Sophia Hilton also provided her thoughts on hair trends and predicts the direction in which hair trends will go from this summer. She gave six predictions, the first being the continuation of cherry red hair we’ve seen become popular since Dua Lipa’s red hair reveal in October 2023. She states: “It’s bold, but it’s so beautiful. Cherry red is going to be the colour for those looking to push their trend limits and make a statement this summer.”

Goth girl blonde will also make a return this summer. Picture a warm toned blonde with a grungy, dark root – think Angelina Jolie in Girl, Interrupted. If the fully gothic-girl blonde look isn’t something you’re after, Hilton looks to Kim Kardashian and her pastel pink grungy bob from April 2024 for inspiration. Just 24 hours after debuting her new platinum hair, Kim shows up to Instagram with her new pink look, displaying the versatility and temporariness of pale hair colours. 2024/5 will be the time for changing your hair, whether it be permanently or only for a weekend.

For those of us only looking for a partial change, hair panelling may be the next trend for you. Think of Christina Aguilera circa 2010. Panelling works with adding in blocks of colour to your natural hair or changing up to two new colours – it’s up to you!

Sophia Hilton also highlights that there is a strong gravitation to pulling away from trends and fashion, stating that “With inclusivity and diversity ever more prevalent in the way in which people express themselves and their look, we’ve noticed a strong trend towards people saying ‘no’ to fashion. Not Another Salon have always been advocates of this, where we encourage people only to express who they are on the inside, regardless of what is on trend.” Although there is a general trend in hair, we encourage you to choose what makes you feel happy – not what makes you feel like you’re fitting in.”

Starting off with our nails, this year we can expect to see nail enthusiasts rocking some creative styles on their manicures with nails becoming more than just a lick of varnish. The new trend of 3D nails has been causing a storm online with nail inspiration taking on new levels. Manicurists can use builder gel, diamonds, balls, and metallic materials to make the nails take on a 3D appearance. These nails are truly a form of artwork as the 3D layering allows them to pop unlike ever before. The builder gel can make 3D lines and swirls with beaded glue for added effects. These nails scream confidence and are absolutely show-stopping.  

Ombre

It’s not ombre nails’ first time at the rodeo, as they pretty much dominated last year with their chic look and subtle emergence of colour. But their time isn’t up! Going into 2023 we can expect to see the continuation of this trendy look as their versatile nature allows them to stand the test of time. Stylists are claiming that the variety of colours they rock alongside the optical illusion they sometimes have is the main reason behind their resurgence going into the new year, and honestly, we’re here for it. This nail look works with every shade and occasion as it is classy but fun at the same time. You can really experiment with colours and patterns with these nails and add as much to the base as you’d like.

Textured 

If you like being adventurous with your nail selection, you’ll love the textured nails that we reckon will be causing a storm next year. Like 3D nails, textured nails allow you to be creative and experiment with your nail artwork by using different materials on the base of your nails to add an extra bit of dazzle to the manicure. The textured nature of these nails can be created by adding layers of nail polish onto the nail to create pretty patterns. You can also use sparkly nail polish to create a textured effect. These nails can be seen as the sister of the 3D style, so it could be a fun idea to use ideas and styles seen with textured nails alongside your 3D nails to create a collaboration of the two and have a truly stunning manicure.  

Soft Chrome  

For all the Hailey Bieber fans out there, we have a treat for you. If you couldn’t get enough of the glazed doughnut nails that dominated last year, then you’re going to love the chrome effect nails that we are expecting to see dominate this year. These nails follow a similar style to the ones flexed by Mrs Bieber as they are a very neutral colour, but their metallic shades add an edge to them that makes them different. Giving off sci-fi chic vibes, these nails and eye-catching and glamorous while also allowing you to be creative if you want. You can have the metallic tip alongside some chrome patterns on the nail bed to jazz this look up to your taste.

Pop Art Nails  

If you are a comic book fan or simply love cartoons these trippy pop art nails are right up your street. Composed of bright colours and detailed line work, these nails give the illusion that they aren’t real, or that they are straight out of a comic book. The black line detailing around the rim of the nail gives off the finish that they are from a comic book along with the added white ‘shine’ mark that gives the illusion that the nails are shining from the light. They are super easy to recreate and are a brilliant way to add a pop of colour to your manicure while also being edgy and creative with the look.
