After a moment of absence due to an Instagram ban, the rapper returned to announce a new unexpected collaboration. As most of his fans were expecting a music or fashion-related project, Kanye West came up with a partnership that no one expected.

He announced a collaboration with McDonald’s that will focus on the fast food chain’s packaging design.

The artist has been working with industrial MUJI designer Naoto Fukasawa to come up with a new burger box, which he revealed in an Instagram post, announcing for the occasion that the rest will be revealed soon.

Yesterday, he has shared a post on his Instagram stating:  “Ye teams up with industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa to reimagine McDonald’s packaging” Ye had also posted on his IG story with the caption: “Next week it’s the fries.” A direct reference to his famous song “Gold Digger”.

It has not yet been announced whether this collaboration will be accompanied by other elements, such as a menu in his name like Travis Scott and J Balvin, and whether his new packaging will be limited or used worldwide.

Stefflon Don – Like That

We can always rely on Stefflon Don to bring the heat, and ‘Like That’ is no exception. Declaring that self-love is at the forefront of Steff’s mind, she sings “I ain’t met nobody hard as me”. This is the energy we will be channelling into spring 2022! 

MORGAN – You’re Worth It

In this affirmation anthem, MORGAN has us reflecting on our self worth whilst bringing a tropical beat to life. The video further champions the song’s message, with a diverse cast presented in vulnerable states at the start of the video, in contrast to the end where they are dancing and feeling more confident after realising they are worth it. With every listen, we take something positive away from this song.

RoRo – Ladies

Fox was born in Milan in 1990, where she lived for six years before moving to New York. Growing up in two fashion capitals, it’s no surprise Julia has made recent headlines for her outlandish style.

The 31- year old actress first made the spotlight in 2019 for her debut role in comedy/ drama Uncut Gems, where she played the love interest and mistress of the main character Howard Ratner (played by Adam Sandler). The star made a name for herself straight away, receiving breakthrough actor nominations for her impressive portrayal of the bitter-sweet reality of dating a wealthy gangster.

Not only is the star a talented actress, but she is also steadily becoming a fashion icon. Recently, Fox was in the limelight for her dauntless, femme-fatale ensemble of ultra low-rise leather pants, leather cropped tee, and leather gloves. She rocked the fierce look whilst attending dinner at LA hotspot ‘Delilah’ with her beau West and singer Madonna. The dinner soon took a turn, becoming more about raunchy photos than food, with Fox saying;

 “I wasn’t obsessed with the Caesar salad. How could you be obsessed with a Caesar salad when you’re sitting next to fucking Madonna?“

Last week, at the Kenzo fashion show Julia confirmed that cone bras are in this season. She wore a double denim cone bra with a daring ultra-black shadow that matched the star’s dominatrix inspired style. This was also the red carpet debut for her and Kanye as a couple, with their ship name ‘Juliye’ being adopted.

The couple then went on to attend the Schiaparelli SS22 Haute Couture fashion show, wearing all-black leather outfits that perfectly intertwined with each others. Julia’s makeup was just as eye-catching as her outfit, with a graphic, smudged intense black cat eye designed by none other than Pat McGrath.

It’s not surprising the actress knows how to make a bold fashion statement after Kanye was rumoured to have recently gifted his new girlfriend an entire wardrobe of Diesel attire. But the credit for the fearless fashion style of Fox can’t all go to Ye.

After working in the fashion industry before her rise to fame, it’s safe to say Julia knows a thing or two about how to dress. Before her acting days, Julia owned a women’s knitwear line ‘Franziska Fox’, with friend Briana Andalore in 2014. She created a collection that she described as ‘unafraid’ – a characteristic her fashion sense still portrays. She also dabbles in modelling, having featured as a model in campaigns for Diesel, Coach New York and Valentino, demonstrating Fox’s clear passion for fashion from her early years.

With a wicked style, famous boyfriend, and rumours the star may play Madonna in her upcoming biopic, we will likely be seeing a lot more of Fox in months to come.

