Caroline Polachek – ‘Pretty Impossible’

The current it girl of alt-pop Caroline Polachek brought us the soundtrack to the latter half of February with her album Desire, I Want to Turn Into You. Fusing electronica with garage and a touch of house, she’s created a downtempo masterpiece that is an early candidate for album of the year. ‘Pretty Impossible’ is the song Caroline said she was most proud of in an interview with Crack magazine. Inspired by the string section on Massive Attack’s ‘Unfinished Sympathy’, it’s a dreamy trip-hop track full of lush violins and scatty beats. And that spoken word section is to die for.

Paramore – ‘Running Out of Time’

Paramore made their much-welcomed comeback after a 5-year hiatus this February with This Is Why. Anxious and introspective, the album deals with a myriad of global issues such as war and the pandemic and explodes with nervous energy providing a cathartic experience for the listener. ‘Running Out of Time’ is one of the best tracks from the album. Singer Hayley Williams wittily jests at her poor time management in this light-hearted melodic track that proves that the post-punk revival isn’t dead. Feel the tension slip away as you dance to those stabbing guitar riffs.

Janelle Monáe – ‘Float’

You’ll ‘Float’ to Janelle Monáe’s triumphant new track that’s “light as a feather”. The single is the first new release from the singer from 2021 and features Fela Kuti’s youngest son, Seun Kuti, as well as his band, Egypt 80. Janelle showcases her rapping skills on dub influenced track featuring a rich brass section and groovy guitar riffs. We’re hoping that this chill uplifting song could be pointing to a new era for the R&B singer and that more new music might follow!

Lizzo & SZA – ‘Special’

The dream team-up of course is in our playlist. This month Lizzo and SZA dropped a remix of  ‘Special’ featuring SZA providing stunning backing vocals to the fantastic tune. Motivating, uplifting, and comforting – it’s the ideal song for turning a rainy day to sunny.

PinkPantheress & Ice Spice – ‘Boy’s a Liar pt. 2’

PinkPantheress’ TikTok hit ‘Boy’s a Liar’ got a revamp this month when the singer collabed with our favourite new rapper Ice Spice this month. The suitably titled ‘Boy’s a Liar pt. 2’ brings us everything we loved about the original plus an outrageously catchy verse from the orange-haired baddie. We dare you not to sing along.

Lana Del Rey – ‘A&W’

‘A&W’ is the most exciting piece of work Lana has released in some time. The seven-minute-long song, which was released on Valentine’s Day in the Americana queen’s typical romantic style, is broken into two parts and manages to refer to personas Lana embodied throughout her impressively varied career. It starts with a piano-driven melancholic melody before plunging the listener into an electronic R&B beat with distorted vocals reminiscent of tracks from Ultraviolence. We can’t wait for when Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd hits streaming next month.

Jessie Ware – ‘Pearls’

The ever-classy Jessie Ware gave us a taste of hazy luxury this month with her latest single ‘Pearls’. Bringing us a funky nu-disco moment, ‘Pearls’ is full of the singer’s usual uplifting energy packed with lively keys, great backing vocals, and whispery addressals.If ‘Pearls’ is anything to go by we know we’ll love Jessie’s fifth album That! Feels Good! dropping on the 28^th April.

Kelela – ‘Enough for Love’

Warm and full of longing, the R&B track ‘Enough for Love’ is the fifth and final single from Kelela’s album Raven, which dropped earlier this month. Kelela’s second LP is another early contender for album of the year. The angelic-voiced singer expertly shapes a hypnotic nocturnal soundscape that’s desire-filled, mediative, and utterly rich – its sound and energy is unmatched. 

Maisie Peters – ‘Body Better’

Maisie Peters voices her anxiety over body issues in ‘Body Better’ which every woman can, unfortunately, relate to. Although the lyrics touch on a sensitive spot for many the track is a refreshing sway-inducing pop tune. Featuring frills, cake, and um… blood, the music video for the track sees pop’s newest sweet-faced princess getting her hands dirty whilst on a picnic with her friends. It’s sugar-sweet with a dark twist and we’re here for it.

Princess Nokia – ‘Closure’

Princess Nokia gets angsty on their newest single ‘Closure’ switching their signature pop rap style for noisy alt-electronica. With boisterous drums and raw riffs, Nokia channels her sadness and anger over a failed relationship into a catchy breakup anthem that will heal the heartbroken. 

