]]> Festival fashion is known for its outlandish outfits, allowing attendees to mix and match their wildest pieces for an outfit that wouldn’t work anywhere else. What better decade to take inspiration from than the crazy fashion trends of the 2000s?

Double Denim

Double denim was all the rage in the 2000s; Britney Spears, Victoria Beckham, and Paris and Nicole all rocked fully denim outfits. Whilst the jeans and jacket combo might be a bit hot for festival season, Kali Uchis rocks a denim corset top with a low-rise mini skirt and denim boots. Trade the denim boots for wellies, and you have yourself a very 2000s festival outfit!

Belts

Belt choices in the early 2000s were questionable to say the least. Bohemian ‘disc’ belts, low-rise belts that served no purpose, oversized waistband belts, and sequin scarf belts all had their moments. Bizarre belts have been making a comeback recently too, with Miu Miu showcasing double-belted skirts, Diesel’s literal belt miniskirt, and Rina Sawayama wearing belts in lieu of tops on the cover of Nylon magazine and at the Brits afterparty. The possibilities are endless, as Sita proves, layering a variety of styles to create this very risky belt dress.

Wellington Boots

Speaking of wellies, Kate Moss has proven to us time and time again that the boot your parents probably made you wear as a child does not have to be shunned. Whether pairing Hunter wellies with short-shorts and a waistcoat or a glittery dress and pointless belt, Kate embraces the harsh reality of a UK summer- clouds, rain, and mud everywhere!

Metallics

Metallic everything was huge in the 2000s, from blue and silver metallic eyeshadow, to metallic frosted lip gloss, to metallic mesh tops. This trend is definitely back, with influencers sporting metallic cowboy boots and Paco Rabanne’s coveted sequin skirt, while TikTokers apply gold and silver leaf to their favourite jeans. Metallic pieces are the perfect way to spice up a boring festival outfit!

Lace

Lace can be perfect for a festival because it is super lightweight and breathable. It adds detail to an outfit and can be layered (think: Blake Lively Kids’ Choice Awards 2005). Sheer lace skirts and lace-edge tank tops are cute and easy to find in shops, and lace gloves are also becoming more and more popular. Practical for a festival? Probably not, but cute.

Cut Out Tops

Cut-out tops are a piece that can be dressed up or down, but dressed all the way up is the way to go for a festival. Go classic y2k with a bedazzled butterfly top, or keep it cool with a white star top like Emma Leger. These summery tops would look great with any early 2000s festival accessory — long bohemian necklaces, gold shiny tattoos, or feathers in your hair!

Terry Cloth

Terry cloth will keep you dry as you dance all night! And is super comfy and breathable which is essential for a hot sweaty festival. A staple in any early 2000s wardrobe, from Juicy Couture terry tracksuits to beach cover-up dresses, terry cloth is both fashionable and functional. Sophie Suchan has styled this Chanel co-ord with layered chain belts and a matching Chanel purse. So simple but so classic.

Coach Monogram

The Coach monogram had 2000s teenagers in a chokehold. Everyone wanted the little monogrammed clutch as their going-out bag after it was spotted on the arms of celebrities like Ashley Benson, Paris Hilton, and Ashley Tisdale. The resurgence of the y2k aesthetic meant Coach relaunched their old styles, including the classic monogram in different colours and even denim. Elsa Hosk opted for an elevated classics look, posing by a vintage car in a monogrammed bikini top with matching jeans. The coordinated patterns make this simple look seem tied together and are perfect for wanting to look good without the high maintenance at a festival.

]]> With stellar sets from the likes of Harry Styles and Megan Thee Stallion, to eye-catching looks from our favourite influencers, weekend 1 of Coachella did not disappoint! With a more demure approach to festival attire becoming apparent and sported by the likes of Kendall Jenner, we’ve picked out the standout styles that the weekend had to offer. 

Harry Styles 

Harry’s setlist had it all, from a revamped rendition of One Direction’s biggest hit, sneaky previews of his upcoming album material and none other than Shania Twain featuring as his special guest, we were entertained from start to finish. Fashion-wise, Harry opted for a daring custom Gucci jumpsuit which we loved.

Rina Sawayama 

Playing into our Cowgirl fantasy was none other than Rina Sawayama, as she rocked a cropped denim jacket featuring draped sequins, paired with denim shorts with feather features to add an extra flair to this camp look. Of course, this wouldn’t have been complete without cowgirl boots, and Rina looked incredible whilst sporting some.

Doja Cat  

Putting futurism into fashion this weekend was Doja Cat, wearing Ottolinger whilst striking a pose for Instagram before her versatile performance on the main stage.

