Charli herself envisions a “pack of cigs, a Bic lighter and a strappy white top with no bra” as a Brat aesthetic, suggesting that it is what you make it, it’s a look defined by the interpreter, and is therefore un-definable and unique to all.

In a modern society raised by Bratz dolls and Kesha; edgy, bold looks highlighted in lime green have been long-awaited and Chris Horan, stylist to Charli XCX, is paving the way.

Club culture streetwear seen on It Girls Julia Fox, Gabbriette, and Chloe Cherry promote a grungy and unmistakenly fun look that speaks out against over-consumerism and performative entitlement through rejecting the notion that wealth = clean = sustainable (and therefore something to desire). The Brat movement instead demonstrates that messy, free, and unique is the key to being unapologetically yourself.

So how can you look like Josh Safdie’s muse when he wrote Uncut Gems? Brands such as Colour Pop Cosmetics were quick to promote their lime-green products, namely their eye-palette shade Mary Jane, on their TikTok account while other brands Adanola and Kate Spade have also recently showcased their green products to ensure their consumers are ‘so Julia’.

But what about the basics? While a Brat uniform would not be keeping in-tone with the movement, we could all benefit from broadening our wardrobe to encompass some quintessential Brat style, namely: edgy, square-rimmed sunglasses, a sticky Y2K lip gloss, knee-high boots (ideally worn with ripped fishnets), and most importantly: wearing your attitude high and your inhibitions low.

]]> When thinking up new make-up ideas to style whatever the occasion may be, sometimes it can be a little difficult or simply, we can have a blank mind. If that’s the case and you are running out of ideas for your next full glam moment don’t stress, we’ve got you.  

Below we have created a lookbook of some eye-catching make-up looks that have at least one bold feature that will be sure to catch your attention.  

Honey Glam  

Our first look resembles a lovely soft honey glam that has beautiful warm undertones and is undeniably flattering. Styling a faint fox eye, this look uses the art of a soft cut crease combined with brown eyeshadow to widen the eyes and give a subtle fox eye look. The model’s eyebrows are left looking very natural, only slightly in alongside a lovely soft contour that has a rosy blusher on top.  

This look is effortlessly beautiful and is perfect for a day out or a fancy dinner, it’s very versatile. To finish the look, the model styled a brown glossy lip.  

This look is all about a soft glam aesthetic, so we recommend the Mac Amber Times 9 eyeshadow palette for some lovely warm brown and neutral eyeshadows. For a soft dewy contour look, we recommend using a cream contour or a dark shade of concealer to create a dewy and flawless contour. This will help the products blend and melt into your skin effortlessly.  

The award-winning Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand would be perfect to use or the Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer, as well as the Fenty Match Stix Skinstick.  

To finish, the Fenty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer does a lovely brown shade that is super glossy and super pigmented and would be the perfect finishing touch to this look.  

Julia in Red  

Leave it to Julia Fox to throw us a bold sassy look, and for this one, she didn’t disappoint. Julia rocked eye-catching red hair matched with her red eyebrows, eyeliner and bitten red lips.  

Julia’s lips emulate a bitten lip look where she has pigmented lip liner and next to nothing on her actual lips just simply a gloss.  We personally prefer a cream lip liner as it’s smoother on application and lasts longer. So, for this look, we recommend using either the Kylie Cosmetics Beau Lip Liner or the Dior Contour Lip Liner. For a more budget-friendly option, the Rimmel London Exaggerate Lip is a perfect option.  

For the red eyebrows and the matching red eyeliner, the Barry M Hi-Vis Bold Waterproof Eyeliner in shade False Alarm is a great product that would be perfect for this look.  

Old Hollywood 

If the Hollywood aesthetic is your kind of thing, then check out Madelyn Cline and Nicola Peltz Beckham’s sexy make-up looks. These looks are effortlessly beautiful and show off a glamorous potent red lip. It screams old Hollywood glamour and is very sophisticated and classy.  