After Covid related delays and cancellations over the past two years, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is back at its California home for ready for 2022. Announcing this year’s lineup on Instagram, Coachella confirmed the festival would be going ahead, running across two weekends in April, the 15-17 and the 22-24.

Featuring an array of star-studded performers, Harry Styles will be headlining alongside Billie Eilish and Ye (Kanye West). Other acts set to be performing include, Disclosure, Doja Cat, Arlo Parks, and Peggy Gou.

The annual festival will take place at its usual setting in the Indio Desert, east of Palm Springs, California. And it is expected that a bunch of trendy guests will be in attendance at this year’s event. Previous years have seen the likes of Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Hailey Bieber make their way to the desert to enjoy a stylish weekend of music and arts.

The documentary has been in the making for over 20 years, with footage from Kanye’s studio sessions and behind the scenes action spanning over two decades. The series has been branded as “a once in a lifetime three-week global event”, which will commence on February 16th.

During the trailer, we see that Kanye has been referring to himself as a genius since 2002, confirming our beliefs that West has never lacked confidence in himself. As the trailer goes on, we see glimpses from different parts of Kanye’s life, including footage from when he shattered his jaw. This is a moment of Ye’s life with much importance, as his debut single ‘Through The Wire’ was recorded and written whilst his jaw was wired shut. For music fans, this is going to be incredible to watch!

West’s lifelong friends and collaborators Coodie & Chike are the directors of the three-part film. When describing the film, Chike said;

“We’re crossing generations in three films. At the end, Kanye is collaborating with artists that were babies. But the crazy part is that Kanye’s a throughline; still as relevant at the end as he is in the beginning because his music passes the test of time.”

Netflix has also unveiled a ‘First Look Clip’, in which we can see a young Kanye rapping acapella with Yasiin Bey (formally known as Mos Def). Although the snippet only lasts 2 minutes, it exudes passion and enthusiasm, leaving us viewers wanting to see more. 

We can’t wait to watch ‘jeen-yuhs’ and learn more about how Kanye worked his way to becoming one of the most successful and talked about artists of all time.

The early collaborations between Kanye and Demna surprisingly trace back to 2015, with Demna aiding the design process of the first YEEZY collection. From their early partnerships, both designers have a shared influenced from streetwear, irony, and anonymity. Most significantly, Kanye and Demna share an obsession with the infamous Martin Margiela. Margiela popularised deconstructed garments, reworked vintage pieces, oversized silhouettes and overall upset the hegemony of Parisian high fashion during the 1990s.

The pairings connection to Margiela is exemplified in Kanye’s DONDA merch (available here https://shop.kanyewest.com/) described as ‘engineered by Balenciaga’. A plain black face mask references the Margiela masks and Balenciaga face coverings seen on Kanye recently, and the anonymity Margiela sought to create. Again, the simple screen-printed, long-sleeve shirts and black hat reading ‘DONDA’ would not be viewed the same way if it was not for the waves of 1990s minimalist fashion. The merch designs are simplistic and have faced criticism online for being overpriced. Possibly the number one thing shared between Kanye West and Demna’s Balenciaga is controversy – remember the £1600 Balenciaga Ikea tote bag?

However, Kanye and Demna have also proved they are both capable of creating impeccable art. Kanye’s albums hold critical acclaim, particularly My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, 808s & Heartbreak, and Late Registration, not to mention his unwavering support from a cult following. Demna has also proved himself, most recently in Balenciaga’s exquisite return to couture for Fall 2021. 

The DONDA album releases have become stages for Kanye music and inspirations to blend with Demna’s creative vision and designs for Balenciaga. Rarely seen steering away from his own brand YEEZY, Kanye for DONDA has been wearing head-to-toe Balenciaga. Wearing a wild, spiky, and hedgehog-like jacket from Fall/Winter 2020, Kanye played his album for the second time publicly. Also, the last listening party before the album’s release showcased Kim Kardashian, appearing angel-like, in the Balenciaga couture wedding gown.

