According to the Adidas press release for the campaign the theme of love is at the centre of
the collection, hence the abundance of deep, vibrant reds present throughout the
collection. In addition to this the colour red has strong connotations of good fortune and joy
in the East, making the decision to drop the collection just as we’ve entered the Lunar New
Year all the more fitting!

Chinese supermodel and actress, Shu Pei is the face of the campaign, posing for a set of playful shots which have been released as a video to showcase the collection. Born in Kaifeng, China, Shu Pei moved to New York as a child where she went to school and was later discovered by modelling agency, Next Management. During her time as a model she has appeared in high fashion magazines, British Vogue and Elle, as well as walking for countless designers including, Burberry, Chanel, and Vera Wang. She has also walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show twice, most notably in 2017 when the show was held in Shanghai.

The campaign video for Ivy Heart showcases a range of loveable looks perfect for you to wear on 14th February and beyond. From an ultra-sexy vinyl mini dress to a structured power suit, each look is coated in a deep ruby red. The infamous Adidas three stripes also make their mark with a a subtle appearance on one of the pieces. Though our personal favourite has to be the fluffy heart-shaped shoulder bag which is oh-so cute!

When many imagine the rodeo, they may think of images of the “Old West” stereotype made popular in 1950s movies; but that’s due to change now that Beyonce has put her own brand on what cowboy/cowgirl life can really look like.

The songstress has taken up the saddle to bring a fresh look to the rodeo pen with her latest IVY PARK x Adidas collection — which she’s premiered in a video featuring her and other ultra-talented individuals modelling the looks from her latest line.

As the video branches its look and message far beyond any stale vision of cowboy life, it highlights the too often forgotten narrative of black cowboys and cowgirls (it is estimated by historians that 1 in 4 cowboys were black) and allows us to rethink what is activewear — and what it could look like.

There are still stretchy gym-ready looks in head-to-toe monochrome (playfully worn with matching cowboy hats on coordinating carousel horses), but there are also denim jackets and jeans embellished with signature Adidas stripes, alongside looks that take fringed trims off of kitschy cowboy gear, and put it on face masks. The looks as ask (and discover) where urban meets rodeo; and if it is possible to find new ways to light up the stables.

Beyonce collaborated with a layered variety of artists, activists, and sportspeople to convey style in the mini-film — from the breakout star musicians Snoh Aalegra and Monaleo, to skilled roper Emily Diana Alba and many more.

Two of the central figures in the video was celebrated black cowboy and actor, Glynn Turman (an Emmy-Award winner, known for his work on A Different World, and The Wire), and his cowgirl granddaughter, MelJulie Siegel.

“Around 12 years old, I became more interested in learning how to become a real cowgirl among the heavily male-dominated sport,” MelJulie says, adding that “Passing on the legacy of the American Black Cowboy is very important to me….I am blessed to represent a secret part of American history by being a modern-day Black cowgirl.”

Highly skilled roper Emily Diana Alba is also featured in the video.

“For me, learning to rope was like learning to ride a bike. You learned how to do it, used the skill to survive, and more importantly had fun with it.” But her interests go beyond the rope. “I love to ride horses and currently participate in an all-female riding team called the “Escarmuza Charra”, a drill team on horses that rides at full speed inside the arena, and is part of the larger Mexican rodeo event called “La Charrería,” she adds. “My love and passion for this sport is undeniable, as I am able to merge two cultures and represent them both with much pride.”

Joining these cowboys and cowgirls were celebrated musical artists. Monaleo, a 20-year-old rapper (and fellow Texan to Beyonce) is known for her recent songs “Beating Down Yo Block” and “Girls Outside” was also featured in the video, with IVY PARK noting her “versatility as a rapper, singer, and songwriter,” and her being “a role model and feminist hero”.

Joining her was the Texan musician powerhouse family of Tobe, Fat and Nell whom IVY PARK describes as an “enigma”, a “renaissance woman”, and as a “pioneer of music production”, respectively.

The short film also features the chart-topping and award-winning Iranian-Swedish singer/songwriter Snoh Aalegra, with the brand describing the “LOST YOU” singer as “one of the most exciting and critically acclaimed voices in music today”.  

And looking towards the modelling world, the film also features British/American/Swiss plus-size model and body acceptance activist Paloma Elsesser modelling several looks from the fully-inclusive collection.

All of the styles— and personas — showcased by IVY PARK x Adidas may be the latest looks of the iconic line — but their spirit and energy are as timeless as that of the American western look that it honours.

The IVY PARK Rodeo collection will become available on 19th August at noon CEST.

Done in shades of Fanta orange, the designs of the FLEX PARK capsule collection are mega-inclusive, with an amazing variety of sizes and non-gendered pieces on offer. To show off this inclusive collection, the launch campaign features Instagram influencers Tabria Majors (@tabriamajors), Kristen Noel Crawley (@kristennoelcrawley), and actor Quincy Brown (@quincy), wearing the line’s ultra-interchangeable activewear and newly-launched swimwear.

The brand says the capsule collection was inspired by “nostalgic muscle beach culture,” and in turn, the classic notion of “flexing”. The collaborators say that the collection seeks to “inspire anyone and everyone to fearlessly FLEX their best selves. Crafted with self-confidence in mind, the capsule’s ethos is defined by the pursuit of an unabashed representation of who you are.”

And it’s easy to see the empowering spirit of Ivy Park’s founder in each design— with the brand saying that the looks were designed in a way that “emphatically celebrates the empowered spirit of confident self-expression and individuality — positively and boldly.”

