Next in the collection is the Icy Nude Face Gloss – exclusive to the Huda Beauty website only and limited edition. “It’s a sheer, dewy PH face gloss” says Huda, the shade name being Frostbite and giving you a shimmery pink, duo chrome look, great for adding some colour to a no-makeup face.

The collection also includes three new shimmer lip glosses in the shades She Flirty, She Glitzy, and She Fire. All three a permanent addition to the website – so that means they’re here to stay, along with the seven other lip glosses already there. Glam Rock Makeup From Alectra Rothschild’s ‘Masculina’ Runway

Next on our beauty radar is the electrifying glam rock makeup from Alectra Rothschild’s powerful show, “Masculina.” Titled “You Are Wasted Here, You Are a Star,” the show made a bold statement about the societal position of trans people, declaring their undeniable brilliance despite a world that fails to fully appreciate them. “You are wasted in this world because we are not appreciated for all that we are. WE ARE STARS,” said Rothschild in an interview with Odalisque Magazine.

This fierce message was brought to life with an equally bold makeup look by the talented Dausell. Zendaya’s Villain Arc

Zendaya’s look, or looks, definitely didn’t disappoint for her first year as co-chair of the Gala. She definitely sits up in our top 5 after she shook the world of Met Gala fans on May 6^th when she walked the carpet twice. She sported two stunningly striking looks, Margiela by John Galliano for her first and never worn before archive Givenchy from 1996 for her second and both looks were styled by styled by the jaw-droppingly talented Law Roach.

She accompanied these looks with two corresponding beauty looks, the first channelling dark, fairy-tale villain energy. Tyla’s Water Droplet Nails

Tyla came for the throats of the Met Gala veterans at her very first Met Gala ever – and definitely secured future invites back. She stunned in a custom sand sculpture dress by Olivier Rousteig for Balmain. She fully dove into the time aspect of the “Garden of Time” theme by pairing her sandy hourglass figure with an actual hourglass as a “handbag”. 

However the part of the look that completely stole the show for us was her water droplet illusion nails, making an homage to her chart topping debut song “Water”.

Doja Cat was perfectly on theme, dressed as a teary-eyed sculpture that you’d find in an enchanted garden. She wore simply a wet oversized t-shirt, which accentuated her curves much like that of a sculpture.

For this years Met, twigs instead opted for a custom Stella McCartney look, worn over embellished crop top and matching hot pants and was quoted to be “dripping in Stella McCartney diamonds, which are lab-grown,”.

Ariana Grande’s Fairy-tale Glam

R.E.M founder and chart topping singer Ariana played homage to her fairylike features which worked perfectly for her and the Garden of time theme. Only Lana could make dressing like a tree look chic. With the help of her make up artists Etienne Ortega, she paired this Avant Garde look with a stunning doe like brown toned glam underneath the mesh of her look. He utilised his own makeup line, including his go-to Lana Del Rey lip combination, which consists of his Agave Glow Colour Stick in Petals in the middle and Soft Contour Lip Liner in Cinnamon Girl. 1. Christian Dior 2011 Fall Couture Show

At the Christian Dior 2011 Fall show, McGrath demonstrated her unique ability to create extravagant looks while stillmatching Dior’s overarching theme of celebrating ultra-femininity. The bedazzled look was sprawled all over Pinterest and other forms of social media.

2. Givenchy 2014 Spring Show

In McGrath’s work, we can how she utilises jewellery and accessories as makeup. We saw an incredible example of this during the Givenchy 2014 Spring show, where her models’ faces were completely covered in a dazzling bluemask with red lips. Their eyes were covered by mesh, making for a darker – almost haunting – look.

It seems McGrath works well with blue, as another one of her most influential makeup looks of all time featured this brilliant blue design running down one side of the model’s face. This abstract look accentuates all the higher pointson the model’s face using blue paint, resulting in a vibrant, lifted look.

3. Rihanna – W Magazine September 2016

McGrath also did Rihanna’s makeup for W Magazine’s September 2016 issue. The silver jewellery gave Rihanna’s skin a blueish tinge, while the exquisite gold ornament brightened her eye area, beautifully contrasting her brightred lip.

4. Versace Fall 2023

Versace’s 2023 show brought back ultra-bold eye makeup through thick black wings, topped with a blinding innercorner highlight. This striking look caught mass media attention and many influencers recreate this look in their own way. @jessiscg in TikTok went for a more subtle version of this look.

5. Schiaparelli Haute Couture Spring Summer 2023

McGrath was also behind the iconic Doja Cat look at this January’s Schiaparelli show. The look took 5 hours to complete as McGrath’s team hand-applied 30,000 Swarovski crystals to the rapper’s face, arms and head.

Beauty guru Anish Tamang recreated this stunning look in a video posted to his TikTok, pairing the makeup look withan all-black outfit, blazer and skirt combo.

While her makeup looks were show-stopping, her career doesn’t stop there. In 2015 she went on to launch Pat McGrath labs, boasting a range of base products, eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks and more. This luxury collection has been one of the best sellers at Selfridges since its launch.

