The duo have revamped the fifth single from The Weeknd’s 2017 album Starboy adding goosebump-inducing harmonies with Ariana’s angelic soprano delicately layered over Abel’s distinctive falsetto. It now sits at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and seems to be creeping its way up the charts. 

Grande and Tessfaye teased the collab with the former sharing a TikTok in which she appears to be singing and cutting vocal takes after a day of filming the movie adaptation of Wicked (part one of which is set to come out late next year). “Wrote and recorded a verse for my friend after a 14-hour day on set,” Grande captioned the video, “This certain exception had to be made”. Fans can hear faint isolated vocals from the singer that feature on the track in the video.

Last year, inspired by Kenny Beats praising female producers, The Weeknd tweeted his admiration for Grande’s production skills tweeting “i’ve seen Ariana work in real time. That woman is a BEAST on pro tools”.

Though Abel was dropping fire mixtapes before he met Grande it was their collab on ‘Love Me Harder’ that lit the fuse for his career. Whilst working on the song he was introduced to Swedish producer and songwriter to the stars Max Martin for the first time. The two have since worked on some of The Weeknd’s biggest hits including ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, ‘Hardest to Love’, ‘Blinding Lights’, ‘In Your Eyes’, and ‘Save Your Tears’, as well as becoming close friends. Abel acknowledged in an interview with Variety, “Ariana was kinda my foot in the door with Max, my chance to show him ‘I can play this game,’ y’know?”.

‘Die For You’ marks Ariana and Abel’s fourth collaboration having previously worked together on ‘Save Your Tears’, ‘Love Me Harder’, and ‘Off the Table’. We’re praying that Ariana joins The Weeknd on stage during his upcoming After Hours til Dawn tour – keep your fingers crossed.

Following the resurgence the track received in 2022 due to its popularity on TikTok, it was rereleased for Contemporary Hit Radio. SZA revealed she was considering releasing a remix of the same track with her own verse on her latest album SOS. Whilst it was sadly cut from the original album it still might make the deluxe version which is rumoured to have ten bonus tracks.

In other news, if you haven’t quite got your Weeknd fix his episodic concert film The Weeknd Live at Sofi Stadium was released on HBO Max on the 25^th February. The series lets fans who were unable to snag tics to see the maestro experience the first leg of his sold-out tour from their living room.

Following the announcement that the Queen of Pop Ariana Grande has listed a trademark for a beauty line, there has been another bout of exciting news. Posting on Instagram yesterday “coming soon @ultabeauty” Ari graced us with our first look at her new perfume, dubbed ‘God Is A Women.’

The dreamy video reveals the packaging for the fragrance – the bottle comes with a diamond-shaped cut-out revealing a transparent purple formula. Other than that, we don’t know any other information and are still waiting patiently for another word on when the beauty line will drop, which is set to include ‘skincare, body care mousse, mists, soufflés, perfumes, shower gels and bath gels.’

This isn’t the first time the ‘Positions’ singer has delved into the beauty pool. She has three perfumes to her name, including ‘Cloud,’ ‘R.E.M’ and the eponymous ‘Ariana Grande Eau de Parfum’, which combined made a staggering £105 million in 2017 alone.

Ari is certainly a beauty icon in her own right, with her trademark cat-eye and waist-length ponytail have inspired millions to invest in hair extensions like hers. So we’re excited to see what she brings with this beauty empire and while we may be struggling with celebrity beauty line fatigue, she is sure to breathe life back into the niche.

We’re not entirely sure what a body soufflé is but 100% ready to try it out.

The dress was designed by the legendary Vera Wang, who had made a pact with the singer 2 years prior at the Met Gala, promising to design her wedding dress when the day came. She more than delivered. Ari’s dress channeled her inner Audrey Hepburn with a gorgeous custom lily-white, silk charmeuse empire waist column gown. The dresses plunging back and the sculpted neckline is a modern take on a timeless classic, and the hand-pleated bubble veil topped with a bow is a nod to the iconic wedding scene in 50’s RomCom Funny Girl. It’s safe to say she truly did Hepburn justice.

Staying true to her signature look she wore a half-up version of her trademark ponytail, super smooth with a subtle middle parting. Her much-loved hairstylist Josh Liu created the beautiful updo, posting on Instagram that he ‘couldn’t be happier’ for the stunning bride.

Ariana’s glam was of course, immaculate. Makeup artist Ash K Holm created the matt masterpiece with brown winged eyeshadow, long lashes, a mauve-y lipstick and contour that could kill. Sadly, her glam team hasn’t disclosed which products they used for this minimal nuptial vibe.

To finish off the look, the ‘Positions’ singer wore pearl and diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz to match her engagement ring – which features one pearl next to an upside-down diamond, both of which carry huge significance in her life. Vogue reports that the story behind it is about “appreciating the lowest or the ‘upside down’ moments in her life and how they have contributed to where and who she is now.”

The ceremony was a small affair, with only 20 of their nearest and dearest attending. As predicted in her hit-song ‘Thank U, Next’ she walked down the aisle alongside her parents, Joan Grande and Ed Butera to awaiting husband-to-be Dalton Gomez standing under suspended flowers, wearing a pristine Tom Ford suit.

Now we have an influx of bridal companies pushing bowed veils and silk dresses permeating our Instagrams – the superstar has caused waves around the world. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Beginning our playlist is this badass anthem from reigning pop princess, Ariana Grande. The production is soft, dreamy and ever so slightly funk-inspired, much like the rest of her album sweetener. The lyrics exude confidence and quite simply make you feel like you are on top of the world.