The primary source of inspiration for DONDA is Kanye’s self-reflection on his mother’s death, with the album opening by repeatedly chanting her name. The album develops out of Kanye’s personal life experiences, specifically those of extremity, as his on-stage events exhibited – funerals, levitation, church services, fire, and finally Kimye’s reenactment of their wedding vows were all included in the performances. Through the abilities of Demna’s creative direction, these moments between a few people onstage can be transformed into dramatic performances and beautiful moments. Whilst Kanye and Demna’s creative collaboration accumulated in DONDA, we think it’s safe to say this is not the end of their partnership.

Motionless, emotive, and still: Kanye West played snippets of his long-awaited tenth studio album, DONDA, to 42,000 fans in Atlanta – releasing on the 6th August. Dressed in a sheer, beige ski mask (recently a signature of West’s style) and a red, monochromatic YEEZY Gap round jacket and vinyl pants, West participated in what can only be compared to performance art. He did not address the crowd or interact directly with the music – he stood still or dropped to his knees or solemnly paced. Though impending divorce, Kanye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian attended in support, matching the rapper in an all-red Rick Owen’s jumpsuit.

The DONDA-era aesthetic seems to return to 2016/2017 Kanye: oversized puffy jackets, with baggy jeans, and layered hoodies. While Kanye’s streetwear includes bold colours, the DONDA merch (exclusively available at the listening party but available on reselling sites) is earth-toned and a classic long-sleeved shirt, the typical silhouette of Kanye’s album merch. In the centre is the Mercedes-Benz logo (the namesake of the Atlanta stadium) and on the back is a childhood image of West’s late mother whom the album is named after. 

Kanye consistently integrates art, fashion, and music. His creativity is recognised in extending from music to designing for YEEZY and collaborating with renowned contemporary artists.

DONDA is no different to Kanye’s history of artistic influence: a reconstructed Louise Bourgeois drawing adorns the most recent cover. Bourgeois repeatedly considered the mother’s role and famously created Maman (1999), which she explained to Tate as ‘an ode to my mother’. Kanye and Bourgeois both had close relationships with their mothers which impacted their future creations, from Kanye’s ‘Hey Mama’ on Late Registration to Bourgeois’ six subsequent sculptures of the large-scale spider.

From Kanye’s early albums, his artwork adopts a biographical approach. The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation followthe symbolic ‘Dropout Bear’: Kanye’s mascot which shares his decision to drop out of college to pursue music. 

Blending contemporary art, recognisable merchandise, and musical production is an aspect of Kanye’s album release process. Kaws’ cover for 808s & Heartbreak snaps a deflated balloon heart, pulling it apart by cartoonish, white, gloved hands. George Condo for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy merged aggression, shock, and creativity for a series of nine interchangeable covers. In a desert red, long-sleeve shirt reading in an Old English font, ‘I feel like Pablo’, Kanye first played The Life of Pablo at Madison Square Garden. The iconic emblem came to not only be associated with an album, but also with a moment significant to his fanbase. He incorporates his merchandise to become part of the album’s era, as a counterpart to the music.

Kanye West is one of the least predictable people currently in the celebrity eye. His album art constantly changes in anticipation of album releases, but once released, it maintains coherence with the music. For DONDA, we can expect Kanye’s consistent meticulousness in creating an album with an encompassing aesthetic from production to artwork, to clothing

2020 has been a strange year, to say the least, and Kanye hasn’t managed to steer too far from controversy throughout, from running for president to ranting on Twitter the last few days he seems to never be too far from a headline.

Luckily, this time we’re talking about something less controversial as yesterday (September 15th) he took to Twitter to share a video of himself listening to Michelle Williams’ 2014 track ‘Say Yes’ which features her former bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. He captioned the clip “SAY YES!!!” later adding “We need to produce that Destiny’s Child gospel album.”

Although it’s unclear whether Kanye has had any contact with the group about the potential record, it seems a potential collaboration would be unlikely due to Kanye’s strained relationship with Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z.

However, that doesn’t stop us dreaming of a Destiny’s Child comeback backed by Kanye production especially after he showed his ability to produce a gospel record with last year’s Jesus Is King where the instrumentals were by far the best component of the project.