Yunè Pinku – ‘Night Light’

A twilight set electronic maze of twinkling sounds, Yunè Pinku’s progressive house track ‘Night Light’ sparkles as an endlessly replayable unique dance track. The London-based artist never fails to produce interesting, dreamy tunes that have us dancing the night away in a trance.

Nia Archives – ‘Conveniency’

Jungle heads will love Nia Archives’ liquid D’n’B and neo-soul fusion. As expected from the fun-loving DJ, singer, songwriter, and producer ‘Conveniency’ brings all the good vibes for pre or post-club antics. With scatty beats and gorgeous layered harmonies, it’s a sunny track that will put a smile on your face. The track is a single from Nia’s forthcoming EP Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against Tha Wall set to come out next month – keep an eye out for more playlist-worthy tunes.

Yaya Bey – ‘Exodus the North Star’

Vulnerable neo-soul will always have a place in our hearts and playlists. Brooklynite Yaya Bey’s ‘Exodus the North Star’ fuses neo-soul and reggae to create something special that we can’t stop playing. Yaya’s unique vocals pack a punch starting soft and then crescendoing into a powerful performance as she begs her lover to take her to paradise. It’s an ultra-romantic track that we’re goo-goo for.

Stella Jean and WAMI Boycott Milan Fashion Week

So, let’s begin with what has already happened. Stella Jean, the only Black member of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion and co-founder of We Are Made in Italy (WAMI) is boycotting Milan Fashion Week. Stella Jean has quit the 6-day event and embarked on a hunger strike in protest of the systemic racism faced by people of colour in the Italian fashion industry. After Stella Jean confronted Carlo Capasa at a news conference on February 8^th for “abandoning” WAMI, We Are Made in Italy took to Instagram to share this statement:

Gucci’s Last Collection Before Sabato de Sarno

Gucci presented its first collection post-Alessandro Michele at Milan’s Menswear Fashion Week in January 2023. This came following Michele’s shock departure last November. Gucci has since appointed Sabato de Sarno, who has previously worked at Valentino, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. As Sarno will be presenting his debut collection for Gucci in September, this marks the final collection that has been designed by the in-house design team appointed by Alessandro Michele, and so this is definitely not a show you want to miss.

Kim Kardashian May Be Making an Appearance at Dolce and Gabbana

Fans are expecting Kim Kardashian to make an appearance this Milan Fashion Week as Dolce and Gabbana are set to host an event celebrating their ‘Ciao Kim’ line. Ahead of Milan Fashion Week, Dolce and Gabbana has amped up its promotion of the collection, posting a series of videos and images on their Instagram over the past week. Could this be teasing a potential Kim K appearance at the show on Saturday? Only time will tell.

The video for ‘Special’ sees Lizzo living a classic superhero secret double life – by day she’s a hard-done-by waitress but at night she shines as a not-to-be-messed-with super. She saves little girls from being hit by traffic, stops thieves from snatching purses, and prevents robbers from stealing from cash registers all whilst in a lycra purple suit and matching mask. As always Lizzo brings her jubilant humour to the video. She unintentionally sneaks a peek at construction workers with her x-ray vision and catches spitballs directed at her whilst she waitresses. The highlight of the video is the ending in which the little girl she saved comes into Lizzo’s diner dressed in her purple costume and with a figure of the hero. Both as a fictional superhero and as a singer in IRL she’s an inspiration to the next generation bringing much-needed representation for plus-size black women.

The video matches motivational message of the song perfectly. In the lyrics, Lizzo discusses the constant stream of criticism she receives from the media and the internet with the opening lyric, “Woke up this mornin’ to somebody in a video/Talkin’ about somethin’ I posted in a video”. She asks if the hate she receives is because “I’m black and heavy?” but doesn’t dwell on it since she says, “I’m so in love with me”. She reassures her listeners who also receive hate that they aren’t alone as well as reminding them they are special. In this way, Lizzo really is a superhero.

Lizzo has been riding high for quite some time now. Last year, her album Special charted around the world and achieved the number two spot on the Billboard 200. She is just about to start the second leg of her world tour in Europe, which will see her come to the UK in early March before she returns to Canada and the US where it will finish in June. Earlier this month Lizzo won ‘Record of the Year’ at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards with her song ‘About Damn Time’ and gave a moving speech in which she thanked Prince and Beyoncé. Most recently Lizzo delivered a glitzy glittertastic medley of ‘Special’, ‘2 Be Loved’, and ‘About Damn Time’ at the BRITS in a fabulous light pink corset with huge over-the-top fluffy boning that extended over the singer’s head, a bit like a furry clam. The singer never fails to entertain.