However, this stunning look is only scratching the surface of Alejandre’s talent. He’s worked with huge names, such as Zendaya, Naomi Campbell and Lil Nas X. His intricate use of shapes and other-worldly designs make for eye-catching makeup looks, unlike anything we’ve seen before. He has a much more holistic, experimental approach to his designs, resulting in extraordinarily unique looks.

He never sticks to just one style and is constantly trying new things with his techniques and creations; experimenting with using face jewellery, chrome makeup, metallic makeup and has sometimes even gone for a more stripped-down approach, showing incredible versatility in his talent as a makeup artist. Alejandre uses face jewels to create patterns on the face that makeup alone can’t create. The 3D effect of the jewels adds a sense of ethereal beauty. He uses chrome and metallic makeup to accentuate the high points of his models’ faces and bodies, precisely analysing their natural features and selecting the perfect products to emphasise the desirable parts of their faces.

A lot of his looks feature some sort of wing on the eye, but he takes that as a starting point to create something so much more wonderful and different. A look he did on model Ashara, featured a pink highlight on the cheekbone, and browbone, and a purple highlight on her arm. The cherry on top was the golden graphic liner design which perfectly complemented the dark red lip.

These types of looks are slowly but surely making their way into mainstream media, with so many beauty influencers having a go at these eccentric looks. Diego Godoy (@beautybydiego on TikTok) shared a video of her recreating an extraordinary, butterfly-themed look by Alejandre on singer-songwriter Kali Uchis. Godoy perfectly captured the bright red embellishments around the eyes from the original look while also adding her own touch with the butterfly wings on her brows.

One of Alejandre’s more daring looks utilises blue glitter on the higher points of the face, red warm-toned contour for the lower points and a striking black zig-zag liner look to top it all off. This astounding, androgynous look seems reminiscent of the 1970s glam rock era, when David Bowie continuously reinvented himself, showing the world his flamboyant makeup and style.

His use of shadows and light accentuates some very unusual features, which almost seem to contort his models’ face shapes while still flattering them. For example, in one of his outstanding looks, he chose to put the focus on the centre of the model’s forehead, by blending out the green and red shades in a circular shape around the area. This was enhanced by the eye makeup, designed to look like spider legs running down each side of the face.

Phoebe Duverger (@phoebeduverger in TikTok) tried out one of Alejandre’s looks that was posted to his Instagram, featuring a unique take on a bold, smokey black wing.

Another jaw-dropping look by the 27-year-old makeup artist featured gold ornamentation across the cheeks, nose and jawline with a natural base. These types of looks have put forward the notion that makeup looks can be created from so much more than just cosmetic products. Simple jewels and embellishments can make a look complete without the help of foundation and concealer. His work goes to show how imaginative makeup can be. Classic and basic makeup looks are slowly fading out of the spotlight, and now comes the era of expressing individuality through makeup. Alejandre is one of the main pioneers of this type of approach to makeup.

Whether this type of makeup is your thing or not, it’s hard to deny the sheer talent of Raoul Alejandre. He’s brought something new and fresh to the beauty world and we can’t wait to see his work flourish even further. If you are on the hunt for an eye make up look that will blow people away then Frankie is your girl.

Below we have included some of our favourite Frankie looks that we think are beautiful. 

Disco X Euphoria

Save this first make up look straight into your make up folder! If disco vibes with a hint of euphoria and some dramatic eyeliner is up your street then this look is for you.  

This eye shadow look is giving drama and sass thanks to the combination of the glittery eyeshadow and the bold arty eyeliner. Frankie accentuates her eyes beautifully by styling eyeliner below, above and to the side of her eyes. She then adds in some loose eyeshadow by Karla for that sparkle in the middle. 

Frankie uses black eyeliner to create her bold flicks. We recommended the Mac or the Benefit liquid eyeliners for this look as they are super pigmented and  long lasting, exactly what you need from a liquid eyeliner. 

For that dash of sparkle on the eyes, Frankie uses the Karla Nightfall Opal Multi Chrome Loose Eyeshadow. This eyeshadow has a lovely sheer multi-tonal effect and is beautifully luminous upon the eyes. 

This look is super fun and very pretty! It would work perfectly when going to a festival, party or even on a night out. Whatever you have planned, this look will be sure to turn heads and create a stir.

Butterfly Eyes

Are we still on the pink hype? You betcha! This next look incorporates shimmery pink eyeshadow that isn’t just in Frankie eyes, but below them and on her cheeks too! She’s gone for a duochhrome blush moment and the results are irresistible. 

Her look almost resembles a butterfly. The arched winged navy blue eyeliner hugs her eyelids and the shimmering eyeshadow that continues on the corner of her under eye. 

To create the arched wing, Frankie starts off with black eyeshadow as a base and then goes in with some liquid eyeliner to bring the pigment and sheen look. She then applies some shimmery eyeshadow in shades navy blue and pink on her eyelid as well as using the same colour on her cheeks and under eye. 

