With sustainability at the heart, (Di)vision’s brand ethos is creating from what already is. Creative sourcing of material from upcycling, reconstructing, and redesigning forms the pillars of the brand and adequately sets them apart from the crowd.

After their debut in 2018 with their custom workwear jackets, Wick stays true to the fairy grunge allure, frequently incorporating creative zippers into their pieces to produce an urban maximalist feel. These fun, edgy looks are very denim and cargo heavy staying true to their ‘downtown’ style, but Wick has also chosen to explore lighter tones and lace detailing, leaning into a subtly demure undertone to their edgy streetwear.

OpéraSPORT

Founded in 2019 by long-time friends Stephanie Gundelach and Awa Malina Stelter, OpéraSPORT forms the perfect bridge between Paris and Copenhagen to expertly marry timeless elegance and sleek activewear.

Working to fight over-production and waste, OpéraSPORT’s production only covers recycled or organic fabrics to yield a production volume that expertly reflects the demand.

At Copenhagen 2024, OpéraSPORT have achieved a beautiful blend of two iconic cities, encompassing Paris’ sophisticated and feminine demeanour with Copenhagen’s athletic and practical style, giving each look that perfect je ne sais quoi. OpéraSPORT’s use of silk in particular expertly utilises the material’s natural shine to blend an association between high-class fabrics and Lycra active wear.

Sinéad O’Dwyer

Winner of the 2024 Zalando Visionary Award, Sinéad O’Dwyer is a forerunner in the integration of the feminine and the tough to expertly curate an elegant yet almost industrial design.

However, its O’Dwyer’s unique take on the human body itself that sets her apart from the crowd. “Diverse bodies are at the core of their design process, from research and development to the final product. This passion and care for the human body in all its iterations and their radical approach to design, sampling and production is what makes them unique” reads the brochure for SS25 at Copenhagen Fashion Week. O’Dwyer manages to almost make the clothes secondary to the model, instead showcasing the beauty of the human form first and foremost in a celebration of natural curves and beauty Aphrodite would be proud of.

To do this, the pieces are subtle and carefully designed to not overwhelm the model, but instead accentuate form and colour by focussing on earth tones with highlights of a deep blue denim in a gorgeous homage to the Earth.  

Berner Kühl

Frederik Berner Kühl is a fantastic up-and-coming talent diving into a traditional Scandi aesthetic with an elevated, modern approach that reads as sophisticated and cultured. Striving to convey his vision in ultimate materiality, Kühl focuses on grey-scale tones to allow his explorational textures and fabrics to speak for themselves, driving the pieces.

Creating menswear with a signature Danish sensibility, his SS25 runway showcased practical coats and jackets for next spring and summer, among expert layering to elude style and functionality.

Han Kjøbenhavn

Founded in 2008, style veteran Han Kjøbenhavn are still making waves through their innovative designs and daring shape work.

Focusing on shape in their work, the vision of Han Kjøbenhavn is bold and captivating silhouettes that captivate the audience and demand attention. Utilising dark and subdued colours not only provides an overarching grunge-feel to the collection, but really allows the avant-garde materials and structure to sing. However, these cutting-edge looks still remain reminiscent of the iconic Copenhagen, birthplace of Han Kjøbenhavn, with uncompromising craftmanship and attention to subtle details that the Danish do so well.

Baum Und Pferdgarten

Leading Danish fashion house Baum Und Pferdgarten have been perfecting their practice since 1999. Where runway meets downtown, Baum Und Pferdgarten have mastered the art of inclusivity by designing captivating pieces that can be worn by anyone in an innovating streetwear collective.

Willy Chavarria

One of the first designers that comes to mind when we think about gender fluidity in fashion is the incredibly talented Willy Chavarria. Chavarria is currently senior vice president of design at Calvin Klein and chief creative officer at his own brand. He’s become known for intertwining current issues in politics as well as race and sexuality into his design.

