]]> Just in time for summer, two of our favourite brands, Ester Manas and Ganni, have joined forces to create a collection of tropical swimwear and evening wear that flatters every body type while incorporating elements from both brands. 

Ester Manas is a brand focused on inclusivity and sustainability, founded in 2019 by Belgian duo Ester Manas and Balthazar Delepierre. They have received acclaim from the H&M Design Award, the Hyères Festival, the ANDAM Prize and the LVMH Prize, and have been described as “the most size-inclusive brand at fashion week” by the New York Times. If Lizzo is a fan, so are we! Pieces are made from mostly dead stock and upcycled fabrics to ensure sustainability, making Ganni a good partner as they have goals to reduce carbon emissions, switch to 100% recyclable packaging, and promote rental clothing.

Ganni is a Danish fashion brand founded as a cashmere line by Frans Truelsen in 2000. It has since transformed to focus on ready-to-wear pieces with a minimalist, ‘cool girl’ Scandinavian style seen on celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid. Ganni has previously faced criticism for a lack of larger sizes and only going up to a US 12, but extended sizes to make way for collaborations with Juicy Couture, Levis, and plus-size retailer 11 Honoré.

Together, they have created a size-inclusive resort collection consisting of 16 pieces in sizes EU32–EU52. The capsule captures the quintessential holiday vibes with cropped t-shirts, colourful dresses, and fun bikinis for any body type. Talking to I-D Magazine, Ditte Reffstrup, Creative Director of Ganni, said they wanted to “conjure that mood you’re in when you’re going on a holiday, and everything feels so light and joy-filled” as well as something that “exuded a sense of feeling confident and sexy in your own skin”. The collection is also manufactured in an eco-friendly manner, using materials like organic cotton, recycled polyamide, and recycled polyester mesh.

]]> We love seeing more size-inclusive brands emerge as well as pre-existing brands become more diverse by developing a broader range of clothing sizes. We are strong believers in normalising and celebrating different body shapes in mass-market fashion, which is easily available to all. Trust us, we know there is still a lot of work to be done in achieving this dream of ours, however, we are pleased with the progress we are seeing. 

We have selected fourteen brands which are leading the body positivity movement. They are showing style does not have to be compromised when producing a wide range of sizes. Watch out for these brands in 2023 as we believe they will continue to create positivity, inclusion and sick fashion.

Ester Manas

No surprise that Ester Manas is on our top 14 fashion-forward size-inclusive brands list. If you are unfamiliar with their designs, once you take a look, you will soon have a new obsession. Their use of sheer materials, asymmetrical designs and abstract cuts are hard not to get excited about. 

Yitty

Lizzo’s fashion brand, Yitty, is described as shapewear reinvented. As we all know, the style icon and award winner would never sacrifice her passion for fashion and her brand, Yitty, is proof. Sizing varying between a UK 8-36, means Lizzo’s brand accommodates for a vast range of body types. Alongside shapewear, the satin pyjamas, robes and underwear are all sexy and stylish- good job Lizzo. Amazingly, the Yitty style quiz offered on the site also helps cater to your style preference and clothing needs. 

Isolated Heroes

Scottish self-start up brand Isolated Heroes not only places emphasis on sustainability, but also size-inclusivity. Offering sizes up to a UK 28, the fashion brand creates glamorous evening attire and head-turning designs. If you are a fan of sequins, they will become a core brand for your 2023 looks. 

Alpine Butterfly Swim

It is never too early to get your holiday swimwear bought, and after seeing these pieces you will not be able to resist. Alpine Butterfly Swim create luxury swimwear which we are in love with and there’s no surprise as to why. With incredible collections inspired by space, 90s supermodels and psychedelics, there are designs to suit everyone.  

Good American

Of course, Good American features. Brand values of body diversity and size representation, means Good American stocks sizes from UK 2- 28. The brand is super inclusive and is great for finding basic fashion staples as well as one-off pieces. Known for their well-fitted denim, Good American will not let you down in regards to trendy, inclusive styles. 

Miaou

A French brand inspired by the coastline of California, what’s not to love? Miaou’s purpose was to create clothing to feel good in and they certainly have achieved their goal. The ‘perfect fit’ inspired the designs and allowed the brand to expand on its sizing to cater to more consumers. Specialising in corsetry, Miaou, will have an endless collection for you to find your perfect style, and of course, perfect fit. 

Savage X Fenty

Rihanna’s successful lingerie brand is sure to meet anyone’s underwear needs. Not only will you find an incredible selection of lacy and sexy lingerie sets, but also super comfy lounge and pyjama sets. Or maybe you are looking for a workout set? Guess what, they have that too. You can’t go wrong with a Savage x Fenty exploration. 

