Not only did Playboy’s Miss August, Dorothy Stratten – played so elegantly by Nicola Peltz – put on her own show of outfits through episode 1, we later discover that another woman boss, Denise Caughlin, is the mastermind behind our favourite male strip tease costumes. Thanks Denise for those rip away trousers! 😉

Dorothy’s pure gold look makes it hard not to trust her. Wearing a metallic gold dress in a similar style to her first look, Dorothy pairs this with classic gold hoops and a gold chain necklace.

The money-saving sensation, I’m Broke Baby, has multiple success stories under his belt regarding

Luckily, he joined us for an in-depth interview about his entrepreneurial start-ups, unmatched business
success and money-saving tips we can implement into our everyday lives. From side-hustles and cleaning businesses to social media influencing and winning awards, I’m Broke Baby, has amounted vast and valuable experience of the business world. Trending on TikTok and Instagram for his financial advice, we were able to ask the questions you are dying to know the answers to.

You ventured into entrepreneurship quite young didn’t you, with your first business. How did you
get into it, and how has your journey been so far?


I started my first business when I was 18. I had a job and I was getting a lot of disposable income. I wanted a way to make some more money and keep myself occupied and a bit more driven and focused. So, I started a side-hustle, which was a sneaker-flipping business, and that actually turned into a full-time business after four or three and a half years. So, at first it was to keep myself occupied and then the more skills I picked up, it eventually turned into a full-time business.


Amazing, and you’ve created quite a few other businesses in lots of different industries since then,
haven’t you? Can you talk me through some of them?


Yeah, I’ve had a lot of businesses! The most random one I had was a cleaning company where we used to do end of tenancy cleaning and stuff like that. Right now, I have a dance competition. I can’t dance at all so that’s pretty random for me [laughs]. But it’s going really well, I love starting new businesses, I love seeing them grow from the ground up. So, anything that I feel like I can add value to I’ll get involved in.


When you’re thinking about new business ventures, what makes you decide to begin? What made you
want to go into a cleaning business for example, or dancing?

So, with the cleaning business, a lot of my friends and people I knew, their parents were cleaners. Then I started to get to know estate agents and I thought if I can just be the middleman in between, then there’ll be some money to be made. So, I used my network to get into that. With the dancing as well, I’m quite active on TikTok, I’ve got a big following on there, and I always see these talented people. I thought I could use my platform and my network to put together a solid dance
competition.


Amazing, it’s all about showcasing people and giving them somewhere to show their talent, isn’t it?

Yeah, so I think with creative people or just people in general they’re good at one thing, but they might
not necessarily have all the parts to get it to the next level. They need an entrepreneur or someone whois good at organising things to come in and help build that step for them.


Definitely, for creative people sometimes the business side can be quite difficult or vice versa. Would
you say that you’re more of a creative person or a business person?


I think I have a good mix between both to be fair, I know my weaknesses when it comes to creativity – like anything to do with rhythm. Ideas-wise, I could have all the ideas but might not have the talent to
implement them and that’s when I get the creatives involved.

You also started your influencing journey recently, how did that come about? Were people asking you
for advice?


Yeah, to be fair, the influencing only started about two and a half years ago so the end of 2019, I’d say.
With my sneaker business, I built a big platform on Instagram and then I took it to TikTok, when it
started getting bigger in 2019, early 2020. And then, where I was trying to promote my business, I would do videos in the stock room about the general day-to-day, so people were asking me more business-based questions rather than being interested in buying the shoes. When the business tips started to kick off people were asking me general personal finance questions because they found out that I was a business owner and home owner. They all wanted to know how I had started that. I began sharing my past journey and the tips I’d used in the past. Then that blew up, and I brought it over to Instagram as well, and since then I’ve just been focusing on that.


Your following has grown a lot and we can see why, because your advice and tips are super relatable
for people since we’re living in a financial crisis at the moment. You said that you are a homeowner,
how did that come about? How did you become so disciplined with your money and savings?


