Karol G set out an electrifying night to remember as she performed her final show, in London’s sold-out O2 Arena, of the much-anticipated MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO Europe Summer tour. Energies were high much before the Medellin, Colombian singer took to stage, with a pink ocean of cowboy hats dancing and perreo-ing to Karol G’s supporting act, Agudelo 888. Hyping up the crowd, playing non-stop reggaeton bangers in a flawless mix, the Colombian DJ set up a spirited crowd for the arrival of La Serenita, Karol G.

We were met with a narration of Carolina the mermaid who, after much pain and hurt in the ocean, soars through the skies when suddenly her heart, along with the world, became cold and frozen. The continuous narration throughout the show symbolised the heart break Karol experienced and the strength she found to eventually realise that,

‘Tomorrow will be

beautiful.’

As Voir dances front row and connects with Sophie Castillo, the British and Latin singer who opened for J Balvin at the 02 Arena this year, Karol G enters the stage with her fiery dancers in matching outfits. Words cannot describe the lively and high-powered energy that emitted from the crowd as Karol began the setlist with ‘TQG’ in a head-to-toe blue and crystal diamante body suit with giant white furry boots and a detachable blue mini skirt that was ripped off to sing ‘Mi Cama’. Her outfits changed with each section of the album, with looks including a black, cropped, racer top, graffitied with ‘BICHOTA’ and, a baby pink, pleated, mini skirt with feather accessories.

But the look that stole the show was her penultimate look; Karol was a shining star as she sang ‘Ocean’ in a gold rhinestone, floor-length evening gown and a matching flower hair piece that sat on her bright pink hair.

Singing tunes featuring Latin artists such as Maluma, Shakira and Romeo Santos with her all-female band set a post for aspiring and developing female artists. Karol G and her team took a moment to speak about her foundation Con Cora, an organisation with the aim to empower and support other females, develop their artistic talents and increase their confidence. Con Cora’s four pillars are Sorority, Female Loyalty, Empathy and Freedom, a cause so close to Karol’s heart that she has its logo – a barbed heart – tattooed on her arm.

Karol G’s stage presence was unmatched last night, as she interacted continuously with her lively and passionate crowd. Talking to the standing crowd, she notices a fan from the night before who held a ‘KAROL G <3 BICHOTA’ sign, as well as a fan who had a framed picture of Karol G and herself in a previous concert.

To show her appreciation and love of the Latinx community in the UK, she ended the performance holding the UK flag whilst she previewed her newest single ‘Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido’, which will be released tonight at 5pm.

Karol G left us feeling strong, empowered and energised for the next chapter of our lives; proving to us that nothing can stop you from being your best self.

With billions of streams on her account and sold-out shows, Karol G, a Colombian music icon, made the last Valentine’s Day even sweeter for us, dropping her and Tiësto’s new single and video “Contigo” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCmp7AV8O9s). The video has already over ten million views on YouTube – but by the time this text reaches you, the numbers may well have doubled, as Karol G’s fans are very much devoted to their idol – after all, they ensured she became the first female artist to sell out the Estadio Azteca (with its capacity of 80k) in Mexico, for three consecutive nights during her latest Mañana Será Bonito Latam Tour. But don’t worry if you’re not in Latin America right now (you couldn’t buy the tickets anyway, as they’ve mostly sold out) – Karol G is to visit Europe this Summer, with two shows in London – make sure you note 18/06 and 19/06 in your calendars!

 Karol G (Carolina Giraldo Navarro) has earned herself a stable position at the top of Latin pop music. Just this year, having been announced Billboard’s 2024 Woman of the Year, she won her first Grammy for Mañana Será Bonito, in the category Best Música Urbana Album. In her over ten-year-long career, which rocketed astonishingly over the last few years, Karol G has published four albums, made collabs with Shakira, Nicki Minaj, Anuel AA, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Maluma, and Ozuna, and won many awards, including five Latin Grammys (three just this year), MTV Video Music Award, and iHeartRadio Music Award. Karol G has been lately conquering both the music industry and our Spotify accounts, with ca. 50mln listeners per month (48th position worldwide!) and her track “Provenza” reaching over 1 billion streams last year. With such numbers and her latest acting debut in Griselda on Netflix (playing Carla), the singer shows her career is in full bloom, and she whets our appetites for more to come in 2024.

 Her latest single “Contigo,” accompanied by a video, satisfies them (or, actually, makes us even more eager to see the shows in June!). Produced by WeOwnTheCity and co-created by Karol G, Pedro Artola, and Tiësto, the clip tells the love story of two girls (starring Karol G and Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko), who – in a nostalgic, bitter-sweet setting of the Noughties – try to fight for their love when facing hurdles. The song itself offers an irresistible mix of Latin beats, pop, and Tiësto dance music – we couldn’t imagine a better foreshadowing of the coming Spring and Summer festival season!

 The video will surely be a major inspo for those attending the festivals – with its warm, soft colours, pleasing sunlight, pink, glitter, and – last but not least – the iconic 2000s fashion. The clip makes you remember the good, old times of colourful, sequined crop tops, tattoo chokers everyone was obsessed with, jeans and camo mini dresses, butterfly hairclips, and shiny belts, much too bulky to serve a purpose other than aesthetic. It is mostly inside of an apartment reverberating with the Noughties vibes that we see the story of the two lovers unfold – them playing old-school video games, dancing in baggy, low-waist jeans, and taking photos with an instant camera. Every detail has been taken care of, as we see the couple wearing purely 2000s makeup – sparkly eyeshadows, glossy lips, and bright pink blush, accompanied by hairdos from the era – cute face-framing braids and pink highlights in Karol G’s creamy platinum blonde hair. The Noughties vibe gets even stronger once we see Karol G singing, leaning against a wall with colourful mappings on it – the associations of Rihanna’s 2011 “We Found Love” shots instantly come to mind.