He has created some boundary-breaking androgynous designs and has had a major part in blurring the lines between traditional gender norms His collections challenge societal expectations, celebrate diversity, and encapsulate Chavarria’s unique aesthetic, combining streetwear influences with his bold and inclusive vision.

Eckhaus Latta

Eckhaus Latta is another cutting-edge fashion label that’s spearheading the genderless design movement. Founded by designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta. The brand has become known for their avant-garde and gender-fluid design. The brand challenges conventional notions of beauty and style and their collections often feature unconventional materials and unique silhouettes, pushing the boundaries of contemporary fashion with a focus on inclusivity and individuality.

Elisabetta Franchi – The “Eternal” Collection

Known for her feminine design, embracing both smart and sensual looks, the Italian designer Elisabetta Franchi offered us an array of column dresses, chic pantsuits, hourglass blazers, and mini dresses during the first day of the FW, 20/04. It was a celebration of various textures, with sequined, full-length evening dresses, crystal intarsias, layers of chiffon, golden fringe, and feather-like, white, floral ornaments.

It was all about glimmer and glamour, but in a highly elegant and powerful tone. The strong makeup, with smoky eyes and nude lips, complemented by long, golden earrings and necklaces made a statement of majestic and goddess-like femininity. The collection, with its colour palette revolving around a classic set of black, white, ivory, metallic silver, golden, and claret, presented not only smart suits, and minimalistic and form-fitting dresses, but also had a sexy touch to it, with cut-outs, transparent blouses, blazers modified into mini dresses, and glittering, crystal-embroidered silver mini dresses paired up with high leather boots or complemented by an impressive chiffon trail.

The cherry on top? Franchi’s identification mark – classy high heels, with the brand’s logo incorporated in the heel – for the goddesses to stride boldly. 

“Peri Therous” By Dassios

This Athens-based designer’s collection was the greatest tribute to the rich Hellenic heritage we saw during day two, if not during the whole Fashion Week.

Every model, with colourful (usually blue or red) eye shadows, ethnic earrings, and most standing-out garlands, brought to mind representations of the Greek goddess of the hearth and home, Hestia, who – for this one day – appeared in front of our eyes in flesh and blood, wearing long dresses and togas in the colours of nature.

They were airy and mostly broad, with long sleeves, but very sensual at the same time, with deep necklines and half-transparent fabrics. It was a harmonious celebration of colours and large prints, inspired by Greek traditional garments, worn by models of different looks and age groups. Majestic Hellenic femininity at its finest. 

“Daydreaming A Poem For Katia” By Celebrity Skin – Daydreaming It Is

It was magical, it was theatrical, it was avant-garde and haute-couture. The “daydreaming” bit in the title of German-born Dimitris Strepkos’ latest collection is by no means accidental, as the show offered futuristic and fairy-tale-like corsets, Schiaparelli-like, glowing crystal masks and theatrical hair accessories, together with richly ornamented lace bodysuits – all in an artistic tone, with models varying in gender, silhouettes, and age groups.

The textures – with sequins, frills, fringe, and decorative buttons, were just amazing, all meticulously mixed to create a fascinating, innovative whole. Celebrity Skin delivered a show which proved to be the definition of haute couture, and we’re more than honoured to have been able to experience it.

Malan Breton A/W24

It’s been Breton’s first show here in Athens, and surely one to be remembered. The collection, inspired by the ‘70s Glam Rock era, was sexy, edgy, and powerful, bound to cause goosebumps, with the empowering, almost sinister music reverberating inside Zappeio Megaron.

Closing the second day of the FW, Malan Breton presented a series of form-fitting leather dresses, full-leather looks (from red to metallic silver and classic black), and glamorous evening gowns – silky and sensual, some of them almost devilish with their red and black colour palette and chic elbow-length gloves.

The look that stood out and stuck in the mind was the golden-brown feather outfit, which made the model look like a proud, majestic bird – a predatory one for sure.

