If TikTok, Instagram and the viral Miu Miu slingbacks are to be believed, cherry red is the colour of the season. While red has always been part of the autumnal colour palette, recent years has seen it take a step back with ‘Christian Girl Fall’ colours (brown, mustard white, brick, burnt orange) taking a more prevalent position in the hierarchy. This subdued, deep red is the perfect accent to any outfit, bringing life to your darker warm clothes.

While it is easy to pendulum between the many variations of the black or navy turtle neck and the white woollies, buttercup cream is the perfect way to subtly introduce lighter colours back into the mix. While the shade is very reminiscent of white, the hint of yellow makes all the difference. The vanilla-esque colour comes from the same line of thought as the mustard beanie we all had in 2017 but, evokes a far more luxurious pastel palette to fit into your “silent luxury” outfit rotation.

Metallics are here to stay this season. Between the recent Rabanne X H&M collaboration and the abundance of it during the Autumn/Winter ’23 shows, metallics has been revived in the zeitgeist. Metallics can actually be far more versatile than they are given credit. A metallic version of the customary satin slip dress present in everyone’s closet, is a far more elevated piece of clothing in and of itself. A chunky metallic coat or leather jacket, chrome knee-high boots, a sequined mini skirt – are all pieces fit to enhance your fall and festive wardrobe.

We cannot talk about the takeover of corp-core without pinstripes. Pinstripes have been a staple of the suit closet since time in memorial and they have never been more in style. Corporate core calls to two very clear-cut sensibilities within its aesthetic—the Y2k Devil Wears Prada corporate chic and the 80’s Armani, broad shouldered power-suited woman. Both are great ways to layer the pinstripe blazer with a matching trouser, skirt or even vest. The pinstripe’s vertical lines allow for an elongated and clean look, a stark contrast to the many puffer jackets that will pass by you this fall.

Checks are the greatest way to incorporate multiple colours into your fall wardrobe. This is a way to waken up our wardrobes during months that can appear more dull and drizzly and hit it with a vibrant revamp. An item of clothing that has combined both these styles is the colourful soft leather trench coat. This style of outerwear oozes sophistication as it holds the power to dress up any outfit and transform the look from plain to vivid. The past week at The New York fashion week, this trend has been seen repeatedly, worn by many celebrities who have been showing off this street style chic look as well as our Instagram feeds being flooded with it. Here are our favourite takes on this refreshing trend.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner was seen attending fashion retailers Revolve New York fashion week event in true style as she made an unmissable fashion statement. The centre piece of Jenner’s outfit was a flamboyant orange trench coat which captivated the onlookers’ attention as the colour alone held so much brilliance. Paired with pointed heels that matched the trench coat perfectly, as well as some basic black jeans and a cropped t-shirt, the statement coat fulfilled its role of stealing the show.

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is known for her beautifully extravagant outfits, that’s why it comes to no surprise she too owns an energetic coloured coat. Dua has been seen on Instagram sporting this illuminous green leather trench coat. Paired with an all-black attire this jacket instantly elevates the outfit and gives it a dashing twist. To join in on this trend you don’t have to go all out. Kate Hudson, who was also a guest at the Michael Kors NYFW 2021 event, showed off this brown leather trench coat which took a sophisticated stance on this trend. Still managing to get her dose of colour, but in a more subtle way, Hudson paired this elegant coat with a matching leather dress to act as a co-ord.

Leonie Hanne

Fashion influencer and model Leonie Hanne has also been photographed in this striking, deep brown coloured jacket. It’s a versatile coloured leather trench that can be styled with absolutely everything. Leonie has paired hers with textured knee-high boots and a beige co-ord as the trench makes it an overall luxe outfit.

Alicia Roddy

Influencer Alicia Roddy has also gone for a muted coloured leather trench coat, but styled with the right accessories it gives the ability to dress up extravagantly. For example, Alicia tailored her look around electric blue accessories to contrast the grey shade with a bright colour.  

Lori Harvey

Lori Harvey’s leather trench ushers ‘green is the new black’ energy, a wardrobe must-have to splash in some vibrancy to the autumn wardrobe. The coat has been paired with a matching pair of leather trousers completing the look with a simple white body-hugging tee allowing the chic trench to capture all the thunder.