When I bought my house, I wouldn’t say I was mad disciplined. I had a really good job, I was an engineer, so I was getting a good salary, plus I had a side hustle. I was very disciplined but at the same time I could afford to go on holiday and go out every week because I was making a lot of money. If you’re trying to save for a house on a single wage, or maybe you haven’t got the best wage, there are loads of things you can do to supplement your income. For example, if you’re spending a lot of money on clothes and fashion is your thing, then make sure you’re using cashback. At the end of the year, you might have enough money to go on holiday without taking out of your savings, and you can end up saving for your house. So, everyone’s situation is going to be different but there’s loads of little things you can implement to save up.


What small tips and saves can we do to get by right now in this living crisis?


Saving wise, I would make sure you are maximising or utilising everything that’s out there. So, I’ve
mentioned before, cash back. Anytime you buy something, double check if you can get cash back. This can be online, or if you have a cash back debit or credit card or a store card. At the end of the year if you have five or six hundred pound in your account from cashback then you can use it to treat yourself, or you can use it to pay a bill. Also, planning ahead. So, if you’re doing food shopping, present shopping, or Christmas shopping, try to make sure you’re not doing it on an impulse. Make sure you have a list and plan ahead. If you’re planning ahead, there’s loads of tools online that can actually help you shop for cheaper, like Google Shopping. There are price comparison sites for your food shop. So just pre-plan and you’ll end up saving some money that way.


So it’s about being more organised with your finances and being disciplined with what you’re working
with?
Exactly yeah, organisation is key.


For the shopaholics out there and also for people that want to go out and socialise. How can they do
that generously without being scared to look at their bank account the next day?


[Laughs] For shopping, I’m pretty sure people are aware there are websites like Depop, Vinted and eBay. Once you’re done with something try and list it on there straight away, especially if you know you’re not going to get any use out of it, as long as you can get some money back out of it. One of my friends is a sneaker-head. So, he has a one-in one-out policy. So, you’re still getting the enjoyment of a new outfit or pair of shoes but you’re doing it on a budget. For going out also, I think everyone’s probably done this, have your money in one account that you’re willing to spend and try not to transfer from your savings if you need an extra drink.


It’s hard not to though!


It is hard not to [laughs]. It’s better if you can allocate what you want to save at the start of the month
when you get paid before you spend the rest, instead of saving what you haven’t spent. I think there’s a saying called ‘pay yourself first’, so from your wages you pay yourself into your savings account and then anything that you have left over you can spend, rather than the other way round.


Do you have a general ratio of how much you separate your money and things?


Personally, because I’m a business owner I do things a little bit differently to utilise some of my allowances. But before that I was trying to save. Say I earned two thousand pound a month, I would try to save at least a thousand of it, which is hard now because rents have gone up and everything.
So, back then my rent was about eight hundred pound a month, then my bills might have been about four, five hundred pound a month, but I was getting say an extra six hundred pound a month from one of my side hustles, so I would try to save my wages first and then use my side hustle to spend on going out and enjoyment. Yeah, rather than take it from my wage. Because with your wage you know it’s guaranteed every month. But with a side hustle, if you didn’t make as much money that month, you might have to cut back on some other things.


When did your side hustle become your main thing?


I did an apprenticeship in engineering when I was 17 and then I left that when I was 22, so it took about five years, constantly working on it every day. I was probably putting full-time hours into it to be honest. I was spending a good 30, 40 hours a week on my side hustle. And then when I saw that it was making consistent money for about a year, I knew that for it to grow I’d have to put more time into it, that’s when I left.

I also feel that during Covid everyone had a side hustle, didn’t they? They tried to do something creative and make a little bit of money through something that they enjoyed.

You need to find something that you enjoy for a side hustle and it needs to fit around your schedule. If you enjoy it, it’s most likely going to be done during your down time. If it’s something that you don’t enjoy, it’s going to be like another job at the end of the day. There’s still a lot of new side hustles that are coming, just from the way that the world’s changed. Everyone’s moved online so there’s a lot of things you can do in your free time to get some extra cash.

You talked about utilising things like cashback and credit cards. A lot of people our age can be quite
scared of getting credit cards. Do you have any sort of advice on how credit cards could benefit different people, or how to stay disciplined without exceeding your credit limit?


With credit cards I think a lot of the fear comes down to lack of education. When I was growing up, I was always taught that you use a credit card because you don’t have the money. I think you need to get out of that mindset. If you have credit, you’re basically still spending your own money, but you’re getting rewards from it. Any time you make a transaction, someone gets paid from that. So, if you go into the shop and you use a credit card, the card provider is getting their 3% from that. So, they want to incentivise you to use their credit card, and you can leverage that by just paying it off in time and receive reward points. To start off, if you’ve never had a credit card before, there’s two really good ones called Aqua and Vanquis. They won’t give you a high limit, they might give you two or three hundred pounds to start off. They have loads of online tools too, and they’ll tell you when your limit is coming up and when to pay it off to avoid paying interest. After you’ve used that for a few months, and you feel more confident, then you can start looking at comparison sites. These will match your credit score with the credit cards that you can get and that’s when you can start getting some really good rewards. So, you can get cash back, you can get points to fly, you can get hotel stays. As long as you’re paying off your balance in full, and you’re not paying any interest, then you can really leverage credit cards to actually make you some extra money.


So, investment, everyone talks about the importance of investing. Have you gotten into investment
yourself and if so, what’s the best way to start?


Yeah, I invest quite a lot. Right now, it might be a scary time to invest because the market’s all over the
place, whether that’s stocks and shares or crypto. The best way to start in my opinion is to download a platform that will give you a free taster. There are platforms like Freetrade and Trading 212 and they’ll give you a free share once you sign up. You have to deposit a small amount to get that free share, but I found that when I started that just looking at how the free share went up and down in value, it actually gave me an interest and a bit more of an understanding of the market. So, instead of risking your own money, maybe just do one of those. Have it for a few months, keep tabs on it, and you can see the price going up and down. Make sure that you’re following the right people online, there’s loads of good platforms out there that will introduce you into investing, rather than jumping straight in there because now is a very scary time to invest. The market are all over the place, so you don’t want to be put off. So, I would say dip your toes in and take it slowly.


In terms of property, everyone is saying that it is not quite the right time to get on the property ladder. Is this the case?

So, I’ve been keeping tabs on the property market. Personally, I think it’s a good time if you have the
money for the deposit. If you were thinking of buying this year and you haven’t quite pulled the trigger,
because obviously the interest rates have gone up, there’s going to be a lot of motivated sellers soon. So, potentially if you have enough deposit or if you can buy in cash, perhaps from an inheritance, it could be a good time to buy. But with the interest rates right now, especially being on a variable rate, I don’t think it’s a good time to buy. If you just had enough to scrape the deposit, I probably would hold off.


Sick, so my last question is, it’s coming towards Christmas time and everyone’s getting or wanting gifts. Have you got any other tips for keeping our bank balance in tact?


When it comes to buying gifts, I know a lot of your readers are probably into popular, new fashion that may sell out quickly. And then you might end up having to pay more than the retail price from a resell
platform. There are websites out there that help you keep track of when things are coming out in different retailers. There’s one really good one called Stock Informer if you’re looking to buy toys, game consoles, I think they even do shoes now. You can make sure you get it for the original price and save some money that way, so you don’t have to pay resell price. Sole Supplier is also good for shoes and clothes. Make sure that you get things at the best price through web apps like Honey and Pouch, which will tell you every time there’s a discount code available. Also, there’s a little trick that works on lots of websites. If you add something to your cart and you don’t buy it, some websites, maybe an hour or two later, will send you a discount code to incentivise you to check out. So, you might get free shipping, you might get 10% off. It’s about being savvy while you’re shopping and planning ahead, this will save you a lot of money over the Christmas period.

