This Summer’s Cruella Inspired Hair That’s Actually Very Wearable

When you think of hair trendsetters, who springs to mind – Ariana Grande? Jourdan Dunn? Kim Kardashian-West? Well, change is afoot this summer as an unlikely hero is cropping up for hair inspo – the Disney villain, Cruella De Vil. Her infamous two-toned hairstyle has a new breath of life thanks to Disney’s live-action prequel film – coming to our screens later this month – that follows the young villain’s life showcasing exactly why she is so terrifying (and chic).

So instead of going down the traditional summer hairdo route of soft waves or a pixie cut, why take a more avant-garde approach. It doesn’t have to be the sharp-shaped bob with the impact fringe Cruella loves per se, this new trend is more wearable. The top half of your hair should be black and the bottom platinum blonde – see picture below.

Not only will it look incredible when the wind blows and flicks your hair up, but it looks cool in an updo. Brushed into a ponytail exactly where the two lines meet will give you that two-toned goddess feeling that is perfect for the incoming summer weather. Selena Gomez recently rocked a similar platinum blond look with her signature brown locks juuuuust showing underneath. If she rates it, then it’s cool enough for us too.

If we’ve managed to convince you to jump on the bandwagon, execute this hairstyle with caution. Do not (I repeat, DO NOT) try this at home; there are just so many factors that could go wrong. Instead, find a trusted salon. Speaking to Tyla, a hairstylist from Palmer Fisher London said:

“For anyone looking to achieve this look, especially in darker colour variations like black and white, you need to find the right hairdresser, preferably a colour expert who isn’t afraid of a challenge. It is also important to remember that you need to have the right base to achieve such bold colours which can be a lengthy process.”

And if black and white isn’t your bag, there are hundreds of other different variations. How about pastel pinks? Or channel your inner Billie Eilish with green and black? Modernize the look however you want, but keep it grungy.

We’re into it. May we suggest Ursula from The Little Mermaid next?

Do it at home:
