The brand founders won the Andam Special Prize in February 2023 and were able to put the awarded £100,000 towards building their brand, they took some time off after the release of  their Fall 2023 collection in March to focus on building their brand and coming back bigger and better than ever before. Her Fall 2024 Collection in Paris was no exception. The invitations were sent out along with a bouquet of flowers labelled “missed you” with a red lipstick kiss.

The brand focuses on making sustainable and inclusive pieces for the fierce and bold. They are largely inspired by female empowerment and that theme is reflected in their design and their sizes range from size 2 to 18. Upon their return, Manas was quoted saying “This collection is a gift for the people around us. Thank you for welcoming us again; we came back and we came back with what you asked from us.”

The collection was built of down jackets which were made from recycled nylon, and trench coats that were constructed using deadstock Balenciaga. There was also a lot of colour blocking and ribbed knits that were sportier than Manas previous pieces. The brand also played with texture with a lot of ruffles and sheer fabrics.

The previous collections have been just as magical, with the Fall 23 collection based around their upcoming marriage of the two designers and partners titled “For Better or For Worse”. “We’re getting married, so we tried to do the most stereotypical wedding we won’t do for ourselves,”  they were quoted saying to a reporter.

They hosted the show in a church and played beautiful love songs like Sade’s “No Ordinary Love”. And as you can imagine, the show hosted a stunning array of white gowns on a stunning array of body types in true Esther Manas fashion. However the collection was not just about gowns, it was the epitome of the “cool bride”.

As absolute pioneers when it comes to inclusivity in fashion, we are expecting and exited to see a lot more of Ester Manas, and eagerly awaiting what they have up their sleeves for the futures of the brand.

 Interestingly, the runway witnessed a lot of cat couture moments, with leopard patterns making a lasting impression. These pieces within the collection could potentially be an indicator of future trends in 2024. Maison Alaïa’s aesthetic was reflected in the balance of simple patterns and elegant leopard prints. Pierre Mueller’s objective for the entire collection was to capture a thread of feeling that was both fragile and strong. Each piece spoke to the complexity of human experience, mirroring the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience. As a result, the collection went beyond the physicality of clothing and explored emotion and storytelling. 

‘Quiet Luxury’ Aesthetic

What truly defined the Pierre Mueller collection was the presentation of an expensive ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic. The subtle whispers of luxury were woven into the fabric of each outfit, producing a sophisticated air that captivated the audience. A really interesting and beautiful piece was the one-piece bandeau dress presented in the third picture, a 3D-printed spiralling belt that clicks into place around the body to create a luxurious modern dress, the spiralling pattern providing a visually striking impression. 

The combination of technology and fashion was apparent in this futuristic piece, which showcased the exciting possibilities of 3D printing in the world of haute couture. Not only this, but the garment also showcased a forward-thinking approach to fashion design. The precision and delicacy of the 3D-printed belt gave the outfit a futuristic feel, transforming it into a wearable work of art. Beyond its visual appeal, the spiralling belt clicking into place provided a unique and secure technique to build the dress. This blend of form and function showcased the designer’s forward-thinking perspective, challenging traditional fashion norms. 

In essence, the Maison Alaïa’s SF24 runway show from Pierre Mueller’s collection highlighted textiles, texture, and craftsmanship. Each garment, precisely created from a single thread of merino wool, showcased the designer’s technical ability. The incorporation of cat couture moments and leopard patterns hinted about trends to come in 2024, while the overall idea of ‘silent luxury’ left an indelible impression on the audience. Pierre Mueller was successful in designing a collection that was more than just apparel, but also a full experience in the world of fashion.

Renown for their feminine silhouettes cult label Dior threw away their playbook this season instead, Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri has injected feminism the collection, willing for women to dress for themselves.

Chiuri invites us to reimagine the female archetypes, from the ‘dangerous’ medieval witches to the ‘devilish’ femme fatales of 19th Century France. In a nearly all-black color palette, the show was a funeral for the clichés we have been fed our whole lives, unchaining the women of the present through garments that reclaim the power of the past.

Bewitching displays were present in fishnet and cobweb patterns, charred gray denim, delicate lace dresses, and frayed tailoring. The Parisienne Independent Thinkers were in the maps and Eiffel Tower graphics on structured blazers and long woolen coats. She reframed female stereotypes by adding gladiator straps to ballet pumps, utilitarian silhouettes to aprons and capes, and fitting power suits under dainty, cinched belts.

Contrasting her earnest message was a colorful backdrop filled with satirical feminist slogans: the ‘Not Her’ art installation by Italian artist Elena Bellantoni. “It’s the dark side of Dior!” Chiuri claimed with a enchanting glint in her eyes.

Karoline Vito SS24

On the closing day of MFW, just as the sun finally shone after a week of rain, Karoline Vitto made history. Known for her body-positive clothes, the London-based Brazilian designer had a tear-filled, monumental show supported by Dolce & Gabbana. Although she has been making waves for the last two years with her inclusivity message at LFW, it’s nothing compared to the significance of having only plus-sized models strut down the Milan runways.

Vitto brought true, authentic inclusivity to the fashion capital. Models from size 10 to 24, were flown in from her London studio. The collection further proved this, as she used her signature jersey and metal materials to hug the folds and curves society condemns women for.

Structural metal rings laddered down hips and thighs, while skimpy swimwear, barely-there slip dresses, and low-rise trousers celebrated models’ bodies. Structured bustiers, skin-bearing vests, and jersey cutout dresses followed. Vitto wants the runway to represent real women because, in her own words, ‘the majority of us are not sample size, we should be seen.”

