]]> There’s nothing new nor shocking about the comeback of past trends, we’re all accustomed to the idea of fashion working in a repetitive cycle, sometimes even more repetitive than we’d like.

We’ve seen trends of the past everywhere this year. Gucci and Fendi are a few of the labels pioneering this movement with the launch of collections inspired by the 70s, proving that old really is the new new. However, as much as we love to reminisce there are few trends that some of us did not expect to return… and statement tights certainly fit in that category.

So let’s talk about them, what exactly are they and why are they coming back?

Statement tights

Hosiery garments have evolved through the years following major social and cultural changes. One of the biggest changes was the inclusion of these garments into the female wardrobe, shocking right? Tights, legwear, and anything you can basically consider as hosiery were initially created catered for the male gender. Things have clearly evolved since then, with tights being considered as a revolutionary style statement piece representative of femininity (but not only). With the creation of functional garments to support the female body and its comfort, or simply aesthetical ones to accessorise and complete any look.

Who is Lauren Perrin?

Lauren Perrin is the French designer reinventing statement tights and demonstrating their appeal in everyday fashion. The Biarritz-born, and now London-based, designer debuted her first collection of tights and gloves back at the begging of 2020, following a realisation of their gap in the market. She experimented with different sectors of the industry, begging with a three-year-long menswear study path in Paris, and continuing with working for publications like Dazed and Another Man, which according to the designer were what inspired her in her

creation. As she observed her surroundings, understanding, and analysing what editors wore and kept in their “kit” to then combine that with the necessities of her own style and wardrobe.

Her creations which as a small-scale project targeted at a limited circle of stylists expanded to international recognition and inclusion by international publications, following the likes of supermodels like Bella Hadid and other influential personalities.

Why we support her, and why you should too

We love independent brands and everything about Lauren Perrin’s reflects this, especially her will to remain as independent as possible no matter the increasing popularity of the brand. As she has explained in a recent interview with Another Man magazine, she aims to continue working in the UK and prioritising the quality and responsibility of her productions. Even if at times it gets undoubtedly challengings as everything comes from her independent work in a London Studio.

Besides being environmentally responsible and ethically aware, the recognisable style presented by Lauren Perrin is what keeps us in awe of her work. The 70s prints and patterns incorporated in co-ord sets through matching tights and gloves create an unusual yet eccentric style that can upgrade any look. It’s a brand to consider to make a statement out of any look.