Paris Hilton

Serving us up some serious sparkle was the iconic Paris Hilton, rocking black and silver from head to toe as she took on the hot weather of Coachella. Further emphasising the heat was Paris’ statement boots, with graphic flame features.

Leonie Hanne 

If there were a prize for Coachella outfits, this weekend we think Leonie would be in the running for the crown, as she offered several divine looks for us to soak up. From edgy glam to nude, golden and glamorous styles, there was something for everyone posted to Hanne’s feed over the past few days. 

Megan Thee Stallion

Oozing with stage presence and sass was Megan Thee Stallion, as she wore the ultimate hot girl attire for her set, consisting of a trio of figure-hugging bodysuits in powerful shades such as silver and black.

Snoh Aalegra 

Nothing says festival season the way chaps do, and Snoh Aalegra understood that memo. Complete with embellished cycling shorts and bralette engulfed by a wet look leather jacket and chaps, this look delivered excitement and an edge.

Rickey Thompson

Carrying on the edgy leather looks was Rickey Thompson, as he struck a pose for Instagram looking sassy as ever in full leather attire.

Nikita Dragun

Adding a bright pop of colour to the sea of Coachella looks this year is Nikita Dragun, going as far as coordinating her wig to her animal print rainbow coloured dress. 

Jhene Aiko 

Jhene Aiko delivered one of the most unique looks we’ve seen so far this Coachella season, looking equally extraterrestrial and enchanting. The best part? How easy this look is to recreate! All you need is a cropped jumper, maxi skirt and platform boots in a daring shade.

Peggy Gou

Another simple yet effective look was served by Peggy Gou, as she wore an adorable blue corset top and black flared trousers to add a touch of formality to her Coachella appearance. 

Sydney Sweeney

Keeping it cute and classy was the beautiful Sydney Sweeney, as she wore a cute white playsuit with cowgirl boots to get us all in the festival mood. This is a staple look for any festival-goers who would prefer a more neutral fit!

Bree Runway 

Opting for a simple and sassy look was Bree Runway, who wore a Fendi slip dress in a gorgeous summery turquoise shade, matching her green hair. To make this festival appropriate, Bree rocked chunky boots and larger than life shades. 

Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Justine Skye

Coming as a surprise to many, seasoned Coachella goers Kendall and Hailey ditched the high maintenance outfits this weekend, instead choosing more laidback and casual styles. From Y2K braids, low wasited trousers and tiny crop tops, we can see these styles being popular all summer.

What is one of the many pleasures of a festival? The outfits we get to plan, which in this case we have awaited 16 months to finally put together. The days of emerging ourselves amongst these events on our laptop screens are finally over, as a virtual crowd is now a scene of the past. Even though the summer months are ending there is still an abundance of postponed festivals waiting to happen this Autumn as the darker days roll in. However, this does not mean you can’t buy extravagant outfits because the weather may not be on our side, brands are still offering on trend clothing pieces appropriate for these circumstances. Here are a selection of picture-perfect outfits to groove in this Autumn.

One brand supplying on trend pieces for these festivals is Poster Girl, worn by the likes of Kylie Jenner and Dua Lipa, they are styles which can be carried into Autumn. Kylie Jenner was seen wearing ‘The Jessica Dress’ which cuts at the calf perfect for when it gets colder, as well as the palette of browns adding a warmer tone. The sheer fabric is also a style which has been flooding our social media feeds at the moment. Paired with some black biker boots and a cropped leather jacket you will be ready to enter those crowds in style.

For this Autumn saturated brights have been predicted to be the trend to takeover and what’s a better place to show off this energetic style than at a festival? Even if the weather doesn’t brighten up, our outfits can! Jaded Ldn is a streetwear brand known for its extravagant colours and patterns. Clashing different prints and colours was once a style which was frowned upon but now it is being done everywhere and we are loving it. Take a look at some of their most popular items right now showing off this trend.

Another go to choice this year for these events has been co ords. Available in different forms whether it’s trousers or skirts it is a way to make a statement and also you don’t have to worry about putting an outfit together as its already done for you! Seen all over Instagram is this Oh Polly flare and top set. The burnt orange colour is perfect for the upcoming season and the high waist straps and keyhole neckline are detailing’s which we have been seeing everywhere recently. Paired with white chunky trainers and a bold denim jacket it is an outfit which will turn heads. 

Lastly, we can’t forget about accessories, they are what complete these looks, and no festival outfit is right without a pair of shades. This season Gen Z accessories have been everywhere. This includes baguette bags – the perfect size for a day at these events, rectangular coloured sunglasses, and headscarves.
