Straight From The Red Carpet: The Best Looks From The 2022 VMAs

Since the mid-80s, once a year, the world will assemble around their screens to honour and celebrate the best music videos the industry has to offer. And every year, we are pulled through the wringer of celebrity stunts, viral calls outs and incredible fashion, this year was no different. Here are our favourite fashion moments from this year’s VMAs, straight from the red carpet…

Anitta

Brazilian singer Annita stunned in a beautiful red ensemble by Schiaparelli. The velvet skirt with the asymmetrical silk corset and heart pendant was actually the closing look from the brand for FW22, and it certainly brought the house down again last night. Anitta didn’t only impress on the red carpet, however, becoming the first Brazilian artist in history to win an award at the VMAs with her win in the best Latin category.

Lizzo

If there’s one thing we know about Lizzo, it’s that she always brings it to the VMAs. Donning a theatrically elaborate, navy gown by John Paul Gautier, Lizzo’s dress might just be the *gasp* moment of this year’s red carpet. After all, who said couture is just for the runway? Styling her hair in the wet, slicked back look that fashion has come to love, alongside multiple hoop earrings, navy gloves, a lip ring and a dark navy lipstick, Lizzo brought us a look that was equal measures drama and edge, and we love it.

Shenseea

Jamaican native Shenseea may have missed out on her award last night after being nominated for ‘Push Performance of the year’, but she certainly did not miss on the red carpet. Styled in a glimmering 1920s meets Studio 64 ensemble by Marc Jacobs, Shenseea looked classic and glamorous and certainly caught our attention.

Latto

Latto made quite the statement this year in a neon green, mini blazer dress with a plunging neckline, cutouts, and a round, gold clutch. The southern ‘It’s Giving’ rapper who first made waves with her win on ‘The Rap Game’ in 2016 was featured in an ad with Burger King for the awards which seems appropriate given the fact she ate.

Ashley Graham

Model and new mother Ashley Graham stunned as she displayed her world-famous curves last night in a revealing black, cut-out dress from Houghton by Katharine Polk. Accessorising with loose, flowing waves and a sultry, smoked eyeshadow, Graham and her stretch marks looked absolutely breathtaking last night and definitely inspires us to ‘show it all’ as well.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift and chaos at the VMAs go hand in hand, after all, who can forget the infamous 2009 Kanye West incident (and the decade of drama that followed)? Bagging her third ‘Video Of The Year’ award (breaking the record for most wins at the VMA in that category), and announcing her new album Midnights, this year has been no different. Taylor swift didn’t just shine through her achievements though, absolutely glimmering in a 1920s-inspired, bejewelled halter gown by Oscar De La Renta.

Kerrie Colby

Drag superstar Kerrie Colby, who you might know from the 14th season of Rupauls Drag Race, served in a futuristic Mugler body suit in red with mesh cutouts and matching red waves – accentuating her never-ending legs and sensual frame. Kerri tweeted that this was a childhood dream come true in sooooo many ways’ and we’re just glad we got to witness it.

Doechii

‘Persuasive’ rapper Doechii was giving Lil Kim this year in a bold leather blazer with a matching mini skirt, including a plunging neckline, statement collar and adorable bejewelled teddy bear bag. The look is a futuristic mix of The Matrix and Blade and has certainly persuaded us to consider a swamp princess fall.

Sofia Carson

Former Disney star Sofia Carson blessed us with this elegant, all-black gown designed by Caroline Herrera. The dress features an oversized hood and sweetheart neckline paired that she paired with statement spike earrings and a simple, slicked-back bun. Is anyone else getting Audrey Hepburn vibes?

Becky G

Last but by no means least, Becky G looked absolutely divine in a floor-length Zuhair Murad gown, and we dare call it our favourite look of the awards. This glimmering couture gown included a medieval-inspired beaded tapestry and vertical cuts outs framing the sides of her figure (we’re sensing a theme). Combined with a classic red lip, loose waves and some stilettos, this is truly a beautiful ensemble.