]]> After establishing their outlandish label in 2016, Bristolians Ed Jefferson and Paul Waite have revolutionised casual wear. Combining luxury with comfort, Arctic Army is the epitome of unique, urban fashion.

From the music videos of Saweetie to ArrDee, Arctic Army’s colourful, crystal-embellished casual wear has been worn by rap legends across the globe; defining itself as a label that draws inspiration from the 90s R&B scene to dress the rap heroes of today.

The brand’s establishment came right on time for the global pandemic as casual wear became a day-to-day staple due to more and more people working from home. While many casual wear labels reproduce the same sweater/jogger combinations, Arctic Army brings a fresh and innovative approach to casual fashion. The label uses overlock stitching and garment dye processes to ensure dressing casually doesn’t mean sacrificing luxury. From reflective puffers to fur trims, the brand is dedicated to creating unapologetically bold outerwear.

The brand’s growth reached new heights recently after launching nationwide at British luxury fashion retailer Flannels. At Arctic Army’s Flannels launch party last November, major celebrities like Ivorian Doll performed while wearing the brand’s daring pieces, demonstrating just how far the brand has come since its humble beginnings after first launching with just two jackets.

We sat down with the brand’s co-owner Ed Jefferson to discuss how the label began, who inspired it, and what’s in store for the future of Arctic Army.

How did you get into fashion and what inspired you to set up your brand?

I think I’ve always been into clothes and fashion. As a kid, I was always asking for my mum’s clothes to stick gems on and glitter glue to make outfits from; it’s always been in my blood to make clothes. So, it was a natural thing for me to do. I didn’t study fashion but when I left school I started my own boutique where I made pieces and sold them.

Then I moved on to work for a costume company where I met Paul (the other co-creative director of Arctic Army). Paul owned the costume company and I worked for him for many years designing dance costumes like those on Strictly Come Dancing. There were lots of over the top silhouettes, feathers, and Swarovski crystals, so that’s how I ended up in fashion.

Then it evolved, we were doing amazingly creative things in such a niche area, between us we had many designs and ideas, so it was only natural we went into mainstream fashion.

That sounds like quite a change! How was that?

It was a change! The dancing side of things was very much over the top crystals and dresses, but Paul’s brand also had a merchandise side to it. He would design hoodies and sweatshirts which organically rolled onto ideas like ‘can we do jackets?’ I always wanted a Mr and Mrs Italy parka but I could never afford one as they were three and a half grand. So we thought maybe we can bring something to the market that combines a super-luxury fur trim with a better price point that the masses could buy.

We trialled it with our customer base and they went crazy for it. It just snowballed from there! We started an Instagram for the jackets, then before we knew it we had a website. Now a few years later we’re in Flannels, Harrods, and we’re online, it’s gone crazy!

How did you come up with the name Arctic Army?

We’ve always had a following since my previous job and it was all about creating a similar feel for our new brand where you feel a part of something. We say things like our customers are going to ‘ join the army’ or become ‘recruits’.

Our original jacket was like an MA1 bomber with a hood trim; so it was an amalgamation of the army-style bomber and creating a sense of belonging (that inspired the brand’s name).

Being an army based brand is also how we came up with the Arctic Army logo, which is a soldier beetle that symbolises a war medal. It all fit together in the sense of being a part of something.

Your designs draw a lot of inspiration from the 90s R&B scene, what drew you to this period of fashion? Is it something you felt you could relate to?

MTV Cribs, Jlo, Timberland boots, and fur trims are from the era that I grew up with. I love the luxury and the idea that everything was branded and over the top; that’s where the inspiration came from. Jennifer Lopez is one of our muses and it was the period just before Y2K when I grew up watching television that inspired our big puffers, silhouettes and the supercharged, over the top-ness of it all- it’s all very us.

Your products are very relevant to the current Y2K trend, but they’re also timeless, would you agree?

