J-LO Takes The Crown In Our Iconic Golden Globe Outfits Of All Time

Another January means another Golden Globe Awards. And for those of you reading in-between the lines, yes, that means more iconic outfits will be worn and obsessed over. This year we were left to wonder what incredible fashion pieces were worn as the Globes were untelevised due to the restrictions regarding Covid-19. No red-carpets sadly meant no style photos. So, we have been patiently waiting with high hopes for the Golden Globes Awards of 2023.

In celebration of the event returning to our screens and social media’s we have gathered our top iconic looks from previous years. Dating back over sixty years of iconic outfits, the results of our winners are in. Take a look for old-times-sake and reminisce in the fits which wowed us at the time and are still taking our breath away today.

Marilyn Monroe, 1962

Starting off with a classic and our earliest pick of the list, we have Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 look. A Norman Norell sequined gown captivated the world as Monroe bagged herself a Golden Globe for World Film Favourite Female. The gown is so beautifully timeless and classic it has to make the list for iconic Golden Globe gowns.

Cher, 1973

1973 has made it to the list because of Cher’s iconic style. Queen of the 60s and 70s, it is only right that Cher is featured during this decade of award looks. In a classic Cher style, she shows off her defined stomach and embraces fun, bright patterns on her two-piece. Symbol of the two-piece look, she pairs with an enlarged fur coat which at the time was seen as boundary pushing.

Barbara Carrera, 1989

We are walking on cloud 9 with this look. The white, silk ruffled gown creates a picture of elegance which has therefore, of course made this look an iconic fit, worthy of our list. It is striking, it is mesmerizing and it would still make a moment worthy of fashion history if it made its debut now.

Andie MacDowell, 1991

Entering the 1990’s we have multiple looks which we have selected for you to marvel over. The Four Weddings and a Funeral actress, Andie MacDowell, who was nominated for her performance in Green Card, created an iconic moment at the 1991 awards. The low-slung back of the glitzy dress was a super sexy contrast to the modest front and captures the 90’s style at its finest.

Julia Roberts, 1991

Winner of the Best Actress in the Comedy/Musical category and our favourite Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts. The awards saw Roberts wear a pin-striped suit dress, and if it wasn’t obvious then it is very obvious now that this look was a monumental fit which would be marked as a favourite decades later. The dress, taking inspiration from the suit style and power dressing of the 80s, with a super 90s minimalist silhouette is symbolic of the style change.

Jennifer Lopez, 1998

The asymmetry of the gown worn by J-LO in 1998 is everything. A huge round of applause for this stunning design. A dress ahead of its time which could easily be worn for the next awards and receive the same level of praise as it did in the 90s.

Angelina Jolie, 1999

The silver glittering Versace dress of the 1999 Golden Globe Awards which Angelina Jolie wore makes the cut. It is hard to envision a more glamorous gown after laying eyes on the sparkly floor length design. The Versace dress is vintage Hollywood at its finest.

Halle Berry, 2003

The powder blue satin gown worn by Halle Berry in the early 2000s is of course a classic. The accompanying evening shawl, embellished shoulders and mermaid style skirt is iconic of the time period and is still a look gathering attention today.

Sarah Jessica Parker, 2004

Style icon, Sarah Jessica Parker, warrants a place on the list with her 2004 Globe look. The strapless Chanel gown which featured a longer train in the back than the front was an iconic look for the decade as it embodied the style of early y2k perfectly.

Beyonce, 2007

Golden gown for a golden girl. There is no surprise why this dress is worthy of a mention as it is a spectacular piece of craftsmanship from Elie Saab. The forward slit in the skirt of the gown and dazzling gold sparkles is a memorable design which we have to honour. Perfect for Beyonce’s figure the dress emphasized the superstar’s curves and could not have been more flawless.

Jennifer Lopez, 2009

Another gorgeous gold frock for the Golden Globes. The liquid gold Marchesa gown was the epitome of Golden Globes fashion. The shimmering iridescent fabric which draped over Lopez was hard to not be spellbound by and years after we are still under her spell.

Jennifer Lopez, 2011

J-LO’s 2011 gown is a sparkle-lover’s dream. Seeing a lot of leg slit gowns in our mix, this side slit is notably more subtle than others. The gleaming white dress which features a small train at the back is super on brand with J-LO’s style and we love the look even more, more than a decade after its debut.

Jennifer Lopez, 2013

We did tell you; J-LO has truly ruled this feature. Adding our fourth and final J-LO look to our long list of iconic Golden Globe looks is her 2013 Zuhair Murad gown. The skin matching figure-hugging gown has a layer of sheer fabric embroidered with white lace which has been delicately and strategically placed around the gown. A combination of sexy and stunning.

Margot Robbie, 2014

The super sleek number worn by Margot Robbie in 2014 is a delicate design of sophisticated style. The actress revealed her leg in the high-slit gown which fitted her figure perfectly. The dazzling embroidery was subtle, however, just the right amount of sparkle to catch passing eyes.

Kendal Jenner, 2018

The luxurious Giambattista Valli gown of the 2018 awards is welcomed into the mix. The black haute Couture dress gained its iconic status on the red-carpet four years ago and maintains its legacy. We reckon the dramatic train of the strapless tulle dress had something to do with it.

Kerry Washington, 2020

The 2020 look worn by Kerry Washington gives us a fresh and differentiating style compared to our list so far. The Altuzarra design is hard to pick flaws in. Washinton wore with elegance and glamour and the fit has earned its place rightfully. The blazer partnering with the satin black silk skirt works incredibly well and the sequined silver heels tie in with the knotted silver jewels which keep the blazer in place.

Zoe Kravitz, 2020

A polka-dot princess is in our midst. The 2020 look worn by Zoe Kravits is a monochromatic dream outfit. The off-the-shoulder 60s influenced dress stood out amongst the year’s line up on the red carpet and we love the vintage throwback of the style.

Winnie Harlow, 2020

2020 is proving to be the year of Golden Globe iconic looks. The dazzling fringe dress is straight up Winnie’s style and that is why we rate it so highly. She dripped in sparkling silver fringe as the high-slit revealed her left leg in a glamourous fashion. Paired with the high pair of black stilettos, we love the whole ensemble.

Our list of all-time iconic fits worn at the Golden Globe Awards, does suggest a winner due to their frequency of featuring. Featuring many times in our list… Jennifer Lopez… is crowned queen of the Golden Globes.

As the annual awards ceremony will roll around in due time, we are hyped for the spectacular looks that will take the stage. Get ready for January 10th as the awards celebrate their 80th anniversary, amazing talent and legendary fashion.