Paris Valtadoros & “Mystique” – Frilling, Frilling, and One More Time Frilling by the Lake Vouliagmeni 

It was probably the most magical and almost other-worldly setting, creating a unique experience, full of vibrant colours, massive platform heels, and layers (and layers!) of frilling. From more classic, black-and-white looks, to patchwork ruffle dresses with sensual cut-outs, and neon pink, orange, and yellow dresses of various lengths – but always with frills bouncing rhythmically to the electrifying beat in the background – Paris Valtadoros ended day three of Athens FW with a varied range of forms and inspirations.

Looking at the frilled sleeves (from white to grey, and Barbie-pink) and metallic platform heels, we just couldn’t help thinking of the 1970s iconic outfits. Watching the black-beige full-length dresses (inspired by traditional Greek togas) flowing in front of your eyes, with the runway just above the lake’s clear waters, and the nearby rocks in atmospheric dim light, the show created a truly sublime experience.

And the Best Catwalk Award Goes to… L’ amour et L’ âme Atelier! 

Tuesday 23/04 saw the New Designers Awards HUAWEI FreeClip gala, during which three young designers were awarded for their fresh and promising ideas. One of them was L’ amour et L’ âme Atelier by Lamprini Mourouti, a brand specialising in bridal looks and jewellery.

Apart from classic white gowns, L’ amour et L’ âme Atelier offers colourful ones, like the coral, corset-like mini dress with a transparent trail we could see in the show. It also experiments with lingerie inspirations, making the dresses delicate and sensual – have a look at this half-transparent, sky-blue gown, which – together with the floral headband – makes the model nymph-like. We’ll definitely follow how the brand keeps contributing to bridal trends over the next seasons!

Athens Fashion Week wasn’t just about marvelling at the looks from established designers and praising those from the upcoming ones.

It was a broader, multi-layered experience, in which the Greek setting was invited into the fashion shows and vice versa, and which was both a tribute and a re-interpretation of ancient Greek heritage, as shown in the “Fashion & Olympic Games, Athens 2004-Paris 2024” exhibition.

Namilia’s “Pfoten Weg!” – “A Symbol Of Empowerment”

Pfohl and Li’s newest collection aims at both fully embracing queer identity, as well as staying alert to the dangers diverse people face every day, with the energising name of the show translated as “Hands Off!” (lit. “Paws Off”). The outfits offer a glamorous rebellion, reworking green-beige fatigues into padded-shoulder blazers and pink-grey, diva-like fabulous gown dresses.

The probably most diverse cast of models to be found in the whole Fashion Week (including not only transgender people, but also older, disabled, or debunking the conservative beauty standards) manifests embracing their identity wearing vegan leather chaps, corsets, and glittering belts, accompanied by sensual mesh dresses, spangled hoodies, and thigh-high boots. Right next to the multi-layered mesh skirts, all-black oversized suits, and classy Y2K sunglasses, you’ll find pepper sprays and pink-khaki helmets, introducing armour references. “[T]he Namilia character emerges as a symbol of empowerment – unbothered, unfazed, well-moisturized, and uninterested in engaging with bigots”

“Le Lit” By Olivia Ballard – How About Staying In Bed All Day?

What’s at the core of Ballard’s “Le Lit” (“The Bed”) is the intimacy, freedom, and feeling comfortable with your body, all experienced when we lie cosily in our beds in the morning, wrapped in crumpled bedsheets. “Historically, the bed has been a place of intimacy and vulnerability, which we use as a starting point to create a sacred stage where diverse identities are celebrated. At the same time, we blur the boundary between the private and public space,” points out Ballard (https://fashionweek.berlin/en/designer-2024/olivia-ballard-1.html), talking of her inspiration for the collection created together with Merfys, a bedding company.

