]]> The first major red carpet event of 2023 is upon us and we can’t get enough of some of the beautiful make-up looks that we’re spotted on the red carpet. Hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, this year’s Golden Globes did not disappoint! We loved them so much that we’ve put together a list of our favourites with some products that would be ideal to experiment with if you have your eye on one of these looks. 

Rihanna

Making an appearance at the Global Globes for her nomination of her Black Panther single “Lift Me Up” – Rihanna and her boyfriend ASAP Rocky stole the show with their looks for the evening. RiRi rocked a lovely warm-toned make up look with rosy cold girl aesthetic cheeks and coppery pink eyeshadow. Her look was finished off with a pink glossy lip, very au natural and very cute. The queen of pop didn’t hold back on her hair, styling a creative up which RiRi herself described as Princess Leia meets Hollywood. Her look was effortless and beautiful.  

Luckily for us, we don’t have to look far when finding products that are RiRi verified. The Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer is a perfect colour match to the one that RiRi graced us with at the Golden Globe awards. This lipstick gives an irresistible shine to your lips and is the perfect gloss to rock whatever the occasion.

If the warm undertone of Rihanna’s eyeshadow caught your eye then the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’s Face and Eye Bronzer and Highlighter Palette is a beautiful palette that has a selection of warm coppery colours that would make your eyes pop just like Rihanna. The bronzed glow this palette gives is undeniably stunning and can be dressed up like RiRi has or used subtly for those no make up-make up days.

Anya Taylor-Joy 

A vision in yellow, Anya Taylor-Joy went for a subtle soft glam make-up look this year at the Golden Globes. She wore a golden bronzed with organs undertone that made her brown eyes sparkle. The actress combined this eyeshadow looks with light pink on her lips to tie it together with a natural and simple make-up look.  

A lovely warm eyeshadow palette that has that orange undertone similar to the shade Anya styled is the Nars Cosmetics Voyageur Eyeshadow Palette in Copper. This palette is warm and radiant and will go beautifully with any soft glam look you may be trying to achieve.  

Continuing the natural and simple make-up look, the Mac Retro Pro Matte Liquid Lipcolour is a beautiful product that has a similar shade to the one Anya wore on the red carpet. The well-pigmented colour is perfect for any occasion and would look great when paired with a bold eye or a natural make-up look.  

Margot Robbie 

Margot Robbie graced the red carpet with a chic simple look that allowed her peach toned lips to do all the talking. The actress was rocking all things effortless with her look as she wore her hair down in beach waves and a neutral pink tones eyeshadow around her eyes.  

The Laura Mercier Matte Eye Shadow in the shade Cashmere is a lovely subtle pink colour that matches the vibe that Margot was rocking on the red carpet perfectly. This eyeshadow shade gives just the right amount of colour to your eyes and is a lovely look if you are after a simple chic vibe.  

The Nars Sensual Satins Lipstick in shade Orgasm is a nice peach toned lipstick that will make your lips pop just like Margot. This look is super chic and is one that is perfect to rock for a cute day out.   

Jenna Ortega

It wouldn’t be the Golden Globe Awards without one of the most talked about actresses at the moment, Miss Jenna Ortega. A contrast to the soft emo look Wednesday has on the Netflix show, Jenna styles a relaxed look that similar to the others seen at the awards was dazzled with neutral and warm tones. The actress enhanced her doe eyes by styling a winged eyeliner and a light bronzed eyeshadow. There was a glimpse of white eyeshadow or eyeliner supporting her eyes which made them pop! Her make-up look also included a lovely coral blush that tied in her eyeshadow and dress shades.  

The Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette has a lovely selection of rosy neutral colours that are very flattering on any eye. These shades are perfect if you want a subtle base to your eye make-up to allow your eyeliner to do the talking.  

Adding a sprinkle of white eyeshadow or white eyeliner in the corner of your eyes or on your make-up line is a great beauty hack that allowed your eyes to pop and sparkle. The NYX Professional Make Up Jumbo Eye Pencil is an eyeliner that doubled up as an eyeshadow, so whether your want eyeshadow or liner, the choice is yours.  

The lovely coral shimmer that Jenna styles perfectly with her eyeshadow is a great alternative shade if you are not a fan of Barbie pink blush. The Dior Backstage Rosy Glow is a lovely coral-toned blush that will make your cheeks shimmer, just like Jenna’s.

Not only has she been delighting viewers on talk shows and red carpets with her personality but also her incredible looks. Seen on brand with her most recent character’s fashion choices, she is giving us the most incredible style inspiration which we did not know we needed. So, we are going to save you the trouble of breaking down some of her recent looks.

Style Check

Jenna wears a well-tailored houndstooth checked three-piece suit for her shoot to accompany her New York Times interview. Waist coats made their revival this year and as our new ‘It Girl’ sports one, we can only assume they will continue to gain in popularity. A very sexy, androgynous look for Jenna here and we are loving it. It makes us ask, will suits ever go out? After these pictures, it is hard to imagine that day ever coming.

A green queen in our presence with this look and we are indeed green with envy over this fit. This is a preppy fit for Jenna and we think the polo and checked skirt combo are a good look. It is simple and yet a style which has remained relevant since its debut. The American college aesthetic of this look gives of a chic look and we of course love the green colour choice. 

Drop Dead Gorgeous

The Versace dress we can’t get enough of. It is classic, it is trending and it is of course, a Wednesday inspired piece. Sinisterly beautiful and giving us chills. Veils are doing the rounds and Jenna Ortega is certainly keeping them in the style spotlight. 

Back To Black

Another head-to-toe black outfit. A Dion Lee gown for Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show, shows Ortega in a mature and incredibly gorgeous light. The actor, once again, shows her love for black lace and we are all over this dress. The high set of open-toed black stilettos adds to the classic and feminine aesthetic Ortega is pulling off so very elegantly. 

