With Lycorises Reverie, Xin Lue turns her famed blend of art and science to create a digital masterpiece. With media artist and scientist Nan Zhao, the 30 under 30 Asia member invites guests into a conscious-bending garden in different dimensions (with hallucinogen music to match). Journeying through volcanos, cyberspace, and alien deserts, viewers are inspired to probe the complexities and unfolding of our lives- our constant change and growth.

For The Dalmore, this embrace of the passage of time is reflected through their whisky-making process. 184 years after its founding, the Scottish distillery has turned its world-renowned mastery, excellence, and craftsmanship to the art world. For emerging creative Lue, she honors the single-malt craft through the color palette. ‘We drew from the colors, especially the amber tones in The Dalmore’, she said to Arnet. ‘I was really inspired by fermentation, this color change in the microbes from green to yellow as they are slowly dying. We incorporated that color change in the show as part of the story, when the flowers are going through a transitional rebirthing process.’

This cutting-edge show will only last until the 8th of October, so be sure to drop by 161-197 Oxford Street if you’re craving a little art– or a lot of whisky.

Even before the show was cancelled, views had dropped by over half from 6.7m 2016 to 3.3m 2018, and the brand was receiving a lot of backlash for its choice of models, ad campaigns, and social media. Victoria’s Secret’s ad campaigns came under fire from consumers when they appeared to be promoting an ideal body type. This especially offended the younger generation, who didn’t appreciate the hyper-sexual advertisements promoting conventionally attractive and often Eurocentric features in an attempt to appeal to the male gaze; petitions to change from their future customers doesn’t exactly make a brand look good.

Other brands showed VS up by recreating their campaigns with more diverse models, such as JD
William’s ‘#PerfectlyImperfect’ campaign and Lane Bryant’s ‘#ImNoAngel’, both featuring plus size
models.

As it failed to adapt to changing consumer demands, the show was compared to Rihanna’s highly successful Savage X Fenty fashion show, which featured plus-size models, people of colour, LGBTQ+ models, amputees, and pregnant women. One Twitter user described the VS fashion show as “the Super Bowl of bulimia.” As if this wasn’t enough controversy, sizeist and transphobic comments from L Brands CEO Les Wexner, a close friend of Jeffrey Epstein, were the last nail in Victoria’s Secret’s coffin.

The brand attempted to revamp its image by having a complete overhaul in 2021, with creative director Ruel Martinez telling WWD that the “world has changed.” In 2022, VS’ website claimed they were “committed to inspiring women around the world with products and experiences that uplift and champion them on their journey while creating lifelong relationships and advocating for positive change.”

This change has involved partnerships with charities, corporate restructuring, and replacing the ‘angel’ supermodels with the ‘Victoria’s Secret Collective’. VS CFO Martin Waters told Entertainment Weekly that this would include women who are “famous for their achievements and not their proportions”, including trans model Valentina Sampaio and former refugee Adut Akech. Pop superstar and voice of the people, Lizzo, asked Twitter users the burning question, “Do the CEOs of these companies value true inclusivity? Or do they just value money?”

If the brands’ diverse collective and increased sizes are anything to go by, the fashion show ought to rival Savage X Fenty, whilst still bringing the glamour and style of the famous event.

Conference of the People will be held live from London and streamed worldwide on 6th September 2022.

The unprecedented event will allow PUMA’s industry peers, activists and consumers to come together and discuss solutions to some of the fashion industry’s most pressing sustainability challenges whilst amplifying the voices of young people around the world.

Not just a pretty face, Cara Delevingne is also a keen activist, she said: “Together with PUMA, I have worked on sustainability topics for several years and together we have launched more sustainable collections such as Exhale.”

“It is important to continue the debate about this topic so we can find solutions to environmental issues such as climate change, waste management and biodiversity.” We couldn’t agree more!

Hosted by Cara, PUMA CEO Bjørn Gulden and PUMA CSO Anne-Laure Descours, the brand is compiling panels that will feature some of the most prominent voices in sustainable fashion along with some famous faces.

Topics for discussion will include tackling waste, using more sustainable materials, impacting climate change and finding ways for the industry to collaborate to achieve results sooner.

“We will focus on Gen Z during this event, as we want to give this generation a voice when it comes to the decisions that have to be made today to shape a more sustainable future,” said Bjørn Gulden, CEO of PUMA.

Recently praised for topping the Business of Fashion’s Sustainability Index 2022, earlier this year PUMA announced that it had reduced its carbon emissions between 2017 and 2021 and aims to make nine out of 10 products from more sustainable materials by 2025.