The ultimate team-up we didn’t know we needed was gifted to us on the 9^th February with a remix of ‘Special’ featuring SZA’s stunning voice adding background vocals. This dream collab will uplift you even more than the original.

Lizzo 

Lizzo is an expert at making a fashion statement and she did just that at the awards last night. She wore a gorgeous orange Dolce and Gabbana fit which was an indulgence to look at. The cloaked coat (which resembled more of a duvet cover in shape and size) had beautiful orange 3D flowers worked on to it. She symbolised the beginning of Spring, which was a fresh and long awaited feeling we needed to have.  

Doja Cat 

Doja Cat has had an incredible couple weeks back-to-back of main character fashion moments. After her full-body crystal encrusted Schiaparelli look at Haute Couture week, we had to wonder, how will she continue to meet this ever-rising bar. Her slick Versace look certainly hit the nail on the head. Doja rocked up to the awards in a black vinyl mermaid gown partnered with full-arm matching gloves. The dress was very Morticia Addams as the train was exaggerated and the fabric plays right into the goth-core aesthetic.  

H.E.R 

The peplum returns. We really loved the Bach Mai look which H.E.R wore and can’t imagine how anyone could disagree. The full black was very chic and the sheer and velvet combination complemented each other so well. A lady who loves her shades, she wore round frames and accessorized with layers of silver sparkly necklaces.  

Lourdes Leon 

Creating a similar moment to the red crystals of Doja the other week, Lourdes Leon appeared on the red carpet in a lush Area gown. The gown was also embroidered with sparkly red crystals, coincidence? We will be keeping our eyes open for more of these looks. The floor length dress was a spectacular piece of craft and was very flattering. The striking cross necklace worn was eye-catching and hints towards the punk influences which are coming into 2023 fashion. 

Bebe Rexha 

A pretty vision in pink from Bebe Rexha. The halter-neck dress worn by Rexha was very classic Hollywood and we always appreciate an old Hollywood glamour inspired look. The Moschino design could not have been better showcased than on the ‘I’m Good’ star. Note to self, high-gloves are continuing to pop-up in some of the most spectacular looks of 2023.  

JLO 

JLO does not know the meaning of a fashion flop. Every time she is on the red-carpet, she is wearing incredible outfits which make their way into the fashion history books. The navy Gucci gown was dripped with fringes of crystals and featured a large ruffled sheer train. Nothing is too much sparkle for JLO, so she layered three Bulgari diamond necklaces and threw on a selection of rings.

Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello wore a stunning dress from the PatBo Spring 2023 runway collection. The dress was very elegant but also tapped into multiple major fashion trends of the year. The silver and pearl embroidered aspect of the dress (as well as the jewellery) is something to keep in mind for the up-coming season. The 3D roses are also a design which we are expected to see cropping up in the next few months. We loved the design and think the minimalist simplicity was complimentary and striking.  

Cardi B

 An incredibly high-fashion, almost theatrical look from Cardi B had us on board straight away. A Fantastical piece of design and craft was worn by the star who continues to bring us anthem after anthem. The bright blue cut-out gown was part of the Gaurva Gupta Haute Couture collection which showcased at the Spring 2023 fashion week. Staying away from over-powering the look with jewellery, she opted for no necklace, but diamond earrings and a three-finger ring.  

Beyoncé 

The Queen B broke history at the Grammy awards last night as she took home her 32^nd win. The silver and gold Gucci dress was made for a star and she obviously pulled it off beautifully. The record-breaker looked phenomenal in the futuristic reflective mini-dress. We were obsessed with the accompanying black leather gloves which pulled the whole look together seamlessly.  

Anitta

This look was one we couldn’t sleep on. Striking would have been an understatement as the black leather and lace gown was a piece of master craft. The strapless vintage Versace number hugged Anitta’s figure until it flared out into an incredibly artistic train. The train featured layer after layer of ruffle which led the eye through a maze of fabric. Another gown with the Morticia aesthetic, the Versace gown is right on the goth core trend. Anitta embellished with some stunning silver jewellery which complimented the look.