It is timeless! Although we do some fashion-forward pieces, our key pieces like shiny puffers and gilets with big fur trims and big silhouettes are a forever product. Everybody always needs a coat, they’re essential, and a puffer never goes out of style, does it? Whether you’re designing Balenciaga or Yeezy, they’re still using puffers as the main silhouette. Even though it is a day-to-day product, you can still create some amazing high fashion silhouettes with what we do!

We noticed you’ve had some cool celebrities wearing your product recently, like Saweetie, who would you love to see in it?

Jennifer Lopez is at the top of the pyramid- very close to Kim Kardashian- I do love Kim! But I think Jlo would be perfect for the brand.

You launched in Flannels, is this something you always saw for the brand? Was it easy to get there?

It has been a lot of hustle! It has been a crazy rollercoaster. I used to listen to people who have brands and they would say ‘it’s a lot harder than it looks’- and it has been- but it does pay off.

We still have a long way to go as we are still a very new brand but we’ve definitely got our foot in the door in those places and I think the only way is up!

How has your brand evolved since you were established in 2016?

When we established in 2016, we literally had two jackets. We had a bomber and a parka in different colours. It was literally just an Instagram page with two products. Since then we’ve built into a big range, we’re launching spring/ summer for the first time, which is a full collection (it will be available in Flannels and online).

Before it was something you could only buy in the winter, now we want our customers to be able to buy something whether it’s for the beach, a festival, or wherever they’re going in the summer; we’re expanding to become a 360 brand.

You pledged to work with ethically sourced fur, tell us about your views on ethical furs

We only use SAGA approved sources, which have the highest ethical practices in the industry. As far as fur goes, it is the most ethically sourced. We are doing all that we can to be the most ethical, I believe that the fact fur products can be recycled and reused for years without ending up in landfills is a good argument for their use.

However, I do feel that the current attitudes are changing towards the use of fur and that is definitely something we are aware of and we are considering whether to phase it out. As such a young brand that has founded itself on such a unique, iconic product, it takes us a bit longer to understand what our customer wants. So it’s something we’re looking at for the future.

You mentioned you’re launching a spring/summer collection, can you tell us more about that or anything else we should look forward to?

We have a really exciting summer planned for the brand. We have new products dropping, it is our first time doing light outerwear pieces, which will be dropping soon. We’re launching a new MA1 bomber, which we’re naming our ‘logo bomber’. This will be a really cool oversized bomber. We have new jerseys, light outerwear, and hybrids- so a lot more of a light offering- as until now everything we have produced has been super heavy. This is our first time dipping our toe into a product that is a lot lighter.

Also our jersey- one of my favourite parts of the brand- shows luxury isn’t just expensive suits and dresses anymore; luxury can be casual wear like hoodies and joggers. The quality of our products means it isn’t just another hoodie or T-shirt. We use garment dye process, washes, and overlock stitching, so our products are very well thought out and of high quality.

I recently returned from Portugal where I visited the dye houses that we use and it was incredible to see the processes and the labour-intensive parts that go into the jersey we’re making. ]]> The month of march is Women’s History Month, and with this we want to take the time to talk about the most successful women in the beauty industry and how they’ve paved the way for the future of the industry. In recent years the growth in inclusivity and diversity within the industry has brought to light new and creative females willing to make a change in the industry. Their hard work for this change has paid off and overall made the industry a more welcoming and inclusive place for all people. This women’s history month we want to celebrate everyone creating and behind the scenes of the beauty industry and show our respect for those wanting to grow and diversify the community.

Sharon Chuter – UOMA Beauty

“A confident woman inspires those around her – empowered women, empower others”

Sharon Chuter

Sharon Chuter, who was born in Nigeria and now lives in London, founded UOMA Beauty to provide completely inclusive, varied beauty, pulling inspiration from her ancestry and experiences. She was also the brains and brawn of the ‘Pull Up For Change’ campaign, which demanded beauty brands explain how diverse their senior staff are during the 2021 Black Lives Matter movement. This not only sparked vital, long-overdue discussions, but it also prompted numerous companies to promise and enact immediate change.