The main feature of these looks is their red lips, so we’ve included a few red lip options that will suit any budget and any aesthetic.  

For lovers of classic red lipstick, the L’oreal Paris Rich Satin Smooth Lipstick is a beautifully pigmented lipstick that would look incredible. The Dior Rouge Lipstick has four different finishes to choose from, satin, matte, metallic and new velvet. The Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G ‘So Red’ is a lipstick previously called ‘So Marilyn’ and is a perfect lipstick for the Marylin Monroe old Hollywood aesthetic, just like the name states.  

Nicola gives off a more Snow White x Marylin Monroe look rather than Madelyn so if you prefer her aesthetic more then we recommend using minimal contour and a very coral pink blush to create that almost cold winter look.  

The Dior Backstage Glow in shade Coral would be perfect for this vibe or similarly, the Benefit Sunny coral Blush would resemble the Snow White cold makeup look. The Too Faced Cloud Crush Blush in Tequila Sunset is another great blush that matched Nicolas’s vibe perfectly.  

Dark Feminine Lips  

If you like the old Hollywood vibe but want to trade your Marylin Monroe look for something a little more seductive and with a dash of dark feminine then this next look will be right up your street.  

Munroe Bergdorf styled a coppery gold eyeshadow look with a dark burgundy red lip. To achieve this lip, you would want to use a dark lip liner, maybe a dark red or brown. Having a darker lip liner allows the red to appear more seductive and alluring.   

The Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat lip liners are gorgeous, and the shades Hollywood Honey and Warm Scarlet would be beautiful to style for this look. The Revolution Satin Kiss Lip Liner in TGIF is a lovely creamy brown that would be ideal to help achieve that dark feminine aesthetic.  

For that pop of red, the Bobby Brown Crushed Oil Infused Gloss in shade Rock and Red is a lovely pop of colour and is very rich in pigment.  

If you are after a matte finish the Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lip colour is a perfect lip gloss that has a dark undertone, perfect for the dark feminine vibe this look resembles.  

90s Grunge  

Our last look is for all those 90s fans out there. If you’re a lover of simple make-up looks accompanied by thin eyebrows and a matte lip, you’ll love this next look we have lined up. Styled by Gabbriette, this look is about clean grunge eyes, dark lip liner and thin brows.  

If you haven’t already got thin eyebrows don’t fret, we recommend you use concealer and soap or gel to cover your eyebrows and keep them in place and then simply line them with eyeliner or eyebrow pencil. The Benefit Microfilling Brow Pen is a great product to use or NYX Professional Make-up Eyebrow Powder Pencil.  

For her eyes, she rocked a clean smokey eye that was achieved by having minimal brown/grey eyeshadow on her eyelid, dark eyeliner along her water line, and a small brown eyeshadow flick at the end to resemble eyeliner. For the eyeliner along the water line, we recommend either a gel/crayon or pencil eyeliner like the Illamasqua Colouring Eye Pencil or the Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Pencil.

The most inspirational fashion looks are not limited to those in the shows, with some of the best coming from the attendees and afterparties. With this in mind, here are some streetstyle moments from NYFW that you do not want to miss.

Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski attended the off-schedule Marc Jacobs show in an archival look from the designer’s 2014 Autumn/Winter collection. The monochromatic brown look played with texture from the sheer V-neck top to the jacket’s fur collar. She paired the look with a dramatic bob-haircut with a full-fringe that elevated the already chic look even further.

Julia Fox

Julia Fox is quickly becoming everyone’s favourite for streetstyle looks. Whether she’s doing her weekly shop in her underwear and knee-high denim boots or using duct tape as a top, Julia Fox always provides a daring look, no matter the occasion. And if those are the outfits that Julia wears when running errands then you can only imagine what she pulls out of the bag for Fashion Week. Fox attended the Seks NYFW party in a full leather look from the brand. The black belted micro-mini was paired with an orange crop-top and leather jacket with elaborate feather trim. The look was topped off with a grey hair look with provided a cool contrast to the orange details in the outfit.