Muni Long

Muni Long took home the award for ‘Best R&B Performance of The Year’ and we are here praising her for her look as well as her win. The sheer gown resembled a pink sky at sunrise. The airy and ruffled effect of the train of the dress was day-dream worthy. Super gorgeous and feminine.  

Megan Fox 

The slim-fitted white gown which Megan Fox wore was a gorgeous choice for the model. The corseted bodice of the dress was fully embroidered with gems and jewels (which obviously matched with MGK’s look for the evening). The dress was divinely feminine and visually eye-catching as it caught the light and glistened. No surprise that it was a Zuhair Murad design.

Paris Hilton

Last night, Paris Hilton gave us a look to remember. The sparkly Celine dress gorgeously dripped down Paris and we loved the cut of the dress. Cut-outs featured in the back and front of the dress (very 2023 if we may say so) and the super fine straps exaggerated the sense of delicacy the gown possessed. Paris also chose to avoid heavy, overpowering jewellery for this look to keep it as minimalist as possible.

Paramore

The pop punk band make a much-welcomed return in 2023 with their sixth studio album This Is Why set to release next month. Paramore will embark on a huge tour that starts in February and will run through until early August. Supported by the likes of Bloc Party and Foals this is one party you’ll find us at.

Shygirl

Our favourite mythical creature will be visiting a venue near you this year as she undertakes her world tour to promote her ethereal debut album Nymph which came out last year. With intergalactic trancey beats, flashing neon lights, and Shygirl showcasing glittery garms we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Taylor Swift

Probably the most anticipated tour on our list. The Eras tour will mark Taylor’s first tour since 2018. Having not had a chance to tour Lover, Folklore, and Evermore due to the pandemic the tour will be in support of all her albums including of course her latest Midnights that came out last year. The tour will feature an extraordinary number of amazing women-led support acts such as Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridges, Girl in Red, MUNA, Haim, Gracie Abrams, and GAYLE. Whilst so far only US dates have been announced for the first leg something tells us more dates will be following shortly.

Weyes Blood

Weyes Blood, the mystical soft rock singer-songwriter Natalie Mering, has set off on her In Holy Flux tour. The tour started back in December and the singer will cover the US and Europe by its end in April. Evoking eerie folk-pop vibes these shows will give all those who love a bit of spooky feminine magic life.

SZA

The woman of the moment SZA is due to start her tour exhibiting her R&B masterpiece SOS in February. The album, which came out in December last year, has been praised by critics as one of the best albums of 2022. At the moment only US dates have been announced but we’re crossing our fingers for UK dates to be dropped soon!

The Weeknd

We are unbelievably excited to see Abel Tesfaye perform Dawn Fm, his 80s-inspired dance/R&B album, on his After Hours Til Dawn Tour this year. The second leg of the tour continues in June with The Weeknd playing Europe, the UK, and Latin America. We’re sure seeing ‘Sacrifice’ live will be mind-blowing.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith will be undertaking a huge tour to celebrate the release of their album Gloria, which comes out later this month. The ‘Stay With Me’ singer’s tour starts in April and will run all the way to November with the tour beginning in the UK. Sure to bring healing energy as well as a few spicy moments, their shows will be a blast.

Lizzo

If you’re looking for a night full of fun and giggles look no further. Lizzo is touring The Special Tour commencing next month with dates in the UK, Europe, and the US. The tour will be promoting Special the funk-pop-disco hybrid that came out last year and includes the banger ‘About Damn Time’. We think it’s about damn time you get tickets.

Angel Olsen

American singer-songwriter Angelina Maria Carroll, better known by her stage name Angel Olsen, will be continuing her winter tour from now until March travelling through the US and then Australia. The tour will be showcasing her sixth Americana-style studio album Big Time which was released in June of last year. We just know it would be glorious to hear Olsen’s lush vocals live.

Big Thief

Big Thief had a stellar year in 2022 with the release of their highly praised alt-country inspired album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You. The warm receival of the album as well as the popularity of their shows last year have led to another tour. After their American dates, the band will be coming to the UK in April before they move to Europe so make sure you get your hands on some tickets.

Caroline Polachek

 To promote her album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You coming next month the American singer-songwriter Caroline Polachek will be embarking on her Spiraling tour starting in the UK in February before she travels to Europe and then back to the US. Promising electrifyingly good pop music, an energetic adoring crowd, and of course stunningly chic outfits you won’t want to miss out.