After showing with incubator Fashion East at LFW for the past two years, Vitto gained the support of Dolce & Gabanna after world-renowned stylist Katie Grand vouched for her. It comes as no surprise then that we saw classic Dolce lingerie shapes and references to their 1992 collection, coupled with the archive fabric and size-inclusive heels gifted to Vitto by the Maison.

Post-show, editors, models, guests, and the designer herself hugged in joyful tears. Ashley Graham, who opened the show, exclaimed: “You should be crying, it was incredible! We just made history!” She then turned to the reporters. “It feels normal. You want diversity? This is diversity. More designers should be doing this. We need more curves on the runway, we need to have this be the normal. If I’m feeling normal on a runway with this many girls, it means that there’s something that doesn’t feel normal on runways everywhere else.” If this is where fashion is going, count all of us in.

Vaquera SS24

For the SS24 season, Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee brought their signature NY subversive eroticism to Paris. The show was a look at how celebrities navigate a life filled with cameras– and how we do too, now that we’ve all become our own paparazzi.

Models used ball caps, black-tinted sunglasses, and bags to hide from the flashing cameras and high-pitched tones that made the runway. They dodged and pushed their way through standing guests who, ironically (or appropriately) filmed everything like fans pushing against a security barricade.

Inspired by the 00s and 10s, we saw fishnet bodysuits, puffball gowns, bottomless chaps, and a ‘I Heart NY’ shoulder bag. Titled ‘Does It Really Matter’, the show even brought back Tumblr’s most wanted 2000s piece: the ‘Commes des Fuckdown’ slogan cap.

Vaquera questions whether celebrities’ need to be either constantly filmed or remain anonymous really matters when everyone has an iPhone anyway. Whether our own desire to hide or film ourselves truly deserves any attention. Reflecting this camera-shy vs. camera-loving duality, conventional looks were split down the back to reveal buttcheaks and bra straps.

A traditional black tube skirt was overlayed with pink underwear, simple black pantsuits had bondage straps, and golden tank tops had breast cut-out circles. Even if the show stood out for bringing out its classic devilish fun, the message behind it gave us food for thought–or, in this case, fashion for thought.

AVAVAV SS24

Every season, Stockholm-born designer Beate Karlsson breaks the internet with her humor-riddled show (last time the clothes literally fell apart down the runway). And, although the SS24 crowd also ended in laughter and delightful. And, although the SS24 crowd also ended in laughter and delightful gasps, the now-viral collection called out the toxic hustle culture we live in.

Stressed-looking models sped down the runway as they finished dressing, some even sporting half-finished designs or mascara running down their faces. The show opened with the backstage staff quickly stamping ‘AVAVAV’ post-its on the wall and pushing a model onto the runway. After anxiously trying to return BTS, she took off in quick strides as the second model appeared wearing an unfinished graphic T-shirt with “ADD BACK?! lettering.

The show was about emoting the pressure, chaos, and overwhelm we deal with regularly. It called out the time crunches and unrealistic deadlines designers have to meet while juggling a million things season after season after– you get the point. Models fought back tears as they sported sheer leggings, gloves, and furry boots with “Filthy Rich” tattooed on their chest instead of a top.

Some hid their faces altogether with front-facing hoodies, others had question-marked Sharpie annotations on T-shirts and one walked out wrapped in duct tape. Near the end, a model even ran down the runway with two foam blocks that read “ADD SHAPE”. What really took the lid off was the last look: a power suit made entirely of empty post-its. Titled, “NO TIME TO DESIGN”, AVAVAV somehow managed to be the most out-of-the-box and relatable show of Paris Fashion Week, simultaneously.

This outfit consisted of a lace bodysuit, black underwear, under the knee black boots and a long oversized black coat. Curated by YSL, this look is undeniably alluring and gives off an almost lingerie aspect to the fit.  

We love the fact that the mesh material goes all the way down to Charlotte’s hands and doubles up as a pair of gloves for her. The detailing on the body suit is beautiful and is sure to cause a stir when styled.

LOEWE

A bouquet of flowers that blossomed centre-stage and pixilated ensembles from 90s video games animated LOEWE spring/summer 2023. As he has done in the past few seasons, Jonothan Anderson continued to explore surreal fashion. Anthuriums were Anderson’s flower of choice this season. Fashion models brought exaggerated hips to the runway sporting ice-cold dresses, while others had their upper halves transformed into wax moulded Anthurium petals.

Digitally pixelated hoodies, t-shirts, and trousers were combined with sculpted garments that took on the look of autumn layers.

Issey Miyake

A moment of remembrance preceded the first Issey Miyake show since the founder’s death in August. The show, titled “A Form That Breathes,” encompassed designs that enveloped around the models’ bodies, like scrupled paper, the garments remained elegant and subdued due to the simplistic silhouettes. Many of the garments consisted of pleating that resembled waves. Tones were mostly minimal, dominated by blacks, whites, and beiges. Nevertheless, the occasional fuchsia was a welcome change to the eyes. The evening culminated with a dance performance of a special piece dedicated to the late designer, dressed in softer colours.

Victoria Beckham

It was Victoria Beckham’s first time showing in Paris this season. During her ten-plus years as a fashion insider, her collection showcased all the knowledge and ambition she still holds. This season’s collection highlights the brand’s heritage with masculine tailored tailoring, sensual dresses, and body-conscious silhouettes. A variety of dualities are incorporated into it, such as softness and hardness, structure and fluidity.