Ice Spice

Ice Spice made her New York Fashion Week front row debut at the Dion Lee show this week and she definitely earned her place. Wearing a full lace look with Dion Lee’s signature cut-outs, this was the first of her many ‘best dressed’-worthy moments. She paired the modern outfit with a sleek old Hollywood glamour inspired hairdo, a styling decision that perfectly blended two aesthetic binaries.

Camila Mendes

This New York Fashion Week Camila Mendes took the ‘no-pants’ trend to the catwalk. Styled by Molly Dickson (@mollyddickson) Cami attended the Coach show in an oversized leather jacket with black high-waisted underwear and a bralette underneath. The look was accessorised with a pair of studded loafers and a bag. The decision to accessorise the look so simply served to emphasise the lack of outfit, creating an effortless yet intentional feel to the look. All in all, Cami Mendes really proved that less actually is more.

Aweng Chuol

Aweng Chuol attended the RTA x FWRD dinner in a blue Jacquemus dress with an abundance of cut-outs. The slinky knotted dress was paired perfectly with some chunky gold jewellery and sleek black accessories. At times throughout the night Aweng paired the look with a brown fur duster coat that exuded elegance.

Amelia Gray Hamlin

Amelia Gray Hamlin also attended the RTA X FWRD dinner, she however opted for a much more gothic look for the appearance. She paired her black maxi dress with sheer tights and barely-there heels. In fact, the only non-black element of her look was the large silver cross around her neck.

Julia Fox (again)

This would not be a NYFW Streetstyle article without at least two Julia Fox looks in the conversation, and so here she is again. This time Julia was sitting front row at the Dion Lee show, a fashion pairing made in heaven. Julia’s grey hair was the perfect accessory to her edgy look for the fashion brand. Her heavily zipped leather skirt was paired with a matching jacket that starkly contrasted her hyper-feminine feathered heels. However, what stole the show was her explicit graphic tee that read “Starf*cker”, just when we thought she couldn’t get any more iconic.

Ice Spice and Lil Nas X

The duo that we never knew we needed; Lil Nas X and Ice Spice sat front row at the Coach AW23 show and all eyes were on them. Lil Nas wore a Valentine’s inspired ensemble pairing a vibrant red shearling jacket with a pink turtleneck, distressed jeans, red boots and a bag to match. Ice Spice, however, went down the preppy route wearing a varsity inspired A-line dress that contrasted her extravagant diamond chain.

Leonie Hanne

Leonie Hanne brought all of the drama to the Prabal Gurung show this NYFW. If the show stopping strapless SS23 fuchsia and black Guipure Lace mini dress wasn’t enough, Hanne matched the look with a dramatic pink scarf that wrapped over her hair and then flowed freely behind her. The look was topped off with sheer coloured tights, tulle heels and a simple black bag.

Charli XCX

Charli XCX performed at the Saks NYFW Party in an enviable double-denim look from Ludovic de Saint Sernin. She paired the monogrammed lace-up dress with a matching denim racer jacket and knee-high combat boots. She accessorised with a black crescent bag and some futuristic sunglasses to make the perfect ‘New York party girl’ look.

Debuting today (October 27) is KNWLS’ latest campaign starring Julia Fox. Shot by Elizaveta Porodina, the actress has been iconised in a series of looks from Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault’s autumn/winter 2023 collection, ‘Precious’. 

KNWLS is intangible. The brand represents the not-your-everyday ‘It Girl’ offering extroverted attire fit for a vixen. Designing strappy and slick garments with skin-revealing cut-outs and an abundance of studs, the brand embraces edginess and futuristic design.

The collection, Precious, is inspired by cybergoths and scene-girl kitsch combined with the duo’s trademark moodiness and clubwear aesthetic. From slinky sequin mini dresses and denim slacks to strappy, barely-there slip tops, snatched corsets, knitted cardigans and sultry slashed mesh frocks, catsuits and cut-out tops—the collection riffs on a combination of uncompromising utilitarianism and hyper-femininity.