Harry Styles

The British icon Harry Styles continues his Love on Tour tour this year to celebrate the release of his number one album Harry’s House. The singer is set to tour Australia, Asia, Europe, and the UK lasting until late June. Harry’s shows are sure to be a huge spectacle and with the Grammy-nominated band Wet Leg his tour is a must-see.

Nominations for the 2023 BRIT awards were announced on Thursday 12^th January with some of our favourite artists, such as Wet Leg, Rina Sawayama, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Charli XCX, and Dua Lipa, all up for awards. However, many music fans and artists alike were disappointed and puzzled that the nominations in the Artist of the Year category included only male artists. Here’s the lowdown on all the deets you need to know and our take on the failures of the award show.  

Back in 2021, the BRITS removed the gender limitations from their awards replacing them with ‘best artist’ in response to the complaints that non-binary singer Sam Smith was not eligible to win the award because of their gender. Although the BRITs had appeared to change for the better to allow more inclusivity the awards have struck up controversy this year by having not a single female or non-binary artist nominated for the Artist of the Year. To qualify for the award, an artist must have one Top 40 album or two Top 20 singles from the period of the 10^th December 2021 to the 9^th December 2022. This means that hyperpop sensation Charli XCX, the ethereal Florence + the Machine, shinning electro artist Shygirl, indie singer Beabadoobee, dance royalty Becky Hill, and alt-pop hero Rina Sawayama, were all eligible for the award but were absurdly overlooked. A spokesperson for the awards said, “While it’s disappointing there are no [female artist] nominations in the Artist of the Year category, we also have to recognise that 2022 saw fewer high-profile women artists in cycle with major releases as was the case in 2021”. Out of the 70 artists that were eligible for the prize only 12 were female – a very concerningly low figure. We think it’s not good enough – the industry needs to reform to allow more space for non-binary and female artists.

The BRIT awards will be held on Saturday 11^th February at the O2 Arena in London (marking the first ever weekend the awards have been hosted on) and be broadcasted on ITV1 and ITVX at 8 pm GMT. Hosting for the second year in a row will be British stand-up comedian Mo Gilligan who revealed he’d be donating his fee for the night to Five X More, a charity whose aim is to improve Black women and birthing people’s maternal health outcomes in the UK.

The show will feature live performances from huge names such as Harry Styles, Wet Leg, Sam Smith, and Kim Petras. Harry Styles and Wet Leg both tie for the most nominations with an impressive four each.

The winners of the 12 different categories, celebrating Best New Artist to Song of the Year, will be announced on the night. This year’s winner of the Rising Stars Award has already been announced with our favourite new girl group FLO taking home the prize. FLO makes history as the first group to ever win the award. They said that winning is, “truly a dream come true. We feel so empowered creating the music we love and we hope others feel that too.”. Previously winners of the award have gone on to be household names such as Florence + The Machine, Sam Smith, Adele, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, and Jorja Smith.

In 1977 the first BRIT awards were and in 1982 the awards originated as an annual event. Over the years the BRITs have been responsible for some iconic moments in pop culture including the final public appearance of Freddie Mercury, Jarvis Cocker protesting Michael Jackson’s Christ-like attitude by showing his rear end, televising the feud between Blur and Oasis, and of course Spice Girl’s Gerri Halliwell’s famous Union Jack dress. The ceremony once was infamous for hosting surprising antics and presenting the public with a sneak peek into the chaos of British celebdom for an evening. Now the awards have been criticised as having lost its edge as The Independent said it, “evolved into a more polished, sanitised affair”.

The nominees for this year were announced back in November 2022 but just in case you missed them here are some of our favourite artists who are up for a prize.

The nominations for Record of the Year in the general field (that recognises the producers, sound engineers, and sound mixers as well as the performing artist) includes Sweden’s pop icons ABBA’s ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’, 28 time Grammy winner “Queen Bee” Beyoncé’s ‘Break My Soul’, the nation’s favourite soul singer Adele’s ‘Easy On Me’, the oh-so bad Doja Cat’s ‘Woman’, indie hero Steve Lacy’s ‘Bad Habit’, our favourite rapper Kendrick Lamar’s ‘The Heart Part 5’, diva Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time’, and teen girl heartthrob Harry Style’s ‘As It Was’.