Coperni

An angelic collection including dresses embroidered with thousands of glass pieces that shimmered breathtakingly. As one of this year’s most memorable fashion shows, Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant delivered from beginning to end. 

The collection was named Coperni Femme, in honour of their first collection back in 2015: it was an ode to a reimagined femininity.  As far as technical fabrication is concerned, Meyer and Vaillant continued to lead the way, whether it was with holographic floral prints bonded onto neoprene dresses and jackets, or with slinky slip dresses featuring metallic ringlets that resemble a traditional phone cord when held together vertical panels of fabric.  

But the pièce de résistance for this season was the final look. 

A performance centred around runway star Bella Hadid closed the show. A team of specialists created a perfect minimalist Coperni slip dress directly onto Bella’s body while she appeared on stage in nothing but nude underwear.

The near-naked Hadid was sprayed with a white substance that looked like spray snow by a scientist Meyer had befriended named Dr Manel Torres and a colleague. She had a liquid sheen when it hit her skin, but after a few minutes, it became matte.   Following that, Hadid walked the runway in a dress that was liquid in a bottle just five minutes before. Enchantment brought to life by Coperni.

Hermès

In earthy browns, tans, and sunset hues, Hermès transported us through the desert. A dawn pink for the morning, to hold the coolness before it escaped. With sustainability in mind and adhering to the theme, it appeared that each of the pieces was cut from a hammock, a net or a mosquito screen. Some of the garments flowed, reminiscent of a flag fluttering. It is always impressive to see what Hermès’ ateliers can accomplish with leather. A black leather dress with a netting-like appearance hugged the model’s body adoring her to create a second skin.

Elie Saab

There was a freshness to the looks that came off the Elie Saab Spring-Summer 2023 runway and a relaxing sense of lightness that was different from what we have often seen from Elie Saab. While usually filled with heavier embellishments and sequins. This new collection of soft silhouettes feels like a breath of fresh air. Dresses with delicately detailed floral appliqués and flimsy chantilly lace illustrate the skill of this designer.

Comme des Garçons

Black, white, minimal but impactful by all means.

In every piece, the level of fabric was intensive and heightened. The sheer sizes of each garment, abnormal proportions, surreal shapes, lacquered lace and sweet floral jacquards were abundant. This catwalk was magnificently bizarre as each model walked on each more alluring than the one before. Models appeared to be wrapped in haute blankets in the collection’s shrouded garments. Beautifully weird is the only way to describe this work of art.

It was a season of bulky trims, bulbous gowns, dramatic elongated sleeves, and floral patterns that were ground-breaking.

Balenciaga 

The Mud Show at Balenciaga Summer 2023 Digs for the Truth Behind Fashion’s Deception. 

Kanye West made his modelling debut. The rapper and fashion designer, who now goes by Ye, opened the apocalyptic-themed presentation in a military-style jacket with a security patch and black leather trousers, Ye walked a mud-lined runway in Parc des Expositions. The jacket’s hood was pulled up over a lidded cap, and models followed behind walking the ‘mud’ runway.

A variety of dresses were featured, from sporty neck-hanging pieces to lame, glitter bombs pleated and dragging through the mud. Glitter dazzled on chunky clog versions of the Space Shoe, while slews of new track-like sneakers and the Knife Boot returned.

Valentino 

Could minimalism be making a return this spring? If this year’s Paris fashion week has shown us anything, it’s that the minimal approach always makes a big impact. In its latest show, Valentino moves towards purity, focusing on only the essentials, as the brand enters a more minimal era. 

It is true that Valentino took a more minimalist approach to the construction of its garments- but definitely not to the use of prints. Almost everything was adorned with the house monogram, from coats with trains to dresses with feathers trimmed individually. The colour palette began softly, and each outfit included no more than two colours at a time. 

Valentino’s tailoring skills were impressive; car coats from nylon with deep V pleats at the back, boxy double-breasted blazers with crimped waistbands and hems, boiler suits with crimped waistbands and hems, a black tech jacket — all came together in one motion before a stunning purple dress stood out.

Givenchy

Featuring elevated versions of everyday essentials- the Givenchy show was filled with understated pieces that beautifully frame a woman’s figure. Matthew M Williams delivered subtlety and grace. Accompanying classical music, down the runway were feminine stilettos with lace work, tiny bags were consistent, work pants and biker jackets and even cargo shorts all came alongside the elegance. The last set of looks were floor-length dresses, classic silhouettes with feathering detail accented by minimalistic cut-outs. As a result, the new collection consolidated much of what Matthew M Williams has been doing at Givenchy for many seasons, and as a result, he has finally established his own aesthetic.

Stella McCartney 

Known for her loud stance on animal rights within the fashion industry and for being an eco-activist. This season saw Stella McCartney’s most ‘nature-positive collection yet- with 87% of the fabrics worn on the runway at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, made with recyclable materials. 

Using silhouettes and features like asymmetric bias cuts, giant visor-style sunglasses, racer tank straps, crystal cut-out embroidery, and body chains, the collection also mined McCartney’s history and even her “late-90s time at Chloé.

The collection merged McCartney’s basic design with a playful sensuality, as the asymmetrical shapes and cuts offered a fun and formal collision to the clothes. With glimpses of body jewellery, chains and crystals hiding under jackets and T-shirt dresses.

Chanel 

A sultry performance with a touch of old Hollywood glamour for spring/summer was presented by Chanel’s Virginie Viard. A collection inspired by Alain Resnais’ Last Year in Marienbad (1961) film. This season, Chanel brings sophisticated allure, modernity, and lightness with a collection that explores a woman’s freedom of movement and expression.