They dubbed Precious, the collection riffs on the hardened exoskeleton of cybergoth gals and scene-girl kitsch paired with the perfect moodiness of the duo’s signature clubwear aesthetic. Think slinky sequin mini dresses and slouchy leather or denim slacks mingling with slashed mesh frocks, catsuits and cut-out tops. While the studded v-line abbreviated mini skirts take on a grungy glitz sense. The fur earth-tone leg warmers, cuffed by belts just below the knee, give this collection a utilitarian feel to it.

In a play on contradictory textures, transparency, and proportion, Knowles and Arsenault distorted sharp, architectural silhouettes to create a cohort of heavily knitted jackets that resemble armour on the models. Certainly not a look for the faint-hearted- there is a noticeably darker edge to this collection compared to previous collections with daunting shades of taupe, black, turquoise and dulled ambers. Knowles and Arsenault said Julia Fox is “an icon of our time” who embodies the brand’s values, which are “strong, unapologetic and authentic.” Fox has been spotted regularly in KNWLS looks over the past year, so her involvement in the campaign feels natural. Now catch her glowing on the red carpet as KNWLS’ newest muse.

As poised and mesmerising as ever, Fox shows her daring side as she poses in a revealing black mesh lingerie-style co-ord to a KNWLS signature hyper-low, hip-bone exposing mini skirt. “The concept was about creating this chaotic, post-apocalyptic fantasy world where our woman survives and thrives,” say the two designers. However, there is also a new sense of rebellion and free-spiritedness surrounding the line.

“The collection is inspired by many of our interests coming together as usual – it evolved into something quite eclectic, especially with the initial inspiration of Fruits magazine and Harajuku street style silhouettes and textures,” Arsenault explains.

The contrast between sweet and spiky was highlighted by voluminous fringed knits, corseted biker jackets made of bespoke leather, and brushed mohair cardigans. “Our woman is more daring and unpredictable with her wardrobe. She’s an uneasy combination of ‘cute’ but…  equally dangerous, untouchable, and not to be underestimated,” adds Knowles. The designers also decided to make a short film to accompany the collection. Filmed in Essex and directed by Jordan Hemingway, the short film begins with models dressed in KNWLS strutting in a fast past, almost floating through the air, accompanied by choppy, breathy noises. The reverie is enhanced by fast-changing scenes, close-up shots of subjects moving backwards through multiple doors, and upbeat techno music.

]]> Julia Fox is a name that many of us have been hearing lately. Whether you’re a lover or a hater, amidst all the chaos, there’s one thing that certainly comes to mind – her eyeliner. Chunky and dramatized, the look has received a plethora of responses (both good and bad) on social media, with some noting the parallels the look draws with a racoon (yes, a racoon) and others citing Ye’s creation as one that will go down in history in the same way Kim Kardashian’s controversial Givenchy dress did when she arrived at her first Met Gala in 2013. From runways to Instagram snaps, there’s no question that Julia’s signature eye makeup has inspired numerous makeup artists, models and influencers alike. 

Julia Fox’s look catapulted her to A-list celebrity status following her attendance at the Schiaparelli show at Paris Haute Couture Week. Executed by Daniel Koranic for Pat McGrath, one of the most influential and sought-after makeup artists in the world, Fox’s graphic winged liner was destined to turn heads. From a PR perspective, it was an irrefutably powerful move. By inspiring viral TikTok trends, re-shares and re-tweets, Julia Fox has become a household name. After all, it isn’t the first time that eyeliner has taken centre stage. As the focal point of makeup looks in the 80s, graphic eyeliner can be traced all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. 

 When it came to couture, Chanel inevitably took a page out of Fox’s book. Their Spring-Summer 2022 Haute-Couture show featured models strutting down the runway in bold, double-winged eyeliner, whilst others had definitive black circles around their eyes. What’s more, although it may have been toned down a notch, the staple eye look has been a focal point of this year’s most popular makeup trends, with stars like Sydney Sweeney rocking dark eyeliner dressed in Saint Laurent from head to toe. 

