Every year, the Prada show is shrouded in secrecy as we await one of the most anticipated shows of the season. And this season, the Italian giant welcomed us into their effortlessly cool and chic home.

Greeting us in the front row of their Fondazione Prada base were the A-list guests in full: Rosalia, Kylie Jenner, Hunter Schafer, and Emma Watson, amongst many others. Co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simmons worked hard on their womenswear SS24 collection– and in it, they gave us the minimalist and elegant uniform we need to hustle as hard as they do.

But this time, their workwear attire and signature ugly chic aesthetic had an element of fun. Layered fringes, distressed floral patterns, and golden foil joined the otherwise monochrome colour palette. A master atjuxtaposition, Prada contrasted its signature boxy silhouettes with delicate pastel-toned organzapieces.

For their Menswear SS24 follow-up show, you didn’t know what to gawk at first; the front row, the chic clothes, or the slime leaking from the ceiling.

Diesel

Expectations are sky-high when you’re on top, but somehow Glenn Martens met them once again. The ‘Only For The Brave’ collection lived up to its name as guests braved the rain to watch Diesel’s latest show. But that didn’t stir them from cheering and hollering as models walked through the Scalo Farini rail yard space (where Gucci used to show).

The 7,000 people rager got especially loud when they thought Bella Hadid finally made her big runway reemergence, only to discover it was a lookalike model. But the triumphant return that really did happen was last year’s viral belt skirt– only this time it was half transparent. The naked look was a common theme too, with tight silhouettes in nude colours and underwear-gracing hemlines.

Although Martens did adopt trends like the ‘sheer dress’ and micro skirts, brand signatures also made an appearance. Denim-on-denim-on-denim was the name of the show, as trousers were triple-layered and the material distressed to the point of destruction. Some of the garments also had parodied movie posters (i.e. Batman) stamped on them. So much was going on, and yet the whole collection was somehow cohesive. Through an acid-washed and muddied colour palette, shredded jersey, and thrashed tuxedos, Martens created the ultimate stylish wardrobe for the apocalypse. Although the weather predictions proved awry, the forecast for today’s coolest brand is still positive: it is the moment.

Blumarine

If Diesel styled us for the apocalypse, Blumarine dressed us for heaven. Purity and romance shone a light on the usually Y2K-focused brand, with angel hues like violet, gold, and pristine white.

Early aught stapes including tube tops, ultra-low waists, and wrap dresses still sneaked in an appearance though. And just in case you missed the theme, Nicola Brognano sent models down the runway with feathered wings on their backs. But those weren’t the wings stealing the show; Blumarine’s signature butterflies were everywhere from brooches, corsages, knitted patterns, and even as a devilish underwear bottom.

This pop of mischief was sprinkled even more with the black skin-tight silhouettes, plastic dresses with metallic studs, and sheer material. With exquisite tailoring, tulle materials, and whimsy floor-sweeping gowns, Blumarine gave us an unexpected sophistication to their usual nostalgia, with an ethereal collection that beckons us to the light side.

If the fashion world is praying to angels above, this season they’re bound to be dressed in Blumarine.

For their SS24 show, Giuliano and Giordano Calza replaced their usually bright and cheeky clothes with softer colours and more sophisticated designs. But they didn’t ditch their signature salaciousness altogether, showing barely-there shorts, tiny bras, exposed thongs, and plenty of sheer tank tops.

Mia Khalifa and Alessandra Ambrosio watched from the front row as Calza turned up the notch on the Canadian tuxedo, presenting denim trench coats, mini dresses, and even knee-high boots. Inspired by the Calzas’ hometown of Naples, designs were also filled with Italian motifs and sailor stripes that had us dreaming of summering on the coast.

The brand didn’t shy away from that European luxe either, delightfully surprising us all by closing the show with very off-brand sequinned, voluminous evening gowns. This refinement was also obvious in the monochrome suits, structured sweaters, and silk trousers. A preppy element was injected into the show too, with shirts that read ‘TI AMO GCDS” and oversized varsity jackets that have us wanting to enrol in college to justify buying them.