The garments were elevated, transitioning from tweed minidresses and loose-fitting suits to shimmery gold gowns and sweeping skirts. From the chicest suits to the iconic Chanel tailored cardigan jackets; the catwalk was lined with pieces displaying every design element and fragment associated with the house. 

The designer kept accessories minimal, using only a few handbags and sparingly using gold chains, but incorporated sparkle and feathers in other looks.

Viard has created an exceptionally beautiful collection. Light, nuanced and distinctly present.

Louis Vuitton 

All fun and games as Louis Vuitton delved into childhood memories for the house’s spring/summer collection, which also marked an end to Paris fashion week. The colourful and youthful collection had some sophisticated looks beyond the obvious gimmicks, with a playful, contemporary approach to regal dress. Designer Nicolas Ghesquière let his imagination run wild with the theme of upsizing. Models walked the runway with giant zippers accompanied by even bigger Monogram “hand”-bags and huge bow collars, clownish buttons, and unfurling leather sections that were reminiscent of “Honey I Shrunk the Kids”. 

Yet there is something deeper in the odd proportions and loud silhouettes featured in this collection. Ghesquière said he was using the scale as a tool to challenge female stereotypes. “Pretty tough, that was something we were talking about, and threatening beauty. The idea was to look at something pretty, something sweet, and to see in those elements what strength they have,” says the designer.

Victor Weinsanto

Paris Fashion Week got underway on Monday with Victor Weinsanto, a protege of Jean-Paul Gaultier. The designer’s collection was a walking dedication to his muses. Models walked the runway in garments displaying the influences of his close artistic friends, interpreted with the Weinsanto touch, of course.

Weinsanto said his collection is a “declaration of love” to his generation, inspired by fellow young designers. Yet, a night of folly is what comes to mind in this spring collection. A general lighter colour palette was complemented by dashes of upbeat oranges, greens and yellows. He continues to work with his best sellers, like the bomber jacket, jeans, sweats, and dungarees, which are all mixed with extravagant couture pieces. His cabaret proclivities were on full display, as models strutted in wore no little more than embroidered rope detailing. But interspersed between sheer garments and lashed corset dresses were terrific coatdresses, a trend that seems to be sweeping Europe.

Benjamin Benmoyal 

“Using nostalgia to create something new and desirable” 

A collection inspired by his personal history in the army, Benjamin Benmoyal’s runway, filled with floral upcycled spring looks, transcribes innocence and serenity. 

The creative director created unique fabrics by weaving his childhood VHS Disney movie tapes. Benmoyal states that this is an “allegory of the will to recover the innocence stolen by the army.” 

This collection also draws influence from traditional Moroccan clothes from the 30s. In his collection, Benmoyal reinterprets the volumes and drapes of traditional Moroccan outfits. Alongside caftans and loose shirts punctuated with bold stripes and multicoloured buttons were jacquards inspired by the works of Monet.

Vaquera

This year Vaquera, led by Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee, took over DSM’s Parisian grounds with an androgynous perspective in mind.

Its rugged appeal came through angular boat hats with cascading bows that carried hints of Caribbean sailors. These were paired with acid-washed, cropped denim jackets, voluminous skirts, and metallic corsets. The garments were tattered yet refined, and keys dangled from them along with fluffy teddy bears. Flowing dresses were paired with satin sets accented with jumbo lapels, ruffles, centre ribbons and swaying chain belts. 

Although in the fashion capital of Europe, the duo’s showstopping piece celebrated their home turf with a rebellious American flag dress that draped down the model.

Botter

Botter has flourished over the past few seasons. The label is known for its fusion of couture and sporty motifs into flirtatious ensembles that are based on rich Caribbean references.

This season, Botter pays homage to Mother Earth by using oceanic references and a lot of water (literally). This collection is characterised by vibrant blue hues, contrasting blacks, browns, oranges and greys. The first look set the tone for this collection as the model walked the runway in a tucked-in blazer and undershirt paired with ever so slightly loose trousers. The earthy brown and ocean blue- symbolise the colours of the earth. What filled the audience with surprise was that the model’s hands were inside water-filled condoms. 

“We really want to bring water to the runway,” Botter said. “Our thinking was how can we collaborate with nature and not with another fashion brand? This is something that we’ve tried to research deeper and deeper every season.”

Their silhouettes also kept the ocean at the forefront of this collection. 

A slim-fit T-shirt features playful dolphins and coastal scenes adorned with rhinestones, while slip dresses feature deep-sea graphics and button-up shirts feature cartoon sea life. As an extra layer of protection, knitted face masks supplement belted jumpsuits or peeled coats made of protective neoprene, akin to wetsuits.

Mame Kurogouchi

As inspiration for the Spring Summer 2023 Collection, Mame Kurogouchi draws on the rich tradition of bamboo baskets. This collection explores the changing weaving techniques developed in bamboo baskets throughout their evolution, as well as the tension, force, and tranquillity within the material itself. A champion of Japanese craft, Kurogouchi inherited this attitude from her mentor, the late Issey Miyake. 

A poetic interpretation of bamboo baskets was showcased on this runway, from intricately embroidered vests to sheer ensembles and a sculptural top made with sakiori rag weaving dyed in dark shades of blackened brown.

Victoria/Tomas

In celebration of the brand’s tenth anniversary, Victoria/Tomas unveiled its Spring/Summer 2023 collection at Paris Fashion Week.

