Under golden lights and sparkles, with a JUICY stage of capital letters in the style of the best Broadway shows, this 24-year-old girl brought us a presentation full of elegance, cabaret, and sensuality.

The artist nominated for best R&B song for ‘Juicy’ ft Tyga, surprised us at the last edition of the Billboard Music Awards with a presentation inspired by the 1920s. Her movements and style, taken from the film, gave her an original and catchy touch to this show version of his songs ‘Juicy’, ‘Say So’ and, ‘Like That’

Her performance impressed more than one with praise in her social media by great artists such as Cristina Aguilera and with a post on Instagram of her presentation with more than 409 thousand likes and two thousand comments.

Along with dancers with sultry, stylized female touches, Doja Cat gifted us with an iconic choreography to the 1972 hit Broadway by cinematographer Bob Fosse. Her confident and sensual style captured the red and white lights backed by a wooden chair that highlighted her potential.

Under the creative styling of Brett Alan Nelson, with a Roxie-style outfit by Renee Zellweger with the typical bob with waves to the guide of the 20s plus a fringed and silver sequin dress with sparkling touches and lustful and stunning crystals as her talent.

Not only her cabaret-style left everyone hypnotized, but also her awards entrance outfit, a Georges Hobeika mermaid cut dress and transparent mesh with silver and violet crystals by Lorraine Schwartz that exalted her figure complemented with Amina Muaddi shoes along with to a hair styled by Jared “JStayReady” Henderson pumpkin colour, worthy of the Autumn 2020 season, and a makeup custom by Adam Burrell in warm tones and peach to match.

With a great explosive ending, Doja Cat closed its presentation with a memorable show… we keep snapping our fingers with this version and we want more!

Last week, Doja Cat uploaded her latest official single “Freak” onto YouTube. The song was originally released two years ago but didn’t make it through Copywrite clearance due to the sampled sounds in the music itself.

The song features the first few chords of “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” by Paul Anka- a song that was originally released in 1959. Despite them only being the introductory sounds in Anka’s song, Doja Cat has tweaked them slightly with a more modern beat underlying them, and they progress through the entire song. The combination of new-and-old gives the song a fresh feeling- while it feels new to listeners, there’s an element of familiarity to it. Not just because the single features the sound Doja Cat usually encompasses in her music, vocally, but because “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” is a song that has recently surged in popularity. Thanks to the social media app TikTok, the song was rediscovered.

Doja Cat- Freak (Official Audio)

The lyrics follow the same theme of female sexuality her songs often do. The combination of soft, melodic singing and rap gives it the Doja Cat feels that her fans love. While her songs often radiate a certain energy that immediately tells you you’re listening to something she created, it’s times like these when her creativity really shines (at least in my opinion). This recreation of a song that was originally sung by a man, redesigned to encompass the awareness of female desire is genius. Not only does it sound good, but the underlying juxtapositions between the original and her single only deepen the song. At the end of the track, Paul Anka’s song is bought back, played quietly as the song fades out.

Fans around the world celebrated the official release of “Freak”, the comments on the YouTube video (which already has 1.3million views) were flooded with praise for the song that many had loved and longed for, for so long. The “Say so” singer had promoted it on Twitter the day before the surprise release, saying “Freak will be available on all streaming services tomorrow to hold you guys off while I’m working on new surprises”- her listeners were immediately excited to listen to the reworked version of a song they loved, but were also left wondering just what the surprise she promised would be. To this day, they’re still left wondering. At least we have “Freak” to satiate us while we wait!

Doja Cat was born Amala Zandile in 1995 and raised by her Jewish American painter mother. The singer says growing up she was influenced by Artist like Rihanna and Amy Winehouse. Inspired at the age of 16, she started to record music and put it on SoundCloud. In the Era of SoundCloud, rappers 17-year-old Doja cat stood out with her soul hit ‘So high’ which was later debut as a single. It was not until her Debut album Amala did Doja appear on the world map with her hit single Mooo! (lyrics mentioned above). Since then she has released a second album ‘Hot pink’ which featured her hit singles Say So and Candy. The songs became a viral sensation after going viral on TikTok via a choreographed challenge. After the success of ‘Say so,’ the song has been remixed recently featuring Nicki Minaj (who the singer once praised as the queen of rap to her fellow Barbz) another star to add to the shine that is Doja Cat.

If you thought a lockdown could keep Doja Down, think again. The artist has taken to Instagram to entertain herself. She has changed her Instagram live game with staged mini-concerts dressed absurdly in oversized costumes. From transforming herself into an elf fairy princess to a live reading of famous rap songs in an old British accent in a chainmail hoddie. Doja Cat has proved she is an entertainer in all the definitions of the term. So next time You see Doja cat is on live tune in, you are sure to be entertained.
