Must-Have Waterproof Mascaras That Belong in Your Makeup Bag

We all know that dreadful feeling. You know, the one where you pull out your iPhone camera to be greeted with dark under eyes and smudged makeup. You take a closer look to find that your mascara has smeared – its messy, sure, but most unfortunately, it simply won’t budge. The solution? Waterproof mascara. Built to last through rain and storm, these mascaras come in handy all year round, whether that be on a night out with your closest girlfriends, or for a quick top-up before heading to the beach. Here, Voir shares our favourites.

Too Faced – Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara Black

Just when we though that Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara couldn’t get any better, along came a waterproof edition. Whilst promising to lengthen and curl your lashes with just one coat, this hourglass-shaped brush covers each lash in its unique formula, imparting a deep, black shade that steers clear of flakiness. Employing film-forming polymers and collagen, this mascara provides all day wear that simply refuses to shift – no matter the circumstance. Apply the first coat from base to tip, the second over and under the lashes, and the third from base to tip once more in a rolling motion. Remember to allow your lashes to dry between each layer for a beautiful, sultry eye look that’s built to last.

Urban Decay – Perversion Waterproof Mascara

The rebellious Urban Decay never fails to produce lust-worthy products that guarantee to turn heads, and when it comes to waterproof mascara, Urban Decay is no different. Loyal to its roots (literally), this creamy formula will give you gorgeous, glossy lashes – nourishing them with amino acids and marine glycogen to stimulate both strength and growth. To maximise the products’ densely packed bristles, which separate and amplify each individual lash, apply one to two coats for maximum volume, prepped with Urban Decay’s Subversion Lash Primer to elevate your look even further.

Dior – Diorshow Waterproof Mascara

For voluptuous lashes that will have you looking fresh off the runway in just one sweep, look no further than Dior’s Diorshow Waterproof Mascara. A favourite amongst celebrity MUA’s, this dreamy rendition of the prestige formula will curve and thicken your lashes instantly, using Aquastop water-resistant technology to ensure that your lashes stay exactly where they belong. Apply in a zigzag and add multiple coats to build gradual volume, taking your lashes from natural to distinctive as and when you see fit.

Lancôme – Lash Idôle Waterproof Mascara

With 360 micro-bristles that lengthen and lift and a smudge-proof formula to match, if you’re looking to achieve fanned-out lashes reminiscent of your favourite weekend falsies, then Lancôme’s Lash Idôle Waterproof Mascara is for you. Infused with white tea extract, this mascara will keep your lashes in good shape for over 24 hours. To apply, we recommend using a lash primer first to prep your lashes and avoid clumps, and if you don’t have one at hand, try an eyelash curler! Careful, waterproof mascara dries quickly. Pull the wand from base to tip in one fluid motion, and layer until you reach the desired length.

MAC Cosmetics – In Extreme Dimension Waterproof Lash Mascara

Looking to enhance the drama and avoid the clumps? Give Mac’s In Extreme Dimension Waterproof Lash Mascara a go. Whilst avoiding flakes and smudges, this mascara will provide structure despite its lightweight formula, withstanding moisture of each and every kind. Press the brush into the lashes close to your roots and ’shimmy’ it from root to tip. Whilst effective and practical, with such gorgeous packaging, who wouldn’t want this product in their makeup bag?