Destiny’s Child has been rumored to make a return since their brief reunion during Beyoncé’s Coachella 2018 headline set. Last year, the singer’s father claimed that a comeback was three years away. Kelly Rowland later addressed the reports, explaining she hoped it would remain a secret should the group return in the future.

The post ‘Say Yes’: Kanye West Brings Us A Destiny’s Child Gospel Remix appeared first on Voir Fashion.

This year has been full of unexpected and surreal events, but nothing could’ve prepared us for the latest news: Kanye West is apparently running for President of the United States.

During the celebrations of the 4th of July, the rapper and fashion designer announced his bid for the presidency in the 2020 election with a tweet in which he states: ‘We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States.’ The tweet was closed with the hashtag and the American flag emoji.

In just a couple of hours, many took to social media to either mock, examine or support the controversial tweet from West, making it one of the trending topics on Twitter.

While Kim Kardashian West’s reaction was to repost her husband’s announcement on her social media, Kanye’s statement received the approval of fellow billionaire Elon Musk. The 43-year-old rapper was recently captured with Musk in a glamour shot following the announcement of his partnership with Gap for his own Yeezy clothing line. The Tesla CEO wrote in a tweet: ‘You have my full support!’.

West had already shown interest in the presidential elections in the past: at the 2015 MTV VMAs, he declared his intention to participate in the race and reaffirmed it numerous times, stating that he would make a definitive bid for the White House in 2024.

Since Trump’s elections, both Kanye and Kim have spent time close to the White House. The rapper was also seen many times wearing the infamous red MAGA hat in support of President Trump, as well as being photographed with him at various public events.

Most people remain skeptical about his decision. There is much evidence to suggest that Kanye is not entirely serious: with no more than six months before the general election, it is simply too late for him to enter the Democratic primaries. And as revealed by Bloomberg, Kanye doesn’t appear to have filed any forms with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) that would enable him to self-candidate for the office.

Between the speculation of a new album promotion cycle and votes manipulation, people will just have to wait and see. With the pandemic as background, the news of a possible new candidate have made 2020 even more bizarre and ‘surprising’ to say the least.

On Thursday the 25th of June Kanye West’s brand Yeezy inked a multi-year deal with Gap. The agreement that is claimed to last for 10 years came as a surprise to many. The deal consists of a co-branded line of apparel to be released in 2021.

Yeezy the brand is a fashion collaboration between Kanye West and Adidas formed in 2013. The brand produces shoes in collaboration with the Adidas brand. The brand also has a separate apparel business under the same name that garnered attention for their monotone coloured sweatshirts, biker shorts and sweatpants. As of 2019, the brand generated around 1.3 billion in revenues and is one of the most influential contemporary fashion brands out there.

GAP is an American worldwide clothing retailer founded in 1969 by Donald Fisher and Doris Fisher. However, what once stood as a symbol of mass-market American heritage is now a struggling empire victim of the Darwinism effect brought by the internet where e-commerce and social media the threat of extinction. This was seen in the year ending the 1st of February report where the brand displayed a 10% drop in sales. Although this was not something they couldn’t recover from, the nail on the cross came in the form of an unpredictable pandemic that affected the entire fashion sector. But for a brand that is primarily distributed through brick and mortar, this led to a closure of 3300 stores and furlough of 80,000 employees not to mention the 43% drop in first-quarter sales as of June.

Upon further scrutinization, this deal seems to serve both players. The deal is seen to be a saving grace for GAP a company in need of revenue and hype. For the Yeezy brand, it offers a chance of diversification of the Yeezy into a more affordable market, further increasing the customer base of the brand. The New York Times reports that Gap estimates the Yeezy Gap brand will generate $1 billion in annual sales in five years.

The Yeezy Gap apparel will be available in gap stores worldwide and on its website. The collection will consist of apparel for men women and children to be priced at current GAP affordable prices. West hired Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi as creative director.

We look forward to the collaboration of the American contemporary and American heritage brands.