It is black, it is lace, it is Jenna Ortega style. A midi cut, low v-neck, fitting dress is a simply stunning choice. Paired with the high chunky black heels, it is another iconic look for Jenna. The slim silhouette of the dress and strappy shoulders creates a subtle sexiness which is hard to imitate. 

Moving from embroidered lace to sheer, the style is still very much on brand for her. An asymmetrical fitting gown reveals one shoulder and has us on board with this style. Yet again, the Wednesday actorgives off a chic and polished look in this garment and we can’t think of a better fit.

Pinky Promise

Earlier this year we saw Jenna in a very different look to what her recent aesthetic has been capturing. A full wave of pink was worn by Ortega for the Met Gala held back in May. The colour which dominated the year and will still linger through 2023 as no one is quite ready to move on from this bright, eye-catching hue. Use Jenna Ortega’s Gala outfit as your inspo as you engross in pink. Go full outfit or wear pops of pink to draw attention your way.

Rev Your Engines

This look Jenna wears for a shoot with High Snobiety is giving us a different side to the Wednesday fashion we have been obsessing over. Don’t worry we are still obsessing over this and love the mix of styles we are starting to see the actress in. The Diesel skirt which has had us all hooked, paired with the biker-style jacket is a very cool look for Jenna and we think can definitely play a part in evolving her style over the coming season.

]]> The new hit show on Netflix is not only taking over our tv screens, but our wardrobes too. The sensation, Wednesday, which has surpassed Stranger Things 4 as the most watched English language series within one week of release, is trending across multiple industries. Along with entertainment, the fashion world is beginning to see the effects of the Tim Burton series.

In the show, fashion is put to the foreground as Wednesday rejects the standardised boarding school uniform and continues to wear her signature colour- black. AW 22 and SS 23 runways have given us a sneak peak of what Wednesday’s fashion choices could mean for the upcoming fashion landscape. From runway to red carpet, we are going to break down the trends within the re-emerging gothic takeover.

Black Lace

If you commonly dip in and out of gothic styles you will know black lace is a major indication of the subculture. Versace has taken this trend very seriously for their SS 23 collection. Featuring a majority of full black fits, the collection embraces black lace detailing on waistbands, sleeves and stockings.

Nensi Dojaka are including black lace within their RTW SS 23 and we think they embody the gothic trend very elegantly as their classic cut-out styled gowns lend themselves to this trend effortlessly.

Dilara Findikoglu are also incorporating black lace within their SS 23 collection and adopting the layering technique. Just like Wednesday at school, we have herself to thank for the black lace trend entering our Spring fashion as this would usually be considered an unusual and unconventional pairing. However, we are going to fully embrace the Addam’s inspired fashion coming our way.

Ruffles and Sheer

We are looking straight to Wednesday for ruffles and black sheer inspiration, which she brings to the mainstage at her prom night. These styles are synonymous with gothic fashion and we are so glad costume designer, Colleen Atwood, incorporated the styles into the show. The prom dress features Wednesday’s iconic collar neckline and a dramatic black, tulle ruffled skirt which encompasses the character. Most of the dress is sheer which strengthens its goth style roots.

Elie Saab’s AW 22/23 collection showcases gowns with rows of miniature ruffles as well as lace detailing. The designer has also featured collars, neck-ties and chokers within the collection which are signature styles of Wednesday.

Sheer continues to dominate red carpet looks and are heavily featured in collections such as Nensi Dojaka SS 23 and Dilara Findikoglu SS 23.

Bridal Veil

The Wednesday actress herself, Jenna Ortega, wore a stunning Versace gothic bridal number to the premier of the show. Versace’s SS 23 collection is embracing the drop-dead-gorgeous wedding look with multiple veiled outfits. Veils have also been spotted on celebrities such as Mia Goth (rather fitting name), who gave us a black laced widow look at the premier of Pearl.

Morticia

The fashion of Morticia Addams is notably iconic and we could simply not miss mentioning her influence on fashion. She has definitely not been overlooked when it comes to designers such as Elie Saab as half the collection looks as if it is straight out of Morticia’s wardrobe. The styles are dark and elegant, devilish and glamorous.

SS 23 will see Morticia’s iconic silhouette influencing gowns as has so far has begun this season. Dark velvets, mermaid silhouettes and trains will be pushed to the forefront of fashion. Harris Reed’s exaggerated silhouettes are a key trend for Addam’s inspired fashion. Flared, bell and trumpet sleeves will trickle down into mainstream fashion as a nod to her signature look.

Corsetry

Corsetry works amazingly to create the romantic goth ensemble. Inspired by the era of romance, 1800-1850, the aesthetic is an intoxicatingly stylish branch of the subculture. Commonly associated with creating sex appeal, the aesthetic screams Morticia Addams as she places emphasis on beauty and glamour. Silhouettes were an important aspect of fashion within the romantic era which emphasized bust and tight bodice fits, aka, may we present the corset.

Dilara Findikoglu is all over the gothic corset trend. Trending in other areas of fashion already, the corset is reimagined in dark and romantic forms. The corsets making their way into SS 23 fashion are strong pieces of construction. Predominantly dark coloured and created in strong fabrics such as denim or romanticized in satins and silks. Paloma Elsesser attended the Fashion Awards 2022 in a gorgeous romantic goth inspired Dilara Findikoglu corsetted gown.

I’m sure you have noticed by now how many of these trends intertwine with each other to create the modern goth aesthetic. Starting off with predominantly blacks and dark colours, materials of tulle, lace and velvet, and Morticia Addam inspired silhouettes are all center stage for the upcoming goth trend. No time is better than the present to dust off your velvet garments and turn on your peculiar demeanor
