Bold prints are a summer staple when it comes to swimwear. Match your print to the place you’re vacationing in, or just find something that speaks to you. Bonus points if you have a matching set! 

Monochrome

The opposite of bold prints, monochromatic swimwear never goes out of style, but with the rise of trends like ‘quiet luxury’ and ‘stealth wealth’, expect to see simple colours with accessories taking the spotlight.

Charms are an easy way to spice up your swimwear! If you can’t find a bikini that comes with them, just find some cool designs and attach them yourself. It is a really cool way to personalise your swimsuit and can be switched up as often as you want!

This style of bathing suit is perfect if you like the shape of a one-piece but still want to tan your stomach. It also gives you an hourglass silhouette, and a halter-neck style like this one is very on trend in 2023, channelling the early 2000s.

See-through cover-ups

One of the top trends of 2023 so far is the naked dress, so it is no surprise that swimwear plays into the style. While most people wouldn’t go to dinner or a club in just their bikini, layering a see-through mesh or crochet dress over the top completely transforms the look into a party-ready outfit.

Cutout swimwear

Coutout clothing is so trendy right now and has been seen everywhere, from the runway to the high street, or both (think Mugler x HM)! This is definitely a style for influencers, as although it is really flattering, it can produce some very abstract tan lines— you have been warned!

Layering

This style is super unique but is a really cool and unusual look that will definitely turn heads this summer. Of course, layering is an essential part of street style, but is not really something we often see in swimwear. Here is our guide for the best inclusive beachwear brands for body positivity.

Maison Roèl

Maison Roèl’s designer Eleonora Rocchini, wanted to concretize her vision of making women express their sensuality unapologetically, and exalt every body type – the natural beauty of the feminine body. The brand encapsulates the essence of a modern, resilient woman that regains ultimate power over herself. As the designer mentioned in an interview with Vogue Italia, she started the brand following some seriously catastrophic events in her life: she had lost her home, her job and even her clothes, and therefore she decided to invest everything she owned into this brand that fully focuses on empowering and uplifting other women.

“Women that are strong, free and independent, that live for themselves without prejudices and hatred towards other women, that feel beautiful in their own skin and don’t succumb to the will of others. I wanted to give something of mine, and that is why Maison Roèl embraces these positive and uplifting values and involves as many diverse women as possible, regardless of the size they wear.”

For her first show to present the brand to the world, the designer launched her swimwear collection along with some very powerful statements. “Curvy in fashion needs to be normalized”, and, as Eleonora recalls, every body type should be exalted, not oppressed.

The simplistic patterns are stunning, the designs hug the body like second skin and they truly embody the brand’s values.

CHROMAT

Founded by Becca McCharen-Tran, the brand claims to promote sustainable designs that don’t harm the planet and fit all sizes perfectly, and we surely agree!

LONELY THE LABEL

The New Zealand-based design house, celebrates the strength and individuality of women through comfortable styles and their signature silhouettes. The brands boasts an incredible Instagram following, and their silhouettes have dominated the platform.

Last week Spring Summer ’19 served up designers Aqua Blu Australia, TJ Swim and VDM the Label all showing us what they have to offer, and it did not disappoint.

VDM the Label took us all the way back to the ‘90s with chunky trainers, scrunchies and sports stripes, setting the tone for SS19. Key accessories included clear visors, micro sunglasses and coin necklaces.

Joel Alvarez

For the truly among you, you could always nip down to your local hardware store and purchase a bulk of electrical tape like designer Joel Alvarez. The self-proclaimed ‘King of tape’ is a leading influencer in the body art game and surprised the Miami Swim audience with his innovative designs. By mixing a variety of colours and patterns, the designer plays with the female form in amazing ways. Who knew electrical tape could be so evocative?
