]]> Not dissimilar from y2k, you’ve probably seen McBling all over your Instagram feed. Inspired by the early 2000s when Paris Hilton was at large, bedazzled Blackberrys were the ‘It’ phone and ‘juicy’ was embellished on the back of everything. Think baby pink, in-your-face bling, diamantes, low-rise pants, textures and powerful prints. This aesthetic is definitely one to catch your eye, so here’s all the inspo you need to take you back in time.


Textures galore

A mixture of textures is a must for this trend, particularly velour, fishnet, fluff and denim – so it’s time to get creative.

In this throwback look from Paris Hilton, she rocked this night-out look in a black fishnet top with a pink low-rise micro skirt complete with a diamante belt.

In another throwback look from Paris Hilton, she looked pretty in pink in a sheer babydoll dress with fluffy trimmings as she held her bedazzled flip phone (of course).

Bringing big energy, Latto wore a Pucci outfit with a pink fluffy bralet, micro bag and embellished heeled sandals – very Barbie.

Looking bad and boujee, Latto also wore a fishnet top with a denim bikini and micro skirt for her Booty music video.

Always one to stand out from the crowd, Cardi B embraced the rainbow with a Marni multicoloured fluffy hat, white tank top, low-rise jeans and Balenciaga x Crocs Rubber Boots styled with Balenciaga White Cat Eye Sunglasses and a Maison Margiela Snatched Clutch Bag.

Queen of bling in this Swarovski look, Paris Hilton wore a pink velour mini dress to shine like a diamond.

A velour set is a must-have for every McBling girl’s wardrobe, we love the fits from Juicy Couture and Baby Phat below – the OG 2000s brands – just don’t forget the diamante embellishments!

The Micro Skirt

Like y2k, the micro skirt is essential to the McBling aesthetic as skirts got even shorter in the early 2000s, so get ready to bare your legs like these fashion babes.

Denim for days, Amy Hallimond nailed the double-denim look in a Zara corset, Urban Outfitters micro skirt and Skinny Dip mini bag.

Amy also rocked this lime green micro skirt from Depop styled with the same Zara corset, shades and a silver studded belt.

Delilah Belle wore a Vintage Marcela micro set with a Dolce and Gabbana blue mini bag and a diamante belt for that extra bling.

Short and sweet, baby tees complete any McBling outfit, here are our faves:

Anisa Alexis looked cute as can be in a black Baby Phat tee with diamante embellishments.

Not your angel, Insta baddie Flossie wore a vintage baby tee with low-rise cargo pants and a bedazzled denim cap.

Always one to rock a retro look, Dua Lipa wore a vintage lime green tee with low-rise jeans and killer shades.

]]> Summer means it’s time to get rid of our comfortable knits and turtlenecks to make space for flowy
dresses and crop tops. But with all the usual summer clothes we also bring back a friend from the
past. From the mid-2000s, to be precise. As seen on the Spring/Summer 2022 runway, designers
bring back micro miniskirts, the tiniest skirts you have seen, and the perfect piece to elevate your
y2k fit. Maybe not the most comfortable outfit, but a fashion statement that shows who you are and
what you are about. TikTok and our favourite celebrity’s Instagram feeds have become indispensable
for these incredibly tiny skirts. Here are our favourite micro skirt Instagram looks:

We start with a bang! UK designer Mowalola returned to fashion week and presented their
“Burglarwear”, inspired by an examination of what it takes to steal. One of their most breath-taking
looks is the acid yellow barely-there leather fit. The micro skirt is scaringly short, with longer
applications on the sides. The skirt is connected to a wide stripe with a zip that goes up the body and
ends in a high collar, showing incredibly much skin. This outfit is accessorized with black leather
over-knee boots and a bag with a red strap. Definitely not an everyday look, but cool and edgy,
nonetheless.

Influencer Cannelle is a real Insta baddie. Her outfits scream y2k and are an inspiration. In her recent
look, the beauty is wearing a black pleated micro skirt embellished with eyelets and a red spider web
embroidered to the back. She paired it with an orange crocket bra top, white socks and nylon puffy
ankle boots. A silver choker around her neck and star chains in her hair finish this unique look.

The Miu Miu micro skirt has been everywhere. It’s an absolute y2k celebrity staple, from Hailey
Bieber to Nicole Kidman wearing this itsy-bitsy skirt. Euphoria star Sydney Sweeny wore the Miu Miu
skirt to the MTV Movie and TV Awards and blessed us with beautiful photos of her look on
Instagram. She wears the pink low-rise Micro skirt with a side slit over her left leg and black belt
details, in combination with a see-through cropped button-down shirt. But her chunky SILVER
platform heels, also by Miu Miu, were the real star of this outfit. With the silver glitter details and
diamanté heels, these shoes shine brighter than every star.