The collection offers a variety of interchangeable pieces — from swimwear and activewear to accessories such as unisex slides, towels, and tote bags. Florescent and sheer wide-leg trousers and dresses are right on trend for the moment, along with string tie once-piece swimsuits and bikinis.

This latest drop also marks high on the sustainability scale, with the brand saying that the line is made of fabrics that include “Polyester swim materials containing a minimum of 85% recycled content, performance stretch woven, chiffon, and performance mesh fabric.”

The FLEX PARK capsule collection is available in sizes from XS-4X, and can be found on adidas.com immediately, and in-store from 23rd July.

Beyonce has once again blessed us with another drop in her Ivy Park x Adidas collection. The newest collection is designed around hitting the slopes and strutting it around the alpines, thus, the birth of what’s been dubbed as ‘Icy Park’. 

There’s a lot of buzz and excitement around this new drop, which there’s no surprise at, especially considering that the collection includes some famous faces such as Hailey Bieber, Gucci Mane, Kaash Paige alongside models; Kyla Coleman, Akesha Murray, and Shi Gray. 

The trailer that @WeAreIvyPark dropped on twitter featured all these famous faces in amongst flashes of some gorgeous apparel. The trailer is really giving us some stylish, chill and fearless vibes.

The slogan that accompanied the first two drops; ‘This is my park’ has been upgraded to ‘Your Park is Your Wonderland’. Inspiring customers to find their wonderland in their own homes, whether that be in the countryside, city, or mountains – pretty appropriate after 2020. 

Reporting on the new collection and the inspiration behind ‘Icy Park’s’ new mantra, WWD wrote that ‘she looked inward mentally, physically and emotionally. She encouraged her fans to do the same and explore questions such as: where is your beast mode, what drives you, where do your dreams lie, what is your motivation? For her, the response is: your park’. From the sneak-peak of the new collection, we can see that the apparel will give us the motivation to find the answers to those questions exactly.

The size-inclusive collection is a range of clothing, accessories, and footwear. Reporting on the footwear that we got a sneak-peak of in the trailer, Female First wrote; ‘The third drop boasts the updated Ivy Park Ultra Boost, Forum Lo, Forum Mid and Super Sleep sneakers, plus the new Super Sleek Boot’, which means we can rest safely in the knowledge that we’ll have some killer kicks to get active in this year. The clothing in the new collection appears to be a mix of some terrycloth pieces and some super comfortable, cosy items- ideal for winter. Excitingly, it appears as though this new collection also features some items of clothing that are decorated with a new Ivy Park monogram. 

The collection was announced today, and we know we won’t be the only ones lining up to get in on this new drop that’s ‘coming soon’ (we’re still thinking about that pink monogrammed get-up that Hailey Bieber had on).

Have you ever wondered what would happen if an iconic sports brand collaborated with an actual real live icon? Well, the result is orange, burgundy, white and inclusive.

The Ivy Park that has graced the Topshops around the world since 2016 was created to ‘support and inspire women’. You only have to hear the drums bashing out the introduction of ‘Run the World’ as you’re getting on the bus on your daily commute. The walk down the aisle to find a seat goes from an embarrassing fumble, as you bash your way down the aisle, apologising after clumsily stepping on someone’s foot, and knocking over another person’s bag… to you strutting down the catwalk in a parade of female empowerment. Because ‘Who runs the world?’ as Bey says herself; ‘Girls!’.

With the sexy curve-skimming A-symmetrical dress, high-leg bodysuits and practical sports bras, there is no denying the message of female empowerment is still deeply rooted in the collection. As Queen B herself reminds us in many of her songs, as females, it is vital we remember our past; Respect and be thankful for what those courageous women have done for us and our rights. We’ve gone from our sex meaning we are literal possessions, to our sex providing the world with Beyoncé, Michelle Obama, Kris Jenner, Britney…to name but a few! The collection celebrates this female empowerment in all its forms. The bootylicious bright orange cycling shorts paired with fierce sock-boot stilettos and a matching cropped vest that clings in all the right places celebrating our girly femininity. The baggy burgundy boiler suit with the orange Adidas stripes spilling down the front, tucked into boots, celebrating the more masculine side some of us have.

However, the collection’s significant number of gender-neutral designs is a refreshing type of feminism that we haven’t seen before. Bey explained,

“I focused on designing a unisex collection because I saw so many men in IVY PARK. The way they have embraced the brand is an unexpected gift”.

The athleisure collection includes oversized tracksuits, boiler suits, tops, jumpers and bags that are all made to appeal to both sexes. This is a bold move for the face of female empowerment. But perhaps this is less down to the actual issue of female empowerment and more down to the negative opinions of men that is something that has unfortunately become seemingly synonymous with feminism.

Beyoncé’s inclusion of non-gendered garments proves that you can empower women, and not exclude men from this empowerment; she hasn’t just given her brand a makeover, she’s given feminism a makeover. The empowerment of women should not mean the downfall of men, and Ivy Park donning the three stripes is a step towards this idea of equality fluidity; and Bey, we are so here for it.

Issue 16 was an iconic moment in the Voir Fashion timeline in that we featured an exclusive article on the global phenomenon known as Beyoncé. The musical artist had recently launched a new athleisure label called Ivy Park, which coincided nicely with Voir’s appraisal for all things street, and a dedicated “Word on the Street” Issue. What made this feature so poignant and timely was the fact that the boxing legend Mohammad Ali had recently passed away, and we therefore felt it befitting as a tribute to his lyrics, and a nod to Queen Bey’s charisma to adopt the mantra “Float like a Butterfly, Sting like a Bee”.
