]]> The end of last week saw one of high street fashion’s most exciting announcements come out of the woodwork. After a lot of speculation H&M shared that their latest designer collaboration will be with French fashion house Mugler. The high-street fashion brand shared the news with a promotional video that starred Shygirl, Arca, Eartheater and Amaarae who performed the campaign’s soundtrack; a re-recording of ‘Music Sounds Better with You’. 

The video celebrates all things theatrical. The inclusive cast partake in various activities; from modelling to singing, they even take over a talk show. One thing we are particularly grateful for is that the campaign allows us a second look at Arca’s iconic modelling that took over our Instagram feeds at the Mugler show back in January.

Despite being a H&M launch, the collection is instantly recognisable as Mugler. The promotional videos and images show various looks, from jumpsuits to tops that feature Mugler’s distinct, bold, and futuristic designs. They play with sheer mesh, a Mugler trademark, which compliments a lot of the more structured pieces. There are also looks that play with cut-outs and crossover details that really emphasise the influences that Mugler have had over the campaign.

While the majority of the collection appears to be quite dark, we do get a snapshot at some more vibrant colours. From cobalt blue dresses to neon green suits, some of Mugler’s signature colours have shone through. Many in the form of perfect party looks for the summer.

The collection also appears to have a lot of fun with denim. The various black panelled jeans provide a more unique take on denim, something that is a set trend for this season. The collection also appears to accommodate for the double-denim trend that is taking the fashion world by storm as we see hints at a denim jean and jacket co-ord. 

Our stand-out piece from the collection has to be the black jumpsuit worn by Arca. The mesh panelling and strategic design is pure Mugler and could be styled in so many ways. Whether you wear it as a catsuit, or layer items with it to break the look up, the look is beautiful as it is but also hold so much potential for styling. And, we must say, nothing screams Mugler quite like a catsuit. 

The collection will be available online and in select stores from the 11th of May 2023 and we cannot wait to see what the full collection has in store for us.

]]> In January 2022, Jean Paul Gaultier paired with designer and Y/Project Creative Director Glenn Martens on a Haute Couture collection, but little did we know just how popular this collaboration would become. The re-imagination of Jean Paul Gaultier’s famous ‘naked’ prints took over the industry, everybody was talking about them and, more importantly, everybody was wearing them. 

So, it is no surprise that after the success of the first collection, Jean Paul Gaultier and Y/Project have come back with a second collaboration. While the first collection was Haute Couture, this collaboration is a Ready-to-Wear collection inspired by the Parisian fashion house’s iconic trompe l’œil prints. The collection features an array of fun designs that also play with ‘fake’ photo prints, this time opting for pieces that depict other designs or clothing items on them. These include skirts with jeans printed on them, tops that look like jackets and dresses that appear as a completely different outfit. 

With another collection that is grounded in optical illusion, we are predicting that this collaboration is going to be just as popular as the last, so here are our stand-out pieces.

The Trompe L’œil Y Belt T-shirt

‘The trompe l’œil Y Belt T-shirt’ would be a great statement graphic-tee to incorporate into your wardrobe, especially if you wanted a graphic-tee that wasn’t heavy on text or logos.  The piece is playful and visually interesting and could be styled in so many fun ways, especially when you consider pairing it with pieces that juxtapose the denim print.

The Blue Trompe- L’œil Janty Mini Skirt

‘The Blue trompe- l’œil Janty mini skirt’ is the perfect party-piece and it is unapologetically Jean Paul Gaultier. You see this skirt, and you instantly know who it is by. But again, it makes such a statement without relying on any logos, which is something that we are seeing designer brands make a swift move away from. 

The Burgundy Trompe- L’œil Lingerie Tank Top

Finally, ‘The Burgundy trompe- l’œil lingerie Tank top’ would be the ultimate investment from this collection. A tank top is already such a versatile piece that can be worn in so many different ways but when combined with this design and the more muted colour-palette, the potential that this piece offers is endless. You could use it to re-invigorate a basic outfit, you could create an interesting take on the underwear-as-outerwear trend with it or you could even play with the layering aspect of the design by layering the tank top itself. The possibilities are honestly endless.

]]> She’s all dolled up and ready to dance in the moonlight – it’s just the high feminine mystical energy that we’d expect from Kali Uchis.

The Grammy-winning American-Colombian superstar returns with another taste of her new album Red Moon In Venus dropping an opulent track overflowing with hedonist desires: ‘Moonlight’. Ultra-buttery, blissful, and smoky, on the bilingual single Kali romantically yearns to get high with her lover serenading us in Spanish and English. The single was released on the 24th February but fans heard a sneak peek of the track when it was teased by Kali on her TikTok account back in November. 

It’s the second single from Red Moon in Venus which will drift between soul, R&B, pop, and música urbana according to the singer. On the album “Love is the message,” Uchis explains, “Red Moon In Venus is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus. The moon and Venus work together to make key aspects of love and domestic life work well. This body of work represents all levels of love—releasing people with love, drawing love into your life and self-love. It’s believed by many astrologers that the blood moon can send your emotions into a spin, and that’s what I felt represented this body of work best”. Uchis reportedly went into the recording process intending to create an album that felt timeless, one that can be enjoyed any time and any place and will remain meaningful throughout the years to her and her fans. You can hear this fiery yet soft LP on 3rd March.