This season Victoria/Tomas’ collection is a blend of streetwear and seductive. 

Tone-on-tone heart appliqués adorned straight-cut khaki jackets, giving them a cute touch to utilitarian shapes. The collection also featured a series of mini dresses made of scraps from previous collections embellished with vertical stripes and an edgy bomber jacket adorned with tulle and sequins. With a base of classic black, the colour palette features several blue hues, pinks, greens, and yellows, along with neutral tans.

Dior 

An enchanting show in an equally magical location in Paris.

Maria Grazia Chiuri showed off her SS23 ready-to-wear collection from Dior during Paris Fashion Week and was inspired by women in power. Using silhouettes, structure, technical advancements in fabric manipulation, and more to accentuate the wearer and their body, Dior’s collection made a feminist statement this season with a tribute to Catherine de Medici.

There can be no doubt that the collection contains many details dating back to Catherine de Medici’s time. The quasi-geometric corsets, wide skirts and dresses and the luxurious lace are directly linked to her recognisable court costumes. The collection stays true to the Baroque era’s styling motifs. 

In the Baroque period, women’s fashion evolved to incorporate darker colours and more flamboyant patterns that embraced their natural curves.

Grazia Chiuri’s short and long dresses were inspired by the flowing lines and movement of the gowns of that era. Most looks in the collection were white, black, off-white, gold, and floral in colour, following the Baroque style. 

An extra unique and spectacular detail of the Dior show every year is the location. From a huge hill with lavender flowers to the Greek Olympic stadium to the middle of the desert. Dior makes impossible dreams come true and transforms every location into a real theatre. This year the site was an exceptional link to the source of inspiration for the collection. The show took place in the middle of the Jardin des Tuileries, built-in 1553 by order of Catherine herself. The gardens were transformed into a fairy-tale, especially for the show, incorporating baroque caves that symbolise the inner landscape of women. Full of energy, dreams and illusions.

Pressiat

Pressiat’s collection this season is presented as a diptych.

A spring/summer 2023 show called “Suspicious” was shown at the Quartier Général, located at 71 Rue de la Fontaine au Roi. In line with the Besançon-born designer’s usual nineties references, the collection was reminiscent of old Hollywood with platinum blonde Marilyn Monroe hairstyles and glamorous long tight dresses with exaggerated shoulder pads. A dark palette, cut-outs, and slinky styles dominated Pressiat’s collection. The silhouettes are both light and aggressive, through second-skin volumes, nothing but thin metal chains, pencil skirts and broad shoulders.

Anrealage

Intricate patchwork was the star of the Anrealage show. Kunihiko Morinaga celebrated the brand’s 20th anniversary with a stunning collection inspired by the designer’s roots. The collection used handcrafted fabrics bundled together to create mosaic pieces. 

This collection represents the Japanese designer’s passion for detail and his desire to push his art to its limits. Morinaga used 200 old garments to create some of the most sophisticated pieces of clothing. His collection includes ruffled sleeves, harlequin coats, skirts, and shirts made entirely of the same colour. Each garment involves assembling small triangles or squares of fabric from dead stocks or vintage collections, but the results are different. As a result, the trousers in beige or grey were reminiscent of marquetry, while the puzzle dress in faded denim squares appeared to be cut from a uniform, tapestry-like material. Morinaga’s show concluded with five all-black looks; subsequently, the designer made all the models walk again, however this time with their clothes reversed.

Koché

In her latest collection, designer Christelle Kocher teamed up with Google to merge technology and fashion. There was also an interaction between garments, as looks switched on LEDs woven into each garment, as boy and girl met—one in a sweatshirt, the other in a feathered mini. An enormous screen, which was paired with looks in this show, dissected the former stock market of Paris. An invisible hand appeared on screenwriting: “Do hoodies dream of beautiful sunsets?”

YSL

Under the Eiffel Tower’s beam, Anthony Vaccarello showcased a range of floor-length dresses and masculine outerwear that captured Parisian glamour for Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2023.

The YSL show was grand and opulent, with orchestral music playing as models walked the marble steps. It was leather jackets everywhere, but hooded dresses and a coat with exaggerated shoulders ushered in a new kind of sexy glamour. The coats were floor-length, and the dresses were fitted and cut from the finest materials. With this season’s collection, it is clear that Vaccarello continued the elongated silhouette of previous collections. Several looks were characterised by hooded chiffon dresses, which became the star of the collection. A sense of effortless sophistication is shown by sheer tank dresses, cashmere pants, and pyjama-inspired satin looks. The runway was dominated by muted colours like black, white, grey, maroon and mauve, as well as hints of blue, brown, green and chartreuse.

Courrèges

Hourglasses are a constant reminder of passing time; tidal waves are a constant reminder of renewal. Nicholas Di Felice was inspired by the idea of elapsed time, looking forward and looking back. Courrèges’ spring/summer 2023 season taps into the rave memories of its creative director Di Felice. At Paris Fashion Week, he unveiled a collection that depicts a post-beach rave scene that mimics the feeling of a morning after a wild night. The outfits were relaxed and featured light and airy tones. Flowing dresses and soft fabrics were in abundance. The set designed by French artist Theo Mercier looked like a beach evolving into an hourglass. The lyrics of the soundtrack complemented the theme of this collection.

Undercover

This season a common theme throughout Undercover’s collection was subverting gendered traditions as workwear cues inspired monochrome styles, which translated into slashed suits with flower details, bow ties at the rear and lace in the cuts of the garments, as well as trench coats adorned with flowers and beads of pearl. The show stopper, however, was a series of dresses presented in the form of orbital figures, each puffy and voluminous.