An effortless but beautiful look by Anastasia Karanikolaou. She wears a ruched white micro skirt by
Meshki, with diamanté straps at the waist. The satin finish of the skirt gives her a sleek and elegant
look, perfect for celebrating her 25th birthday. With the diamanté cowl neck halter top, also by
Meshki, Anastasia shows off luscious skin and adds even more glamour. Her high and sleek ponytail
shows off the big silver hoop earrings. Because of her injury, Anastasia paired her outfit with white
sneakers and white tennis socks. A beautiful look that is easy to recreate for your next night out.

Glamour and glory – that is what Flo Millie’s look communicates. The singer wears a black micro skirt
in a subtle zebra print with a matching top with a knot in the front. Accessories are a thick pearl
choker, statement rings on both hands and black flip-flop heels. A simple look that catches
everyone’s gaze.

Influencer Kenza Boutrif is sporting a head-to-toe Diesel look, combining two magnificent trends:
denim and micro skirts. From the blue striped top with Diesel plaque to the yellowish micro skirt and
the baby blue wool coat – this fit is perfection and a dream for every fashion lover. She accessorised
this look with knee-high denim heels and a Louis Vuitton 2005 Neo Speedy in denim look. An
ensemble from heaven.

If minimalism is not your thing, this mini skirt outfit is perfect for you. Musician Deta Black combines
different styles and materials to create a unique and head-turning outfit that we wouldn’t have
thought about. She wears a cropped jumper with a brown mini skirt with the print “Miniskirt”.
Message received! White fishnet stockings, knee-high boots with eyelets and studs, white sunglasses
and a classic black Channel bag finish off this chaotic but stylish look.

All black with a pop of yellow! Another Mowalola outfit that meets the criteria for a hot girl summer
look. All we can see is Micro! The pleated leather micro skirt, with the yellow branded patch on the
left side, is low-waisted to meet our beloved y2k aesthetic. The skirt is so tiny that you can see the
black underwear straps and the model’s back. With the sleeveless button-down shirt, this outfit
almost gets a sophisticated look. Styled with the micro Mowalola Bundle Handbag in Yellow
perfectly adds to the micro aesthetic.

]]> If you haven’t heard (or seen) the micro mini skirt is back with a vengeance. Like many of its Y2K counterparts, the teeny tiny mini is currently undergoing a huge fashion revival with its ultra skimpy silhouette being the go-to skirt of choice for all the fashion forwards out there.

The micro mini first came into our periphery in the 1960s with designer, Mary Quant, credited with having helped to invent the design. But it wasn’t until the late 90s and early 00s that the trend picked up steam, becoming the garment of the moment within pop culture. Beloved by A-listers such as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, the mini skirt was sported in a range of different iterations including distressed denim, low slung waistlines and ruffled hems.

The party-ready piece is now bursting onto the runways of Miu Miu and Blumarine, with the designers of the moment reimagining the skirt with embellished sequins, schoolgirl pleats and butterfly motifs galore. Just like back in the day, it’s the fashion It-Girls who are taking the trend and running with it, stars like Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa can often be found frolicking about in their shortest short skirts, of course in line with the rest of their vintage-inspired uniform! Generation Z has followed suit, taking note from high fashion labels and experimenting with the trend via social media platforms like Tiktok and Instagram.

As its popularity soars, is it comfort over style for this controversial trend? When it comes to the micro-mini we think otherwise, as its impracticality becomes ever more apparent. Appearing not much lengthier than your average wide waist belt, exposed midriffs and barely-there bottoms are just some of the risqué attributes the micro-mini presents … one gust of wind and all will be revealed, but do you really care? While the above may be true, we, for one, are not too fussed and quite frankly, nothing is going to stop us from jumping on the bandwagon of this style revival.

There is one major difference, though, from the micro-mini we saw two decades ago compared to the one we face as of late. Noughties fashion was notoriously exclusive and represented a real lack of diversity among those who wore it. The sexual connotations that the revealing style triggered only helped to exaggerate this problem. However, these days the power has been given back to the people and we are taking fashion and its meanings into our own hands. A style that once was created purely for the pleasing of a man, has now been recreated with a completely new agenda. The micro mini symbolises female empowerment, celebrating your body and dressing for yourself and that is exactly what we want to see in 2022. Girl power unlocked!