The outcome? Duvet-like dresses, pyjama-like checked garments, pillows as accessories, and layers and layers of soft white, grey, and indigo cotton, velvet, and silk. Especially the crumpled-bedsheets-like dresses bring to mind the experience of us trying to fight the temptation to stay in bed all day instead of leaving our comfy zone – but Ballard shows that you actually don’t have to choose one or the other. It turns out to be more than possible to feel relaxed in your outfits, considering your comfort as top priority. Ballard’s models have messy hairdos with white pillow feathers, and wear pointed ballerina-like slippers, cropped jersey bomber jackets, and oversized grey tracksuits – accompanied by couture decorative metal bras. After all, who says high fashion and comfy clothing cannot go hand in hand? 

Lou De Bètoly – Sensual “Illusion And Distortion” Out Of Dog Hair Waste

Lingerie-based and romantic, yet in harmony with the body; homogenous, yet made of a bunch of recycled second-hand materials – including processed dog hair waste. With all that, the latest show by Lou de Bètoly “reinterpret[s] classic couture and reflect the label’s upcycling principle (https://fashionweek.berlin/en/designer-2024/c-lou-de-betoly.html). The designer combines sustainability with sensuality and comfort – linking the spheres of both eco- and self-awareness.

At first sight, you surely wouldn’t say that fabrics come from different second hand sources – the collection is homogenous, including a palette of basic soft colours: whites, beige, grey, light lilac, or pistachio. The fabrics and textures are equally delicate, including mostly lace and mesh, but also woollen dresses, elegant, decorative trimmings, ruffles, and fringe, accompanied by woollen underwear, lace tights and bodysuits, mesh biker shorts, and matching head ornaments.

It is once you look closer that you spot the “illusion and distortion, with many looks challenging reality perception. Skirts made from bras and leather coats turned into bags”. De Bètoly’s new show is a masterfully made, second-hand haute couture collection, revolving around comfort, sensual lingerie, and (self-)awareness. 

“Buttercream Fantasy” By Kitschy Couture – Diasporic Identity And High Fashion Merge

In her show, Abarna Kugathasan used inspirations from her Tamil family heritage to combine it with innovative fashion forms – it is where the old and the new meet, resulting in an inspiring mixture. The show was clearly inspired by Tamil traditional festivities, both through the interior decorations and the dance performance that created a unique atmosphere of the show, and exposed the audience to a tiny fragment of the designer’s background, so crucial for understanding the message conveyed by the collection itself, as it “addressed the designer’s longing for home through the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes” (https://fashionweek.berlin/en/designer-2024/kitschy-couture.html)

The main motif is about reworking and deconstructing bridal outfits, with flower-decorated hairdos, layers of white fringe, embroidered écru fabrics, immense ribbons, sari drapings, silk, silk, and – one more time – silk! The collection included not only traditional full-length dresses, but also transparent lace skirts, flowery corsets and blue bolero jackets, mini-skirts, platform shoes, ornamented silk trousers, and impressive veils – worn by male models. All in all – Tamil tradition has been re-invented. 

Sia Arnika – “The Power Of Transformation Through Clothing, Fabrics And Expression”

“Each collection I create embraces duality, and this narrative revolves around contrasts like disarray and ornamentation, the mundane and the provocative, and the art of layering and shaping,” says Sia Arnika (https://fashionweek.berlin/en/designer-2024/sia-arnika.html) in reference to her latest collection. The idea of dichotomy seems to be, indeed, at its core: with the minimalist makeup and haircuts, and layers of bare fabric on the one side – and a latex mini-dress with fake feathers on the other.

It is this constant juxtaposition that Arnika bases her fashion on, at the same time not only embracing the contrasts within fashion, but also within human beings themselves: “I always say that I have this dichotomy in me; two things that I try to merge … I guess that’s where I feel I am as a designer and as a person: between being more grown up, and still with a very playful take on fashion,” admits Arnika in her interview for Vogue Runway. Her latest show perfectly encapsulates her words.

