“Skinimalism” is the beauty trend set to take over 2021. It’s solely about using certain ingredients for specific skin concerns and also condensed skincare routines. Piling up countless products onto the skin takes away its ability to repair itself. Skinimalism brings awareness to the fact that achieving healthy skin is about doing more with less. The skinimalism trend is set to change the skincare game.

In a world of unrealistic beauty standards, the rise of skinimalism is evidential that many people are looking to move away from this by embracing their natural skin. As a society, we are beginning to accept blemishes and flaws. There isn’t the necessity to cover these up. On social media, it is apparent that many influencers are paving the way for others to feel more confident in themselves by posting images of their bare skin without enhancing it with makeup and photo-retouching.

Aiming for photoshopped skin is unattainable, which is slowly becoming widely realised. The beauty industry is beginning to understand that consumers are moving away from “perfect” beauty. Initially skinimalism started trending on Pinterest from their users searching ‘natural everyday makeup’ and ‘how to get naturally glowing skin’. These popular searches show that consumers are looking for something more real and uncomplicated, that they want to embrace their natural skin.

Whilst we have been living through a global pandemic, numerous people have simplified their skincare and makeup routines due to spending most of the past year in a lockdown. Therefore, only using what is necessary to maintain healthy skin. Not only this, but the pandemic has given people the time to become conscious of their skin and how to create a good skincare routine. Also, this time enabled people to understand the ingredients that work well for their skin type. Consequently, COVID-19 has more than likely boosted the popularity of this trend.

The simplest way to get into skinimalism is to go back to basics. Overloaded skin can cause breakouts and sensitivity. It’s about people feeling comfortable in their true form and opting for a natural version of themselves. It’s a worthwhile and positive trend that everyone can get behind.