Although this was an unexpected collection for the label, it still didn’t disappoint. When in doubt, choose GCDS.

Tom Ford

How do you replace Tom Ford at Tom Ford? Just ask Peter Hawkings. After working in close-knit with the designer himself for over 25 years, Hawkings presented his debut collection for the eponymous brand. And even if the name behind the brand is retired, the collection was Ford to its very core.

‘Glamour, sexiness, elegances, and beauty’, in Hawkings’ own words. It was nothing disruptive but that wasn’t the point. It was a consistent reinforcement of the high-quality staples the brand is famous for, from the reinvention of Ford’s iconic 1996 belt buckle to the shirts unbuttoned past their navel. The colour palette was just as consistent, full of brown, cream, and black, with a brief interlude of pastel pink and blue hues.

The show even homogenised men and womenswear, sending both genders down the runway in velvet suits and shiny mock croc. Before the British designer took the reigns the brand was in a ‘Parent Trap’ style situation, with Hawkings leading menswear from London and Ford womenswear from LA. Although the tiny shorts that were stars of the show were worn exclusively by the female models, it’s clear that the Tom Ford woman is approximating the man and vice versa. After establishing so strongly the brand’s codes into his SS24 collection, we can’t wait to see how Hawkings adds his own flair in the future.

The private Prada travel social club has travelled to Dubai this Autumn to host their 8^th Prada Mode experience. For the 9^th and 10^th of November, the ICD Brookfield Place was transformed into a Damien Hirst immersive exhibition. The ICD Brookfield is a landmark building symbolizing the mixture of lifestyle and business in the heart of Dubai’s International Financial Centre, and therefore a very fitting location choice from Prada

The two-day event featured spin painting workshops, talks and complimentary dining. Both days rounded up with a party featuring DJ sets from Sanasesh, Habibi Funk and DJ Plead. If that wasn’t a good enough reason to travel to the ICD, then the Damien Hirst installation certainly was.

Members of the club were able to experience the continuation of Damien Hirst’s ‘Pharmacy’ installation which was featured at Prada Mode Moscow 2021. The ‘Pharmacy’ installation’s origins are rooted in New York in 1992, followed by the Notting Hill 1998 restaurant. Staff uniforms for the restaurant were even designed by Miuccia Prada herself, foreshadowing much?

If you were expecting to see Hirst’s famous use of bright colours and butterfly motifs at the ‘Pharmacy’ restaurant in Dubai, you would not have been disappointed. Hirst filled the space effectively with his creative expression of colour and pattern. Viewing a restaurant as a location which can captivate the action of breathing, talking, and eating as a form of art inspired Hirst with his project. The restaurant, as the name suggests, featured pharmaceutical products, however, were shown in the artist’s creative flair. Large sculptures of medicine bottles, prescription cabinet-lined walls, and classic David Hirst artworks were on display as members of the exclusive club ate lavishly and incorporated themselves into the art.

For those of us who were unable to attend the art immersive exhibition in Dubai, we are lucky to be living in the digital age which offers us a chance to virtually experience the work of Damien Hirst. A new meta-created fashion marketplace has arrived. Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne were announced to be the first fashion brands at Meta Avatar Store. Starting this week, customers will be able to dress their avatars in iconic brand digital outfits via Meta Avatar Store. It will be available on Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook.

A new research report from the Institute of Digital Fashion suggested that people want more choices for diverse representation in online spaces which represents a huge opportunity for fashion brands.

Balenciaga CEO Cédric Charbit declared in a press release: “Web3 and Meta are bringing unprecedented opportunities for Balenciaga, our audience, and our products, opening up new territories for luxury.”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram VP of fashion partnerships Eva Chen, announced the updates via Instagram Live on Friday, saying that these capabilities will be available next week, starting with the US, Canada, Thailand, and Mexico.

The items for sale in the avatar store will range from $2.99 to $8.99 to start.

