The brand’s union was not a collaboration we could have predicted – Ganni is synonymous with stripped-back fashions, meanwhile, Juicy Couture is notorious for all-out glam. But, their differences- as Ganni’s creative director Ditte Reffstrup argues- are what makes the collaboration such a ‘fun and fresh’ drop.

To demonstrate this ‘fun and fresh’ ethos, the Miami meets Copenhagen collection brought garments that see Juicy Couture’s traditional velour tracksuits drenched in the playful logos of each brand. The tracksuits feature in a choice of traditional Y2K hues like tan and electric blue that reminisce the looks of Paris Hilton in the early 2000s. The 13-piece collection also features crystal-clad caps and mesh dresses- perfect for staying chic and sustainable this spring.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Ganni drop if the Denmark- based brand didn’t stay faithful to its earth-loving spirit, equally, it would feel wrong to purchase a Juicy drop if it wasn’t a vision of noughties glitz. So, in a compromise of the two brand’s ethos, their pink slogan tee (featuring a giant Y2K love heart and ‘please recycle’ slogan) epitomises everything both labels stand for, creating the ultimate union between the two iconic brands.

Each piece in the collection is made from organic recycled cotton as a part of Ganni’s responsibility game plan. The plan set out to ensure the brand works toward inclusivity, sustainability, and diversity in everything they do. And, after securing collaborations with influential labels like Ahluwalia and now Juicy Couture, it’s inspiring to see Ganni is encouraging the rest of the fashion industry to take on their ethical memo.

So, say goodbye to the days of relying purely on second-hand outlets for your sustainable Y2K fulfilment, this unlikely collaboration means it is now possible to buy brand new noughties pieces that won’t cost the earth!

Juicy Couture is back and it’s back in true Y2K style with an unexpected nod to the ever iconic
80s. With their 2021 Spring/Summer revival campaign a huge success, Autumn/Winter is here to
take a trip down memory lane right back through to the brands heyday, unveiling classic velour
sets and diamanté encrusted underwear, Juicy is here to add just a touch of ice. The collection
launches today, right in time for the cooler months ahead.

So what’s new this season and what will you find from the collection? Taking athletic influence
from the rink, head designer, Amy Gibson reveals how the vintage 80s undertones of figureskating outfits from the past were a huge inspiration for the collection. In the hope of creating cool
and contemporary pieces for the AW21 season, the infamous tracksuit set, popularised by the
likes of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, can be found in an updated style and sported in cooltoned shades like baby blue, turquoise and purple, alongside sweats plastered with the royal
Juicy logo. A nostalgic look back to the era that gave Juicy its name, monogrammatic prints have
made an appearance, while a tribute to the now provides graphic print tees and all over tie-dye,
proving Juicy Couture is just as juicy now, as it was back then.

Taking just the right amount from the early 2000s (the style and vibe were supreme …) but sticking
with the diversity they were praised for in their last drop (… the inclusivity was not), the AW21
collection goes from size XXS all the way through to XL and the campaign rightfully celebrates
women of each and every size, shape and race – how 2021 of them!

Making a name for itself in the early 2000’s for its iconic velour tracksuit, Juicy Couture was quickly associated with society’s cool girls. Think Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and J-Lo.

However, the brand’s original image wasn’t necessarily the most inclusive, if we think of the stereotypical size 0, tanned, white girl (ahem, Paris Hilton) who dominated its marketing strategies. Juicy Couture’s revival tackles this issue in its newest campaign.

Designed by Amy Gibson, the London designer who led Beyoncé’s IVY PARK collections, Juicy Couture’s 2021 rebranding meshes all of our nostalgic favourites with a contemporary finish. The humble velour tracksuit is still central, but we’re also presented with trending staples such as tie-dye, bodysuits, and diamante fishnets.

Gibson also put a very 2021 spin on the collection by including vintage references. The designs drew inspiration from 80’s synchronised swimming costumes. Although not quite the dramatization of Baywatch, the new designs for Juicy Couture do feature sexy plunging necklines, bodycon dresses, and the occasional over-the-hip-bone hemline.

The 2021 campaign for Juicy Couture is all about inclusive empowerment – the showcasing of real women and real bodies, not just the girls you’d see on the cover of an early 2000’s magazine. With a new Juicy Couture comes a new definition of the modern woman, one that is all shapes, all sizes, and all races.

On the direction of the new collection, Gibson commented: “The global vision for ‘new Juicy’ is absolutely anchored in empowerment… Our culture has moved towards different values: independence, ambition, and strength.”

The campaign successfully delivered this message through their selection of models, who include entrepreneurial fashion founders Taiba Akhuetie, Lois Saunders, and Sharkkana Pryce. The models are stunning in the new Juicy Couture designs, serving an attitude that would make even the biggest Y2K sceptic want to invest in some low-rise trackies.

It’s official. Gone are the days where every woman was a clone of their predecessor: hail in curves, textured hair, and stretch marks.

With its successful relaunch and 300% increase in comeback sales making Juicy Couture one of the best performing brands in lockdown, it’s safe to say that Y2K is here to stay. So, as Regina George would say, “Get in loser, we’re going shopping.”

The fresh pastel look is a statement waiting to happen, whether it be from a matching crisp two-piece suite to an oversized t-shirt and some joggers; a splash of pastel can transform your ‘kitchen outfit’ to a whole new level. The palette itself is very appealing to the eye, it goes unnoticed as it lures you in. It’s one of those things that you either love it or you are drawn to it; there is no in-between!

The pastel palette offers a range of soothing tones from lilac, baby blue to a mint green that can be depicted through not only garments but also via trainers, eye shadows, bags and many more to enhance your fit.

It can be seen that the pastel trend is highly influenced by Harajuku fashion originated in Japan; as it is bold and visually attractive. Although it is commonly associated with layering and standing out from the crowd, the Harajuku influence of pastel hues have unlocked a trail for many fashion designers and brands, that have transformed garments to portray less is more through pastel.

Needless to say, Nike has set high expectations for future pastel infused garments, having created the Nike mini metallic swoosh oversized pastel colour block hoodie and joggers. Its sell-out has made streetwear enthusiasts hunt for similar apparels, due to reseller prices being over the top. It can be perceived that this co-ord broke boundaries and opened a trend for colour blocking with a streetwear infused twist. To top the fit, Nike had also created the Air Force 1 Shadow trainers in pastel that had generated a gateway for the sneaker community as well.

Initially, more and more designers have interpreted the pastel trend throughout the years, such as the angel brand Fiorucci. This has made the fast-fashion sector drawn to the idea of pastel, by making the viral dynamic more accessible to the fashion sector. These can be found on online retailers such as Pretty Little Thing. However, if you are looking for original pastel garments head over to eBay to find a more vintage look.

Its lively attraction has set a reoccurrence in the fashion industry throughout spring and summer; it will definitely be back again next year with no hesitation. Its unique palette has submerged and adapted across styles such as tie-dye and loungewear this season, we can only look forward to what is in store for us next!
