Zendaya as become the youngest star, at just 24-years old, to win the Emmy award for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama”​ and the second black actress to ever win the title, beating out her acclaimed counterparts such as Jennifer Aniston and Olivia Colman.

The title was won thanks to her portrayal of Rue, in the series Euphoria, a teenager going through a life crisis characterised by depression and abuse of drugs and alcohol who is struggling to overcome her personal battles.

The actress that attended the online ceremony wearing a beautiful custom ​ polka-dot skirt and pearly top received the award in awe and teary-eyes surrounded by her supporters. “This is pretty crazy” was the start of her simple yet honest speech that demonstrated her hard-work, her admiration for the project that she represented, and the gratitude for her supportive family and great ​Euphoria​ team. Her speech also included a motivational message for our youth in reference to the rough time we’re going through: ​”I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating, but I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there,” she said. “I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that but there is hope in young people. And I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, I thank you, and yeah, thank you so, so much! This is—whoa, okay, thank you!”.

If you haven’t watched Euphoria yet, this is the perfect time to, in order to understand Zendaya’s role and highly deserved win. We at Voir love it, not just Zendaya’s character but the message the series transmits and the beautiful yet harsh reality it depicts when talking about teenage years in our modern society. It’s the type of series that breaks boundaries as demonstrated by this historical moment, we the youth matter and can achieve anything if we dare to try.
