Gold Chain Jewellery: Why Chains Keep Getting Thicker

Chain jewellery has undoubtedly been the most popularized trend of 2021. From chunky necklaces and bracelets to anklets and bag handles, chains appear to be everywhere, and they keep getting thicker. From the iconic and timeless Tiffany & Co necklaces that became extremely popular in the 2000’s to Bottega Veneta’s chain bag handles that are ubiquitously dominating the market, wearing chunky jewellery has truly a charm that never fades away, and the trend is only getting bigger. Chains are the embodiment of eternity, of eternal love, and traditionally only the rich could afford thicker gold chains. The interlocking structures allude to a symbiotic relationship between the self and others, a signal of connection and of a confident presence. Allegedly, the thicker the chains are, the stronger the power you emanate.

BOTTEGA VENETA

Starting with the buzziest signature bag in fashion, seen on every it-girl on Instagram, the Bottega Veneta Chain Cassette bag features a stunning gold metal chain that is a dream to look at. It is the catalyst trend that revamped our obsession with chunky jewellery, and the ultimate luxury accessory.

It’s easy to tell that many brands are inspired by this aesthetic, but Bottega isn’t the first the incorporate gold metal chunky accents to their accessories. Cuban link chains were a product of the 1970s hip-hop scene, born originally in Miami. Our love for the 70’s has seen a resurgence in recent collections across major catwalks, and Cuban links are no exception. These are our favourite timeless pieces:

TIFFANY & CO. graduated link necklace

This stunning gold necklace is as elegant as they get, and it is the perfect balance between sophistication and chunkiness, making it a perfect signature accessory.

CELINE Curb Link Bracelet

Celine’s is not a brand typically associated to jewellery, surprisingly, as this showstopping but still very wearable bracelet is definitely affordable. It is the perfect “icy” accessory, but on a budget, and we are totally obsessed!

LAURA LOMBARDI Luisa Gold-plated Necklace

For everyone who’s nostalgic of the 2000’s, this necklace might just be what you didn’t think you needed, and this brand completely encapsulates the elegance of the original Tiffany & Co design whilst giving it a new, fresh revamp for 2021.

VERSACE Varnished Medusa Charm Necklace

Versace truly comes close to perfection when it comes to their creative designs. Nonetheless, this necklace feels very wearable and sophisticated at the same time, and at a reasonable price point too.

PACO RABANNE XL Link Necklace

Last but not least, Paco Rabanne’s FW21 jewellery collection is simply divine, and we can’t take our eyes off of this magnificent creation.