Dries Van Noten

Dries Van Noten’s stunning collection was split into three segments. The first part of the show introduced all-black outfits. Void of colour, we consider each style’s texture, structure and silhouettes. These began with an oversized jacket in a technical, spongey mesh fabric that’s fastened with a glass-headed pin in order to create a furled, succulent gather. Afterwards, emerged ruffles and less structured pieces. As part of the second segment, rustling paillette pieces and outrageously embellished cotton jersey T-shirts and skirts introduced colour, mostly paler and washed at first.  In the third part, the garments are injected with vivid floral patterns contrasting with the previously demure pieces.

Rochas

As inspiration for Rochas’ collection, Designer Charles de Vilmorin turned to the spirit of a summer dawn. The collection features silhouettes that flow freely, cascading ruffles and layers of ruffles around the body, as well as light, experimental geometric shapes made from silk, organza, and cotton.

Balmain

In this season’s collection, Balmain focuses heavily on sustainability with a collaboration with Evian, which Rousteing describes as part of the house’s 21st-century breakthrough via technology. Dresses are made using a single fabric woven from recycled Evian bottles, which is sustainable from the start and easy to recycle since it is a mono-material tissue. As part of the collection, Balmain presented full looks, including leather body suits inspired by Renaissance paintings, suits made of creased paper that welcomed a sustainable aesthetic, couture dresses woven from wicker, and other looks made of banana.

Chloé

In her collection this season, Gabriela Hearst focused on classic cuts and beautifully tailored jackets. The collection started with a soft opening. We were introduced to knitted dresses featuring cut-outs from recycled cashmere and linen blazers, one of Hearst’s favourite materials due to its pesticide-free harvesting. The mood changed to an industrial one: dresses with foiled mesh or knitted to look like perforations, and outfits in head-to-toe certified European leather fit for fancy factory workers became the trend.

Uma Wang 

The unique combination of ancient Asian styles with chic, cosmopolitan looks is one of Wang’s trademarks, and an impressive range of fabrics serves as the canvas for her creativity. This season is a little different for the designer. In her new collection, Wang harnesses the different elements of nature and draws inspiration from North Africa. The beautiful pieces are composed of a neutral palette evoking the emptiness of desert sand, while coffee-dyed materials add a sense of earthiness to some of the garments.

Rick Owens 

No less than perfection was expected for Rick Owens’ Spring/Summer 2023 runway show at Paris Fashion Week. With his gory cues and sexual motifs mixed with kinks and gothic glamour, Rick Owens is one of the most anticipated designers, season after season. 

From bold tulle ballgowns in his signature palette of red to the chaos of pink pop ensembles, this season saw the take-over of sheer as the catwalk was filled with skin-bearing styles- some of which even featured dramatically pointed shoulders. 

Rick Owens SS23 had a strong emphasis on leather; a shoulder-centric bomber jacket was paired with a white leather train and clear heel boots, while a snakeskin effect was used to elevate the look as the model walked with its crinkles cutting the leather.

Off-White

Virgil Abloh, the founder of Off-White, was honoured last year with a collection that travelled through some of his most memorable looks. Shortly after, Ibrahim Kamara, a longtime collaborator of Abloh, was named his successor. Today’s collection is the first designed by the new creative director, titled “Celebration”.

In a series of trompe l’oeil effects, the collection exposed parts of the models’ bodies through cutouts, purposely unfinished detailing, and sheer lace. The collection featured faded skeletons appearing on denim skirts, knitted polo shirts, sheer white sectioning and technical bodysuits. As the collection unfolded, the bones mapped on the body transformed into a cyborg, post-human silhouettes.

Isabel Marant 

As part of Paris Fashion Week, Isabel Marant showcased her Spring/Summer 2023 collection. She delved into the 90s and her roots to create this collection.

Marant emphasises her ability to reinterpret and remain timeless through this new release, reinforcing the codes that make her unique. In this collection, the designer revisits the low rise, the open necklines, and the camouflage pattern. With a mix of materials, this throwback to the past is complemented by leather skirts, flowing silk dresses, intricate shiny embroidery in jackets, and crochet for swimsuits and sleeveless shirts that add a touch of fragility to a show that is filled with rudeness and power. But the display also shows a hint of lightness in a primarily dark colour palette: blacks joined hands with earthy tones, complemented by floral prints in purple, orange, and multicolour.

From hair and makeup, to skincare, accessories, and nail extensions, when it comes to the notions, trimmings and hand-made embellishments that make up the intricacies of haute couture, attention to detail is irrefutably, vital. When these little elements of beauty are taken advantage of, it’s clear that there’s no better way to elevate when it comes to sophistication. After all, isn’t that what haute couture is defined by? 

This month, a series of beauty trends inevitably made an appearance on the runway. Fendi, Dior and Elie Saab glazed their models’ skin in gloss and glitter, an ethereal take on the glassy skin trend that proves perfect for the summertime. Swiftly followed by the prominence of the classic red lip at Schiaparelli, as well as slick space-buns at Iris Van Herpen and pigmented eyeshadow at Viktor & Rolf, this year’s beauty moments most certainly didn’t disappoint. 

Below, you’ll find all the best beauty moments that are worthy of your attention – whether that be on the catwalk, or the front row. 