Karoline Vitto

A brand which captures the true essence of size-inclusion. Karoline Vitto’s designs are contemporary and high fashion. Based in London but Brazilian born, she focuses on female form in unconventional manners and this is evident through her designs. Women’s curves and folds are a central motif for her garment design process, and therefore, size, is a literal inspiration for her. Designs are available in a UK 8- 28. 

Skims

Skims clothing comes in a wide range of sizes at very affordable prices. Their ‘fits everybody’ collection highlights their brand focus on creating clothes for as many body sizes as possible. Love. Stretchy underwear and technically constructed shapewear are popular designs from the brand as they try to innovate the fashion industry, providing solutions for women who feel they are not properly being catered to. 

Chopova Lowena

If you are a Dua Lipa fan, you will probably be aware that she is a fan of Chopova Lowena. Their hybrid designs are produced through mixed inspirations of Bulgarian folklore and 1980’s rock climbing. Two very different worlds coming together to produce a state of high fashion. Colour and pattern are very central to their expression of their influence.

GIA/irl

Elegant and classic designs are available in sizes UK 10-28 from brand GIA/irl. The beautiful gowns come in satins and stretchy linens to create captivating comfort. GIA/irl also offers styling tips with each of their products which is super helpful if you need a little advice. 

Blueki

Created in New York by model Yumi Nu, Blueki, was created to promote size-inclusive fashion. Representing different shapes and sizes is hugely important to the brand and we are therefore very happy to feature the brand on our list. As a new brand they are doing super well and we believe their success will only continue to grow.

Fashion East

Fashion East is synonymous with looking cool. The non-profit offers upcoming designers’ opportunities to showcase their designs and celebrate body positivity. Ahead of the times, they showcase new and captivating designs which are eye-catching and hard to miss. Maybe not for everyone, but it’s definitely for us. If innovative fashion is up your street, Fashion East is a NPO you should get familiar with.

Designers such as Karoline Vitto are currently working with the NPO, however, previous designers include Gareth Wrighton and Nensi Dojaka.

The battle for mannequin diversity has become a hot topic of discussion over the last month, and Fenty has joined the battle.

As the plus-size Nike mannequin was unveiled in their London flagship store two weeks ago causing a major stir online, with Tanya Gold from The Telegraph arguing that plus-sized women should guess their body shape on clothing instead (??) – our attention is now laser-focused on how our clothes are being presented to us.

Despite negative comments from journalists, for most the Nike mannequin was a welcomed sight to customers who are and have often felt alienated by brands ‘ideal size’ for their clothes. After all this was in dire need, Topshop in 2017 received a whole facet of complaints after a mother of a 15-year-old girl (a large, impressionable demographic of Topshop’s consumers) tweeted the emaciated size of their storefront mannequins which made nationwide news.

And in 2007, a law was enacted in Spain forbidding the use of mannequins smaller than a size 6, as on average female mannequins in Europe wear a 4-6 dress size, a substantial deviation from the UK dress-size average of a 14-16.

So when Rihanna revealed her own non-standard size mannequins last week for her Fenty pop-up in New York, Twitter and Instagram understandably went mad.

Mannequins at Fenty

The release of her eponymous brand Fenty, part of LVMH, was already widely anticipated, as her previous releases and designer collaborations have always received sincere support and admiration. Her work for Puma sold out after every release, and her lingerie brand and beauty brand, all under her now billion-dollar worth Fenty trademark, have become renowned across the board for breaking fashion and beauty traditions.

Rihanna has made it her imperative in the industry to dare to be different, showing the sex appeal and beauty of women who are pregnant, dark skinned, albino, short, tall, and plus-size. Fundamentally, Fenty (beauty, lingerie and fashion house) have been made with every woman in mind.

“You can have all the clothes in the world, but what does my body want to wear today?” – Rihanna

Integrated between ‘regular-sized’ mannequins was a fundamental a celebration of normal feminine bodily curves. Rounded bellies, hip-dips, non-surgically flat stomachs, wider abdomens, larger breasts and behinds – shapes you expect to see on your friends, family and women all over, yet not on those selling you clothes.

Curvy mannequins at Fenty

When speaking to Vogue for Fenty’s initial release last month, Rihanna explained that her collection was made because – “I ain’t no sample size no more girl”, and let’s face it, for most of us, neither are we. The fluctuations in her weight were the main inspiration for the shapes of the designs; it would make sense that the mannequins showed it worked for her body type, alongside others.

As Jameela Jamil told Paper Magazine:

“If you can’t design things that look good on people who are bigger than just a 0 or 2, you aren’t talented.”