Starting with well-regarded brands was a key first step, said Mark Zukerberg, adding that the vision is to expand access. There are plans to expand this new project to independent creators, so they can sell their designs.“We want to create a marketplace so creators, over time, can design clothing and sell it,” Zuckerberg said. “A lot of the dream is to make it accessible to anyone. If you want to design fashion today, you need the physical materials and equipment, but in the future, anyone with a computer and imagination will be able to come up with ideas for this.”

For brands, this offers exponential ways to sell digital assets to consumers across multiple platforms, scenarios, and identities. Virtual fashion and customizable avatars are slowly becoming the next direct-to-consumer opportunity, especially for Gen Z customers who are increasingly willing to spend time and money in digital worlds.

Prada left casual wear in 2021 after owning Milan Fashion Week with a workwear meets sci-fi assemblage. Traditional trousers and trench coats were reinvisioned in shades of lime green and sky blue, alongside shell suits reminiscent of early 2000s space odyssey movies.

In a statement about the show, designer Miuccia Prada said her FW22 men’s collection aims to ‘make people feel important.’ And the Italian born designer didn’t disappoint. It would be impossible not to feel an air of authority in the shoulder-emphasising mahogany and black leather trench coats which marched Prada’s runway this week.

The fun, yet professional collection is a vision of post-pandemic style. Overdressing became a thing of the past after we wore nothing but joggers and jeans for two years. In turn, Prada’s FW22 men’s collection enables the wearer to look sophisticated yet striking everyday in overcoats and knitwear in an array of playful colours and styles.

Dolce and Gabbana

Among the zestful lilac lighting of the D&G runway emerged Machine Gun Kelly, who dropped his usual loud, punk attire for a white suit dripping in golden studs to open D&Gs FW22 Milano show. With his new fiance Megan Fox watching from the crowd, the fashion house couldn’t have found a star more fitting than Kelly to foretell the flamboyant menswear collection which was to follow.

Inspired by this generation’s individuality and flair, Dolce and Gabbana left their comfort zone behind with this collection, as they strived to represent the revolutionary style of Gen-Z. The Italian duo’s distinctive collection left it impossible to predict what would emerge from the runway wings next. With all-pink, ultra femme suits followed by monochromatic ski-style puffers styled with visers, to models wearing nothing but boxers and fur coats. It’s safe to say this show was a true reflection of the brand’s new ‘anything goes’ spirit.

Druv Kapoor

Kapoor’s new menswear collection branded ‘soul tech’ has been described by the designer as a representation of our true consciousness, destined to live eternally through technology. The futuristic collection, featuring overcoats covered in trippy prints and embroidered with quotes such as, ‘Linear Time is an Illusion’, is relevant in today’s digital age, in which our lives, jobs, and identities are becoming aligned to technology like never before.

After establishing his brand in 2013, Indian fashion designer Kapoor remarked that he wanted to move away from the notion that a male collection cannot incorporate femininity, with a goal to ‘break the archaic rules of gender’. Kapoor kept to his word during Milan this week, as his menswear presentation burst with fuchsia hats, floral bomber jackets, and pink embroidery. The brand incorporated masculine and feminine clothing features which would look amazing on anyone regardless of gender identity.

Dsquared2

The strings of LED lights which danced along the runway delivered a mystical mood to Dsquared2’s FW22 Milan menswear show. The Italian/Canadian brand conjured a collection which saw outdoor wear reinvisioned to become simultaneously practical and chic.

Dean and Dan Caten have evolved since their brand began with basic menswear like shirts and trousers. The brand is now characterised by its bold and eclectic styling. The twin brothers layered puffer gilets, suede fur-lined jackets, and turtlenecks in daring shades like orange and green this Milan fashion week- the perfect ensemble for stylish post- pandemic exploring.

The brothers are not afraid to combine clashing colours and prints into one look, which their FW22 collection demonstrates. From sequins with fur to tartan with stripes, no pairing is off- limits when it comes to Dsquared2.

The Italian fashion house, renowned for paisley prints and corduroy trousers, brought a relaxed and comfortable approach to high fashion in this week’s FW22 menswear show.