Jean Paul Gaultier 

As the latest guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier, Olivier Rousteing, Creative Director of Balmain, honoured the brand’s roots through a series of nostalgic references. When it came to accessories, there were dramatic beaded necklaces, chains, cone-bras, and platforms, making the perfect partner for glass garments and tin-can inspired skirts. 

Models’ wrists were adorned in chunky silver bangles and large pearls, whilst fingertips were topped with extensions reminiscent of silver graters that drew industrial parallels with the classic acrylic manicure. Paired with ears that were laced with piercings, whether they be hanging bucket earrings or industrial bars, Jean Paul Gaultier’s show didn’t shy away from extravagance and exceptional attention to detail. 

Luckily, the show got even more exciting when the attention was shifted from the runway to the side-lines. Attendees such as Kim Kardashian stirred a media frenzy when arriving on the front row, accompanied by daughter North West, in a pinstriped beret, black shades, metallic cuff bracelets and a silver nose ring that connected to the ears before draping across the chest like a necklace. Wearing large chokers and a subtle nude lip, the duo’s all black outfits were brought to life by their accessories. 

Vetements 

Whilst last season, faces were obscured with masks, this season, in Gvasalia’s first physical show for Vetements, there were an array of diverse characters that graced the runway. Whilst of every age, gender, ethnicity and background, their hair most certainly took centre stage, drawing our attention (albeit momentarily) away from fashion and onto the importance of beauty when making a statement. 

Hairstylists Pablo Kuemin and Jody Taylor met with each of the models individually in the lead up to the show to discuss what their hair look would be, making clever references to famous movie stars, distinct street styles and the British punk scene. From neon buzz cuts to liberty spikes, the show told stories of Gvasalia’s earliest experiences with fashion, alluding to distinct childhood memories that, by extension, couldn’t help but make you burst with nostalgia. 

Iris Van Herpen 

Iris Van Herpen’s 15th-anniversary collection at this year’s Paris Haute Couture Week celebrated beauty in all its ethereal glory, centring around the metaverse and the ultimate impact that virtual fashion will have on the way we dress. As a designer whose niche is characterised by the analysis of modern technologies and how they will alter our approach to our attire, there’s no one quite like Iris Van Herpen to carve out a collection where each beauty look is just as transformative and hyperreal as the clothes themselves. 

Created by nail artist Tomoya Nakagawa, the multidimensional collection was complimented by 3D, translucent nails that twisted and turned upon each fingertip, and when it came to makeup, MUA Chiao Li Hsu’s work was just as exciting. The models’ eyes were surrounded with eyeshadow that was reminiscent of gold and silver leaves, whilst bleached eyebrows, the trend that has undoubtedly infiltrated the beauty industry as of late, stood in stark contrast to a natural, dewy base. 

Space buns have been a favourite for years, but stylists Olivier Schawalder and Björn Axén took them to the next level at Iris Van Herpen’s show. With slick, tail-like braids that crept along the scalp and over the models’ faces, each hairstyle was sure to impress, channelling that of a mythological creature that had been elegantly swept across the ocean floor. 

Schiaparelli 

At Schiaparelli’s show, British makeup artist Pat Mcgrath orchestrated beauty looks that struck the perfect balance between drama and sophistication, with contoured cheekbones, red-lips, and winged smoky eyes heightening the effect of Roseberry’s timeless designs. In terms of hair, stylist Guido Palau similarly yet subtly revealed his artistry through simplistic up-dos, often masked by large hats to allow the geometric nature of Roseberry’s collection to bask under the limelight. 

Attendees such as Rina Sawayama wore a black mini dress featuring a gilded brass jewellery harness in the shape of a mouth, whilst Hunter Schafer wore a black mini dress with a corset effect bustier and horn neckline. Rina’s eyes were coated in glitter whilst Hunter’s golden eyeshadow matched her golden surrealist earrings perfectly. 

Viktor & Rolf 

Viktor and Rolf’s show had a distinct 80’s feel that could be seen consistently, whether that be through the clothes, or the makeup. With exaggerated blazers and graphic stripes to captivate your attention, a multicoloured palette of pink, blue, red and even aubergine was gently painted across the models’ eyes, lips, and cheeks to take our admiration that one step further. 

Lashes were either coated in a fluorescent orange or navy, suggesting that coloured mascara is the next trend set to re-emerge. For those who aren’t so into eye makeup, mirrored aviators appeared an ideal alternative. 

Whilst ahead of the curve in terms of makeup, Viktor and Rolf kept it simple when it came to hair. Sleek and glossy, the models’ hair was often brushed back into a coif so that the eye makeup could do the talking.

Georges Hobeika

Lebanese designer Georges Hobeika returned to the runway this week as he unveiled his Fall/Winter 2023 collection during Paris Haute Couture Week. This is Hobeika’s first show with his son Jad Hobeika, who was recently named the co-creative director of the celebrity-loved brand. The father and-son duo’s newest release featured glamorous gowns with metallic feathers, ornate embroidery, dynamic cuts, and daring silhouettes. Unexpected cut outs marked the collection, with the models’ midriffs and hips on full display in some of the eye-catching gowns.  They also showcased a few menswear designs, including blazers, luxurious coats, and tailored pants in earthy tones, completed with Hobeika’s signature embellishments and pattern work. German influencer Leonie Hanne made a remarkable appearance, opening the show wearing a mini dress with metallic feathers and crystal embroidery.

Maison Rabih Kayrouz

As much as his style is about purity of lines, ingenious cut, and volumes as airy as they’re exact, there’s always an element of sensuous fluidity to Rabih Kayrouz’s design. In his collection, the Lebanon designer gives ready-to-wear pieces an inventive haute couture twist, while keeping couture anchored to a more IRL vision. Presenting sculptural shapes alternated with more fluid ones in both haute couture and ready-to-wear lines.

