Chanel celebrated a monumental milestone in haute couture with its Spring/Summer 2025 collection, marking 110 years of timeless elegance. Held in the newly renovated Grand Palais in Paris, the show was a tribute to Gabrielle Chanel’s enduring legacy, infused with modernity, craftsmanship, and a nod to the infinite renewal of the brand’s iconic design ethos. 

The collection embraced Chanel’s duality, steeped in heritage yet forever forward looking. Drawing inspiration from Gabrielle Chanel’s lesser-known love for vibrant hues and Karl Lagerfeld’s opulent archival palettes, the collection explored an 18^th century colour spectrum of sugared almon shades, combined with bold pastels and rich tones. 

“We’re celebrating the 110^th anniversary of the couture at Chanel. We had to mark the occasion,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion at Chanel. “The collection embodies infinite renewal, a theme central to the house’s legacy for over a century.” 

Crafted with precision, the collection balanced practicality with artistry, presenting youthful silhouettes that transitioned seamlessly from day to night. Daywear featured cropped tweed jackets, short skirts, and colourful satin linings, while eveningwear captivated with flowing gowns and intricate embellishment. Each piece reflected the timelessness of Chanel’s philosophy, where wearability meets haute couture sophistication. 

The colour palette mirrored the journey of a day-from soft pastels like mint green and mauve to the deep, dramatic hues of midnight blue and black. Signature Chanel tweeds were reimagined with vibrant linings in emerald green, royal blue, and purple, injecting modern energy into classic designs. Fabrics and details stole the spotlight, with sheer tulle, floral embroidery, and feather accents adding depth and texture. Prints featuring translucent floral petals evoked a dreamlike quality, while standout pieces included a yellow satin shirtdress with rhinestone buttons and a black lace gown adorned with feather detailing.

The collection also highlighted the meticulous artistry of Chanel’s petites mains. The delicate embroidery on gowns and the intricate hand painted floral prints showcased the unparalleled craftmanship of the atelier, a hallmark of Chanel’s haute couture legacy. 

The Grand Palais served as the perfect backdrop for Chanel’s ode to infinite renewal. Designed by acclaimed creative director Willo Perron, the runway’s Mobius band structure symbolised continuity, echoing the house’s iconic double-C logo. The serene, sweeping set reinforced a sense of calm optimism, an apt reflection of Chanel’s enduring influence. This architectural choice further reflected the brand’s forward momentum as it prepares for the arrival of new creative director Matthieu Blazy later this year. 

The star-studded front row featured a dazzling array of celebrity guests, including Kylie Jenner, Dua Lipa, Jennie Kim, Lily-Rose Depp, and Pamela Anderson. Each embodied Chanel’s modern muse, blending timeless glamour with a youthful spirit. Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture show was more than a collection, it was a celebration of 110 years of artistry, innovation, and timeless allure. From pastel sunrises to dramatic evening hues, the collection embodied the spirit of renewal while looking ahead to a bright future under new creative leadership.

In the words of Pavlovsky, “Chanel is not just black and white; it’s about continuous evolution. The collection is a testament to that enduring philosophy.” Chanel proved, once again, that its legacy is not just rooted in the past but continuously evolving, celebrating the art of couture with a youthful, modern twist.

Chanel’s obsession with numbers has been a dynamic, and fascinating one.

From the book The Perfume Of The Century by Chiara Pasqualetti Johnson, she narrates the close relationship between the icon and her obsession with numerology. 5 is extremely important to Coco, as she launched the perfume on May 5th, 1921, on the fifth day of the fifth month, as a lucky charm. Other important numbers to Coco, are those written on every bottle of the perfume: 1000, to indicate the number of jasmine flowers used to produce 30ml of perfume (but not any jasmine, it has to originate specifically from Provence); 12: for every bottle of perfume, 12 button roses are used. They only blossom once a year, in May. The last number is 33, which indicates how a bottle of the perfume is sold every 33 seconds (however, the source is not confirmed). And these are just a few… to keep the exclusivity and allure of the perfume high, the house hasn’t revealed all of Chanel’s heritage numbers.