UOMA Beauty values authentic beauty, and this is shown in their diverse range of shades and shows their appreciation for all skin tones and difficulties they may face when it comes to finding their shade.

Charlotte Tilbury 

Charlotte Tilbury MBE is one of the leading beauty and skincare brands of today, dominating the market whilst empowering all at the same time. Her all inclusive beauty range sells a range of astounding products which have shaken the beauty community multiple times. Her products are high quality and offer a wide range of shades for all. This amazing reputation has made Charlotte tilbury a household name and everyone more or less has one of her products in their routine!

As well as her magnificent products, Tilbury has been a long-time supporter of Women for Women International, a charity that assists female war survivors rebuild their lives, and in 2019 she contributed £1 million to fund their programmes, which she continues to do through continuing initiatives and collaborations. A real girl boss!

Emily Weiss – Glossier 

While working as an on-set stylist for Vogue, Weiss spent her mornings—from 4 a.m. until 8 a.m.—to writing her blog. Weiss left her job at Vogue after Into the Gloss (ITG) reached a milestone of 10 million monthly page visits. She covers skincare, makeup, hair, and motivational interviews in her writing. Jenna Lyons, a former J.Crew president and fashion designer, was featured in one of her most high-profile beauty-life interviews in 2014. A year later, she did an interview with Kim Kardashian.

She is now the CEO of cult beauty brand Glossier. Glossier is a huge advocate for natural beauty and embracing yourself. Their inclusive shade ranges and minimalistic beauty approach spoke to a new kind of customer, growing the beauty community even more.

Glossier as a brand grew dramatically, $400 million in 4 years. Whether natural makeup is your thing or not, you just have to appreciate the grind from Emily Weiss.

Rihanna – Fenty Beauty

Fenty beauty was launched in September 2017 by Rihanna. The brand is popular for its broad inclusivity across skin tones and gender. Launching their Pro Filt’R foundation in 40 shades, now up to 50. Fenty beauty connected emotionally with makeup wearers who had long been treated as if they had been forgotten. They highlighted the issue of shade ranges and proved to the industry that women of colour have huge spending power and that their is a market for them.

They are now worth over $5 billion and are continuing to grow with every new release. As a brand they have paved the way for many more wanting to strive for inclusivity in the industry and have made it apparent how important it is.

Pat McGrath

Pat McGrath, dubbed “Mother” by industry insiders, is a makeup artistry institution in her own right. McGrath rose to prominence in the early 1990s while working with Edward Enninful, then a fashion editor at i-D Magazine. He is widely recognised as the most influential makeup artist of our time. As they say, the rest is history. Her stunning creations have since been published in international editions of the world’s most prestigious fashion magazines, as well as on the runways of Prada, Christian Dior, Balenciaga, and Givenchy. In 2004, she was hired as the Global Creative-Design Director for Max Factor and Cover Girl by Procter & Gamble.Finally, in 2015, she released Pat McGrath Labs, the first product of her makeup collection, which is available at Sephora, Net-A-Porter, and high-end department shops. Pat McGrath Labs is expected to be worth $1 billion after only three years of operation. In 2019 she was included in Time’s 100 most influential people list. She is the first make-up artist to be made a British dame.

Tisha Thomspon – LYS beauty

Tisha Thompson, a skilled makeup artist turned beauty industry maven, is the Founder and CEO of LYSTM Beauty, with over 15 years of expertise in clean beauty product creation, brand management, marketing, finance, and operations. Tisha designed LYSTM as a landing-place for makeup and skincare solutions that are particularly customised to all skin types, textures, and tones, while addressing common skin concerns including hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and sensitive skin. Tisha is on a mission to dispel the myth that clean beauty, deep shade ranges, and high-performance products can’t coexist. Ensuring all her products are vegan and cruelty free Trish Thompson is showing the rest how it’s done!

LYS beauty is exclusively stocked at Sephora at the moment, but we expect to be seeing this brand branch out of America any time soon so keep an eye out!