Then, we move to a place even more reminiscent of the (as it turns out) bitter-sweet 2000s – a high school, having the atmosphere of Britney Spears’ iconic “Baby One More Time,” with a white-blue dominant colour palette, pink Converse, white shirts, bandanas, and baggy cargo trousers. It is at school (well, where else?…) that the problems in the up-until-that-point idyllic relationship arise, and the couple needs to split. They happily get to reunite in a 2000s club – with Tiësto as DJ, and his dance beats framing the whole clip and leading to a lived-happily-ever-after ending. It is in this final part that both the video’s couple and Karol G’s fans can carelessly immerse themselves in Tiësto’s uplifting music, inspired by Leona Lewis’ 2007 “Bleeding Love.” For Karol G, the love eventually stops bleeding, so that she’s ultimately able to sing firmly: “contigo” (“with you”) – and we can’t help singing along.

PinkPantheress, WILLOW – Where you are

‘Where you are’ is a track that was teased on Tiktok for weeks, creating an unmistakable buzz and anticipation for its official release as you flicked through your FYP page. It’s undeniable that the rise of bedroom artist PinkPantheress has been crazy to watch, and uniting with an artist as highly-acclaimed as WILLOW is touching on new territory whilst creating the classic PinkPantheress sound we have grown to love. 

Bambi Bains – Mistake

Merging vulnerability with an infectious summertime soundscape gives you the latest single from Bambi Bains. If you’re entering summer newly single, this could be your go-to tune, as Bains sings lyrics straight from the heart that we can all relate to; “going to dance you off my mind until I feel alright”. 

Megan Thee Stallion – Plan B

Meg took her Coachella crowd by surprise with this track, performing it on weekend 1 before ‘Plan B’s’ official release. Quickly, videos shared from the festival gained traction, with fans praising Meg’s old school Hip-hop style flow. Of course, her flow may be slightly different, but her hot girl persona stays intact throughout, giving us all a slice of much-needed confidence. 

Becky G – NO MIENTEN

Coinciding with the announcement of Becky’s third studio album ‘Esquemas’, ‘NO MIENTEN’ dropped, getting us all excited for the record’s release date on May 13th. ‘NO MIENTEN’ is equal parts seductive as it is contagious, sending a fiery electronic dance rhythm to us just in time for summer. With this coming as the fourth electrifying single release from her upcoming album, we are in for a treat! 

KAROL G – PROVENZA

Another track that came to surprise us this month, ‘PROVENZA’, shows us a side of KAROL G that we don’t often see. We have become accustomed to high energy, powerful tracks, such as ‘MAMIII’ and ‘Tusa’, however ‘PROVENZA’ offers us something completely different. ‘PROVENZA’ is delivered as a gentle, carefree and Latin-kissed track, which is further mirrored by the picturesque music video, which features women of all different body types embracing themselves and nature in a unique spin on empowerment.  

Erica Banks – Pop Out

Delivering unapologetic energy in its purest form this month is Erica Banks, proving she has more up her sleeve to follow her viral hit ‘Buss It’. Complete with a sassy and assertive video, this could be the anthem to soundtrack your summer.

Justine Skye – What A Lie

Serving glamour, pristine vocals and honesty, Justine Skye has officially entered her new era. With lyricism surrounding the topic of a partner’s unloyalty surfacing, this track offers relatability whilst also showing the strength that can come from a breakup. Justine’s vocal performance is mirrored with delicate accompaniment, really letting her voice shine. 

DreamDoll, French Montana – Ice Cream Dream

With old school flows and production taking centre stage, this is a track perfect for any Hip-Hop lover. Linking up with French Montana further encapsulated the old school vibe DreamDoll was going for, as the pair match their flows and lyrical matters to create a vibrant synergy.  

Blessing – The girl next door

One of the most promising talents emerging right now, Blessing, released her EP ‘the girl next door’, and we’ve been loving her unique sound. Our favourite track, Freak, tells the story of rising above the judgement of others, as Blessing projects “guess time don’t close old wounds”.

Anitta – Versions of Me

When talking about the top releases this month, we had to mention Anitta’s latest album ‘Versions of Me’. Bursting with huge hits such as, ‘Envolver’, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, ‘Faking Love’ and ‘Me Gusta’, this is an album with something for everyone to enjoy. From collabs with the likes of Saweetie and Cardi B, this ambitious album seamlessly blends between powered pop tracks, rap features, R&B and reggaeton. Anitta yet again proves why she is the artist on everyone’s lips right now.

BIA, J.Cole – London

We didn’t expect to hear BIA shouting out Shoreditch this April, but we were pleasantly surprised with the lyricism of her latest collaboration with Rap legend J.Cole. From synchronised flows, tongue n cheek lines and an infectious video that perfectly encapsulates the energy of London, this collaboration delivered everything we could have hoped for.  

Nicki Minaj, Fivio Foreign – We Go Up

Although this track dropped at the end of March, the video didn’t officially drop till April 19th, and we had to include it! Currently used by over 530 thousand TikTok users, Nicki’s unapologetic and sassy lyrics are proving to be some of her most popular in a while. The duo devour the song’s drill beat and super-compressed production, which comes as no surprise. The video further reinforces the vibrant energy of this collaboration, with Nicki rocking signature pink wigs and a whole wardrobe of extravagant styles, as the pair’s chemistry does the talking whilst they pull up in a pink Lamborghini, in true Minaj style.
