals. Simone Rocha’s collections are a Pandora’s box of decadence: luxe pieces oozing with rich, exuberant textures and extravagant cuts. Simone Rocha is a feast for the eyes, an opulent spread of sumptuous fashion. This is why we could not be more excited for H&M’s latest designer collaboration.  Get out your diary, magic through the months and circle 11^th March – the release date of the Simone Rocha x H&M. 

No matter how much our hearts desire, often Rocha’s pieces are beyond our budget and many of us are excluded from her delightful world of dreams. However, H&M has ensured we weep no more, their latest announcement promising Rocha’s personality without the high price tag. Said to have spent time ‘reflecting on and recrafting her brand’s archive’, we can expect an overarching collection from this collaboration, a contemporary love child between the old, beloved pieces and new, unseen designs.      

For lovers of Bridgeton, this collection couldn’t have been timed better! The collection is delightfully predictable in that we can expect Rocha’s signature palette of cream, pink, red and black, yet simultaneously unpredictable since for the first time the brand is venturing out into menswear and kidswear. Rocha’s inclusivity echoes her desire for accessibility, designing her latest collection as a stepping-stone for everyone to enter her world. The H&M press release partially details this, telling us to expect ‘Delicate tulle dresses, tartan tailoring, beaded shirting, cable knits, outerwear such as trench coats and signature accessories like sparkling jewellery and pearl-embellished shoes’. 

Beyond the (anticipated) explicit beauty of this collection, the concept of a high-end designer collaborating with a high-street shop is priceless for the fashion industry. Not only does it weave a new affordability into luxury fashion, it also paves the way for high-street (often fast) fashion pieces becoming more treasurable and unique. In sprinkling the high-street with her art, Simone Rocha is subtly breaking the barrier between ‘high’ and ‘low’ fashion, a process all fashion-lovers dreams are made of! 

Until March 11^th? We’ll be dreaming of Simone Rocha x H&M…

London fashion week is the prized seasonal event which is eagerly anticipated by the fashion industry big players and stylish consumers alike. LFW fuses the latest creations by both established fashion houses and rising independent designers, curated into a beautiful showcase of a runway for the world to admire.

Year after year LFW has provided in-person shows which have seen their fair share of faces from around the world. However, with government restrictions to social gatherings causing strife throughout 2020 and with the recent news of another UK national lockdown, the British Fashion Council have decided to host the majority of LFW shows through a digital platform, with a minority of shows being showcased in and around London.

The LFW runway schedule will be running between 19-23 February, with an exciting list of an eclectic mix of designers which has been released for preview on the official LFW website. The line-up boasts familiar names such as Emilia Wickstead and ERDEM, as well as up and coming talent such as Matty Bovan and EFTYCHIA.

Another adjustment LFW are making this year is the merging of LFW menswear and womenswear collections. This is to promote a genderless showcase of work that illustrates an inclusive future for fashion.

This is the replacement model for men’s fashion week, which would be otherwise held in January but cannot go ahead due to the latest Covid-19 and post Brexit constrictions which would arise challenges surrounding the movement of goods and samples in a single market and customs union.

Caroline Rush, BFC chief executive said: “As the fashion industry moves towards a more sustainable and responsible future in line with the newly formed Institute of Positive Fashion, our aim is to continue to redefine our fashion week model, embracing digital and technological innovation while offering ideas and solutions that will work for all designer businesses. Moving LFWM into LFW in February will continue to de-gender LFW, allow designers greater flexibility to consider what collection they show when and minimise travel requirements, taking us one step closer to a more sustainable future.”

While this change of how we celebrate new designers and collections is inevitable, we can choose to view this change in an optimistic light and continue to use the platform of LFW as it was intended to be used; to support the future of fashion and its creators.