Kim Roxie – LAMIK beauty

Kim Roxie started out as a makeup artist at her local mall, appalled by what she saw makeup brands putting in their products, she was driven to build her own makeup brand with all clean ingredients.

Founded by Kim Roxie, LAMIK Beauty is a vegan makeup line made with safe, non-toxic ingredients for women with diverse skin tones. Their motto: Beauty is revealed, not applied. They aim to celebrate and support women in all their glory, whilst building an inclusive community. Kim was driven to make the perfect brow product as she struggled with her own brow hair loss in her time, she wanted other women to know they were not alone and there is a solution. Passionate about creating the highest quality products with the purest ingredients, keep a look out for this brand, the future is bright!

Dream in Colour Beauty

Launched in June 2021, Dream in colour celebrates and serves the queer and trans community, whilst raising money for LGBTQ+ charities. Founder of dream in colour is Non Binary / gender fluid makeup artist Viktor Victoria. With over 15 years of makeup artist knowledge they felt a need to create a new kind of makeup brand that celebrated queer and trans beauty. Their goal to grow diversity within the makeup community is in full swing and this is just the beginning. It’s exciting to see a fresh brand on the scene which fills a gap in the market whilst growing the community even wider, and having amazing products to show for it.

It’s important to appreciate and show support to smaller up and coming business, especially ones like Dream in colour. They are essential to growing this community and making it more exciting and diverse. By support them you are a supporting a worthy cause also, starting small makes the biggest impact.

]]> Today, the British Fashion Council (BFC) and London-based venture capital firm Venrex have announced their investment fund, Venrex BFC Fashion I. The fund aims to support the growth of the business ecosystem in the fashion sector.

The BFC’s mission is to strengthen British fashion globally as a leader in responsible creative businesses. A key element of the BFC’s strategy is partnering on this fund, to further enable a vibrant business ecosystem in the fashion sector, providing access to finance for seed, early stage, or growth stage for a broad range of businesses.

The Investment Fund was a key recommendation following an Investors Roundtable co-hosted by the BFC and Sian Westerman, BFC Non-Executive Director, in 2019. The roundtable concluded that multiple funding models exist for different types of businesses, and that there are many opportunities to develop businesses who are at the intersection of creativity, innovation and commerce.

“Highly creative businesses should not necessarily be pushed to high growth but can benefit from talent identification schemes and programmes”.

The Fund marries the BFC’s network, unique convening power and ability to engage with leading creative talent with Venrex’s long-standing track record in identifying winning businesses. The BFC will use the fees received to further invest in fashion education and talent programmes.

Commenting on The Investment Fund, Sian Westerman, BFC Non-Executive Director said:

 “The Venrex BFC Fashion I recognises the importance for fashion start-ups who are at the intersection of creativity, innovation and commerce to have access to capital and commercial expertise as well as much-needed support to allow their sustainable growth, build upon creative talent and bring to bear commercial expertise. It’s fantastic that the Fund will align with the BFC’s core mission to support talent in creating responsible creative businesses, with the goal to expand even more an already thriving fashion ecosystem.”

So far, Venrex BFC Fashion I has invested in three companies: Intimately, Vollebak and Digital Village.

Intimately is an adaptive intimates brand for disabled women. Intimately has redesigned bras, underwear, and sleepwear with the newest fastening technology to ensure those living with disabilities can easily get dressed. The brand doesn’t sacrifice fashion for function, believing everyone deserves to feel confident in stylish intimates designed for them.

Vollebak is building the future of clothing, using science and technology to tackle the most important challenges of our time – from climate change and sustainability, to space travel and disease resistance. Already 2x winners of TIME Best Inventions, their clothing includes Solar charged Jackets that store and re-emit sunlight, t-shirts that turn into worm food, hoodies designed to outlive the owner, and the first gear for Mars.

The Digital Village MMO Metaverse (DV) is redefining the construct of society and how we interact with the internet as a community.