Creative director of Etro’s male collection, Kean Etro, sent roll-neck woolly jumpers with baggy vinyl pants, loose fleece co- ords evocative of pyjamas, and ankle- length paisley print coats which could pass as dressing gowns down the runway this week. Even the red and green paisley carpet stormed by Etro’s male models complemented the bold and wacky 1980s aesthetic which the brand proudly promotes.

Etro continued the playful, futuristic spirit of the season; flaunting cartoon-like exaggerated button sizes, ultra-shiny leather, and bold colour combinations like green and purple.

Fendi

A solid black runway illuminated by nothing but soft white lighting was the perfect precursor for Silvia Fendi’s minimal FW22 menswear collection. Fendi’s Milan show kissed goodbye to clashing patterns and welcomed the structured layering of rain coats, knee- length shorts, and waistcoats in a single shade or print. Neutral tones of beige, taupe, and grey dominated the collection, perfectly imitating the hues of the autumn months which the collection is prepared for.

The monochromatic moments were a highlight of Fendi’s menswear. Against the all-taupe and all- grey looks, stood out an all-burgundy ensemble which hinted at the season’s favour of leather. Leather belts, leather shorts, and leather bucket hats all featured in the passionate red hue and continued the brands legacy of producing ultimate leather creations.

Fendi also debuted re-imagined 1920s-style male knitwear. As male models on Fendi’s FW22 Milan catwalk sported knitted jumpers which revealed the chest through a cut-out design favoured heavily by designers this season, paired with matching knitted trousers in cream and grey.

Blue Marble

1980 met 2080 in Bluemarble’s FW22 men’s collection. While Anthony Alvarez’s Parisian brand is still in its infancy after being established in 2019, the designer was not afraid of making a bold mark on Milan Fashion Week. His Milan runway saw sequinned jeans, 80s-style Aztec prints, and scarfs in a multitude of vivid colours, perfect for staying warm but stylish in the autumn/winter months.

When speaking about his brand, Alvarez admitted he wants his clothing to represent and celebrate people’s differences, and his FW22 delivered on this promise. Whether you like to keep it classic with a beige trench, or live to be extra in a purple leopard print fleece, this collection has something for everyone.

The ultimate summer sneakers, Adidas and Prada have come together to present two new colour variations of the A P LUNA ROSSA 21. Originally created for sailing, the grey version is the lifestyle version of the model, worn by the team Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli who won the PRADA Cup and became the official challenger of the 36th edition of America’s Cup presented by Prada. The second version, in absolute black, pays homage to the legendary stories of both brands with a subtle play of tonality.

“Performance is key and priority number one. As sailors, we’re really competitive, because we’re at the top level of our sport,” explains Max Sirena to HighSnobiety. “People underestimate the importance of footwear, but in reality, shoes are key, because you spend most of the time on your feet. When you’re sailing this type of boat and you’re going at 50 knots, to maneuver from one side to the other, you need good grip. The shoes need to be light, and they need to stay dry,” he continues. “We went through several sampling stages of the shoe. The most important part is the sole, for two reasons: for the grip, and because it needs to let water out. Our boats are like a washing machine.”

Sirena along with his team are extremely happy with the outcome. “This is probably one of the first times we perfectly reached what we were looking for in terms of performance gear. [A three-way collaboration] is not easy, because there is the fashion aspect, you need to sell the product, and for us, it’s a tool — to combine all those things is not an easy process, but I think we really nailed it this time,” Sirena muses.

Inspired by the iconic heritage of both brands and the aesthetic codes of the boat AC75 Luna Rossa, the silhouette of the A+P LUNA ROSSA 21 presents an upper of PRIMEGREEN, a series of recycled materials with a high performance, with an outer coating in E-Water-repellent TPU, an ergonomic EVA tongue, a specially designed quick lacing system and an inner cover in perforated synthetic suede.

The structure, resting on the perforated BOOST midsole and on an enveloping sole, enhances the typical performance of the sneakers offering the wearer greater freedom of movement. With careful attention to detail, each pair of A+P LUNA ROSSA 21 is proposed in a waterproof bag that perfectly contains the refined box with both brands.