Up for awards in the Song of the Year category are the tracks by Adele, Beyoncé, Harry Styles, Steve Lacy, Lizzo, and Kendrick Lamar nominated for Record of the Year as well as the infamous DJ Khaled’s ‘God Did’ featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend & Fridayy, the singer-songwriter Taylor Swift’s short film ‘All Too Well’, and the artist that blew up TikTok Gayle’s ‘ABCDEFU’.

The albums nominated for the Album of the Year include: 30 by Adele, Voyage by ABBA, Un Verano Sin Ti by Bad Bunny, RENAISSANCE by Beyoncé, Mr Morale & The Big Stepper by Kendrick Lamar, Special by Lizzo, and Harry’s House by Harry Styles.

Among the artist nominated for best new artists is our fav cheeky indie band Wet Leg whose punk single ‘Chaise Long’ released on their eponymous debut album last year has gathered millions of streams. Brazilian Latin pop artist Anitta has also been nominated having risen to international fame over the last few years. Samara Joy, the 23-year-old American Jazz singer, is up for the award as well as having released her second album as a leading musician Linger Awhile last year. The Eurovision-famous Italian Glam rock band Måneskin who are about to drop their 3rd studio album Rush! Later this month, are among the nominees in the category too.

Fans of Drake and The Weeknd may be surprised to not see them nominated in a single category. Last year the Grammys ended its secret-committee nominations in the four main categories in the general field (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artists) following protests sparked by the 2021 Grammys when it was revealed the Weeknd’s hugely successful After Hours and single ‘Blinding Light’ did not receive a single nomination. The Weeknd and Drake continue to boycott the awards this year.

With any of our music idols – Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, and Lizzo, to name a few – bound to come home with one or two prizes this year there’s no way you’ll want to miss out. Grab your popcorn, a little booze, and of course your besties ready for a watch party in style. The Grammys will broadcast on CBS Television Network at 8-11:30 ET and will be available on Paramount + for fellow UK viewers.

After blowing out and curling her hair, Hairstylist Lace Assassin used Smooth & Hold Edge Control to slick back Latto’s edges, pulling the hair into a low pony before securing it with a claw clip and topping it off with Roses Galore Perfume. When it came to nails, Eri Ishizu used square shaped, medium-length soft gel tips, coated in a light nude and complimented by french chrome tips using an Instant Chrome Pen in shade Silver Holographic. Finally, the makeup look, which used products by Deck of Scarlet, was created by MUA Meli, utilizing the brand’s Big Lash Energy Mascara to build voluminous, chunky lashes that proved the focal point of the entire look.

Designed by manicurist Juan Alvear, Cameron’s nails featured red, black, and silver embellishments such as red roses and barbed wire, a rebellious reflection of the detail present upon Dove’s floral leather Paco Rabanbe gown. When it came to hair, Jacob Rozenberg created a Wednesday Addams inspired look through two sleek braids, a simplistic addition to her subtle white winged liner executed by Kale Teter using KVD beauty.

Makeup Artist Grace Pae used a plethora of YSL beauty products to piece together Lil Nas X’s decadent makeup look, designed to accompany his theatrical garments designed by Harris Reed. From Nu Blotting Lotion to Nu Bare Look Tint in Nu 19, Lil Nas X had a fresh, dewy complexion that remained flawless under the flashlights. To voluminize his lashes and draw attention to the eyes, Lash Clash Mascara and Crushliner #1 Noir Intense were applied, layered with Sequin Crush Eyeshadow in Bold Blue for an unforgettable finish. Göt2be’s Metallic in Blue Charcoal helped Coree Moreno create a blue-black tone atop Lil Nas X’s previously coloured hair, whilst manicurist Temeka Jackson used OPI’s products in shades Bubble Bath and Black Onyx to create geometric nail shapes that were destined to catch our eye.

Although Eri Ishizu isn’t one to shy away from extravagance when it comes to her manicures, this Met Gala look was, quite frankly, impossible to dislike. Using Tweezerman tools, Lizzo’s nails were cut and filed to a natural round shape, whilst her cuticles were pushed back, her nail surface was smoothed, and her hang nails were trimmed. The spiral press on nail prep then began with Eri applying two coats of OPI’s ONYX gel colour, followed by chrome effect none wipe – cured under the UV light for 30 seconds. After applying more chrome effect powder in the shade Gold Digger (using a sponge tip for a gold ombré look,) the final step included two more coats of chrome effect non wipe gel top coat, cured under the UV light each time. Whilst it may appear complicated, there’s no doubt that chrome powder is a must-have this year!