Rahul Mishra

Rahul Mishra called his flamboyant haute couture collection The Tree Of Life, recalling a banyan tree growing in the courtyard of his ancestral home. Proud to be the only Indian designer admitted into the inner sanctum of French couture, he wanted to celebrate this new cycle with an ebullient, opulent collection, “whose meaningful concept just felt right for this moment,” he said.

He captured the golden light of sunset with shimmering gold pieces and wanted to replicate the majestic shape of century-old trees. His collection mainly consisted of mini-dresses and bodysuits embroidered with hundreds of tremulous golden-thread leaves.

Alexis Mabille

“Do you think I’m a diva? Then okay, I’m a diva!” enthused Alexis Mabille, reprising Aretha Franklin’s quote as the headline of his couture collection. The French designer celebrated self-empowerment through his creations while proposing daring looks. “I didn’t want the collection to be coherent but embracing many different directions, like on a red carpet,” he mused. The designer touched on many couture archetypes such as long draped dresses, see-through black lace pieces, and elegant smokings.

Stéphane Rolland

Stéphane Rolland dedicates his collection to Barbara, who died 25 years ago, in a fashion show at the Théâtre du Châtelet, where the French singer from the ’60s gave her last concert. “I have loved Barbara since I was a child. It is bewitching, exciting, it is part of my references when I draw, “declared the French designer. The staging of the show will retranscribe to the guests “the emotion when Barbara sang in front of her public” he promised. He succeeded in creating bold silhouettes, using contrasting materials and 3D, sculptural elements. Colorways included red, black, white, and beige.

Julien Fournié

“I cried a lot making this collection”: French designer Julien Fournié put on a sexy and “ultravulnerable” woman in reaction to the pandemic, war, and rising extremism in his haute couture show on Tuesday. The music was dramatic, and the models, draped in figure-sculpting maxi dresses, looked slightly distressed with their tousled hair and dark green lipstick. Manta rays and jellyfish were evoked in the colours and elements of some of the dresses, to evoke both fascination and dread. As with many of the collections this season, most of the looks were ultra-sexy, with plays of transparency and lots of openings on the body.

Ronald van der Kamp

Each look in this fall collection was constructed from deadstock fabrics, archive scraps, and even old looks from past collections reworked for new customers. If the clothes adhered to the idea of conscious fashion —well, that was on-message too. “For me, it’s about eccentricity. If people know who they are, they become a more sustainable person, because they build a wardrobe around their personality,” said the Dutch designer. In other words: stop falling in love with new-season looks, and embrace the chaos of an upcycled one-off.

On June 2, Lily Collins posted an Instagram photo of herself and co-star Ashley Park in the City of Light, with the Eiffel Tower seen in the background. “Reunited in Paris! Let season 3 filming begin!” Lily wrote in her caption. Ashley posted a similar set of photos on her own page. “Those Americans roaming Paris again yayyyyy!” she said, tagging Lily.

Whether you hate to love Emily or love to hate her, there’s no denying that the forthcoming third season of the show will be its biggest yet — and you do not want to miss out.

Only a month after Netflix released Season 2, Emily in Paris Season 3 was announced on January 10, 2022, along with another exciting announcement — the show was renewed for a fourth season, as well. “Say ‘bonjour’ to 3 & 4! EMILY IS OFFICIALLY RETURNING FOR TWO MORE SEASONS!” reads the caption from the official Emily in Paris IG account. 

Who will be back during this season? 

Lily Collins, Ashley Park (who plays Mindy), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Camille Razat (Camille), and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie) are all expected to be back as they were all present at PaleyFest  LA 2022 to discuss the show’s upcoming seasons. 

Other key cast members expected to definitely return for S3 are Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Samuel Arnold (Julian), and Bruno Gouery (Luc). Kate Walsh’s character, Emily’s boss Madeline, was about to give birth at the end of Season 2, so we may not see much of her in S3, but possibly in S4!

The most recent big change to the cast was announced on April 11, 2022 — Lucien Laviscount was promoted from recurring character to series regular.

Laviscount expressed his excitement for the upcoming third season on Instagram, posting a screenshot of the promotion announcement and a few selfies from his bed. The casting change means that Season 3 might finally be Laviscount’s time to shine.

Emily in Paris creator and co-executive producer Darren Star has dropped a few hints about where Season 3 will take Emily and Co., literally and figuratively. Most recently, at PaleyFest LA 2022, Star revealed that Season 3 would place the characters outside of Paris, exploring other areas of France.

There have also been rumors that some parts of the third season will be filmed in London, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Season 3 will be a season of big decision-making for Emily, as the Season 2 finale left the show’s heroine at a crossroads for her both her career and her heart. Will she take the job offer with the newly-resigned Sylvie? Will she return to Chicago, fleeing heartbreak after discovering that Camille and Gabriel have gotten back together? Or will she stay in Paris, and try to start anew? 

And one of those tough choices includes Alfie. By the end of Season 2, Alfie has shared his unrequited feelings for Emily. He wants to take a brave step in their relationship, but Emily is caught in a love triangle. With the news that Laviscount was promoted to series regular in mind, we hope this means that Alfie will be sticking around, even if it further complicates Emily’s love life.

To make this insurmountable wait pass here’s a sneak peek of the set. 

The third season of the show is expected to be released at the beginning of 2023.
