The coat’s soft fur lapels and cuffs lend a touch of luxury and extravagance. 

 Raul Lopez’s artistry is evident in the meticulous attention to detail and precision with which each piece is constructed. The use of zippers and the tailored fit of the leather garments demonstrate a high level of skill and craftsmanship, implying that each piece is both a fashion statement and a work of art.

AREA Collection: Exploring The Interplay Of Eyes, Cut-Outs And Embellishments

At the recent AREA fashion show, designers Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk redefined contemporary glamour with their bold silhouettes and innovative use of embellishments.

At the recent Coach fashion show, the motif of bows emerged as a charming and consistent theme, woven throughout the collection with a sense of playfulness and nostalgia. 

The bow, a symbol often associated with femininity and whimsy, was woven into the designs in a manner that balanced sweetness with sophistication. One of the dresses featured was a magnificent bloom of pastel peonies on a blush pink canvas. The gown’s voluminous skirt and fitted bodice allowed the floral print to take centre stage. Ludovic de Saint Sernin: Metal Mesh And Crystal Mesh Materiels Grace The Runway

Metal mesh and crystal mesh dominated the Ludovic de Saint Sernin fashion show, demonstrating the designer’s innovative power and exceptional ability of merging textures and shapes. These materials, both flexible and fluid, hugged the body to reveal and conceal.

Altuzarra Ready To Wear FW Collection – Mix And Match Prints

Altuzarra’s Ready-to-Wear FW Collection made a bold statement on the runway with its masterful mix-and-match print moments, embracing a vibrant narrative of patterns. The juxtaposition of fiery reds and yellows with more subdued earthy tones creates visual tension, showcasing Altuzarra’s print mixing ability. 

One of the looks is a dress consisting of stripes against a flowery explosion, playing with the concepts of order and chaos. The fluidity of the skirt’s print softens the top’s dramatic stripes, resulting in an ensemble that is both a piece of art and a fashion statement. 

Another look is a jumpsuit with a coherent blend of organic and geometric elements. The pattern change does not disrupt the flow of the garment, demonstrating how clashing prints may work together to produce a single, flowing piece that is both dynamic and elegant. 

Although Altuzarra’s collection was generally more casual ready to wear looks, these garments were the highlight of the show. the vibrant exploration of print on print demonstrates the combination of unexpected patterns to create outfits that are both unique and unforgettable.

Couture with a kick; a fearless razzle dazzle; expression with an edge. Area’s couture is the merciless glamour we have grown to expect from couture, yet in a distinctly and unapologetically loud way. Bold badass boss energy: Area’s couture collection is undeniably relevant.

Featuring Precious Lee and Yasmin Wijnaldum, the brand’s direction is clearly to make waves within the sea of traditional couture. Unlike other Couture collections we have seen this year, Area’s statement speaks not just of its artwork and designs, but to the Woman. Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk have composed a melody to the ears of the independent female: fashion is not, they seem to say, about what you wear or how you wear it, it is about why you wear it. Liberatingly daring silhouettes with amazingly excessive jewels and chunky, diamante clogs, more is definitely more.

The collection opens with a black tailored power suit, accented with silver coin-esque metal work and tied together by a statement diamanté bow. Its twin, the second look, is equally powerful but with a more relaxed, almost streetwear, twist. The hugging, wrap-around stoned jewellery not only proposes a fresh take on jewellery (hello sparkly necklace ankle warmers!) but is also seen throughout the collection, in the form of the spiralling, skeletal dresses, tops and headwear. The barely-there drama of these looks showcases Area’s embracing of the Woman, the power within our veins when we love and accept the skin we are in!

This develops into a majestic, extravagantly shrouding look which sees chain-like rows of diamante draped and dripped from the model in a continuous, fluid, movement. Sweeping across the realm of Couture, Area’s collection digresses to boned, abstract pieces: a netted ensemble, a tasselled white dress and three bold cake dresses. The playing with shape and structure here seems to again emphasis the power of accepting your own skin: all shapes are beautiful and powerful, no matter how ‘abstract’ they may seem.

From start to finish, AREA’S Couture collection pushes the boundaries of shape and expression.

Bold and statement worthy, the volume trend has marked its territory for the upcoming season. Amongst the numerous trends spotted in the Autumn/Winter 2020 collections, the volumized look has most definitely caught our attention. Who can blame us when this trend screams the classic go big or go home!

Voluminous sleeves

It was only a matter of time before voluminous sleeves returned to the forefront, claiming its place yet again as a stylish go-to. In the Autumn/Winter 2020 show, voluminous sleeves made a strong appearance amongst many of the collections. Roksanda’s orange maxi with oversized ruffle sleeves is one of our favourites along with Richard Quinn’s bulbous sleeved dresses which rock that nostalgic 80’s feel. If you dare for more extravagance, Viktor and Rolfe display a sculptural pink dress that is sure to turn some heads. A bulging sleeve is asymmetrically paired with one of contrasting size, offering a playful approach to volume.

Bubble up

As the colder months approach, this trend offers a practical yet stylish option for the upcoming season. The catwalk featured an array of enveloping garments with outerwear and dresses offering a bubble-like protective layer. This was a strong look in J.W. Anderson’s collection consisting of spherical silhouettes inclusively wrapping around the body. At Halpern, a dress of explosive colour engulfs the wearer, leaving only the front of the legs visible. Marine Serre took the inclusive look even further with black puffy outwear that conceals around the head; practicality at its best.

Exaggerate the Hip

The Autumn/Winter shows saw an extreme exaggeration of the hips; Area and Moschino being two of the houses that utilize the look. To say that Area’s jackets and dresses accentuate from the waist would be an understatement. Area has pushed hip volume to the extreme with a bulging heart shape that protrudes from a nipped waist. Moschino similarly presents an array of long-sleeved dresses that encompass an umbrella effect around the hip. Paired with knee-high boots, we love how Moschino has merged the traditional with a modern 2020 twist.

Ruffled Volume and Tulle

When we think of tulle it is almost impossible for the words ‘puffy’ ‘big’ and ‘Molly Goddard’ not to spring to mind. We can always rely on Goddard to present some extravagant tulle pieces on the catwalk and for Autumn/Winter 2020 they are voluminous and bold yet still retain that delicate quality. A red dress consisting of ruffled tulle expands outwards and is layered over a jumper for a more casual look. We love how Goddard has paired a sense of volume and extravagance with a staple jumper. At Louis Vuitton, ruffles can also be seen amongst skirts and dresses, the sheerness of the fabric lending itself to layering. Ruffled skirts and dresses can be paired with a sheer trouser as seen in Louis Vuitton or with a checked trouser from Molly Goddard, creating a subtle layered look that is versatile for every season. We’re just over halfway through New York Fashion Week and we’ve seen nothing but extravagant looks. Jeremy Scott collaborated with contemporary artist, Aleksandra Mir, who hand-drew headlines on denim and monochrome in classic streetwear fits. Area focussed on vintage inspired looks in a houndstooth print and Prabal Gurung showcased midi skirts, quilting and furry coats in pops of colour. Boss lady fits and sports luxe were merged into classic Brandon Maxwell’s signature tailoring and Tomo Koizumi showcased multicoloured fluffy ensembles that broke the internet, with only 30 days worth of preparation.