On the one hand there’re most basic garments, with tailoring and ornamentation reduced to absolute minimum (all in black, grey, khaki, and dark blue); on the other hand, Arnika offers us a unique fringed felt jacket, a full-length, riddled-with-holes white hooded dress, or a transparent black mesh dress, completed by sequined underwear. By these means, she manifests that even extreme contrasts can end up in a homogenous combination, be it in fashion, or in ourselves.

Jean Paul Gaultier captioned their post: 

“We are happy to announce Paco Rabanne’s Julien Dossena will be the guest designer for the next Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture collection in July 2023.
A merging of Jean Paul Gaultier and Paco Rabanne’s creative DNA.”

Since Jean Paul Gaultier’s retirement in 2020, the design house has employed a system where a guest designer collaborates with the brand to create a Haute Couture collection, allowing a new designer to share their perspective on the reputable brand each season. In the past Jean Paul Gaultier has recruited Chitose Abe, Glenn Martens, Olivier Rousteing and Haider Ackermann. This will be the first time that the brand’s guest designer will come from the same conglomerate. 

While we will have to wait until July to see the collection, we have seen Dossena work with archival designs and re-imaginations at Paco Rabanne and so it will be exciting to see how he plays with JPG’s rich history.

As the announcement on Instagram claimed there will be a “merging of Jean Paul Gaultier and Paco Rabanne’s creative DNA” it will also be interesting to see how Dossena incorporates some of Paco Rabanne’s instantly recognisable iconography, such as their metallic disks, into a JPG collection. One thing is for certain though, we cannot wait to see the collection show in Paris this July.

It is never too early to start talking about LFW; the anticipation and excitement has been bubbling. So, we are very pleased to announce the provisional schedule for the week has been released. The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced the week of shows which will highlight trends and talent will be a hybrid of online and offline shows. Specifications regarding timings and format will be finalised and released in January 2023 for both digital and physical lineups.

So, the burning question is of course, what can we expect at the BFC’s LFW 2023? Well, we know both menswear and womenswear designers will showcase their collections for AW 23/24 and we will witness Burberry’s first collection under the influence of their new creative director, Daniel Lee. If more intrigue is needed, don’t fret, there is plenty to keep us on our toes. We can also expect wonderful moments from Christopher Kane, Molly Goddard, Erdem, Simone Rocha and Roksanda.

2023 is a monumental year for BFC as they celebrate the 30^th anniversary of their NEWGEN initiative. BFC set up the scheme in 1993 for aspiring designers to show their collections at LFW and gain support for their businesses in the hopes of creating global luxury brand success in the future. Beginning this LFW, the anniversary celebrations will allow creatives to come together to appreciate the past alumni of the initiative as well as celebrate the city’s rich history within the industry. The Old Selfridges Hotel will graciously return as host for the NEWGEN show space. This year we have participation from notable designers such as Nensi Dojaka, HELEN KIRKUM, ASAI, Yuhan Wang, MASHA POPOVA and Conner Ives.

In support of Ukrainian fashion this season’s schedule will showcase Ukranian designers FROLOV, KSENIASCHNAIDER AND PASKAL. The initiative not only aims to promote the creativity and fashion scene of Ukraine, but also the hope and resilience Ukranian designers and citizens are holding.

For industry professionals attending physical shows this coming February, accreditation opens in January.

The post BFC Shares Their Provisional Schedule For LFW This February appeared first on Voir Fashion.

The London Fashion Week returns this June from Saturday 11th June till Monday 13th June, with young upcoming labels on the list. The event will be held digitally and in-person again. Since the inception of the June event, the showcase has “evolved to support a future of fashion that eliminates gender constructs”.
Twenty physical and 14 digital activations will showcase their work.

LFW will kick off on Saturday with Carlota Barrera, a Spanish designer based in London. Her elegant menswear, seen from the female gaze, features contemporary designs that create emotions and question gender identity.