The two colors of the summer sneakers for 2021 will be available worldwide from July 19 at the Prada boutiques, the adidas flagship stores, the websites prada.com and adidas.com. The black version will also be available from selected retailers.

The location of the video was a celebration of Italian summers, Italy’s stunning locations and a love for nature. The red tunnel installed inside Fondazione Prada in Milan, became the portal to an idyllic sandy beach with crystal clear water in Sardinia.

Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, both extremely passionate about their job, have made it their priority to infuse their collection with simplicity, joy and the magical sensation of the human touch.

Their spring 2022 collection has an effortless, an exuberant spirit, and it felt authentic to the brand whilst still pushing their creative designs in an edgy, quirky way that only Prada can master.

“The world is so complicated — so overcomplicated — we can lose the essence of human life,” Prada said in the notes sent to reviewers after the show. “This is an idea I have been interested in for a number of seasons, and which we have been exploring in different ways. We come from previous collections that were all about technicality, machines, that reflect the necessity of technology. Now, we are thinking of the opposite. Human, real. Our interest in technology came from its place as a communication tool for humanity. But this expression is much more direct.”

Miuccia noted how the collection was all about capturing the joy of the everyday life: “The notion that living your life can be a euphoric experience,” she continued. “Much joy can come out of something so simple: when times are complicated, we are searching for simple, direct joys. An innocence.”

She made a take on “innocence” by bringing to high fashion items such as the romper, shown with rolled-up cuffs and displayed in different variations, from monochromatic options to more extravagant printed patterns, also including stripes.

“The show represents a transition — between a tunnel, an urban space and the sea. We don’t feel it should be complicated — the story is pure, direct. A move from indoors to outdoors. After constriction, the power of that feeling of infinity, an endless horizon. It gives you the feeling of freedom again. It’s human nature,” Simons said. “What we are interested in is: How can these two moments, these two environments, fuse together? A contrast between the system of the fashion industry — the runway — and nature. We started in the previous fall show to introduce these moments of different behavior from the cast, and here, you see the models in another context, another environment, a different reality. You see them be totally free, in reality. It’s natural.”

The collection fits in between a fashion utopia and the experience of the daily life. Simple silhouettes were repeated across the collection, in accordance to their environment. The clothes took an an almost shape shifting approach to fashion: the romper became a uniform in a dark navy colour styled with brogues, or displayed an effortless, yet elegant vibe when executed in white with printed with sea motifs and anchor details, layered under boat-neck sweaters with crisscross details.

The collection included crop tops with squared necklines, matched with relaxed pants or short pants, and hoodies in surfer prints. Prada and Simons have made the brand a staple for hype beasts. Outerwear felt extremely minimal in the collection: simple trenches and car coats dominate the show with their exuberant colours. Then the collection spins aesthetics all the way to an edgier, more lived-in vintage Prada appeal with their leather jackets.

The shorts are so short that can pass as miniskirts, the bucket hats with the triangle pouch on the back brim are every streetwear dream, and the striped knits were a genius selling point of the collection whilst maintaining a creative approach.

Bare legs and knee-high boots

Sexy but seasonal? For a chic but understated look, style with a chunky blazer and sleek gym shorts, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, take a cropped pair of boots and pair with a vibrant maxi skirt.

Embellished shoes

How do you feel like you’re at a party without being at a party? Embellish your shoes. Twinkle toes were featured by Gucci, Oscar De La Renta, and Loewe this year, and they hit a 2020 spot: making you feel glamorous when doing anything glamorous is virtually impossible. The shoes have been paired with ballooning print skirts and glittery trousers in a totally wild look designed to take your breath away, or for a more understated vibe, pair with low slung jeans.

Combat Boots

Combat boots for Autumn are hardly groundbreaking, but nonetheless, they are set to be everywhere this season. This year they popped up in collections by Dolce & Gabbana, Paco Rabanne, and Vivienne Westwood, but it was last weeks viral picture of Zoe Kravitz on the set of the new Batman movie, that has ensured combat boots will be everywhere this year. Pair with a leather jacket, for pure punk rock energy, or with a classic pair of denim blue jeans for a more relaxed take.
