GCDS was founded in 2015, the main vision of the brand being to change the connotations attached to clothes that are ‘Made in Italy’. Giuliano Calza’s wanted GCDS to start producing a fresh, young take on ‘Made in Italy’ clothes. The Fall 2021 collection featuring men and womenswear certainly did not miss the mark in embodying this vision.

Starting the show, Rina Lipa (Dua Lipa’s younger sister) power-walked in an olive-green cut-out figure-hugging dress with a colourful metallic chain around the neckline. The diamante GCDS emblazoned undergarment that peeked through the dress perfectly pulled the ensemble together, creating a classic GCDS look – young, colourful, and loud.

Of the collection, Calza commented “Right now, every trip counts … every perception, every reaction. Dark times lead to good times, and we must recognize every piece of this forward motion. We must learn from it, and we must allow our new selves to be reborn”.

Calza

Calza’s collection translates easily to audiences. The need to escape from routines and repetitive days right now is dire, and Calza realises this, creating an escape for viewers through art and fashion. Going through the GCDS rabbit hole offered audiences a distraction.

GCDS, or ‘God Can’t Destroy Streetwear’ lived up to its name as Maisie William took to the digital runway for the brand, blending streets with the red carpets. Strutting boldly with the iconic shaggy mullet that made a bold return in 2020, the Game of Thrones star caught focus in a yellow blazer and skirt suit. Sand poured over Williams and her boyfriend, Reuben Selby (in a bronze orange suit) in a fever-dream-like scene.

The technicolour symphony presented by GCDS was filled with chic streetwear pieces, from diamante bralettes and earrings to white chunky knee-high boots and powder blue all-in-ones, all featuring the iconic GCDS logo.

Our personal favourites include the fuzzy baby blue mini dress and shoulder bag complete with a matching Tweety Bird bright yellow hat and fluffy boots, flawlessly pulled off by the stunning Alva Claire. Another favourite, walking from an eclipse, a sandy orange dress with shell detail cups and a diamante heart choker, with the chunky knee-high GCDS emblazoned boots making a return for this ensemble, this time in black.

The ASMR-filled film directed by Albert Moya blurred the lines between dreams and reality, transporting audiences to a GCDS style candy land.