They are followed by AGR, founded by London designer Alicia Robinson: a knitwear brand is known for its bold colours inspired by London’s diverse culture, with the main focus on up-cycling and sustainability.

Sunday’s highlight is Ahluwalia, fashion pieces inspired by family trips taken to Nigeria and India, music and art, and London roots.

Other collection launches include Agnė Kuzmickaitė, QASIMI, Tiger of Sweden, HENSHALL, University of Westminster BA, etc.

DiscoveryLAB returns this year to the digital schedule, too, in collaboration with DAZED to give viewers the chance to connect with emerging brands. These collaborations explore the intersection of fashion, music, art, photography, and performance. Participants are ABAGA VELLI, Bad Habits London, Brandon Choi, KINGWEN, Lea Nyland Studio, Mark Chapman, Noirgaze, PERTE D’EGO, SansPeng, seventyfive and TREDDENICK.

Launched in South London in 2017 by duo Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault, KNWLS strives to portray femininity in a more dangerous and sensual way compared to other fashion brands. The brand is known for producing experimental body-con designs covered in loud textures and print, and aim to accentuate silhouettes in unconventional ways which prioritise sensuality and the strength of femininity.

S.S. Daley

Hailing from Liverpool, Daley seeks to question the structural nature of British heritage in his work and raise questions about the British class system. With previous experience working under the houses of Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford, Daley has used the experience gained from those brands and launched his own. With a particular interest in the feminine aspects of masculine culture, Daley offers a uniquely British perspective for the fashion world.

ERL

Designed by Eli Russell Linnetz, ERL is an American ready-to-wear brand that aims to capture the colourful and chilled spirit of California through simple and sensual takes on staple American pieces. The brand includes womenswear, tailoring, accessories and even childrenswear, showcasing a real variety and desire to provide for as many people as possible.

Winnie NY

Whilst now based in the US, Idris Balogun, the man behind Winnie NY, has roots in the British fashion industry having earned an apprenticeship at London’s Savile Row and graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology. After those experiences, he gained a position at Burberry helping to develop the view of the brand, before transitioning to Tom Ford where he worked as Director of menswear.

Róisín Pierce

Irish womenswear designer Róisín combines innovative and artisanal techniques in her work, wanting to explore the tradition of craftsmanship and its role in Irish women’s history. Pierce has already won a number of awards including the Chanel Métiers d’Art accolade and the Prix du Public, so it’s safe to say she has already begun to make a name for herself. With a passion for zero waste cutting techniques, Pierce aims to create a more sustainable brand for the future of fashion.

Ryunosukeokazaki

Based in Tokyo, Ryunosuke’s work is themed around the harmony between people and nature. Born and raised in Hiroshima, peace and prayer are huge points of interests for Ryunosuke’s craft. Uniquely, the designer doesn’t draw his designs but instead works with his hands and the fabrics to create the dress from the beginning. Ryunosuke launched his brand in 2018 and graduated from the Tokyo University of Arts in 2021 with a Design MA.

Tokyo James

Iniye Tokyo james is a British-Nigerian designer at the front of a wave of new fashion talent emerging from Africa. James studied at Queen Mary University in London before beginning work as a stylist for multiple international publications, as well as directing brand campaigns for companies including Issey Miyake and Puma. James has even extended out of fashion designs and launched his own digital publication called Rough UK, with international versions launched in Italy and New York.

Ashlyn

South Korean designer Ashlynn Park has over a decade of experience in the industry across both Asia (having worked in Tokyo and her native Seoul) and the US, with her current workplace being New York. Park has worked as a fashion designer and pattern maker for iconic Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and, after moving to New York in 2011, joined Alexander Wang. Park applies traditional Eastern design elements and techniques with Western practices, creating the best of both worlds. Her work celebrates femininity and strives to be timeless and elegant whilst also minimising environmental harm.