In a makeup tutorial uploaded on her Instagram page, Julia Fox detailed how she executes the look from start to finish in a 17-minute video. Naming it ‘the fox eye,’ Julia lines her brow bone before sweeping black eyeshadow across her lids, seamlessly connecting the two. Employing eyeliner to achieve a more angular shape, a final layer of eyeshadow is then added to her outer lid and inner corners. 

From Emily Ratajkowski to Selena Gomez, our favourite superstars have rocked their own rendition of graphic eyeliner this year. Whether thin or thick, black or blue, Fox’s signature eye makeup has certainly trickled down into the mainstream beauty agenda, becoming a look you can’t help but attempt!

]]> New York Fashion Week has come and gone and we are still thinking about the runway beauty looks we saw. This year’s looks ranged from bare faces and glossy finishes to liners of all sizes and angles. Smokey eyes and bold eyeshadows made appearances alongside creative braided updos. Here are our top 10 beauty runway looks that stole the show.

Michael Kors

Irina Shayk strutted down the Michael Kors runway in a shimmery smokey eye. It was paired beautifully with a slick pony and a coral lip.

]]> Actress and model Julia Fox has been in the spotlight recently for her daring fashion looks and dates with new superstar partner Kanye West. But who is the star, and how did she make it to fame? Voir delves into the life and career of Julia Fox.

Fox was born in Milan in 1990, where she lived for six years before moving to New York. Growing up in two fashion capitals, it’s no surprise Julia has made recent headlines for her outlandish style.

The 31- year old actress first made the spotlight in 2019 for her debut role in comedy/ drama Uncut Gems, where she played the love interest and mistress of the main character Howard Ratner (played by Adam Sandler). The star made a name for herself straight away, receiving breakthrough actor nominations for her impressive portrayal of the bitter-sweet reality of dating a wealthy gangster.

Not only is the star a talented actress, but she is also steadily becoming a fashion icon. Recently, Fox was in the limelight for her dauntless, femme-fatale ensemble of ultra low-rise leather pants, leather cropped tee, and leather gloves. She rocked the fierce look whilst attending dinner at LA hotspot ‘Delilah’ with her beau West and singer Madonna. The dinner soon took a turn, becoming more about raunchy photos than food, with Fox saying;

 “I wasn’t obsessed with the Caesar salad. How could you be obsessed with a Caesar salad when you’re sitting next to fucking Madonna?“

Last week, at the Kenzo fashion show Julia confirmed that cone bras are in this season. She wore a double denim cone bra with a daring ultra-black shadow that matched the star’s dominatrix inspired style. This was also the red carpet debut for her and Kanye as a couple, with their ship name ‘Juliye’ being adopted.

The couple then went on to attend the Schiaparelli SS22 Haute Couture fashion show, wearing all-black leather outfits that perfectly intertwined with each others. Julia’s makeup was just as eye-catching as her outfit, with a graphic, smudged intense black cat eye designed by none other than Pat McGrath.

It’s not surprising the actress knows how to make a bold fashion statement after Kanye was rumoured to have recently gifted his new girlfriend an entire wardrobe of Diesel attire. But the credit for the fearless fashion style of Fox can’t all go to Ye.

After working in the fashion industry before her rise to fame, it’s safe to say Julia knows a thing or two about how to dress. Before her acting days, Julia owned a women’s knitwear line ‘Franziska Fox’, with friend Briana Andalore in 2014. She created a collection that she described as ‘unafraid’ – a characteristic her fashion sense still portrays. She also dabbles in modelling, having featured as a model in campaigns for Diesel, Coach New York and Valentino, demonstrating Fox’s clear passion for fashion from her early years.

With a wicked style, famous boyfriend, and rumours the star may play Madonna in her upcoming biopic, we will likely be seeing a lot more of Fox in months to come.