Kali Uchis on Red Moon in Venus

In an interview with Pitchfork Kali spilled that the 15-track album includes a couple of Spanish-language tracks, but that they are “conceptually and sonically” different from the songs on her next Spanish album she’s releasing later this year. “When I think of Red Moon in Venus, I think of being on a bike ride, or laying in the sun listening on my headphones,” she said. Her next album will be more upbeat exploring her “bitchier side” according to the artist. “Being multidimensional, there’s all these different sides of me that I need to show”.

The new track follows previous Red Moon In Venus offering the delicate and ethereal sad girl tune ‘I Wish You Roses’, which arrived alongside a dreamy rose-tinted video directed by Cho Gi-Seok.

Her US tour supported by RAYE starts in April and is already sold out – we’re hoping that UK and EU dates will be dropping close behind the release of the album. She’s also set to be playing a few festival dates this Summer including Coachella and Lollapalooza.

Raised between Virginia and Colombia, though it’s hard to believe now Kali Uchis was originally more interested in making films than being in the spotlight. Her 2012 debut mixtape Drunken Babble was praised for its genre-defying nature the singer having pulled influence from R&B, 50s doo-wop, and reggae. She caught widespread attention with her debut EP Por Vida in 2015, and even more fame followed with her 2018 debut album, Isolation. Uchis has collaborated and shared stages with SZA, Tyler the Creator, Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, Diplo, Major Lazer, Snoop Dogg, Kaytranada, Leon Bridges, and boyfriend Don Toliver. Last year, Uchis achieved more success winning three Billboard Latin Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and an American Music Award.

Burberry launching virtual purses and another great Adidas collaboration will get us out of our midyear crisis. Keep reading if you are in desperate shopping need. 

Burberry’s Virtual Handbags

Many of us might not understand, but the metaverse will change fashion. We have seen Fashion Week and other fashion shows in the metaverse, a network of 3D virtual worlds. And even Coach and Gucci expanded their collections into the metaverse. Now Burberry is joining the metaverse forces by releasing a collection of virtual handbags in collaboration with Roblox. 

The limited edition of virtual handbags will only be available on Roblox, allowing users to dress their avatar in designer items. Inspired by the Burberry signature Lola bag, the collaboration is influenced by the brand’s “affinity for nature and the outdoors”. The bags usually cost about £1,500.00 and are available for 800 Robux (£8.99). 

Burberry will launch the limited edition bags every day from the 11th of June till the 15th, with every bag only being available for 24 hours. 

Adidas x Wood Wood 

The Adidas Originals “Forum Low” were released in the 80s. With their relaxed design, they were made for basketball but soon took over the music scene. Now, the retro shoe comes in a new design, making it perfect for the tennis court. 

Adidas and Copenhagen-based lifestyle brand Wood Wood have joined forces to reinterpret the 80s classic. Re-envisioned by WOOD WOOD’s co-founder Brian SS Jensen, they created a no-fuss tennis shoe. They swapped the Velcro fastening with laces to achieve that but kept the iconic “Forum Low” design. The shoes come in three colour stories, paying homage to the 80s colours: Mustard Yellow, Burnt Orange and the Wood Wood exclusive Electric blue. The new design also keeps the characteristic smooth white leather, the perforated toe box, the mesh tongue and, of course, the three stripes. 

The collection launched on June 13, with a global launch following on July 21.

Sasha Keable and Jorja Smith wore stunning looks in the music video for ‘Killing Me’. The video is styled by @_asmailz – the opening all-black outfits reflect a reimagined mourning outfit, which later moves into a dreamy, red dance moment. The silky bustier blazer is custom from Atelier Mundane, layered on top of a black latex long-sleeve suit from Elissa Poppy to create a stunning contrast of shinning fabrics. Di Petsa created beautiful pieces which resemble wet, white fabric. The light and flowy red dresses, spotted later in the video are custom gowns from @jaime.morales.cortes, which create a beautiful array of movement and complement the staple red lips and long nails shown throughout the visuals.

Sofia Reyes and Becky G

Sofia Reyes & Becky G’s outfits throughout the ‘Mal de Amores’ video are constantly fun and stylish! Styled by @poccs, the pairs’ silk green and purple head-to-toe looks are created by Marcell von Berlin. The details of sparkling crystals, fringe elements, and flared trousers create exciting and colourful looks – these elements are also perfect for catching the light when dancing. Sofia Reyes also wears a stunning set consisting of pink and red shorts, a Bralette top, and a cropped fringe jacket. The vibrancy of these looks is definitely giving us inspiration for festival looks and nights outs!

Chloe Bailey

Styled by Max Ortega and Zerina Akers, Chlöe Bailey’s looks are gorgeous in the ‘Have Mercy’ music video. The video opens with Chlöe in a tailored, pink checkered blazer from Area. The pastel pink sunglasses are a perfect addition to the structured blazer! During the dance break, Chlöe wears a custom pink bikini look by Rey Ortiz with multiple ribbons, crystals and ties making this the perfect look for moving in. The music video also has stunning matching sets, from matching pink sports bras and shorts to a fur pastel pink skirt and bralette.

Kara Marni

Kara Marni brings together earthly elements through her looks in the music video for ‘2nd Nature’. Styled by Anastasia, the looks embody wind, fire and water. The white dress representing wind is flowy and light, made from sheer tulle fabrics. Fire is embodied through a black and red latex set, paired with matching gloves and skin-tight boots. The water look is created through a deconstructed blue knit dress, layered with shimmering crystals which create movement in different lights to mimic the water reflection.