For this look we recommend using the Mac Pro Palette eyeshadow for your base of the eyeliner and the Lancôme Artliner Eye Liner for a super wet and liquid eyeliner finish. 

For the glittery pink moment, we recommend the Charlotte Tilbury Hypnotising Pop Shots which is a sparkling rose gold eyeshadow that has a lovely diamond dimension finish. This product is perfect for this look as it is super buildable and can be made more intense for your eyes, but made more tame and double up as highlighter for your cheeks.

Vamp Soft Glam

Frankie has called this next look the Vamp Soft Glam and we can see why. This look is all about the red eyeliner, dramatic and sharp just like a pair of fangs. To create this look Frankie has used a mixture of crayon eyeliner and red eyeshadow to create the blurred but still highly pigmented look. 

We think that the Barry M Hi Vis Bold Eyeliner or the NYX Professional Longwear Line Matte Lip Liner would be ideal for this look. Lip liner and crayon eyeliner are both perfect products to use when creating a look like this as they are smooth and long lasting. It may sound alternative to recommend a lip liner for a eyeliner look but trust us, it can work.

For the red eyeshadow that goes on top, Revolution does a lovely palette that has an array of red shades which would be perfect if you haven’t yet decided how red you want to go. They also include a shimmery red in the Beetlejuice X Revolution Strange and Unusual palette that could be a subtle adaptation to this look. 

Alternatively if a ruby true red is what you’re after, the Nars eyeshadow in the shade Fatale is perfect for this look. It’s lovely cherry red and would look killer when worn in eyeliner form.

To make the eyeshadow look blurred and a little smokey simply blend it out with your finger or eyeshadow brush to create that hue look.

Frankie then finishes the look with a black mascara. This look is very striking and one we will be trying out asap.

This next look looks like it’s straight off the runway. Frankie has gone ultraviolet and it looks incredible. She has gone in with a classic extended winged eyeliner combined with sprinkles of ultraviolet eyeshadow dotted around her eye. This look is totally mesmerising and one that we think is runway worthy. 

Frankie glass and natural looking skin is what allows this make up look to pop! She has used the Milk Makeup Bionic Bronzer and the Espressoh Glassy Blush on her face. She then uses the Sigma Beauty gel liner and the Karla Cosmetics Insomnia pigment eyes for those ultraviolet eyes. Her eyes look ethereal and are stunning. 

By making her eyeliner longer than usual and with a sharp point at the end it accentuates her eyes and adds a daring and sassy dynamic to the make up look.

If you’re wanting a simple look that doesn’t require much effort but still looks effortlessly beautiful this look will be perfect. Styling a beautiful blue shimmery eyeshadow look, Frankie has made one of the most dreamy eyeshadow looks going. This look resembles an icy aesthetic and one that we are obsessed with. 

Any shade blue would suit this look as it’s super simple and easy to do, so whatever your vibe is, it’s adaptable to fit it. 

The Rimmel Ojos Somb Magnif Mono is a lovely shimmery eyeshadow that would look beautiful for this look. Alternatively, if you fancy a palette that has a variety of irresistible blue shades the Beauty Bay Midnight 42 Colour Palette has a broad range of shades perfect for whatever your vibe is.

Flames

Our final look had to be something special, and what’s more fiery than some blue flames? 

This look is super creative and arty so if you’re in the mood for something a little different, this one could be right for you. 

For this look you’re going to want to have a blue and black liquid eyeliner handy and some striking blue lipgloss to match.

We recommend trying out the flames on paper first as they can be fiddly to do. Don’t be disheartened if you don’t get it right the first time, they are a little harder than some of the other looks we’ve included, but we promise the hard work will pay off. 

For this look, liquid eyeliner is your best bet at recreating these magnificent flames. The Kiko Super Colour Eyeliner that has a lovely intense colour and is perfect for mastering that sensual gaze that Frankie is giving in this look. Equally, the L’Oréal Paris Matte Signature Liquid Eyeliner comes in both shades blue and black, so it would be ideal for this look due to its matte appearance. 

Finally, those lips. Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour would be the perfect finishing touch to this look. It has a slight glitter to the gloss which would help elevate this look and truly make it mesmerising.

British makeup artist Pat McGrath rose to fame in the early 90s, collaborating with the most iconic labels, photographers and models to cement her place as the fashion world’s most important makeup artist. From Christian Dior to Prada, in 2017, McGrath earned her place as British Vogue’s beauty editor-at-large after creating beauty looks for over 35 runway shows per season. Chief among her collaborators is Naomi Campbell, 90s trailblazer for black supermodels who changed the fashion industry for the better. The two have shared a series of iconic looks, including when Naomi debuted Mcgrath’s LUST 004 Glitter Lip Kit on the VMAs’ red carpet in 2016, (a sensational, sparkling red lip) as well as Naomi’s elegant lids at Anna Sui’s FW 2004 show.