Chanel and the number 5, which its production still remains a mystery, are inextricably linked. Firstly, it was her fifth attempt at formulating the product that made her the fortune, and was even a mistake for the lab to carry out that exact formulation. After WW2 and her various exiles, she returned to the fashion scene by relaunching the perfume on February 5, 1954. Once again, she was able to revolutionize the fashion scene, and accompany the most famous celebrities of the time. Chanel’s obsession with numerology and the third primary number continues, since in Chanel’s eyes it was the perfect mix between the masculine and feminine world, the sort of androgynous look that she invented in the 20s and made her so successfully acclaimed.

5 was Chanel’s fetish, becoming music in Igor Stravinskij’s compositions (she even financed his performances with extraordinary sums of money), and is even represented by the lions that protect her own tombstone – which she designed herself in Losanne. She specifically chose to be buried in Switzerland to give homage to the country that welcomed her from 1945 to 1952, during which she had to leave France for risking her own death.

The number 5 was in fact her talisman, a prediction that she discovered thanks to a psychic, which assured her it would bring her fortune. Coco was sure about it and started implementing it everywhere in her life. In her apartment, the number was found in the most unimaginable places, even between the droplets of her chandelier. Her runway shows always happened on the 5th of February and August, Chanel n.5 was her first perfume launched, and she was even the first to name a perfume after the number, or in fact any number.

Whether you still enjoy the perfume or not, its story is a remarkable one. Chanel’s passion towards making her vision come true as a woman of the last century is truly an empowering one. We are all in awe by her grit and determination: her ability to survive and resilience to thrive even after wars and decade-long fights, with the aim of establishing her dream house and sell a vision of true, unprecedented glamour. After all, we could all use a lucky number in our life, to remind us that any vision is achievable.

The tweed suit characterised by its material and also the structure of the garment. At the time the garment was designed most of the female clothes were mainly designed by men and the trend was form-fitting skirts corseted dresses and high waist skirts and dresses. So, when Coco Chanel designed a loose tweed suit that was only fitted on the lower waist and shoulders, she gained popularity for designing comfortable yet fashionable clothing. Today the design and fabric remain a staple for the brand and if you don’t recognize it, think of the Chanel jacket.

Yves Saint Laurent -The Female Pants Suit

It was the year 1967 when Yves Saint Laurent (the designer) adapted the traditionally masculine suit for the female body. The sleeves were fitted the waist belted and the pant leg wide. The pants suit accompanied by a necktie and a hat revolutionised women’s wear. The suit a uniform for the working woman and from that moment the designer became the tailor of the confident sexy and empowered woman. Today pantsuit has lived on taking up many forms all born from that original design.

Mary Quant -The Miniskirt

The sixties gave us the beetles, the first man on the moon and the miniskirt although little is known on who was the first to design the miniskirt Mary Quant is credited with advocating for the garment. The miniskirt came at an opportune time of female liberation by the birth control pill and the garment became the perfect symbol.

Givenchy-The Little Black dress

Trends may come and go but the little black dress is here to stay. The staple piece for any and every evening out. Designed by Coco Chanel popularised by Givenchy the little black dress was made to Transcend trends, invest now and wear forever. That’s why you can never go wrong with a little black dress .

Midnight Kiss

NYE is the perfect occasion for a striking red lip… but really, when isn’t? A red lip is perfect for the last-minute outfit panic as it can dress-up any look and worn with all-black for some seriously Coco Chanel vibes. Our favourites are:

With everyone having high expectations following his previous themed collections at Chanel, Lagerfeld did not disappoint. Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Stella Maxwell and Adut Akech were all decked out in French sailor inspired clothing in white tights, berets and striped trousers. Other A-listers such as Lily-Rose Depp and Kristen Stewart were taking in the sights from front row.

The collection reflects on Coco Chanel’s life, when she would need a break from the fast-paced fashion world of Paris, she would relax on glamourous yachting trips throughout Europe.

This has to be one of the most extravagant sets Chanel have ever done. A 330-foot-long ocean liner with thousands of romantic lights surrounding it was a stunning spectacle. All we want to know is when can we hop on board?