2. ‘Break the Ice’ – Britney Spears

This underrated gem is one of my favourites and quite possibly the best Britney Spears song ever released. The song opens with the enticing words, “it’s been a while, I know I shouldn’t have kept you waiting, but I’m here now.” The song is an utter musical explosion of gospel singers, pounding drums and whining synths, all complemented by some of the strongest vocals Miss Spears has ever delivered, all at the peak of her “breakdown” in 2007. Pretty legendary if you ask me.

3. ‘Trouble for Me’ – Britney Spears

Femme Fatale was a pure electro-pop masterpiece and this track is merely a window into the album. The song is a whirlwind of roaring synths and Britney’s sassy yet despairing lyrics. Behind the seemingly simple message of Britney falling for a “bad guy” is actually the sad reality of Britney’s addiction. “Me and you were a disaster and you’re only a danger to me,” Britney sings. The masking of the deep lyrics behind an effortlessly intoxicating song makes it all the more captivating.

4. ‘Roulette’ – Katy Perry

‘Roulette’ is a total explosion of 80s pop in all its best forms. The playful lyrics complimented by the electrifying synths make the song gripping from start to finish. The song hits its peak at the chorus when the beat plunges into an unapologetically 80s dream. It’s hard to describe just how stimulating those first moments the chorus hits are but I am envious of anyone who gets to experience them for the first time. Katy wants us to “lose control” with us on this track and we are absolutely dancing our hearts out alongside her.

5. ‘Close Your Eyes’ – Kim Petras

Despite this song being taken off of Kim’s Halloween album, Turn off the Light, it does not discount it in the slightest from being perfection and a year-round bop – you may just need to ignore the plainly Halloween nature of the lyrics. Kim’s sassy speak-singing in the verses and powerhouse vocals in the chorus, listen in for those notes at the end, topped by the gripping beat make the song thoroughly enthralling from beginning to end, a perfect window into the artistry of Kim for any new listeners as well.

6. Venus – Lady Gaga

‘Venus’ is the absolute pinnacle of Gaga’s 2013 album, ARTPOP. The song is a curated compilation of Gaga yelling over various stirring and explosive, obdurately electronic dance-pop beats. Despite being promoted on various shows in 2013, it was never released as a single, which I think is a crime to pop music. The chorus is irresistibly catchy and embodies the essence that is Lana Del Rey, the sexy-sad playfulness is inescapable and almost certainly manages to pull you deep under the spell of the Mother Witch herself.

8. Genetics – Meghan Trainor (ft. The Pussycat Dolls)

A day will not go by where I do not try and convince someone to listen to this song. ‘Genetics’ is utter exuberant, bubble-gum pop perfection. The sassy lyrics are refreshing and empowering and the warping beat of the song echoes the unavoidably catchy nature of previous Meghan Trainor body empowerment anthem, ‘All about that Bass’. Meghan and The Pussycat Dolls sound incredible and the confidence this track exudes can’t help but make the listener feel slightly happier than they did before they pressed play.

9. Vulnerable – Selena Gomez

Radiating confidence and self-assurance, ‘Vulnerable’ ushers the listener into Selena’s mind, one of peaceful euphoria and soft, thoughtful contemplation. Selena’s voice is enticing and as the song descends into the chorus, as opposed to the habitual EDM beat familiar in Selena songs, it exchanges it for a smooth dreamy mix, shadowing her softly spoken words and completing the track entirely. Definitely one for playing around the pool, if/when we are eventually allowed out of our homes.

10. – I Did Something Bad – Taylor Swift

Reputation era Taylor Swift was possibly one of the most powerful, fearless and badass figures in recent pop history and criminally underrated deepcut, ‘I Did Something Bad’. As petty as it is catchy and endearing. it shows a (bitter and better) Taylor harnessing the heartbreak and hurt of her precious work and totally reimagining the outcome, giving the listener an apathetic psychopathic swift seemingly showing no remorse for her alleged wrongdoings. thunderous stomps of the beat, mixed with roaring synths pull the listener in and out of the song, the lyrics spill over each line as if a reptilian Taylor is hissing them out, entirely consuming you, chewing you up and spitting you out. leaving you reeling from an all bodily encompassing musical experience.

Grande’s man, Dalton Gomez –  a luxury home real estate agent from Los Angeles – has been pictured with her since February this year and, while never revealing how long they’ve been together, Grande officially announced their relationship in her ‘Stuck With U’ music video back in May.

After quarantining together throughout the pandemic, Gomez did the job with ‘7 rings’ rolled into one: a huge pearl and opal-cut diamond engagement ring displayed on Ariana’s instagram post with her hand covering her face. The post, which also featured some unseen polaroid pictures of the couple, sparked congratulations from the Kardashians, Bella Hadid and Ariana’s Victorious ex-costars. Meanwhile on twitter, Joan Grande  (her mother) tweeted “I am so excited to welcome Dalton Gomez into our family! Ariana, I love you and Dalton so much!!!! Here’s to happily ever after! YAY xoxoxo” and manager Scooter Braun wrote “Congrats to these two amazing souls. Ari we love you and could not be happier for you. Dalton you are a lucky man.”

The news came the day before Ariana’s new Netflix documentary Excuse Me, I Love You that shows her on and off stage during last year’s Sweetener tour, an oasis for fans and a sore spot for all of us missing live shows. While her recent post shows her love and dedication to her new fiance, there are no doubts of her undying love and dedication to her fans as she labels it a love letter to them…

For those who haven’t been obsessing over this new cut, let us explain: the curtain bang features a middle parting and two shorter framing pieces either side of the face.
